Für ambitionierte Golfer bietet das Spiel ein erstklassiges Trainingswerkzeug und eine zutiefst immersive Erfahrung auf grafisch stark überarbeiteten Plätzen. Neue strategische Multiplayer-Modi (Scramble, Fourball) erweitern den sozialen und kompetitiven Spielspaß deutlich. Die Abzüge in der Wertung erfolgen hauptsächlich aufgrund der aggressiven DLC-Politik: Weltklasse-Kurse wie St. Andrews müssen teuer zugekauft werden, was die Gesamtkosten erhöht.
