It is a time of great upheaval. The NRL.. obsessed with its quest to flood players' veins with hyperdrive fuel and create the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy, have created a paradox of umbilical proportions. Referees are afraid not to blow the whistle, while also being terrified of its piercing shrill. The Get Square narrative around football means penalties not blown in one game are now blown in another. One might describe the approach as utterly Sith-house. Meantime.. rumours abound concerning a rebel faction dropped by their clubs and plying their craft in state league. The Imperial senate will move to quash any chance of them speaking out about their fortunes, while also unearthing a good news angle around the disturbance in the force that is Ezra Mam returning. In the Outer rim of non-rugby league content: Oscar Piastri has completed the Kessel Run in 4 parsecs, collecting a chequered flag at each checkpoint. Comparisons are being made on his stature in the all time stakes. Amid it all.. an echo in the force. An awakening. And two idiot padawans are dispatched by the Jedi Council to investigate.. or be investigated. We're not quite sure.

This week, Jackie and Danielle welcome their hilarious and insightful guest Maria to help break down the most melodramatic space opera in the galaxy: Revenge of the Sith. From Anakin's “I'm not like the other Jedi” energy to Padmé dying of what can only be described as emotional inconvenience, no moment is safe from their lovingly savage commentary. Maria dives in lightsaber-first with hot takes, unforgettable quotes, and a deep suspicion that the Jedi Council's HR department was just Palpatine in a robe. Yoda's vague advice? Dragged. Obi-Wan's “you were the chosen one” meltdown? Roasted to a crisp—kind of like Anakin.Together, the trio tackles the fashion, the feelings, and the flaming chaos of the final prequel with the perfect blend of fan love and side-eye. They ask the hard questions: Did Anakin spiral or sprint to the Dark Side? And most importantly, why does Palpatine look like a microwaved raisin in a velvet cape? Whether you're a prequel apologist or just here for the memes, this episode is your one-stop shop for cathartic laughter, galactic gossip, and a lot of underacting.·Season 5 Episode 4·—No More Late Fees 909-601-NMLF (6653)—Follow Us on Social:InstagramTikTokFacebookYoutubeTwitterBlue Sky—CONQUERing10% Off Code: JACKIE10—NostaBeauty20% Off Code: NMLF—MariaInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/mariawatcheseverything/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@mariawatcheseverything—Maria's Previous EpisodesBend it Like Beckhamhttps://nomorelatefeespodcast.com/episode/bend-it-like-beckhamKickin' it with Mariahttps://nomorelatefeespodcast.com/episode/kickin-it-with-mariaHoleshttps://nomorelatefeespodcast.com/episode/holesDiggin' it with Mariahttps://nomorelatefeespodcast.com/episode/diggin-it-with-mariaStar Wars Episode 2 - Attack of the Cloneshttps://nomorelatefeespodcast.com/episode/star-wars-episode-2-attack-of-the-clonesVillain Worship: Ranking the Hottest Movie Baddies with Mariahttps://nomorelatefeespodcast.com/episode/villain-worship-ranking-the-hottest-movie-baddies-with-maria

This week on Critical Arcade, Dave and Nick polish up their lightsabers and take on Star Wars: The New Droid Army, a Game Boy Advance title that boldly asks the question: “What if Anakin Skywalker had a bad day, bad intel, and a worse run animation?” Set between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, this pocket-sized adventure drops Anakin onto Tatooine with a mission to investigate a new kind of droid that, somehow, completely ignores lightsabers, which seems like something the Jedi Council probably should've mentioned before deployment. As Anakin, the boys battle through wave after wave of robotic enemies, shady bounty hunters, and the occasional “wait, where am I supposed to go?” moment, all while navigating levels that look like someone spilled Star Wars onto a spreadsheet. But hidden beneath the crunchy graphics and suspicious hitboxes is a story filled with betrayal, double-crosses, and enough lightsaber swinging to qualify as cardio. Can Dave's Nostalgia goggles find any redeeming qualities in a game as complex as Jar Jar Binks? Will Nick ever remember the name of Liam Neeson's character in the Phantom Menace? Hosted on Acast. Spiritual leaders on the somehow-still-peaceful planet of Bardotta are disappearing, and that Queen Julia has called upon the Senate for help. The ghost of Senator Onoconda Farr chimes in with an undignified snort, but no one in the Senate has a sense of clairaudience or of irony, and so it goes unnoticed. Chancellor Palpatine calls the Jedi Council to let them know it will in fact be a mismatched duo comedy episode starring bad cop Mace Windu and clown cop Jar Jar Binks. See, the Bardottans hate the Jedi, because they steal children, and so want Jar-Jar and no one else to come help them. When they arrive on Bardotta, we learn that the Dagoyan Masters, non-Jedi, non-Sith force wielders, are disappearing one by one. We also learn that Jar-Jar and Queen Julia are, let's say, more than friends. Shortly after this the queen disappears. The Bardottan council explains the source of the prophecy is the Frangawl clan, who worshiped a demon in a shrine below the temple, and we realize that this is not just a buddy cop movie with a side-helping of Orientalism, but an Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom pastiche. Our heroes journey to the caverns below the palace, where Jar Jar is immediately captured and placed in a cage hanging over lava. After a standard amount of Jar Jar hijinks, Master Windu locates him, and the battle rages! The cultists are defeated but the cult leader escapes with the still-captive queen. Jar-jar promises the Bardottan council for the second time that day that he and Mace will recover the queen. The Frangawl cult gets to take over the Bardottan government if Queen Julia isn't found. I'm not sure kidnapping is a good basis for transfer of power in governments, but at this point, as an American, maybe I should be more open to new ideas.Jar Jar breaks down what happened to the Bardotten master. The terms ‘crispy fried' and ‘force sucked right out of him' are referenced. Meanwhile the cultist Ornithopter lands on Geidi Prime, and if Julia is fitted with a heart plug to extract her living force I'm going to start enjoying this arc.The Great Mother (who?!) has told the cultists that they have Jedi on their tail. The cultists are being sneaky by dragging the kidnapping victim and a glowing sphere of living force through a crowded marketplace and Jar Jar and Mace still almost miss them.Mace and Jar Jar run into what looks like a genestealer cultist who sicks a couple Gundarks on them. Jar Jar's prehensile tongue comes into play, and somewhere Kit Fisto senses another erotic disturbance in the Force. There's talk of planetary alignment and apparently Lovecraftian cultists are now in the mix; we're one pair of Nike Decades away from a cultist connect four.Hey, it's Mother Talzin! More fighting with some rejects from the Uldaur raid and at this point I had to lay down for a while with some pretty severe WoW flashbacks. Mother Talzin and Mace fight, and she holds her own against a Jedi who made Darth Sidious look like a chump. Where was this when Grievous invaded Dathomir? Anyway Jar Jar rescues the Queen, Mother Talzin's scheme unravels and Mother Talzin dissolves with a scream…? The queen decides that maybe the Bardottens should reconsider their attitude towards the Jedi, and she just has the absolute worst judgment of anyone on this show and that's saying a lot.https://twitter.com/ClosingCrawlhttps://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/closing-crawl/id1530133296https://www.closingcrawl.com/Merch at: https://bit.ly/spacetimetm

Amandla's performance was criticized for not meeting the expectations set by her co-stars. Manny Jacinto received high praise for his intense and methodical portrayal of Chimera. The importance of death in the Star Wars universe was highlighted, with a call for more meaningful character arcs. Frank and Thomas are hopeful but cautious about the series' conclusion. Memorable Quotes: "This episode very much felt like that room temperature coffee." - Thomas "Some people are just not destined to be good actors. Amandla is not a good actress." - Frank "You shouldn't be able to open your mouth about the acolyte unless you're putting in the time." - Frank

THAT ENDING SCENE…The Acolyte Episode 1x6 Full Reaction Watch Along: https://www.patreon.com/thereelrejects After the Sith Revealed in Acolyte Episode 5 with the Jedi Lightsaber fight scenes, we now hop into The Acolyte Reaction, Recap, Commentary, Analysis, Spoiler Review, & Theories! In Episode 6 of "The Acolyte," titled "Teach/Corrupt," the story continues to unfold with Osha waking up in an unfamiliar cave on an "Unknown Planet," resembling the planet where Rey trained with Luke Skywalker. The episode reveals that Osha has been abducted by Qimir, who was once a Jedi "a long time ago.” The episode focuses on the interactions between Osha and Qimir as he attempts to persuade her to question the teachings of the Jedi Order. Qimir challenges Osha's beliefs about the Force and her role as a Jedi, suggesting that the Jedi abandoned her because of her unresolved emotions and the power she possesses. He offers her a choice to leave or stay with him, hinting at a deeper connection to her potential. Meanwhile, Sol is dealing with the aftermath of the previous episode's events, struggling to communicate with the Jedi Council and facing the consequences of his past actions. He also starts to suspect that Mae, who is pretending to be Osha, is not who she claims to be. The episode ends with a cliffhanger, as Osha puts on Qimir's helmet, which is said to provide sensory deprivation and a connection to the Force. This act symbolizes her potential turn to the dark side and the growing influence of Qimir on her. The cast features Amandla Stenberg as Mae, Lee Jung-jae as Master Sol, Carrie-Anne Moss (Trinity from The Matrix) as Indara, Manny Jacinto as Qimir, Dafne Keen (X23 from Logan) as Jecki Lon,  Charlie Barnett as Yord Fandar, Jodie Turner-Smith as Mother Aniseya,  Rebecca Henderson as Vernestra Rwoh, Joonas Suotamo as Kelnacca, a Wookiee Jedi. There's a battle for Ringo Vinda, a massive space station surrounding an entire planet. Anakin leads the clones, along with twin Jedi sisters Tiplee and Tiplar, against the Separatist droid onslaught of the station. Anakin relays his battle plan, with Fives and Tup to assist the twins. Unfortunately Tup is overcome with a headache and a sneer forms as he says the word “Jedi.” During a final push on the droids, with victory in sight, Tup loses it and shoots Tiplar, killing her.The Separatist Admiral Spacetimes(™) with Dooku and informs him of the clone's behavior, calling him “entranced.” Dooku Spacetimes(™) with Sidious that the clone's behavior could ruin his plan; Sidious tells Dooku to capture the clone.Tup repeats the phrase “good soldiers follow orders” multiple times before finally lunging at Tiplee with another muttered “kill the Jedi.” Anakin and the clones decide to send Tup back to Kamino for examination believing it could be some sort of biological warfare designed against the clones.  While departing, some Iron Man Mark 2 droids overtake the ship and capture Tup. Anakin devises a plan to reclaim Tup. They track his signal, space walk, hitch a ride, board the ship, and get him back.  With this, they are now ready to send him back to Kamino. Now Rex and Fives are taking him back to Kamino for intensive evaluation. They meet with Master Shaak Ti and Kaminoan scientist Nala Se. Shaak Ti explains that Tup's actions may be the result of a virus, and Fives could also be infected. Rex, who has been with Fives and Tup this whole time, is sent back to the battlefield to spread the virus to as many clones as possible. After further consideration, Shaak Ti argues that Tup's condition is purely mental and caused by Separatist brain washing. She wants an atomic brain scan to prove it, which may kill the weakened Tup. Nala Se, on the other hand, states this is a virus or physical ailment, and prefers to perform an autopsy, which will very likely kill the weakened Tup. They depart to inform their superiors, where we learn from Nala Se and Lama Su that this is actually part of 'clone protocol 66', and Tup's inhibitor chip has been activated early. They contact Lord Tyranus via SpaceTime(™), who explains they must keep the inhibitor chips secret from the Jedi.Shaak Ti contacts the Jedi Council via SpaceTime(™), who order her to bring Tup back to the Jedi Council for examination. Meanwhile, Fives has convinced medical droid AZI-3 via unbreakable computer logic that AZI-3 must perform the potentially fatal atomic brain scan - if they don't, Tup might die! One space MRI later, AZI-3 and Fives learn that Tup has a brain tumor of some sort that might be causing his condition, before they can investigate further, Nala Se arrives to explain that the tumor doesn't exist. Fives isn't going to let little things like orders or pushy customer service reps stop him from saving a friend, so AZI-3 hacks the Gibson and creates a fake intruder alert just in time to prevent Tup's euthanasia. AZI-3 removes the 'tumor'. Once removed, Tup awakens, talking of the mission in the Clones' dreams that never ends. Declaring the nightmare over and himself free, Tup promptly dies!Shaak Ti and Nala Se contact Chancellor Palpatine to inform him of the death of Tup and the discovery of the tumor. Shaak Ti says it will be sent to the Jedi Temple for study, but Palpatine has a better idea - send it to the Grand Republic Medical Facility, which is state of the art, and also under his control.https://twitter.com/ClosingCrawlhttps://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/closing-crawl/id1530133296https://www.closingcrawl.com/Merch at: https://bit.ly/spacetimetm

Life is comfortable in the ivory tower. You can look down on the rest of the world from the observatory window, seated next to your collection of books chock full of ancient wisdom and quips. The Jedi Order was trapped in this state during the years leading up to the Star Wars prequel trilogy (Episodes I, II, III). The Jedi Council literally sat around at the top of an ivory-looking tower on Coruscant, projecting outward their enlightenment and supernatural power as they looked out on Coruscant from the council chamber. How nice. Yes, there were Jedi of action. If you weren't on the Council, you were doing missions more regularly and seeing the real state of the galaxy. But if you moved up the Council, your world would be books, meditation, politics, and endless discussion. This is famously why Qui-Gon Jinn rejected an offer to join the Jedi Council when a seat opened up. During the Clone Wars period, Jedi Council members experienced more regular deployment into the field, leading many to die in battle. But again, it was not the historical norm. Why am I going on about this? Philosophy is for living and leadingI too like my books. I like my office. I like sitting in it, with my books, reading, highlighting, and writing about what I absorb. It's nice and very cozy. Over the last week though, I've been faced with a call to leave the coziness of my office and enter a different space, one I'd say is a bit more uncomfortable and perilous. I didn't want to answer that call, which I'd received from a number of people in my community, asking me to consider running for City Council in Manassas, Virginia. A lane was open and no one was stepping in to fill it. That means the city gets more of the same in terms of leadership. I thought of Geeky Stoics, my writing, and my time to be alone and think about philosophy, and I didn't like the idea at all. Then I remembered something. The Stoics were (mostly) doers. Many of the Roman Stoics at their peak were ivory tower types in that they were privileged and powerful, but they were “in the arena” as it were, and engaged in public life. Seneca, advisor to the emperor, a masterful politician, and a former senator. Marcus Aurelius, emperor of Rome, not by blood but by merit. He didn't want the purple robe of the emperorship, and he feared it greatly. Thomas Jefferson famously passed away with a copy of Seneca by his bedside. John Adams wrote with great knowledge and appreciation of Epictetus and Aurelius, and George Washington also kept the words of Seneca close as he rose into leadership roles in the Continental Army. To say nothing of President Teddy Roosevelt adventuring through the Amazon with Meditations in his backpack…..Rolling back the clock a bit to Greece, the Stoic known as Cleanthes was known to haul water buckets around on a pole to water the gardens of wealthy homeowners in Athens. He was mocked relentlessly for working to make a living for himself. Cleanthes was also a boxer for most of his life, before becoming the head of the Stoic school in ancient Greece. He succeeded its founder, a man known as Zeno, and was known for doing things with his hands as a means to strengthen his mind. “Be a boxer, not a gladiator, in the way you act on your principles. The gladiator takes up his sword only to put it down again, but the boxer is never without his fist and has only to clench it.” - Marcus Aurelius, MeditationsThat's why Marcus Aurelius wrote fondly of Cleanthes in Meditations, saying one should be a boxer, not a gladiator….because a boxer never lays down his weapon. He carries it with him wherever he goes. Stoic philosophy was for people “in the field” of life. Not their home office. Isolated on an island with a libraryI'm reminded of Luke Skywalker as seen in Episode VIII: The Last Jedi, where he's mostly given up on life and the fight against darkness. He is holed up on the island of Ahch-To, hoarding ancient Jedi texts in a library within a tree. It's not a perfect analogy, but at this time in his life, Luke valued the books more than he did the application of what was inside of them. He had resolved to die alone on the island, and let the way of the Jedi die with him. Yet, he was somehow still really attached to the books. When Master Yoda appears to him to give a much-needed pep talk, Yoda calls on lightning from the sky and sets the tree library ablaze. Luke is horrified. Yoda laughs. He reminds Luke that they are just old books, not page-turners. The truth (which Luke does not know) is that Rey snuck the books out of the library before leaving the island. As the tree burns, the books are safe, and Yoda knows that. But he wants Luke to feel something real: the pain of letting them go. We are called to be leaders in the world. Books and studies are for Hobbits in the Shire. The goal for each of us, “Geeky Stoics”, should be to take those books on the road and on great adventures. We'll miss the simplicity of our old life, Bilbo Baggins certainly did. But these aren't works of fiction for leisure. The books on my desk right now: The Bible, Seneca's Letters from a Stoic, and Meditations, these are field manuals. You take them out into the world. Y'all, I am terrified of what life looks like from now until November when America goes to vote in the 2024 election. I'll be on the ballot in Manassas for City Council, and until then I will be spending more time out in the city talking to my neighbors and asking people to support me in my candidacy. I have some ideas for the city I'm excited about, and I really just want to be an open ear for everyday people in my community who feel like the council doesn't listen to them.In the months ahead I anticipate being verbally attacked, maligned in mailers, gossiped about on weird Facebook Group pages run by the opposition. I know myself and I know that I like to be liked. It's gonna hurt when the slings and arrows start flying from people whom I've never met and the entrenched local politicians who take offense that anyone would dare challenge their leadership. I love this bit from comedian John Mulaney in his Netflix special where he talks about how his wife is awesome because she doesn't care one bit what people think of her. I say this often about my wife, Mel, who ran fearlessly for the city school board in 2022. She took cruel attacks from both sides of the aisle with such stoic grace. Mulaney goes “When I walk down the street I need everybody…all day long…to like me so much, it's exhausting! My wife said that walking around with me is like walking with someone running for mayor of nothing.” He goes on to describe how he got a Best Buy Rewards Card once because he didn't want the employee to be mad at him. Classic. I'm more like John. I am energized by bringing people together and finding common ground in a divisive world. That lights me up inside. But I have learned good and well that in politics (the arena) there are people who are fueled by the opposite. They love division, foolishness, and slander, and they wake up every day with a sense of paranoia and suspicion. I think power does this to people, even in more small, local elected offices. “Begin each day by telling yourself: Today I shall be meeting with interference, ingratitude, insolence, disloyalty, ill-will, and selfishness – all of them due to the offenders' ignorance of what is good or evil (right or wrong)……..” - Marcus Aurelius, part 1 of 2. Geeky Stoics is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber. We are designed for cooperationI'll wrap this up. Now you know, I'm going to be running for Manassas City Council this year. Nothing changes for Geeky Stoics. I just need to work with my friend and collaborator, Riley Blanton, to stay organized so that we're writing for you on the same regular basis about the philosophy within pop culture. If you want to support me in the campaign, it goes without saying I appreciate it. It's much needed. To close, meditate on this passage from Marcus Aurelius, where he speaks about what to expect from each day. He is not being cynical or crude when he says there will be fools and ill-will found in each day. That's reality. But what he says after the passage above is so important, and often left out when Aurelius' is quoted. He reminds himself (and us, the reader he never anticipated having ) that even amidst stupidity and malice, our human duty is to work with others in a gracious spirit. We forgive the slights and attacks because as students of philosophy, we know that we are meant for cooperation with others, just as our hands, feet, and eyelids strive to work in sync. That is what nature demands of us. “….But for my part I have long perceived the nature of good and its nobility, the nature of evil and its meanness, and also the nature of the culprit himself, who is my brother (not in the physical sense, but as a fellow creature similarly endowed with reason and a share of the divine); therefore none of those things can injure me, for nobody can implicate me in what is degrading. Neither can I be angry with my brother or fall foul of him; for he and I were born to work together, like a man's two hands, feet or eyelids, or the upper and lower rows of his teeth. To obstruct each other is against Nature's law – and what is irritation or aversion but a form of obstruction.” - Marcus Aurelius, part 2 of 2 This is a public episode. All May our theme is FORCED and we're plowing through the Star Wars franchise in a chronological order one last time. We will declare the true canon and we will not be debating that so chill out, nerd. When we're done then you can have all of it and continue hanging your emotional weight onto something that seems quite mediocre at least half the time. This episode, we wrap up the Prequel Trilogy and watch as things fall apart as they were destined to do in George Lucas's last directed film “REVENGE OF THE SITH” from 2005. It was always going to be a downer but some of these Galaxy heroes looks like absolute chumps. The Jedi Council royally fucked this one. Baffling characterizations continue but the visual execution is something to behold and the thing we all chomped at the bit for, the Obi Wan Kenobi vs. Anakin Skuywalker fight, actually delivered. This sure was a fun one for the kids. Watching a dismembered man catch on fire. Screaming as his master walks away. There are definitely kid-coded aspects to Star Wars but George Lucas actually made the least kid-friendly film of the franchise in this final installment of the Anakin Skywalker trilogy. Be careful you don't die of a broken heart like Padme. Seemed to me like she was just getting out of being a parent. Liam and Sanak review the newest Star Wars Book, The Living Force by, John Jackson Miller, the acclaimed author of other Star Wars novels such as Kenobi, Knight Errant, and A New Dawn as well as the Knights of the Old Republic comic book series. The Living Force follows all 12 members of the Jedi Council from Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace: Yoda, Mace Windu, Ki-Adi Mundi, Plo Koon, Saesee Tiin, Yaddle, Oppo Rancisis, Yarael Poof, Eeth Koth, Even Piell, Adi Gallia, and Depa Billaba. After an encounter with pirates in the Slice, the Jedi Council is challenged by Qui-Gon Jinn to reconnect with the people of the Republic by helping just one person. This challenge takes them to the planet Kwenn, the site of a High Republic event called The Grand Renewal, where they plan to stage a celebration to honor Kwenn's history. This book shows the Jedi Council at their very best and eerily hints at their coming downfall in the Star Wars prequels. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/starwarslads/support

This week we have the privilege of closing out the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy by watching, reviewing, and ranking Revenge of the Sith as a part of our Star Wars movie marathon. In this movie it has been three years since the Clone Wars began. Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) and Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) rescue Chancellor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid) from General Grievous, the commander of the droid armies, but Grievous escapes. Suspicions are raised within the Jedi Council concerning Chancellor Palpatine, with whom Anakin has formed a bond. Asked to spy on the chancellor, and full of bitterness toward the Jedi Council, Anakin embraces the Dark Side. #starwars #darthvader #skywalker Time Codes 00:00 - Intro 06:55 - The Opening crawl 10:30 - Initial Thoughts/ Reactions this time 23:45 - Movie Talk 1:11:50 - Lightsaber Duels Ranked 1:29:14 - Favorite Character 1:38:50 - Favorite Scene 1:48:50 - Box office/ budget 1:49:25 - Academy Awards 1:50:45 - Critic scores 1:52:50 - Our Scores out of 10 2:08:25 - OUR Ranking/Where is Falls 2:12:35 - Next Week is Clone Wars: The Movie Check us out on Letterboxd Ben's Letterboxd: https://boxd.it/5nFMd Ethan's Letterboxd: https://boxd.it/4QIVr Micah's Letterboxd: https://boxd.it/1bjyt Intro and Outro theme is from @Auralnauts Andor synthwave and "The Book of Boba Fett" (synthwave cover) Follow us on Instagram https://instagram.com/multiversemonologues?utm_medium=copy_link Logo done by the fabulous @chameleo.angel on instagram.
