Toyota has issued a fairly substantial recall for its Tacoma pickup truck and the problem is a particularly dirty one.According to the recall filed with the NHTSA, the affected 4-wheel drive vehicles are equipped with 16-inch brake systems with hoses that transfer brake fluid under hydraulic pressure to the calipers for braking. The positioning of the components, paired with 17-inch wheels, means that mud and dirt can build up on the interior of the wheels and possibly come into contact with the brake hoses. Over time, Toyota warns, this may damage and wear through the brake hoses, causing a brake fluid leak, which could lead to a reduction of brake performance, an increase in brake stopping distance, and an increased risk of a crash.

During this episode, the advanced 2022 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid compact crossover SUV is reviewed; Toyota takes sustainability to the next level by conserving water; and the feds investigate an EV commercial bus fire at a public transit maintenance facility in Connecticut.
While the Toyota Tacoma dominates the midsize truck world, its full-size stablemate faces stiffer competition. Toyota's Tundra launched in 2000, with the second-generation kicking off in 2007. Now entering its third generation, it's not hard to see that the previous-generation Tundra might have been getting old despite some updates along the way. This new Tundra ditches the V8 engine and replaces it with a turbocharged 3.5-liter V6. This turbocharged V6 is also available with an optional hybrid powertrain that adds some extra oomph to the V6. In base trim, the new V6 sends 389 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. Those numbers jump to 437 hp and 583 lb-ft of torque in the hybrid trim. Both engines feed a 10-speed automatic transmission, which travels through the four-wheel-drive system before hitting the wheels. In this episode of Quick Spin, host Wesley Wren hops behind the wheel of the 2022 Toyota Tundra Capstone to put it through its paces. Wren takes you on a walkaround of the latest Toyota full-size pickup and highlights its styling, features and specs. Wren also takes you along for the ride in a live drive review where he talks about how the 2022 Tundra feels when taking it out on the road. Adding to these segments, Wren chats with Autoweek's west coast editor Mark Vaughn about the Toyota Tundra, pickup trucks and the luxury truck space. Closing the show, the two talk about what makes the new Toyota Tundra special.

Old Garage Hours sound so different from the new ones - more car and truck (which is good), less guns and beer (which is not good). Oh, and you can tell we don't have the rhythm yet. That's okay - we were almost as good at making it up back then as we are now. This one starts with pointing out that the last thing awesome about NASCAR is the road-course races, and proceeds to the anti-NASCAR, local SCCA-sanctioned rallycross. Other horsepowery goodness includes the classic "Nissan Partrol" [sic] hillclimb video, the SoCal Euro show we missed, junkyards and Formula 1 owners (bickering like a clutch of old hens). Then, once all the horsepower is gone, weh chat about modding Toyota trucks and 4Runners for off-road adventure (see? they have no power) and play with lift recipies and tales of rescuing idiots from themselves. Friends of the show innclude Bilstein, Downey, Rubicon, SCCA, ARB, TRD and the junkyard. Beer Mike joins host Justin Fort for this episode, so, of course, there's beer and cartoons, plus a prank call from cohost Grizzly Chris. An MP3 version of this podcast file is also available - just click to the same date, with the "MP3" marking.
