Plus, Herb shares inspiring success stories of people who have managed to get out of debt. Then, Car Guy Tom Appel from Consumer Guide Automotive joins Nick to recap the Chicago Auto Show, take a nostalgic look back at the most expensive American coupes of 1976, and answer a seemingly simple but often misunderstood question: What exactly is a hybrid? Ford has introduced the Mustang GTD Spirit of America, a tribute to the iconic American car that has been part of American culture since 1965. This week, we have an exclusive interview with an expert on the car. We caught up with Brandon Turkus, Ford's Enthusiast Vehicles Communications Manager, at the Chicago Auto Show for the inside scoop on the vehicle Ford calls the fastest production Mustang ever built. The model honors the American spirit of ingenuity and perseverance, as well as the 60 years of Mustang achievement.   The Mustang GTD Spirit of America features exposed carbon fiber aerodynamic elements and unique exterior trims. The all-new 2025 Mustang GTD sets a new performance bar with 815 horsepower, 664 pound-feet of torque, and a top speed of 202 miles per hour. And that's only the beginning of the story. We'll have much more in this episode. In the news this week, a reliable report says Chevrolet plans to drop one of its conventionally powered SUVs from the U.S. market after this model year while emphasizing the battery-electric version. We'll tell you which one and the surprising place where the gas model will continue to be sold. Elon Musk has announced that Tesla will launch its robotaxi service much earlier than expected, and we'll have details on that. A new electric vehicle charging network has just gone into business, just as automakers call for the resumption of work on the federally sponsored EV charging infrastructure, which has built a paltry number of charging stations so far. You might be sick of tariff talk, but the Administration has announced tariffs on steel and aluminum that could have an impact on what you pay for your next car. We'll have our thoughts. On the road test front, Host Jack Nerad will put the 2025 Mazda3 through its paces. His test car was equipped with an increasingly rare piece of kit — a six-speed manual transmission, and Nerad will tell how he liked the car on a 500-mile round trip to the Central California coast. Meanwhile, on the other coast, Co-Host Chris Teague road-tested the all-new version of the Nissan Kicks small crossover SUV, and he'll have his report. Driving the heavily revised 2025 Ram 1500 brought on a strange sensation. Instead of giving a sense of raw muscle, it offered the sophistication of an uptown limousine. In fact, we'd bet that most limousines don't ride as well or offer as much stretch-out room as the Ram 1500 Crew Cabs. For 2025, Ram is offering a new line-topping Tungsten model, and it has goosed up the already strong credentials of the former Ram top dog, the Limited. Host Jack Nerad just returned from a trip to Austin, Texas, after driving both. He got the rare opportunity to sample the new, much-talked-about 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline six-cylinder Hurricane High Output engine that replaces the fabled Hemi V8 under Ram's powerful hood. And he got the chance to partake of the Ram 1500's velvety ride quality, the product of its adaptive air suspension. On top of that was the Ram 1500's technology with the headline-creating Uconnect5 system and a 14.5-inch multi-function touchscreen. Nerad will tell us more in this episode. Also, in this episode, Co-Host Chris Teague will detail his findings after a weeklong midwinter test of the 2024 Honda Ridgeline TrailSport. The Ridgeline has always been an idiosyncratic truck. Now it is available in a new form that stresses off-road capabilities. Can it live up to its looks? Teague will have the answers. It's been an exciting week in the car industry. It looks as if the Environmental Protection Agency is finally willing to listen to reason and relax its stringent fuel economy and electric vehicle mandates. Those regulations faced heavy opposition from just about everyone who knew anything about the car industry. We'll have the details for you. Meanwhile, there is more trouble on the self-driving vehicle front. Autonomous vehicle testing in San Francisco has faced a great deal of public resistance, and the recent firebombing of a self-driving car is just the latest example. In a related development, General Motors' embattled Cruise self-driving unit has lost another key executive in a blood-letting after one of its self-driving test cars dragged a pedestrian down the street last year. We'll have more on both stories. In happier news, Mazda has announced that it will continue to develop one of its longtime signature engines. We'll have the details on that later in this segment. This week, our special guest is Andrew Staley, brand manager of the Ford Explorer. Ford has a heavily revised version of the Explorer on the way for 2025, and Host Jack Nerad had a chance to get all the important details from him in their discussion at the Chicago Auto Show. So join us for that. We think you'll be interested in what he has to say. All that and more are coming up on America on the Road. Jill and Tom began with a brief Chicago Auto Show recap, news regarding Ionna—the multi-carmaker charging network created in response to the failure of public-charging companies including Electrify America—and Electrify America's new indoor charging facility in San Francisco. Jill also reviewed the 2024 Lexus GX 550, the replacement for one of Tom's favorite vehicles, the long-running Lexus GX 460. In the second segment the hosts welcomed to the show Sam Fiorani of AutoForecast Solutions. Same addressed the recent Stellantis/Renault merger rumor, and looked at the near- and mid-term future of the storied Jeep brand. Big changes coming for the off-road marque, including two electric vehicles for the U.S. In the third segment, Jill is subjected to Tom's diabolical “Is it a Chrysler” quiz. Did Jill's wining streak come to an end this week? Listen in to find out. Also, big thanks to Morkes Chocolate in Palatine, Illinois, for supplying today's Fat Tuesday paczki.

Start your engines folks, we're going to the Chicago Auto Show! There's been nothing like it for Chicago- from the people it attracts to the impact is has on a global market, this is the place to be every February! First staged in 1901, the Chicago Auto Show is the largest auto show in North America and has been held more times than any other auto exposition on the continent. If you're into cars, looking to buy a car, or do anything related to cars, then this is the indoor winter fun you need in Chicago. Aaron has been going annually since he was kid (we bet you didn't think he was into cars) and he intends to keep it that way, bringing Ioanna as his date this year! We sit down with Director of Marketing & Sponsorships, Jim Obrill, to talk what's trending at this year's show. Hear what Chicago Auto Show attendees get to see first anywhere in the nation, and find out why this exposition is perfect whether you've been attending for decades or want to try it out for the first time! We also talk Electric Vehicles and the future of tech on display at McCormick Center. And Jim highlights what he is most excited for this year (we trust him since he is referred to as “the car guy”)! We end with Jim discussing how the show has left its mark on Chicago's economy, and Jim tells Ioanna and Aaron what car they are! Get tickets and browse more info on this year's show at: https://www.chicagoautoshow.com Follow them on Instagram: @thechicagoautoshow Follow Jim on Instagram: @jpcars22 Listen to Jim's Show “Drive Chicago”: https://www.wlsam.com/drivechicago/ DATES: FEBRUARY 10-19 at McCormick Place This week's episode features “The Pink Cadillac Cocktail” from Motortrends.com!

John walked the hosts through the outlet's “2024 Best Cars for the Money” list. It's noteworthy that three brands dominated the 11-vehicle list.  In the last segment Jill is subjected to Tom's “Was it ever…” fake-model quiz. Did Jill win again? After the quiz Jill shared her thoughts on new-car-feature subscription fees. Per Jill, while many of the features in question are currently available at no cost to owners, use will eventually be subject to monthly charges. And, interestingly, in many cases auto makers have not yet set pricing for said features.
