Send us Fan MailYou know that feeling when you walk into a gym and instantly want to shrink, even before you touch a weight? We are naming that pressure out loud and we are offering a better option. I sit down with Sydney Geoghan, the founder of 518GymGirls, a women's fitness community in New York's Capital Region built for connection, confidence, and showing up exactly as you are.About Sydney:Sydney Geoghan (26) is the founder of 518GymGirls, a women's fitness community in New York's Capital Region built on connection, confidence, and empowerment. After starting her own fitness journey to feel stronger and more confident, Sydney recognized a lack of supportive, judgment-free spaces for women. In July 2025, she created 518GymGirls, which began as a small group chat on BFF (formerly Geneva) and has since grown into a thriving community.A Long Island native who moved to the 518 region to attend UAlbany during COVID, Sydney experienced firsthand how difficult it can be to build connections—something that ultimately inspired her to create a space where women of all fitness levels can come together, build friendships, and feel empowered.TakeawaysWomen should prioritize finding communities that foster support and inclusivity. Look for fitness groups that prioritize a non-judgmental atmosphere.Understand that everyone's fitness journey is unique, and it's okay to start wherever you are.Engage with others who share similar goals and struggles; it makes the journey more enjoyable.CONNECT WITH SYDNEYINSTAGRAMFACEBOOKSupport the showIf you like this episode, please be sure to subscribe everywhere you listen to podcasts!FOLLOW ME on INSTAGRAMCheck out the WEBSITEHelp support this podcast by buying me a cup of coffee. Richard is an Albany Law School Graduate and currently works as a Partner at Phillips Lytle. This episode with Richard Honen hits close to home, literally. Rich is a fellow University at Albany alum, or as he calls it, Albany State, and an Albany Law School graduate who has been practicing law right here in Albany for 40 years. Rich takes us down his journey, from drifting into law school after his roommate convinced him to apply on a Smith Corona typewriter, to helping carry a conference table into the office on his very first day at a brand new firm, to eventually buying that firm, putting his name on the door, and later merging it with Phillips Lytle, where he now leads their startup and venture capital practice. What I love about Rich's story is the entrepreneurial thread that runs through all of it. He built a firm from two file cabinets of cases into something worth merging with one of the biggest firms in upstate New York, all while questioning whether he could really hang with the Harvard guys. And his advice on not overcomplicating things, drawing from his days as the least talented guy in a seven-person band at UAlbany, is something I think everyone can take to heart. This was an incredible conversation with someone who has seen it all in Albany's legal world and is still going strong. The discussion covers the new funding and what it enables, why the team is focusing on hotspot regions, the technologies they plan to deploy—including concepts adapted from dark matter research—how academia can help answer the UAP question, Prof. Szydagis's personal drive to understand these phenomena, the challenges and opportunities ahead for scientific UAP study, and his collaborations with Prof. Cecilia Levy and Prof. Kevin Knuth.
