Where did the initial spark for this story come from, and when did you realize this was the right mix of heart, comedy, and monster chaos? 2. The cast of characters is incredibly eclectic, from a rocker reminiscent of Ozzy Osbourne to a classic Hollywood beauty, a trailblazing female director, a stand-up comedian, and a career TV star. How did you approach building such different personalities and making them feel like a believable found family? 3. Nil Vendrell Pallach is handling the art. What did Nil bring to the project visually that made them the perfect collaborator for a story that moves between comedy, nostalgia, and kaiju action? 4. There's something inherently funny about ageing celebrities being the only ones capable of protecting a world-ending monster. What interested you about pairing the idea of aging, fading fame, and second chances with something as huge and destructive as a kaiju? 5. With all these Hollywood types, I was reminded of Caccoon, about a group of old folks who encounter an alien eggs that give them youth, with your new series on the way do you think this the old person encountering sci-fi elements is an underused corner of fiction? 6. What made dark horse the right publisher for this? 7. You've written everything from Judge Dredd to Petrol Head. Where does Hidden Springs sit for you creatively? Does it tap into a different storytelling muscle compared to your other work? 8. (Fun question) Your heroes include a rocker, a comedian, a movie star, and a legendary beauty escorting a baby kaiju across the countryside. If you had to add one more retired celebrity archetype to the team, who would it be and what ridiculous skill would they bring to the kaiju babysitting mission?

Steve Epting sticks around for one more issue as Kurt Busiek surprises us all in bringing back one of the 90'siest characters to ever 90s, Bloodwraith!  And then the next art team of Alan Davis and Mark Farmer arrive to help usher in a new era for the team!

After what seems like forever, we're back to the main title, with not nearly as many side trips, since the limited series are going to be pretty...limited for the remainder of this Avengers volume.  We start out by checking in on the crew from Avengers: Infinity as they collide with the current Marvel crossover, Maximum Security!  And then former Avengers artist Steve Epting returns to help us move some subplots forward!

This week on Comics and Chronic we discuss Velvet by Ed Brubaker & art by Steve Epting published by Image Comics.  “From the best-selling creators of CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER comes VELVET, a slick and sexy new take on the cold war spy genre. What if the secretary to the man running the world's most top secret spy agency was actually their most dangerous weapon, once upon a time?”But first the boys discuss underwater aliens, James Cameron's role in 9/11, and Immaculate Constellation. Mike Tyson & Jake Paul were used a distraction from the under water aliens/congress hearing. Operation Sleepy Baby is uncovered. This book has hard James Bond vibes with a strong female lead.  A lot of real life references to historical espionage history. Becky 2: The Beckoning is coming to theaters near you! Once you start reading this book you won't be able to put it down. We come up with a new sound effect for the sound board specifically made for Cody's thinking. This is Brubaker at his best. Everyone agrees this is one of the best comics we've read. Why does Ed Brubaker end a lot of his stories with someone by the beach?  Will we delve deep into the origins of the Blue Waffle STD? Hemos oído hablar tantas veces de aquellas series de los 80 a punto de ser canceladas a los que llegaba un nuevo autor con una visión, las revolucionaba y convertía, no sólo en un éxito, sino en un clásico inmortal. El Daredevil de Frank Miller, La Cosa de Pantano de Moore, el Thor de Simonson… pero no es tan habitual una etapa de estas características en nuestro siglo. Cuando llegamos a finales de 2004, en un momento en el que estaba naciendo una nueva Marvel, el cambio de siglo no había sido especialmente amable con el Capitán América y las ventas no funcionaban. Fue entonces cuando llegó un guionista pujante, que se había granjeado cierta popularidad en DC con series como Batman, Catwoman o Gotham Central. Su nombre era Ed Brubaker y, para acompañarle, volvía a Marvel Steve Epting, un dibujante con una dilatada carrera con la casa de las ideas en series como Los Vengadores o Factor-X, que regresaba tras una temporada fuera. Mezclando la influencia de Steve Englehart o Jim Steranko con James Bond, Tom Clancy, El caso Bourne o la serie 24 e incorporando a lo gráfico los nuevos dictados que había venido marcando Bryan Hitch, nos daban una historia trepidante; una historia que mezclaba la tradición con una visión completamente nueva que se convertiría en un clásico instantáneo. In which the Mister joins me in reviewing CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER (2014), from directors Anthony and Joe Russo and a screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely and based off Marvel characters created by Joe Simon and artist Jack Kirby.  The "Winter Soldier" storyline by Steve Epting, Ed Brubaker and Michael Lark is also credited. Steve Rogers, a.k.a. Captain America (Chris Evans) returns in the thrilling second film of the Captain America trilogy. After Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) is assassinated, and he is branded a fugitive and hunted by SHIELD, the story masterfully combines the espionage/thriller genres with the super hero story to tell a compelling story where Cap must confront his past to discover the truth behind a sinister conspiracy to take over the world.  The film clocks in at 2 h and 46 m, is rated PG-13 and can be found streaming currently on Max. Just finished The Marvels Project Hardcover and had to give you my quick take on it.  Another stunning story from Ed Brubaker and Steve Epting.  They create the story of the early days of Marvel's superheroes at the onset of World War II.  Thomas Halloway, the Golden Age Angel is our narrator takes us on an amazing journy.  We aslo get glipses of other forgotten heroes The Phantom Bullet The Ferret The Thin Man The Firey Mask Mr. E Electro John Steele Hurricane.
