***JOIN THE NEXT MASTER YOUR FASTING CHALLENGE THAT STARTS August 13th, 2025!*** We'll GUIDE you on how to FAST to LOSE FAT for good, and use ‘fast cycling' to achieve uncommon results! REGISTER HERE! Click the link for DATES, DETAILS, and FAQs! This episode reveals shocking research from the Journal of Nature Metabolism showing why restarting your fasting routine after vacation or weekend indulgences feels impossibly difficult - and it's not your fault. Dr. Scott and Tommy break down a groundbreaking study demonstrating that just 5 days of eating an extra 1,100 calories (equivalent to 4 drinks or one extra meal plus dessert) creates lasting brain changes that persist for weeks, making fasting adherence incredibly challenging. Discover how short-term overeating disrupts brain insulin sensitivity, reduces reward sensitivity (making fasting victories feel less motivating), increases punishment sensitivity (amplifying guilt when you break fasts), and impairs memory consolidation so you can't remember your fasting successes. Learn why your brain adapts to caloric overload faster than your body shows weight gain, creating a neurological "lag effect" that sabotages your fasting motivation and willpower. The hosts provide practical fasting recovery strategies, including why you should expect the same recovery time as your time "off track," how to use strategic 24-36 hour fasts to reset brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and restore normal hunger cues, and why you shouldn't immediately return to long extended fasts as "punishment." This episode reframes fasting setbacks as normal biology rather than moral failure, teaching you to anticipate and work with your brain's adaptation rather than fighting against it. Essential listening for anyone struggling with the summer vacation fasting cycle, weekend warrior mentality, or the frustrating pattern of breaking their fasting routine and struggling to get back on track. In this insightful episode of Neurodiverse Christian Couples, hosts Stephanie and Dan welcome Ed Khouri, President of Equipping Hearts for the Harvest and author of "Becoming a Face of Grace." Together, they explore the crucial interplay between grace and joy, clarifying how genuine grace—being seen as special and favored without earning it—naturally leads to joy, the gladness of being together. Can you have grace AND have boundaries? What about the phrase, "Just give me grace." The conversation tackles deep relational issues common in neurodiverse marriages, such as navigating attachment pain, understanding the differences between sin, transgression, and iniquity, and developing effective boundaries without enabling harmful behavior. Ed emphasizes practical strategies for couples to build emotional capacity and relational resilience, including shared quieting exercises and storytelling techniques aimed at fostering mutual joy and appreciation. Listeners will find hope and practical guidance for overcoming challenges related to executive functioning, emotional regulation, and relational misunderstandings. Tony Bynum is a conservation photographer, scientist, and advocate who's spent decades working at the intersection of public lands, Indigenous rights, and environmental storytelling. Based in Montana, his images have helped shape national conversations around energy development, landscape protection, and the cultural importance of the Northern Rockies. His work has been published widely and used by countless conservation organizations to make the case for protecting wild places. Before photography became his profession, Tony spent many years working for the Yakama Nation as a senior scientist, eventually landing in Washington, D.C., where he helped shape tribal environmental policy at the highest levels of government. But his path was never linear. A born-and-bred Westerner, he's been a cowboy, a fly fishing guide, a federal program manager, and a backcountry wanderer. His guiding principle—“Don't just love something, do something for it”—has carried him through an unconventional but deeply impactful career. In this episode, Tony tells us about his winding path and the values that have guided him along the way. We dig into his time in D.C., his decision to walk away from a conventional career, and the beginnings of his conservation photography—especially his long-running effort to document proposed energy development near Glacier National Park. As you'll hear, I stepped back a little bit in the conversation and let Tony tell his story in his own words, and the result is a thoughtful and unfiltered look at what it means to live a life rooted in land and responsibility. You can check out more of Tony's work by following the link in the episode notes. SummaryIn this episode, Chase and Chris dive into a real-life client story that many listeners will connect with. It's all about learning how to stop being perfect with macro tracking and start being consistent. They explain how tracking food isn't just about the numbers, but about having the right mindset to keep going—even when things don't go perfectly. They talk about the traps of perfectionism, the guilt that comes with tracking “bad” foods, and how easy it is to feel like you're failing when you're really not. The client in the story used to track perfectly for a few days and then give up by the weekend. But with some mindset work, she learned how to be flexible, not feel guilty about food, and keep going even when things weren't perfect. You'll learn how simplifying your tracking, giving yourself permission to enjoy foods like cake or Reese's, and focusing on weekly progress—not daily slip-ups—can lead to real success.Chapters(00:00) Macros Made Doable Week 3 – A Real Client's Journey(01:24) Struggling with the Perfection Cycle(03:24) Is It Really a Discipline Problem?(04:51) The Mindset Roadblocks of Tracking(06:15) Restarting vs. Figuring Out the Real Issue(07:37) Comparison Traps and Social Media Pressure(08:35) Simplifying the Tracking Process(09:42) Logging Guilt and Food Ownership(11:13) Finding Food Freedom through Tracking(13:05) Mindset Shifts and Using Averages(15:31) The Real Impact of “Off Plan” Days(16:15) Coaching Perspective: Zooming Out for the Win(17:53) Celebrating Breakthroughs and Letting Go of Perfect(18:30) Tracking as Accountability and Ownership(20:17) The Power of Awareness in Weight Loss(22:35) Funny Moments in Logging Reality(23:39) From Struggling to Confident – The Client's Outcome(24:38) Key Takeaways: Progress Over Perfection(26:14) What's Coming Next – A Hint at a New ResourceSUBMIT YOUR QUESTIONS to be answered on the show: https://forms.gle/B6bpTBDYnDcbUkeD7How to Connect with Us:Chase's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/changing_chase/Chris' Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/conquer_fitness2021/Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/665770984678334/Interested in 1:1 Coaching: https://conquerfitnessandnutrition.com/1on1-coachingJoin The Fit Fam Collective: https://conquerfitnessandnutrition.com/fit-fam-collective
