Imagine you're sitting across from the greatest record producer of your age. A man who's made Alice Cooper a star, a man who turned your dinky record to a worldwide hit, and not just that... But this is Bob Ezrin, the man who helmed the creation of the greatest record of all time, The Wall. He's looking you in the eye and telling you it's time to reinvent yourselves with a concept record. Strap in for Kiss's most amazing mistake. Thanks!!!!!!

Our 2023 Bladtcast Christmas Spectacular is a musical one. Christian welcomes the entire gang from the Shitty Song of the Week podcast (Branden, Teresa and Red) to go track-by-track through the 1979 Star Wars Christmas album, "Christmas in the Stars". (Not to be confused with the 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special, but more on that tomorrow.) It being the Bladtcast, you shouldn't be surprised that there was also an unexpected detour towards Kiss's "Music From The Elder". (ALSO: be sure to catch Christian on the Christmas Day episode of "Shitty Song of the Week", going through some TRULY shitty Christmas songs.)

Pepper. Come sarà andata a finire? The BlahBum Bunch has been called to order to debate the merits of the most critically-panned album of KISS' career, “The Music Of The Elder.” BlahBum members Corey Taylor of CMFT, Slipknot & Stone Sour fame, guitarist Zach Throne, and Chris Jericho question the album sequencing, and scratch their heads over songwriting, production, players, and even the cover art. They talk about Ace Frehley's minimal contribution and imminent departure, the arrival of Eric Carr on drums, and the return of Bob Ezrin to the producer seat. They've got some fantastic trivia about The Elder movie that never happened, the music videos that never released, and Paul Stanley's text response when asked about “Music from The Elder.” And like almost every other member of the KISSArmy, they have plenty of theories and thoughts about the impact this particular album had on the direction of KISS' career and future at the time. Okkar menn hafa gefið út fjölmargar safnplötur í gegnum árin og þá oft til að halda lífi í glóðinni þegar engin er breiðskífan sem fylgja skal eftir. Þá hafa nokkrum sinnum verið sett ný lög inn á þessar plötur eða jafnvel nýjar upptökur af eldri lögum. Væntanlega hefur það verið gert til að auka söluna eða þá til að freista þess að koma nýjum afurðum á vinsældalistana víðsvegar um heiminn. Hér má nefna plöturnar „Double Platinum“ sem kom út árið 1978 á milli „Love Gun“ og „Dynasty“, „KILLERS“ frá árinu 1982 sem kom út á milli „Music From The Elder“ og „Creatures Of The Night“ og loks „Smashes, Trashes & Hits“ sem kom út þarna á milli „Crazy Nights“ og „Hot In The Shade“ árið 1988, bara rétt rúmlega tveimur mánuðum á eftir tónleikum okkar manna í Reiðhöllinni í Víðidal, og sléttum 10 árum eftir fyrrnefnda plötu „Double Platinum“. Í þessum þætti kíkjum við á þau lög sem ekki komu út á eiginlegum breiðskífum og gefum þeim einkunn að vanda. Við getum ímyndað okkur plötu þáttarins að þessu sinni, hún gæti allt eins borið heitið „Killers, Platinum & Hits“. Góða skemmtun! Our GDPR privacy policy was updated on August 8, 2022. Returning with the second installment in our journey through the KISSOLOGY, Episode 97 of A-Sides tackles the "dark era" of KISS. During this era from 1979 to 1982, the band lost two founding members, ventured away from their typical brand of hard rock, and even wore capes, but managed to find their way back with the help of several outside songwriters (including Bryan Adams!) Brent and Andy share their favorite songs, but also pinpoint who was the weakest link in KISS, make the case for Creatures of the Night being a worthy successor to Destroyer's expansion of their "sound", and debate the quality of 1981's concept album, Music From The Elder. Thank you for pressing play on the newest episode of A-Sides!
In this episode, J.T. sits down with Sam Weller : two-time Bram Stoker award winner, Ray Bradbury's authorized biographer, and overall good dude! This week Tom & Zeus review the 1982 KISS compilation, "Killers." This is the 2nd KISS compilation, however it was released only outside the United States. The album was available in the US only as Import. The album consisted of 12 tracks, with four of them being new tracks. The band was coming off of a string of bad fortune including their biggest, recent failure, Music From The Elder. The new songs and this greatest hits was a prelude to their upcoming comeback, "Creatures Of The Night."The new tracks included four new Paul Stanley songs. Ace Frehley did not participate on the album and Gene Simmons only played on one track. New drummer Eric Carr performed on the compilation as well as KISS honorary family member Bob Kulick, who was on fire on this album. Outside songwriters like, Adam Mitchell, Mikel Japp and Bryan Adams, yes that Bryan Adams, were brought in to help the band. KISS hired a new producer Michael James Jackson, who would go on to produce the next two KISS albums as well. The very 80's album cover is the first to feature a new KISS member in makeup, Eric Carr's The Fox. It also showed the band with their "Elder" look as well. The guys breakdown the new songs and rank them. They then rank the album and the album cover against the previously review KISS compilation albums reviewed so far on SIOL.So Loudcasters.... "Aerosmith On Tour" focuses on the touring history of one of rock's legendary bands based on local reviews of the shows and the contemporaneous critical perception of the band. This first volume of "Aerosmith On Tour" covers the band's early grind, as they sought to establish themselves on the rock 'n' roll landscape, through the successes and internal turmoil, ending with the successful 1984 reunion. Also covered are the offshoot bands, the Joe Perry Project and Whitford/St. Holmes, and classic era discographies. This is an unofficial & unsanctioned work fifteen years in the making! It's packed full of hundreds of tour ads, concert ticket stubs, set lists, and reviews. This week Tom & Zeus review the polarizing 1981 concept album by KISS, "Music From "The Elder,"" on their special 150th episode. This is the 9th studio album from KISS and the 14th studio album reviewed by SIOL. Peter Criss is out and Eric Carr is in. Kiss is joined by producer Bob Ezrin, who produced their breakthrough studio album "Destroyer" and was fresh off producing Pink Floyd's "The Wall." Instead of releasing a hard rocking album to rejuvenate their slumping career, Gene Simmons & Paul Stanley, along with producer Bob Ezrin decide to release a concept album based on a story by Gene, called "The Elder."The album was a disaster commercially and critically. The band had a few promotional appearances, but for the first time in their 8 year career, they did not tour to support the album. However, over time the album has cemented itself with bona fide cult status. As usual the guys breakdown and analyze the tracks and rank the songs SIOL style. As always, they then compare the album and the album cover and rank it against the previous studio albums reviewed.See if Tom or Zeus or both or neither think this is rightly judged as a major misfire and a complete dumpster fire. See if someone thinks people are crazy for not seeing its brilliance! Most importantly...Watch out!Or its Sodom & Gomorrah!Interested in more Shout It Out Loudcast content? Care to help us out? This week Tom & Zeus review the January 15, 1982 KISS appearance on the ABC T.V. Show Fridays. The band had released their concept album, Music From The Elder on November 10, 1981 and this is one of their only promotional appearances for the album. Since KISS did not tour for the Music From The Elder, for many fans this was the first time to see the band with a new member, Eric Carr's the Fox and also the new haircuts and costumes. The band performed three songs live from Music From The Elder, The Oath, World Without Heroes & I. The live performances of these seldom played songs are an extreme rarity. The guys breakdown and dissect the performance and then they rank the T.V. appearance versus the previous T.V. appearances ranked by SIOL.Stay to the end of the episode to see who makes an appearance on "Famous Last Words!"YeaaaaahInterested in more Shout It Out Loudcast content? Good evening. Welcome to the first annual (not really) ball of the forgotten albums where we listen to an odd ball record, much like Music From The Elder, which was a soundtrack to a movie that never happened. KISS reunite with Destroyer producer Bob Ezrin and along with new drummer Eric Carr produce their first and only concept album. The album is a commercial failure, alienating many fans who find the coming of age tale of heroic journey pretentious and overwrought. Though the band themselves largely continue to disown it today, it has inspired a devoted cult following who hail it as one of the best KISS albums. The Analysts make the case for why they're right! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/david-blake-lucarelli/support
Duncan and Nik take a swipe at Kiss's attempted Magnum Opus, Music From The Elder, and they go straight down a rabbit hole of cocaine and poor choices. Picture this, you're Gene Simmons in 1981 and KISS looks like they're falling into obscurity after only 5 short years at the top. So, they choose to do what any worried rock star would do, they give themselves over to a wizened mentor. Enter Bob Ezrin. And The Elder are born. Find out more!
