Writer/Director Steve Basilone is on the pod today to talk about getting through his own illness, a public divorce and his mom Joyce's death all in one hellish life gauntlet. Steve is so witty, funny and articulate and should absolutely record audio books. Steve is cool as hell and I'm so glad I was able to have this conversation. Basilone has been writing for film and television since graduating from Emerson in ‘03. In 2007 he sold his first spec feature with Benderspink. Since then, Steve has written and produced more than 200 episodes of television, working for shows like Happy Endings, Community and The Goldbergs. In 2015, he co-wrote a feature for Focus Films, and in 2017 Basilone co-wrote the sequel to the 1987 Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny Devito classic, Twins. This week's guest is Deanna Barillari, who is a dear friend and also a great mentor to Jessica Kantor's son. Deanna is my first guest that doesn't have children of her own but is very important in other children's lives. It took me two years to have my son. And there was a big chance that I wasn't going to have one, and I still wanted to make an impact on the next generation the best way that I knew how. I definitely don't want this to feel like a club childless people are not a part of because every action we do affects the next generation. Deanna Barillari has fifteen years of development and production experience across film and television based in LA and NY, with a passion for stories and those who tell them. Most recently, Deanna produced Chelsea Peretti's upcoming directorial debut, FIRST TIME FEMALE DIRECTOR, for FOX alongside Amy Poehler and her Paper Kite Productions. Deanna is a Sundance Creative Producing, Catalyst, Film Independent Project Involve, and IFP Cannes Producing Fellow. Feature credits include IFC's MONDAY by Argyris Papadimitropolous starring Sebastian Stan and Denise Gough (Tribeca 2020, TIFF 2020), Sony's LONG WEEKEND by Steve Basilone starring Finn Wittrock and Zoe Chao, and multiple music videos for acclaimed filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson. Currently, Deanna is also developing a television series with Daniel Radcliffe, Lord Miller, and Amblin Television based on Kurt Vonnegut's short stories.Films discussed in this episode include:AnnieEmmet Otter's Jug-Band ChristmasBack to the FutureJurassic ParkTommy BoyCluelessThat Thing You DoDaisy Jones and the SixNashvilleGreaseGuys and DollsFootlooseBlack SwanUncle BuckLittle Shop of HorrorsGooniesDazed and ConfusedCast AwayLicorice PizzaJosie and the PussycatsCrazy Ex-GirlfriendSingin in the RainA Star is BornTick,Tick.., BOOM!Rent New Episodes Every Wednesday!EPISODE CREDITS:Host, Producer, Editor: Jessica KantorBooker: Noelia MurphyBe sure to follow and tag Raising Cinephiles on Instagram

Steve discussed his first feature sale, his experience in the Happy Endings room, and a tale or two about pitching Arnold Schwarzenegger, Danny Devito, and Eddie Murphy the remake of TWINS. We love talking to writers and we loved talking to Steve! Thanks for listening! Enjoy! We're starting off the year with a great dead pilot! It's called Falling/Apart written by Steve Basilone (The Goldbergs, Community, Happy Endings). In Falling/Apart Lena and Evan, both newly single, must navigate the uniquely demoralizing song-and-dance of single-hood: the swiping right, the ghosting, the banal first date banter. Honestly, they both (kind of) hate it...until they meet each other. And thus the romantic cycle of falling in love and falling apart begins anew. This project was set up at NBC, with Seth Gordon attached to direct and Sony Pictures TV attached to produce. Falling/Apart is a time-bending rom-com that concurrently explores the beginning and the end of a relationship and illuminates the ridiculous cyclical nature of love, life and getting older.Falling/Apart stars Gareth Reynolds (Maron), Sam Lerner (The Goldbergs), Olivia Sui (Smosh), Jessy Hodges (Barry), Will Greenberg (Wrecked), Zoë Chao (Love Life), Garrick Bernard (Single Drunk Female), Moujan Zolfaghari (The Brothel), and Andrew Reich with stage directions. We're so excited to share this podcast with you. Thanks for listening and enjoy! If you'd like to see the video feed of Falling/Apart, you can do so by going to maximum fun.org/join and become a member for as little as $5. For $5 you'll get our entire catalogue of bonus content and a bunch of bonus episodes too! Tune in next week for our interview with Steve. Thanks for watching and supporting our show! Enjoy! The Rom-Com is a tried and true staple in cinema, but Steve Basilone has added his own personal twist to the genre with "Long Weekend," a film he wrote and directed. A Pittsburgh native and Emerson alumnus, Basilone is an accomplished comedy writer, having worked on "Community," and "The Goldbergs." Check out "Long Weekend" this weekend!
The Ol' 29er is feeling some type of way after last night's victory against the Rangers, despite the Penguins only registering one third period shot on Sidney Crosby's EN Goal. BUT STILL, there were some serious flashes of tremendous play between the pipes by Tristan Jarry, and of course - "the Shift" late in the second period that ended with Kaspari Kapenen's fourth goal in his last eight shots - enough to get Mike Sullivan clapping on the bench! Mark Madden rates the Penguins blue line bad, but much better with Dumoulin in the mix, and Mr. Wednesday Jeff Konkle is fielding all sorts of questions about the birds and the bees. Plus, Pittsburgh native Steve Basilone has a new film out this weekend that you won't want to miss.

Eden Dranger and Steve Basilone are just like Gaby - comedians with poor life skills. As we've learned, that's not a great combination when it comes to money. For Eden and Steve, it was particularly bad when their parents died, leaving them in charge of closing out their estates - a process which turns out to be as complicated financially as it is emotionally. Despite the distinct lack of matching uniforms, Annie Mebane and Steve Basilone are a writing "team". They met in college, kept in touch, wrote a script together, sold it, started looking for work, and found it, ultimately landing at The Michael J. Fox Show. Now they're on Writers' Bloc to share their experience with (the portion of) THE WORLD (that listens to the podcast.) How did they find each other? How do they work together? What is their combined roll at the MJF Show? Which one of them got a "handie" in the back of a movie theatre when they were in 8th grade? Okay, that last question is a bit of a giveaway. But the answers to the other questions including "How do you make Parkinson's Disease funny?" are all right here. Listen and learn, and then watch The Michael J. Fox Show. You'll be glad you did?
