In this episode of the Pizza Marketplace podcast, host Mandy Detwiler, editor of Pizza Marketplace, chats with Sonia Barajas-Najera, vice president of franchise administration for Shakey's Pizza. Shakey's began franchising in the 1950s shortly after it was founded. After a number of ownership changes, the brand currently has 43 units. There's a new flagship in Culver City that took two years to design and create, Barajas-Najera said, and has been well received by consumers who enjoy the restaurant's retro vibes, warm colors and 1980s memorabilia. Shakey's also did a rebrand, but at the core of the company is its food, which remains the same. Shakey's is known for its thin-crust pizza, as well as its pan pizza and proprietary items like its chicken and its iconic Mojo potatoes. With an 80s throwback style at its core, how does Shakeys keep the brand feeling cool for Gen Z while still being a home base for the Gen Xers who grew up there?"There's the Gen X, there's Gen Z. Everyone is in there," Barajas-Najera explained. "We've created a place that has allowed people to come in and just be themselves and disconnect from everything that we're always doing, rushing. We're coining it as slow, casual, because we're not fast, we're not casual. We're just a slow casual. Come in, have a good time, be entertained."When looking for franchisees, Barajas-Najera said they seek people who are passionate about the Shakey's Pizza brand. The Shakey's team gives its franchisees lots of support before, during and after opening.Barajas-Najera suggests potential franchisees do their due diligence and really research a brand before signing on the dotted line. Shakey's is a brand with 70 years of experience behind it, but it's going through an exciting chapter."We feel like we're restarting," Barajas-Najera said. "We're just relaunching."To learn more about Shakey's and Barajas-Najera's role in its expansion plans, listen to the podcast in its entirety.

In this episode, we are talking about the real reason you feel stuck and it's not what you think. It's not motivation. It's not discipline. It's not that you don't know what to do, it's that you keep repeating the same internal patterns and calling it your life. Overthinking instead of trusting yourself. Over giving instead of choosing yourself. Restarting instead of staying consistent. Focusing on everything and everyone except you. That pattern has a name. Self abandonment… And until you see it clearly nothing changes for Long. In this episode, we go deeper into why you keep falling into the same cycles, how self abandonment shows up in daily behavior, why starting over keeps you stuck, and what actually changes when you begin returning to yourself. A president says he has “the best plan ever,” insists Iran is “defeated militarily,” and talks like one more strike package can end the problem. We slow that down and look at the actual mechanics of a modern Iran war: depleted standoff munitions, limited Patriot and THAAD interceptors, and an opponent that can keep producing missiles while the US waits years to scale replacement. When leaders believe in a clean, conventional ending, they can stumble into the kind of escalation neither side can fully control. We also dig into why the nuclear weapon talking point is more complicated than the sound bite. Before the shooting, international monitoring and US intelligence assessments did not treat an Iranian bomb as inevitable, and we talk through the grim possibility that attacks on nuclear facilities can push Tehran toward the very deterrent Washington claims to fear. Add in the Strait of Hormuz and you get the economic dimension: shipping risk, energy infrastructure vulnerability, and the gas price shock that hits everyday Americans fast. From there, we pivot to Netanyahu's comments on 60 Minutes about keeping the war going, and what it means when leaders admit they are losing the information war. We close with Putin's remarks on a May 8 to May 9 truce and the competing Ukraine ceasefire narratives, then flag a new report that Trump is frustrated Cuba still exists and wants regime change there next. If you found this breakdown useful, subscribe, share the show with a friend, and leave a review with the question you want us to tackle next.

Busy does not always mean productive. A lot of entrepreneurs are ending their days exhausted, feeling like they worked the entire time, but still looking up wondering why certain things in the business are still unfinished, still delayed, or still feeling all over the place. That's what this episode gets into. Some of the biggest time-wasters in business are not obvious distractions. They're habits that slowly eat away at your focus, your energy, and your time while still looking like "work." Checking things all day without taking action. Restarting the same tasks from scratch every week. Filling your day with little tasks while the important work keeps getting pushed back. Trying to mentally keep up with every moving piece in the business at the same time. Those habits add up. Monique breaks down the sneaky ways entrepreneurs lose time inside their business without even realizing it and explains why a lot of people are not dealing with a motivation problem or even a time problem. The bigger issue is often how the business is being managed day to day. This conversation will help you pay attention to where your time is actually going, what habits may be slowing you down, and how to stop spending so much energy on things that are not truly helping the business come together. During This Episode You'll Learn: Why constantly figuring things out from scratch takes more time than people realize How over-checking emails, analytics, DMs, and accounts can quietly drain your focus The difference between low-impact tasks and work that actually helps the business improve Why keeping everything in your head makes your workday feel more scattered How unfinished tasks continue taking up mental space even when you stop working Simple ways to create better habits, systems, and boundaries inside your business Thank you so much for listening! U.S. troops are training for chemical and nuclear fallout while fresh forces and warships surge toward the Middle East, and I can't shake the feeling that those “routine drills” are happening for a reason. We walk through what the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit's radiation preparedness could mean in the context of reports that the U.S. is weighing major escalation options against Iran, including strikes on critical infrastructure and the far more dangerous scenario: a special operation aimed at securing Iran's 60% enriched uranium stockpile. If that material has been moved, buried, or sits inside damaged tunnel networks, the operational risks get ugly fast. From there, we connect the dots between diplomacy headlines and the on-the-ground reality of military buildup. I lay out why previous negotiation windows seemed to buy time for positioning assets, not building trust, and how Trump's own public statements reveal confusion rather than a coherent strategy. We also dig into the Strait of Hormuz chatter and the China dimension, including why threatening Beijing while the U.S. burns through interceptors and depends on Chinese-controlled supply chains like rare earth minerals and gallium is a strategic gamble with real consequences. We then shift to Israel's posture, Netanyahu's messaging about influence in Washington, and the demand to remove enriched uranium as a public red line that could drag the U.S. deeper in. Finally, we break down why the Lebanon “talks” look like optics while pressure builds toward confrontation with Hezbollah, and why “grand bargain” negotiation tactics keep failing in real geopolitics. If you want a clear, unsentimental breakdown of U.S.-Iran tensions, Israel's war aims, and the risks around nuclear escalation and regional shipping chokepoints, hit play, subscribe, share the show, and leave a review with your take on what happens next.

In this episode, we're getting clear on what truly matters for fat loss and what's just distracting you. The blockade of the Strait of Hormuz has begun and we now have a clearer picture of how it's going to work. It doesn't just cover the strait itself. It runs along the entire Iranian coastline, out through the Gulf of Oman, which the strait feeds into, and then further again into the Arabian Sea. At least two ships have already been turned back. One of them, unsurprisingly, was headed for China. Now here's the key point. If - and it is a very big if - the United States can successfully keep oil tankers away from Iran, the impact could be fast and severe. We're talking 10 to 20 days. Iran can apparently store only around 13 days' worth of oil production. Once those tanks are full, they're forced to start shutting oil wells. And that's something they really don't want to do. Shutting down an oil well can permanently damage its production capacity. There's no guarantee you ever get it back to where it was. Restarting wells is expensive, risky and slow. Beyond that, there's the wider economic hit. Around 90 percent of Iran's oil exports go through Hormuz - and they've continued exporting despite the war. In fact, they've been earning more, not less. Iran has no real alternative route. So if exports stop, so does the cash. No oil money means no imports, the currency falls, inflation explodes and you start seeing cascading economic problems very quickly. The oil production damage is pretty much a slam dunk. The bigger debate is how fast the broader economy feels it. Because there's a counter‑argument here: Iran may already have as much as 160 million barrels of oil floating at sea. If that's right, China keeps getting its oil, Iran keeps getting paid, and this can drag on through to mid-July. And that's the worst-case scenario for the rest of us. Because then this isn't a short, sharp shock - it's a long siege. And that hurts globally. Even the small amount of Iranian oil that's been leaking onto the market in the past six weeks has been helping to keep prices down. The Economist is calling this a big gamble and that's exactly what it is. This has the potential to cripple Iran quickly - or to strangle the world economy very slowly. Why does it feel like you're doing everything right… and still not losing weight? Welcome back to part two of my 4-part mini series on restarting your weight loss journey — for good. This series is inspired by the real conversations I have every day with my 1:1 clients, and for the first time, I'm bringing those exact shifts directly to you. In this episode, we're getting honest about why your weight is actually stuck. I'm breaking down the six most common patterns I see that keep women spinning their wheels, even when they feel like they're eating well and trying their best. These are the small things that add up, the habits that seem "fine" (but aren't moving the needle), and the difference between hoping something works… and actually following a clear, intentional plan that leads to fat loss. By the end of this episode, you'll understand exactly what's keeping you stuck and walk away knowing what needs to change to finally see progress on the scale. What makes this time different from every other time you've tried to lose weight? Welcome to my brand new 4-part mini series on restarting your weight loss journey… for good. This series was inspired by the real conversations I have daily with my 1:1 coaching clients — and for the first time, I'm bringing those exact, game-changing shifts directly to you. This series is for the woman who feels like she's always "starting over." The one who can lose a few pounds, but struggles to keep it off — and is ready to understand what actually needs to change so the results finally stick. In this first episode, we're diving into the shame that often comes with restarting, especially when maintaining weight loss has felt hard in the past. I break down the emotional attachment so many women have to their progress, and show you how to shift into a more factual, grounded approach so small setbacks don't turn into full-blown spirals. By the end of this episode, you'll start to see your journey through a completely different lens… where setbacks aren't failures, but data. Because this time around isn't about starting over, it's about finally doing it differently. MARK YOUR CALENDARS: On April 12th, the doors to Hot & Healthy Membership open. This weekend, for the first time in two years, the Granite City Works activated a blast furnace. I talk to a lot of Christians who are unsatisfied with their prayer life. They even feel guilty, knowing prayer should be a more consistent part of their Christian life. But sometimes, it feels difficult to get going again. It seems hard to restart your prayer life. Here are some things that will help.Main Points:1. First, ask God to give you a renewed passion for his presence. It's a prayer God will answer because He wants to spend time with you, too.2. Second, decide on a place and a time. Set a reminder on your phone. This is half the battle.3. Third, use a prayer journal/list to help you stay on track. Each morning, I use the 5-minute discipleship journal to walk through my time with God. The journal provides a simple strategy for engaging with God in His Word and prayer. I really enjoy using the “Pray First” App that was designed by the Church of the Highlands.4. Finally, recognize that prayer is your lifeline. Everything we need, God can provide. Today's Scripture Verses:Acts 3:1 - “One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer—at three in the afternoon.”Mark 11:24 - “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”1 Thessalonians 5:17 - “pray continually”Colossians 4:2 - “devote yourselves to prayer”Quick Links:Donate to support this podcastLeave a review on Apple PodcastsGet a copy of The 5 Minute Discipleship JournalConnect on SocialJoin The 5 Minute Discipleship Facebook Group

Every capital campaign hits rough patches — but what separates the ones that succeed from the ones that stall out for good? In this episode, Andrew and Rhen dig into that very question. Andrew draws on his experience to identify the telltale signs that a campaign is in trouble, explore why momentum fades, and offer a practical roadmap for leaders ready to course-correct. It's an honest, encouraging conversation that reminds us: bold leadership and candid dialogue can breathe new life into even the most stuck campaign.
In this episode, Josh Olson reflects on how he and others helped bring a Strong Towns local conversation group back to life in Madison, and kept it going with simple habits like reserving the same library room each month. It explores the projects that grew out of that effort, including safer street trials, Parking Day, and support for a major housing reform package. As the group took on these projects, members built relationships with city staff, showed up to public meetings, and pushed for small, low-cost changes—like turning a peak-hour traffic lane into parking—that the city implemented within months. Waiting until Monday can quietly damage confidence, follow through, and self trust. One rough meal, missed workout, or off day can turn into a lost weekend when recovery gets delayed. Faster resets and more honest next choices help stop that slide before it grows. A stronger approach keeps health goals active in real life instead of handing all your power to a future date. You Keep Restarting Because You Never Changed How many times have you told yourself, “This is my fresh start”… only to end up right back where you began? In this episode of Tell The World Podcast, we're getting real about why so many people keep restarting—and never actually progressing. It's not because you're lazy. It's not because you're not capable. It's because deep down… nothing really changed. We break down: • Why new goals don't work without new habits • How your mindset keeps you stuck in the same cycle • The truth about discipline vs motivation • What it actually takes to become a new version of yourself
This week Yo Aunteas are back with an unhinged episode of Minoritea Report, and the conversation goes from Anita Baker nostalgia to gay shower routines, lotion debates, more boners at the gym, and one of the most ridiculous "Would You Rather" questions the internet has ever created. Along the way they also tackle a brutal music debate:

One placement can be a transaction. Or it can be the start of a long-term enterprise relationship. Most recruiters treat it like the first. Brendan Thomas built his career on the second. He started recruiting at 36, got fired after his first $60,000 placement, and joined a new agency six months later with two clients. By the end of that year, he had built over $600,000 in billings. Six years later, he has generated more than $5 million in lifetime billings, averaged $1 million per year, and qualified for the CEO Club every quarter. In this episode, we break down: • How to win enterprise clients that most recruiters avoid • How to approach hiring managers before HR blocks you • The three responses you'll get from Talent Acquisition - and how to handle each • How to expand one placement into long-term recurring revenue • What discipline actually looks like on a $1M desk If you want to move beyond one-off transactions and build strategic client relationships, this episode gives you the framework. You didn't quit. Life interrupted. If you've ever felt like you were doing well — and then suddenly found yourself “starting over,” this episode explains why. Spoiler: it's not about motivation. It's about design. Here's what we're unpacking: Why progress really stalls Research shows most habits don't fail because people give up — they fail because of disruption. Travel. Illness. Schedule changes. Stress. Caregiving. Real life. Most systems are built for ideal weeks — not unpredictable ones. The re-entry problem When routines break, most people don't need a new plan. They need a way back in. Diana shares a personal story about a season where everything was working — until life shifted. The lesson? “I didn't need a new plan. I needed a re-entry point.” The 4 invisible progress blockers All-or-nothing systems – Great when life is calm. Fragile when it's not. No re-entry point – Miss a week and it feels like starting over. Too many decisions – Restarting feels heavier than stopping. Shame-based self-talk – “I should be further along.” These aren't character flaws. They're design flaws. Why restarting feels harder than starting Research shows people resume habits faster when restarting feels: Small Familiar Neutral Shame delays progress. Accessibility restores it. “Consistency isn't about intensity. It's about accessibility.” This week's challenge Instead of asking: “Why can't I stick with this?” Ask: “How easy is it for me to come back when life interrupts?” Resource: 26 on 26 To support this idea, download 26 on 26 — a simple list of 26 small ways to come back in gently. Have you ever looked up and realized you're back in the same place again?Same frustrations.Same patterns.Same promises to yourself that this time would be different. In this episode, we unpack why life can feel like it keeps restarting without your permission. Not because you lack desire or intelligence, but because unseen identity patterns and nervous system conditioning quietly pull you back into what feels familiar.I break down how unfinished emotional loops, learned survival responses, and inherited routines can reset your progress even when you're genuinely trying to move forward. You'll begin to understand why motivation comes in waves, why momentum suddenly disappears, and why many people rebuild the same life in different forms without realizing it.We also talk about what it takes to interrupt the cycle. How awareness changes choice, how daily decisions reinforce identity, and how to stop unconsciously returning to versions of yourself you already outgrew. If you've been working hard but still feel like you keep starting over, this episode will help you see what's really causing the reset and how to finally move forward with intention.

Back on your GLP-1 medication… but confused why it isn't working this time?Lots of people stop these medications for valid reasons. Cost, side effects, pregnancy plans, or simply because things were going well and it felt like the right time to try managing without them. But when weight creeps back on and you restart, it can feel really frustrating when results don't look the same.In this episode, I talk through why that happens. Factors like muscle loss, metabolism changes, weight regain patterns, and higher stress levels can all change how your body responds the second time around. If you're feeling stuck or wondering what changed, this episode will help you make sense of what's going on and figure out your next steps without beating yourself up.ReferencesGet the free podcast roadmap for The Obesity GuideJane Pilger: The GatheringA monthly guided experience to help you slow down and learn how to trust yourself.Slowing Down to the Speed of Joy by Matthew Kelly Back to Basics Mini Podcast Series 2025Ep. 100: HydrationEp. 101: ProteinEp. 102: FiberAudio Stamps00:30 - Why GLP-1 medications may stop working when you restart them after taking a break.01:20 - Book recommendation: "Slowing Down to the Speed of Joy" and how constant busyness prevents you from addressing behaviors that aren't serving you.04:04 - The common pattern: success, stopping medication, weight regain, then struggling when restarting.06:25 - Why it's harder the second time: muscle loss, weight cycling, and mismanaged expectations all impact your results.09:00 - The importance of updated lab work and comprehensive metabolic assessment before restarting.10:35 - How chronic stress and high cortisol prevent weight loss, even on medication.14:35 - The real work: learning nervous system regulation instead of constantly fighting cravings and urges. All of the information on this podcast is for general informational purposes only. In this episode of The Todd Durkin IMPACT SHOW Podcast, I open up the floor to YOU. This one is personal. This one is deep. And this one is EXACTLY what many of you need right now. I asked our text community for questions—and wow, you delivered. From marriage, faith, and relationships to business, leadership, mindset, marketing, productivity, and youth sports… we go there. All of it. We cover 10 real and raw questions, then I wrap it all up with a Spitting Fire message on one word that's been my February mantra: FINISH. And yes—we close with a powerful prayer you don't want to skip. What You'll Hear in This Episode: 1. 25 Years of Marriage — What Actually Makes It Work I share real talk on communication, faith, respect, working out together, and why "there are no perfect people." This sets up a deeper conversation coming next week with Melanie. 2. Building Mental Toughness in Athletes (Without Breaking Them) For coaches and parents—how to teach mindset at the high school level and why kids ages 6–7 simply need to play, compete with joy, and fall in love with the game, not the scoreboard. 3. Starting (or Restarting) a Business the RIGHT Way If I had to start over from scratch, here's exactly what I'd do: Keep the offer simple Systemize everything (systems save time, energy, and money) Reverse engineer from the end Build to scale without confusion This is straight from launching IMPACT-X Performance San Diego with zero members to a full community. 4. Dreaming Big When Others Don't "Get It" What to do when your spouse or inner circle questions your dreams—and why that resistance often has nothing to do with you. 5. God-Sized Dreams & What to Do NEXT If you've felt re-ignited to dream again, this is your roadmap: Speak it into existence Get a coach or mentor Reverse engineer the mission Take the NEXT step (not all the steps) 6. Where to Invest Your Marketing Dollars A high-level breakdown of marketing buckets: Email (non-negotiable) Podcasting & storytelling Social & paid ads Community outreach Plus, real percentages for early-stage, growing, and stable businesses. 7. Productivity, Focus & Eliminating Noise Why "focus bubbles" are a game changer—and how one 90-minute distraction-free block can radically increase your effectiveness. And after answering these powerful questions, I take a moment to bring it all home with a message that's been burning on my heart this month: FINISH. So many people are great starters, but winners are finishers. Finish the workout. Finish the project. Finish the hard conversation. Finish the calling God placed on your heart. Because momentum, confidence, and breakthroughs are all found on the other side of finishing what you started. I also close this episode with a powerful prayer—for strength, clarity, endurance, and faith—for anyone feeling tired, overwhelmed, or stuck with unfinished business. If this episode hits you where you are right now, don't just listen—take action. Share it with someone who needs encouragement, leave a review, and make sure you're subscribed so you never miss an episode.
