Compiler Error This week's Compiler Error has a theme: Cryptocurrencies! 1 - One of the first cryptocurrencies, Litecoin was created in 2011 based on Scrypt out of concern that GPU-based mining was too high a barrier to entry. 2 - Zcash, founded by Zooko Wilcox, is the first open, permission less financial system employing zero-knowledge security, and employed a “ceremony” to generate the system's private key. 3 - Titcoin was created in 2014 as the first cryptocurrency to be nominated for a major adult industry award, and featured greatly improved transaction speeds over Bitcoin. 4 - iCANhaz was an ill-fated cryptocurrency founded by Burger King in 2018 that could be earned by purchasing cheeseburgers, though most ended up lost since wallets containing the coin were printed on wrappers themselves.

It’s where Matt Parker, Steve Mould and Helen Arney investigate things that don’t seem that interesting on the outside, but become fascinating when you get down to the nitty and / or gritty. Sometimes there’s a bonus science song from Helen too. For this month’s podcast, we peruse Steve Mould and Helen Arney’s new book: The Element in the Room. Inspired by the popular science stand-up show, Festival of the Spoken Nerd, the book takes us on an energetic journey of discovery through science, showing us how to do a range of science experiments at home, and revealing facts and intriguing snippets of information that often get ignored.
It's Part II of our end of year specials, but Part I of those we recorded backstage at the Hammersmith Apollo as part of the Compendium of Reason gigs. Guests on this episode include Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Ben Goldacre, Helen Czerski, Jon Butterworth, Steve Mould, Hannah Fry, Laura Kid and Steve Best with book recommendations from photography collections to graphic novels to expansive novels. Be sure to become a Patreon supporter of the show at patreon.com/bookshambles Lots of new perks and bonus content coming in 2018
It's a pretty disgusting episode of the Fun Kids Science Weekly! Science presenter and comedian Steve Mould is on the phone sharing some of his favourite science stories and facts. Steve explains why our eyes sometimes twitch and tells us about how fleas pass diseases on to humans... by vomiting on them! If that wasn't gross enough, we also discover where poo goes after it's flushed down the loo with Bene and Mal. Plus, meet Santamory - the elf in charge of science and technology at the North Pole - who explains how the elves have made some clever improvements to Santa's sleigh to make sure it's aerodynamic.Join Fun Kids Podcasts+: https://funkidslive.com/plusSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Warning: recorded on an iPhone... :-) What happens when your speaker for the evening isn't arriving for another ten minutes, and you have a room full of people expecting to be entertained? You simply ask Robin Ince - a man who was up at the Fringe to do one show and ended up doing about 6 - if he wouldn't mind filling in. Robin was kind enough to step up and help us fill the time while Steve Mould from Festival of the Spoken Nerd hotfooted it over from the Assembly George Square theatres. We were also able to record his performance on the evening, and it's presented here for your enjoyment. We'll be back in two weeks with a more traditional talk and interview podcast, and we hope you're enjoying our Fringe 2015 content. Please do email us with any comments (podcast@edskeptics.co.uk) and we hope you'd consider leaving us a review on iTunes to help us promote the podcast more. @robinince | http://robinince.com/
With massive apologies for the crapper-than-usual sound quality, here's the next episode of the Skeptics on the Fringe 2015 podcast! The very lovely and wonderful Festival of the Spoken Nerd (Helen Arney, Steve Mould, and Matt Parker) were a massive help during our Fringe festivities, with each of the trio doing a night for us. In return, they were gracious enough to offer reduced tickets to the filmed version of their main show for EdSkeptics regulars. How nice is that? If you like maths, fire, waves and graphs, Festival of the Spoken Nerd are definitely for you. They've just started on a massive UK tour with something like 40 dates in, and we urge you all to toddle off to the FOTSN website and see if they're playing near you. In this interview, we speak to the trio about how FOTSN started, their thoughts on science communication and education, what to expect from their new tour, and their Fringe favourites. And apologies again for the sound quality, but this is a much longer interview than normal. We take with one hand, we give with the other. Firm, but fair, that's the EdSkeptics way.
