YEOHING FOR IT. The long-gestating Section 31 TV series finally premieres on Paramount+ as a standalone movie -- or is it? Bryan and TV critic Diana Keng try to figure out just what this actually is and how the wonderful, resplendent, and popular Michelle Yeoh's contributions go insofar as making this a TREK, MARRY, or KILL. This episode of Raise the Line is special for a couple of reasons. Our guest, Toh Hong Keng recently graduated from medical school at the age of seventy, making him one of the oldest medical students in the world; and Shiv Gaglani is taking a break from his 3rd year of medical school -- which he is completing at the age of 35 -- to make a rare appearance hosting the show so he can compare notes with Toh about being a non-traditional med student and to learn from his inspiring example. Toh is a retired tech sales executive who earned his medical degree this summer from Southwestern University PHINMA in the Philippines after a long career in the Asia-Pacific region. As he tells Shiv, Toh brushed aside the opinions of acquaintances that pursuing a medical degree in his late sixties was a little crazy. “I'm a firm believer that at this age, we should be able to do what we like to do, not what people think we should be doing.” Tune in to find out what sparked his interest in getting the degree, what his biggest challenges were, how his classmates interacted with him, what he considers highlights of the experience, and what he plans to do next. You'll also learn about the concept of “sayang” which Toh relied on when he was facing doubts along this very difficult, but rewarding journey. Joining Bryan to render a final verdict is TV reviewer Diana Keng (@diana4tv), who wrote hundreds of Star Trek reviews for TV Fanatic, but now provides her talents to another of outlets. Today I talked to Ching Keng about his book Toward a New Image of Paramartha: Yogacara and Tathagatagarbha Buddhism Revisited (Bloomsbury, 2022). Yogacara and Tathagatagarbha are often regarded as antagonistic Indian Buddhist traditions. Paramartha (499-569) is traditionally credited with amalgamating these philosophies by translating one of the most influential Tathagatagarbha texts in East Asia, the Awakening of Faith in Mahayana, and introducing Tathagatagarbha notions into his translations of Yogacara texts. Engaging with the digitalized Chinese Buddhist canon, Ching Keng draws on clues from a long-lost Dunhuang fragment and considers its striking similarities with Paramartha's corpus with respect to terminology, style of phrasing, and doctrines. In this cutting-edge interpretation of the concept of jiexing, Keng demystifies the image of Paramartha and makes the case that the fragment holds the key to recovering his original teachings. This week UTSA baseball alumnus Chase Keng was kind enough to make time to join Dan on episode 3 of Around the Bird Bath. The guys preview UTSA's next two weekend series (Utah and A&M Corpus Christi) while Chase also shares a few stories from his time at UTSA. It was interesting to hear Chase say that the baseball team considers Rice to be their primary rival! I also appreciated Chase sharing his initial impression of Coach Hallmark as a guy who was going to immediately turn the baseball program around. Thanks again to Chase for joining us! Hope you guys enjoy the episode.

Host Bob St.Pierre is joined by PF & QF's Public Relations Manager Jared Wiklund for a fun and wide-ranging conversation with Keng Yang. The guys start by recapping the trio's snowy pheasant hunt to close out the Minnesota season, then talk about Yang's journey from anti-hunter to hardcore, every-single-free-day pheasant hunter. Episode Highlights: • St.Pierre explains how the group navigated snow drifts up to their nipples to find pheasant hunting success in the Minnesota cattails on the closing days of the state's pheasant hunting season. • Yang talks about how the addition of a German wirehaired pointer changed his perspective from anti-hunter to a person who loves hunting, and is adamant about giving back to wildlife habitat conservation as a volunteer for Pheasants Forever and a variety of other conservation groups. Keng Yang will be speaking on the Public Lands Stage at National Pheasant Fest & Quail Classic 2023 in Minneapolis on February 17-19.
The captain is back in the studio with Bob St Pierre, Sheri Baker talks about owning Gunflint Pines, Rachel Bush from Pheasants Forever talks about her role in North Dakota, and Keng Yang goes through his transition to becoming a hunter.
