Did Wednesday’s first piece of Portland Thorns news justify an emergency podcast? Given who the team gave up and what, in the form of next week’s first pick in the NWSL’s College Draft, the team got in return, the trade of Emily Sonnett and Caitlin Foord to the Orlando Pride certainly rises to the standard. How you feel about the trade in undoubtedly influenced by how you feel about the 2020 draft class. To talk about that, we asked the industry standard in collegiate coverage, Top Drawer Soccer’s Travis Clark, to talk about who will likely be available next Thursday in Baltimore, Maryland, and how they fit at the NWSL level.

It is a new year and it is a new Filibuster featuring all three of our bright and shiny faces! Jason, Adam, and Ben are back and spend the beginning of the show talking about the history of D.C. United's broadcasting partners and what the new deal with FloSports means for the team. In the course of that conversation, we also talk about the newly released full MLS schedule and the fact that D.C. United is on national TV 13 times next season. In the second segment, we bring back our good friend Travis Clark of Top Drawer Soccer to talk about the MLS SuperDraft and D.C. United homegrown players. We begin by talking about Donovan Pines and other homegrown possibilities, before shifting focus to the draft and looking at who the best players are and who might fall to United. Give it a listen!

New Homegrowns! Kaku watch continues! The preseason schedule is set, and the draft is days away. Travis Clark of Top Drawer Soccer joins to give us the lowdown on Friday's Superdraft. We review New York drafts from the past in our third segment.
For the first week in January, there sure was a lot of D.C. United news and Filibuster is here to cover it. Jason, Adam, and Ben open the show (3:39) by discussing the recently announced MLS schedule and what it means for D.C. United, their big roadtrips, and their many appearances on national TV. We discuss the three United players called up to the USMNT and the fact that Jonathan Gonzalez has chosen to play for Mexico instead. We end the first segment by discussing United's trade of the rights of Perry Kitchen and whether or not we would want to trade for Ola Kamara or Justin Meram, both of whom are rumored to want out of Columbus. In the second segment (41:46) we welcome on our old friend Travis Clark of Top Drawer Soccer to talk about the MLS SuperDraft. We ask Travis whether or not this draft class is weak and who the best available players are that D.C. United could take at the third spot. We discuss the fact that the Generation adidas class is mostly international players and discuss the top picks in the draft and from the DMV. We also theorize about what would happen if D.C. United traded down, and talk about the possibility of Eryk Williamson going abroad and what that means for United. Give it a listen!
The US men’s national team drew 1–1 with Portugal on Tuesday in the first of many meaningless friendlies in the team’s near future. After a winter slowdown, Filibuster is here for you and ready for the long haul. Jason, Adam, and Ben are back to talk about the last two weeks of news, including the UMSNT camp and the United players who will be attending. We also talk about the trade of Collin Martin and the hire of a new Academy director, as well as the possible signing of Ian Harkes, the loss of Crystal Dunn to London, and the latest chapter in the USL/NASL lower division drama. This week on the NSCAA College Soccer Podcast, Dean Linke goes ‘deep' with, perhaps, the most successful college coach – any sport – men or women – of all time. With 22 national championships to his name, and, who, knows, some more coming, Anson Dorrance is truly a living legend and he joins Dean Linke to talk about what it was like building that powerhouse and coaching the U.S. National Team. Anson also offers ‘pointed views' on U.S. Soccer's plan for player development and how they handled preparation for the Women's Under World Cup. As always, Anson does not hold back. It's a ‘can't miss' interview. From there, Dean is joined by Soccer America editor-in-chief Paul Kennedy to talk Division I soccer and Top Drawer Soccer's Travis Clark breaks down Division II soccer. Chad Waller gives us his weekly update on NAIA men's and women's soccer and Dean ends with a discussion with Erik Imler (three-time national champion at Virginia and 1992 U.S. Olympic Team member) about how youth coaches can better prepare young players (Under 12) for the college game.
Don't miss this week's episode of the NSCAA College Soccer Podcast with Dean Linke. It's a big show as the NSCAA focuses on every level of college soccer. Stephanie Golan, who has the Minnesota women's soccer team at #9 in the country and unbeaten Big Ten play opens the show talking about her Golden Gophers. Before coming to Minnesota, Golan coached at Army. Speaking of Army, this Friday, it's Army-Navy 5, the 5th year those two men's teams play at PPL Park in Philadelphia. Army's Russell Payne, who is also the goalkeeper coach for Jurgen Klinsmann and the U.S. Men's National Team, joins Dean. Also on Friday night, Syracuse, the #2 team in the NSCAA men's Division I rankings faces #3 Notre Dame in South Bend and Syracuse head coach Ian McIntyre, who led the Orange to the College Cup a year ago and has his team at 8-0 to start the season is on the program. Another Ian, Ian Barker, the NSCAA Director of Coaching, discusses how the NSCAA is helping college coaches at every level. Travis Clark, Top Drawer Soccer.com staff writer and editor, pops by to cover story lines for Division II soccer and walks us up to a visit with Jeff Hosler who has won two Division II women's national championships at Grand Valley State University in 2 years, and, once again has the Lakers at #1 in the country. On the DIII side, Chris Brown, continues to keep Kenyon College among the nation's best – his men's team is #2 in the NSCAA Division III rankings, and he joins Dean along with Ruben Gonzalez, who has led Cerritos College to four national championships and 50 games without a loss in the NJCAA women's Division III level. Finally, the NAIA's Chad Waller has audio updates covering NAIA men's and women's soccer.

We bring back our favorite expert on the college and youth game, Travis Clark of Top Drawer Soccer, to dig in on this year's class. We compare this crop of new players to previous years, and talk about a lot of specific players including Jack Harrison, Josh Yaro, Omar Holness, Andrew Tarbell, and others. We also talk about who might be available when D.C. United picks, talking specifically about outside backs, midfielders, and who might be the best player still available. We diverge into youth development and homegrown players writ large before coming back and talking about D.C. United's academy and which players might be signed from there. After the break, we head over to the Benny Awards and talk about the Esky Award, for the Fan Favorite, the Popie Award, for the best defender, and the Etchy Award, for the Most Valuable Player. To end the show we spend plenty of time talking about the Hate Index and which MLS teams we love to hate. Give it a listen!
Another first in Major League Soccer! This time it’s Justin Mapp who claims the honors as the first-ever free agent signing in league history. Was he wined and dined? How did Sporting KC woo the veteran winger? Who else was in the mix? Mapp provides a primer on the process, then Andrew, David and Matt take a look at the other rumors floating around as the offseason begins. Jordan Morris is doing Jordan Morris things, and now he’s got a decision to make. One day after scoring twice to help Stanford to the national title, Top Drawer Soccer’s Will Parchman calls in to explain what the options are for the US national team star. Will he sign a Homegrown deal with Seattle? Head to Europe? Plus, what makes him so special? In the mailbag, after watching Leicester hand Chelsea yet another loss, the guys wonder whether the EPL is channeling its inner MLS when it comes to parity and unpredictability. Plus, listeners chime in on North Carolina expansion.

We talk about Cyle Larin, Cristian Roldan, and the other top players in the draft, the depth (or lack thereof) of talent in this draft, and the various goalkeepers in the draft (and where D.C. United should take them). We then ask Travis about picking for need versus picking the best available player, the Generation Adidas class this year, prospects from around greater DMV area, the effect of USL PRO, and whether or not there are any D.C. United Academy players who might sign soon. After we bid farewell to Travis, we turn our attention to D.C. United news. We talk about SB Nation's mock SuperDraft, the signing of Markus Halsti, how Halsti will fit in with Perry Kitchen and Davy Arnaud, the callup of Steve Birnbaum and Perry Kitchen to the USMNT, the Concacaf Champions League, and United's coaching changes. It is a jam-packed show, so give it a listen! Note: There is some joking about the Metro in this podcast, before we knew the full seriousness of the tragedy. We apologize for the tastelessness of the joke.

The game of college soccer has given the U.S. Soccer Federation and Major League Soccer talented players, but with the creation of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy in 2007, college soccer needs to be tweaked. Some of the changes relate to the rules in college soccer, particularly the substitution rule. Another issue is when the regular season and National Championship game is played. Northwestern men’s head soccer coach, Tim Lenahan, Michigan State men’s head soccer coach, Damon Rensing, and editor and reporter at Top Drawer Soccer, Travis Clark, discuss these issues. Redshirt freshman defender Jerome Cristobal also gives his take on the substitution rule.
