The season may be over for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but Trey Downey and Len Martez are still back with a brand new edition of the Downey and Martez podcast.  The guys begin this week's show by discussing Tampa Bay's embarrassing 31-14 loss to the Dallas Cowboys in the wildcard round of the playoffs. The guys try to zero in on what exactly went wrong. Len echoes quarterback Tom Brady's post game comments, while Trey highlights one specific stretch that he thought swung the game in Dallas' favor. Before moving on to the breaking coaching news, the guys discuss Brady's “goodbye” to the Tampa Bay media. This leads to a debate on whether he is truly done in Tampa. And if he is, does that mean his career is over as well? The conversation then pivots to the news that offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich has been fired. Trey & Len talk about whether the Bucs should've made this move during the season and pondered why it wasn't. The fellas then put the spotlight on Todd Bowles and the fact that all signs point to him returning as Buccaneers head coach. Trey and Len agree that they aren't surprised by the move but disagree on whether that was the move Tampa Bay front office should've made. The duo closes the podcast by looking at the NFL divisional playoff round and letting you know if they expect any upsets.  Don't forget to subscribe to Bucs Nation on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, iHeart Radio, or wherever else you get your podcasts. Week 17 is here and while it is no longer the final week of the regular season it is the most important one for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. On a brand new edition of Downey and Martez, Trey Downey and Len Martez look ahead to a game that could decide the season against the Carolina Panthers after reacting to the Bucs overtime win against the Arizona Cardinals on Christmas night. Trey is anything but positive about the win and focuses on how the offense looked abysmal until the closing minutes. Downey thinks the defense plays well for the most part with the offense putting them in bad positions, but Martez focuses on the teams struggles to stop the run.  On the offensive side of the ball, Trey asks Len if he had any answers to the puzzling situation regarding the lack of targets for wide receiver Mike Evans and his drop in production . Because of the success in the closing minutes of the game, Trey wonders if the Bucs should try to go more up-tempo early in games while Len states "We are way past that point." In looking ahead to Sunday's showdown at Raymond James Stadium with the Carolina Panthers, Trey says the Bucs just need to sell out to stop the run and force Panthers quarterback Sam Darnold to beat them. Len points out that even if the Bucs sell out to stop the run it isn't a guarantee that they will win considering what happened in week seven in Charlotte. As far as what will happen on Sunday, Len is done making win-loss predictions with this team while Trey's take is absolutely no result will shock him.  Don't forget to subscribe to Bucs Nation on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, iHeart Radio, or wherever else you get your podcasts. We have reached week 15 in the NFL and it is time for another new edition of Downey and Martez. After discussing a thrilling win last week, Trey Downey and Len Martez are left discussing an embarrassing loss to the San Francisco 49ers that dropped the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to 6-7. Even though Len told Trey he didn't think the Bucs had a chance to win last week, Trey starts the podcast by asking Len if he thought it would be that bad. The guys then move on to discussing the nugget that dropped that quarterback Tom Brady holds meetings with the skill players on Saturday nights where he tweaks the game-plan. Trey focuses on the weirdest part being that these tweaks aren't cleared with the coaching staff and that Head Coach Todd Bowles and offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich find out about them on gameday.  The guys then turn their discussion to the coaching staff and have a disagreement in terms of what will save their jobs and have them back with the team next year. With the loss, the guys had to tackle the fact that the division title isn't a sure thing and discuss whether the Carolina Panthers or the Atlanta Falcons are a bigger threat right now. The guys close the podcast by previewing Sunday's game against the Cincinnati Bengals and debating which injured player who might return would be the biggest shot in the arm for Tampa Bay.  Don't forget to subscribe to Bucs Nation on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, iHeart Radio, or wherever else you get your podcasts. Is it time to drink some pewter and red kool-aid once again? Trey Downey and Len Martez tackle that very question on a brand new edition of the Downey and Martez podcast. Trey starts the podcast by asking Len where the success that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers had on the final two drives was for the majority of the game. Len focuses on one thing, unimaginative play-calling. Trey then asks Len about offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich's lackluster response to questions about fixing the offense. Trey also asks Len how much of left tackle Donovan Smith's struggles can be pinned on who has played next to him this year. While Trey says that quarterback Tom Brady turned into “That Dude” in the final minutes, there is one aspect of the future hall of famer's play that is worrying him.  The guys then move on to the upcoming game against the San Francisco 49ers. While Trey points out that it could be a huge game for the Bucs in terms of playoff seeding Len explains why he doesn't think the result will be different than what he expected before the injury to quarterback Jimmy Garroppolo.  The guys close the show by making predictions on who they think will win the Heisman Trophy.  Don't forget to subscribe to Bucs Nation on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, iHeart Radio, or wherever else you get your podcasts. As the NFL season enters December, Trey Downey and Len Martez are back with another new edition of Downey and Martez. On this week's podcast, the guys look back at the overtime loss to the Cleveland Browns.  That loss finally brings Trey to the realization that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are who Len has been saying they are for the majority of the season, a mediocre football team. In looking back at the loss, Len focuses on the Bucs lack of a running game against a horrible Browns run defense while Trey focuses on the coaching and lack of clock management at the end of the game. While Len says he doesn't necessarily buy Head Coach Todd Bowles' excuse that he was worried about an interception thrown by quarterback Tom Brady, Trey says it might be even worse if it was just a lapse of judgment. The decision and subsequent excuse leaves Trey wondering if Bowles is meant to be a head coach in the NFL.  Trey asks Len whether he thought Bowles could possibly be one and done as the Bucs head coach. The guys agree that one & done is definitely possible should the Bucs miss the playoffs and the guys also agrees that 9-8 is probably the absolute ceiling for this team at this point. Before closing the podcast, Trey asks Len what the keys will be in a Monday Night Football battle against the New Orleans Saints. The guys also discuss the recent report whether or not Brady could be returning to the New England Patriots in 2023 is a real possibility.  Don't forget to subscribe to Bucs Nation on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, iHeart Radio, or wherever else you get your podcasts. Len agrees that the win in Germany was a step in the right direction but adds that Tampa still needs to prove that they are that team on a regular basis.  The guys then heaps praise on linebacker Devin White after another great game in the midst of difficult circumstances. The conversation then turns into a debate on whether rookie running back Rachaad White has unseated veteran Leonard Fournette as the starting running back on this football team. Before looking ahead to the future the guys examine the Bucs laughable attempt at a trick play from all angles. Trey begin the podcast by asking Len if we will end up looking at the game-winning drive against the Rams as the one that saved the Bucs season. Len doesn't hop on that positive train. He states it was good that the Bucs won but points out just how bad of a team the Rams are. Trey praises the defensive performances of linebacker Devin White and defensive tackle Vita Vea while Len brings up the sobering reality of how long it has been since Tampa Bay defense has forced a turnover. The talk then turns to the offensive side of the ball and the continued struggles of the running game. The conversation centers around running back Leonard Fournette and Len points out that it is time to start putting some of the blame on Fournette along with the offensive line and play-calling. In response to that Trey asks Len if he thinks we will continue to see more of running back Rachaad White and less of Lenny as the season rolls along. Before continuing on to this weekend's game, Trey heaps praise on rookie tight end Cade Otton and asks if he was the best off-season acquisition that the Bucs made. The podcast moves on to the NFL international series game against the Seattle Seahawks. Trey focuses on the implications of this game in terms of playoff seeding and how much momentum it could bring the Bucs. Len focuses on the fact that the confidence of the Bucs needs to continue to rise and they still have a long way to go before becoming a true playoff threat. Before getting to all of the negative from that football game Trey asks Len a simple question. Did the Bucs play better in that game than in their previous two losses to the Carolina Panthers and Pittsburgh Steelers. Once the one item of positive news gets out of the way, the guys move on to a discussion about linebacker Devin White, a player who has been under a microscope. The guys discuss White's rough night, what seemed like a lack of effort and his decision to initially not speak to the media this week. Trey also poses the question to Len on whether White is still one of the best linebackers in the league.  Len then turns to what he perceives as a lack of leadership in the Bucs locker room and Trey brings up a defensive player that he'd like to see step up and be more vocal amidst the struggles. Trey and Len then touch on another rough offensive performance and wonder if it is still blasphemy to think that quarterback Tom Brady has finally crossed into the threshold of being old.  Len then tells you why he thinks we will see a lot of mediocre football against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. The guys close the podcast by discussing Tampa's decision to stand pat at the trade deadline and debate which trade around the league will have the biggest impact on the 2022 season.  Don't forget to subscribe to Bucs Nation on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, iHeart Radio, or wherever else you get your podcasts. The guys discuss how the game could've been different if Evans caught the pass and his post-game comments about how it changed the team's confidence.  Trey then focuses on why he thinks this team could turn things around if the red-zone offense struggles are fixed while Len stated that would be great but the Buccaneers would still have issues because of their run defense. The conversation then turns to coaching and the guys discuss how much this team is missing former head coach Bruce Arians. Trey even poses the question on whether or not there is a scenario where Arians returns to the coaching staff in any kind of official capacity.  That question jumpstarts another topic and whether or not offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich makes it through the season. Trey start the podcast by listing all of the issues that the Bucs had against the Steelers. Len focus during the the start of the podcast is on the defensive side of the ball and the late 3rd down conversions the Buccaneers defense gave up. Trey agrees that those were concerning, but he presses Len on if he's actually more worried about the Bucs defense right now. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers wrapped up another week of training camp and once again there were no shortage of storylines for Trey Downey and Len Martez to get to on a new edition of Downey and Martez. The show began once again with a conversation about quarterback Tom Brady. The guys discussed the news that  “That Dude” will be away from the team until after the second preseason game against the Tennessee Titans. Trey and Len broke down how the absence impacts the Bucs moving forward.  The discussion stayed on quarterbacks, but this time the guys were talking Kyle Trask. Trey asked Len for his first hand take on how the second year quarterback has looked in practice after all of the negativity that has been on social media. There was then a rare moment of agreement between Trey and Len in terms of the amount of playing time Trask should get in the preseason.  Finally, the guys discussed if there were any surprises on the Bucs initial depth chart and provided a few names of players they'll have their eyes on Saturday night at Raymond James Stadium. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are a full week into their 2022 training camp. And that means Trey Downey and Len Martez have a fresh edition of Downey and Martez to get you through your weekend.  Trey began the podcast by asking Len about the general vibe of camp and if camp had a noticeable difference under Head Coach Todd Bowles. The conversation then pivoted to Tom Brady and Len had some glowing praise and a new nickname for the now 45-year old quarterback. Trey and Len then talked about some of the position battles including how Robert Hainsey has been doing in terms of filling Ryan Jensen's shoes. The guys also discussed how Tyler Johnson was preforming so far in camp and how the young receiver's willingness to play special teams might be how he makes the team. It was then time for Len to take his mulligan as he did a complete 360 on one rookie after seeing him in action at camp. The guys then closed the show by discussing the ongoing situation surrounding Deshaun Watson and just how many games he will be suspended. Training camp has began for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and it has been a very newsworthy few days for the team.. All of the hot topics are covered on this week's edition of Downey and Martez. Trey Downey and Len Martez start the show by discussing the injury to Ryan Jensen and what it means for Tampa Bay. The guys discussed whether the Bucs might go out and get a veteran center or if Robert Hainsey would take over the starting job if Jensen misses extended time.  The conversation then turned to the signing of Julio Jones. Trey and Len agreed that his redzone presence is probably the biggest benefit to signing the vet. Trey questioned though whether signing Jones is worth having to cut one of the Bucs younger options.  Finally Trey and Len discussed some young players on defense who have already been impressive during training camp.  Don't forget to subscribe to Bucs Nation on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, iHeart Radio, or wherever else you get your podcasts. The guys then moved on to what they agreed is the biggest storyline of training camp, the offensive line. The guys discussed and debated who might end up with the final starting guard position between Aaron Stinnie, Robert Hainsey, and Luke Goedeke.  The guys also discussed the tight end position including the signing of free agent Kyle Rudolph and rookie Cade Otton being cleared to practice. Finally, the gents moved on to the defensive side of the ball. Len told you why safety Mike Edwards should have an edge over newly acquired Logan Ryan for one of the starting safety positions. First on the docket is the Atlanta Falcons. Trey and Len discuss the Falcons decision to move on from Matt Ryan and Len explains why he thinks the situation in Atlanta is the worst quarterback situation in the NFL. Trey ponders if the Falcons might give rookie quarterback Desmond Ridder a shot at some-point during the season to see what he has, but Len thinks Ridder would be set up to fail. The guys then discuss the limited weapons Marcus Mariota or Ridder have to work with because of wide receiver Calvin Ridley's suspension. The guys also examine whether Kyle Pitts can make a big leap in year 2 and whether Cordarelle Patterson will offer fantasy owners the same success he did in 2021.
