Friday April 11 was the Global Climate Strike called by Fridays For Future, the group started by Swedish teenage climate activist Greta Thunberg. More than 50 people, mainly students, demonstrated at the State Capitol in Albany. We hear music by Terri Roben; Ryan, the local FFF organizer; Mark Dunlea of PAUSE/350 Albany and GELF (Green Education and Legal Fund); Kelsey from UAlbany; Vena; Matt Oill from XR and Socialist Alternative; and Hannah and RPI Sunrise. With President Trump having declared war on the transition to clean, renewable energy, it is critical that state lawmakers and Governor Hochul reverse course and include major climate measures in the state budget, starting with NY Heat, GAP, and the Renewable Capitol Act. Many spoke about the need to oppose capitalism and colonialism.

Mirai Abe is an exchange student from Kansai Gaidai University in Osaka, Japan, to UAlbany where she studies journalism and sociology. She arrived in the US last August in time to learn English, take up a full load of classes, and write for the Albany Student Press as well as for the Japanese Student Association. She is interested in gender and sexuality in East Asia, American and Japanese politics, and social issues. Now a junior, she hopes to work as a local news reporter in the US after graduation. In her rare free time she is learning Korean, reads novels, and watches K-dramas. The biggest culture shock she faced coming to the US, she says, was seeing students wearing pajamas to classes.Sean Ramirez is a sophomore at UAlbany, double-majoring in journalism and political science. His passion for politics began through grassroots involvement, including volunteering in various upstate New York campaigns. He is an active contributor to the university's radio station, and engages with MAP, the Minorities and Philosophy organization, exploring the intersections of identity, ethics, and public discourse. He'd like to merge his interests in media and political analysis, so is aiming to amplify underrepresented voicesthrough storytelling and policy advocacy. Latoya Wilkinson is a junior at UAlbany studying journalism and English. A Brooklyn native, she has danced, acted, and played the violin since childhood. She says she learned from the arts the importance and the satisfaction of rich storytelling. In this college football podcast, Couz & Jonathan will preview the upcoming WVU football game against the UAlbany Great Danes. They will give their keys to the game, their position battles to watch and one key player for the Mountaineers. They will also wrap-up the week 1 game against the Penn State Nittany Lions, which WVU lost 34-12. The fanbase around West Virginia football is growing anxious after the Mountaineers poor performance in their week 1 loss to the Nittany Lions. Week 2 of the 2024 college football season gives Neal Brown's squad a chance to rebound and fix the mistakes that cost them in the opening week. WVU will be led, once again, by Garrett Greene. The gunslinger struggled against Penn State and completed only 53% of his passes - which actually matched his percentage from the entire 2023 season. Greene, who typically also does damage to opposing defenses with his legs, was unable to gain any significant yardage in week one, but will likely look to correct that in week two. The two-headed monster at running back for the Mountaineers, C.J. Donaldson and Jahiem White, will also look to get their mojo back against UAlbany. Can they do better than the combined 80 yards against PSU? One would hope so against an FCS opponent like the Great Danes. Defensively, WVU will be led by redshirt freshman linebacker, Josiah Trotter, who made a splash by getting 10 total tackles in week one, which was the most of any player on the team. That's impressive, considering it was his very first game at the college level and it came against a top ten Penn State team. The Great Danes have several former power four players on their roster, including wide receiver Seven McGee, who once played for Deion Sanders at Jackson State. Prior to that, McGee played for the Oregon Ducks. McGee had a big game in week one of the season as he caught five passes for 125 yards and a touchdown in a win over Long Island University. Passing the ball to McGee is former Wisconsin Badger backup quarterback, Myles Burkett. Burkett had a rough game against LIU, only completing 12 of 26 passes. However, it was his first game as the signal caller for the Great Danes and he will likely bounce back in week two. Albany also have a strong running back in Griffin Woodell. The 5 foot 10 inch back ran for 85 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries against LIU last week. He will look to have another strong outing against WVU behind a veteran offensive line that returns from last year's team, which made the FCS National Semi-Finals. Will the Mountaineers take care of business against their lone non-power 4 opponent? See what Couz and Jonathan have to say in the episode. #wvu #wvufootball #ualbany

Da'Kquan Davis, Arcadia's all-time leading scorer, joins us on this week's episode of "Not Even D2". Da'Kquan is from Philadelphia and played on one of the most successful high school teams in PA- Roman Catholic. After much success at Roman Catholic, 'Showtime Quan' broke Arcadia University's scoring record in just 3 years; scoring over 1,500 points. Due to a shortened senior year, Quan received a 5th year of eligibility where he would end up transferring to the University of Albany. It didn't take much time for Da'Kquan to get adjusted to the Division 1 game, and he finished his season as the 3rd leading scorer for the Great Danes. Now playing professionally overseas, in Ireland, Da'Kquan still is looking to grow his stock. Hear about how growing up in Philly impacted his career, what went into his dominance at Arcadia, and the biggest adjustments he's had to make to his game playing Division 1 and now professionally. This episode is available wherever you listen to podcasts. It's the penultimate Tailgate of the regular season, IL's Terry Foy and Nick Ossello start by talking not about Notre Dame's win over Virginia, but North Carolina's win over Duke and what it means for the ACC Tournament and the future of Tar Heel lacrosse. From there, they dive into the Merrimack situation, which started with a fight at last week's loss to UAlbany (which Nick was in attendance for), the Warriors' win over Bryant on Saturday, the resignation of coach Mike Murphy later in the day and then the Mack's qualifying for the America East Tournament to end the day. While the Ivy League and Big Ten didn't pack a huge punch, the Patriot League and Atlantic 10 made up for it. Wrap up the weekend with Towson's winning the CAA and Siena and Manhattan making it to the MAAC Semifinals.

It's Rivalry Week, huge crowds are showing up and IL's Terry Foy and Nick Ossello are back to examine two huge games with contrasting identities. First, to Syracuse, where Foy was in the building for the Orange's 18-17 win over Virginia in the latest entry for Game of the Year (a very crowded ballot). Then, to a Homewood Field that revised its attendance total to become the biggest crowd of the college lacrosse season so far, and where the Blue Jays completed a 7-5 win over their archenemy Terrapins to claim the Crab Trophy. Wrapping up the rivalry talk, they dive into Ohio State's frantic comeback that fell just short and set up a rematch vs., you guessed it — Michigan. It wasn't all rivalry action, though, and they dive into Mike Gianforcaro's goalie goal, Loyola's win over Navy and what it sets up in the Patriot League, Jacksonville's big ASUN win over Air Force and Yale's win over UAlbany on Friday night that may or may not have laid out the blueprint for Merrimack to beat the Great Danes in Sunday's showcase game, which Ossello attended (after this podcast was recorded).
