In the 80s, the idea of special acoustic or unplugged albums and shows became a new medium that continues to today. Most think that Mtv started the movement in 1989 with their series called “unplugged”, however, most rock bands were playing acoustic renditions of their songs on radio when they would do in-town promotions long before then. This week we are celebrating bands that can re-imagine their songs with acoustic instruments and still rock! We are pulling the plug… and gasping for air guitars! What's this InObscuria thing? We're a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. Mtv started a series in 1989 called “unplugged”, and almost every mainstream relevant act started producing acoustic albums or versions of their songs. This week we listen to some artist that you may have never considered as having acoustic interpretations of their songs.Songs this week include:The Struts – “Fallin' With Me” from Unplugged At EastWest - EP (2023)Kingdom Come – “Janine” from Live & Unplugged (1998)Helloween – “Future World” from Unarmed (2009) Wednesday 13 – “Scary Song” from Undead Unplugged (2014)Corey Taylor – “Lunatic Fringe” from CMFB… Sides (2022)Courage My Love – “For Now” from For Now (Acoustic Sessions) (2012)MSG – “Lights Out” from Unplugged Live (1993) Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://x.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/inobscuria/og-shopCheck out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/If you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/

This week we feature fellow music podcasters that not only have the gift of gab but are also talented and creative musicians. Many of us who get on the mic every week either are or were, also in bands playing the music that we love talking about. We thought it would be fun to not only play some songs from podcasters that we know but to also get their insights around the tunes we selected. So open your ear holes and let your brain experience the invasion of podcasters! What is it we do here at InObscuria? Every show Kevin opens the crypt to exhume and dissect from his personal collection; an artist, album, or collection of tunes from the broad spectrum of rock, punk, and metal. It's a pure passion play, which is why we all end up talking about music, having heated debates, and wild lunatic-ish rants about things as silly as what gauge strings the rhythm guitarist is using on a particular section of a song. So this week we give you podcasters that rock!Songs this week include:1. Crunchy – “Fake” from Clown School Dropout (2003) http://www.montycolvinart.com/2. Welcome to InObscuria Podcast Ep. 100 where we exhume obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. Join your hosts Kevin and Robert this week as we re-cap our first 100 episodes and play some tunes from artists featured in our Top 10 most listened to episodes! In our very first episode back in 2019, we began diggin' up the bones of rock n' punk n' metal, and we don't intend on stopping anytime soon. Thanks to all of you that have listened, participated and supported us through these first 100 shows. Let's celebrate! Cheers!!!What is that we do here at InObscuria? Every show Kevin will open the crypt and exhume and dissect from his personal collection; an artist, album, or collection of tunes from the broad spectrum of rock, punk, and metal. Robert will test his endurance of the macabre and provide feedback for your listening pleasure! Our hope is that we turn you on to something that was lost on your ears, or something you've simply forgotten about, or that (in our opinion) should have been the next big thing.Songs this week include:Overwhelming Colorfast – s/t (1992) song: Arrows (track 2 of 13)Ours – “Are You Listening” from Ours (2021)Tijuana Sweetheart – “Angel Of The Morning” from Public Display Of Infection (2007)Manic Street Preachers – “Happy Bored Alone” from The Ultra Vivid Lament (2021)Kevin Williams – “Stitch” from InObscuria Theme Song (1994)Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://twitter.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/InObscuria?asc=uIf you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/Check out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/

Rockers! In 1978 Peter, Ace, Paul, and Gene were still active members of KISS, however, they all released their own solo album on the same day. September 18th the KISS did what no other band has done before or since and dropped 4 albums in one day, all unique to each individual member. Well that got us thinking...what if they never released 4 solo records? What if KISS took all of these songs and compiled them into one great KISS record. What songs would make the cut? What would it sound like? THEN, we took it one step further, lets get three different ideas of what that album would sound like by running a KISS song draft! Only using the songs from the solo records. So Robby, Chazz, and special guest straight from Podcast Rock City, Joe Polo, do just that! On Episode 054 of the RETROZEST podcast, Curtis discusses in detail how the final two albums by the American rock band KISS seem to contain a total of at least 7 callbacks to classic rock songs from the 1960s through the 1980s (by AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Mountain, Krokus, Sammy Hagar and Poison). This episode is similar to Episode 034 of the podcast, wherein it was discussed how a 1982 Duran Duran song possibly paid homage to a 1975 Pink Floyd song (and then in turn, a 2014 Pink Floyd song seemingly had a callback to that same 1982 Duran Duran song). The question is, "Was all of this coincidence, or was any of it intentional?" Additionally in the episode, Curtis makes reference to Episode 134 (Sammy Hagar - VOA) of the Ridiculous Rock Record Reviews podcast, and talks about Podcast Rock City in a Retro Podcast Recommendation segment.
