The ratification of the Equal Credit Opportunity Act, or ECOA, 50 years ago marked the end of illegal lending practices that discriminated against borrowers based on their race, sex, age, religion, national origin, marital status, and source of income. Financial inequality, however, is still a persistent issue in the United States. One solution to this ongoing issue is closing the education gap when it comes to topics surrounding financial literacy. In this special episode, we sit down with Courtney Pettway, CEO and Co-Founder of KidVestors, and Ashley Leftwich, CEO of Rock the Street, Wall Street. These organizations are two of the 50 projects supporting women's financial independence that were awarded funds as part of the SoFi Give Her Credit Program. Both organizations seek to empower young people by teaching them the fundamentals of saving and budgeting, the benefits of growing their wealth through investing, and exposing them to female role models in math and finance. Kidvestors is an award-winning educational platform that teaches kids about money and finance tops in fun, accessible ways. Rock the Street, Wall Street is a non-profit organization that teaches the fundamentals of investing and finance to high school girls and undergraduate women. Florida State softball is coming off of another dominating season, finishing as the national runners up and capturing both the ACC regular season and tournament titles. Brian and Gwyn are back for another round of fall podcasting, where they dive into the other teams in the conference that FSU Softball will look to go against in the 2024 season. Starting with Boston College, they talk about where the Eagles finished last season and the new additions added. Following BC, a look into the Clemson Tigers, who FSU will not play in the regular season. The past several season, Clemson has been atop the conference, vying for the top spot. Gwyn talks about how the program will fare as they are looking to make a push for OKC. Another program that is looking to stay at the top of the ACC is Duke, who has a steady group of returners. An experienced Duke team, who finished in the Durham Super Regional, also look to make their first trip to Oklahoma City for the first time in program history. Georgia Tech loses some key players, but returns staples in the circle. In terms of offense, they will have to look to transfers and underclassmen to help them make that push into the NCAA Tournament. Last season, they ended 2023 in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals and will need the help of Blake Neleman and an improved offense to get them back into the postseason. Similar to GT, Louisville also saw key departures, but reloads from the transfer portal. A six person transfer class, all with Division I experience, as well as Power 5, will help the Cardinals get into the top tier of the conference, and push teams like FSU, Clemson and Duke. Lastly in this episode, Brian and Gwyn discuss NC State. The Wolfpack are in a complete rebuilding year under 1st time Head Coach Lindsey Leftwich. Coming over from LSU, she brings over a decade of experience from a high level. Not only does coach Leftwich bring in a SEC transfer, but adds SEC and B1G experience to her coaching staff. After previewing the first 6 teams in the ACC, Brian and Gwyn catch up on Big Brother, as well as an exciting announcement that could impact Brian's availability for some of the season! Hour 2: Sports Director Jeff Hathhorn joined the show. A fair expectation is to expect the Penguins to compete and try to make another playoff run. Stanley Cup? We have to wait and see how other teams adapt and injuries. The Karlsson team makes you think this team won't be boring. Jeff thinks guys like him as a teammate and how he's working with the other stars. There are some concerns about him defensively. The power play is a major point of emphasis. Jake Guentzel is a game-time decision tonight and it's possible! Originally he was supposed to miss five games but Jake has healed well. Coming out of the bye, can the Steelers look like a similar team as last year down the stretch? Take care of the ball, take advantage of opportunities, and let the defense thrive. Byron Leftwich has approached the Steelers about joining the coaching staff, according to Mark Kaboly. The team has more or less been ignoring him. What could the Steelers do differently with Leftwich as a staff member? Why not have a third party be another voice during the bye week to talk to Pickett? It's someone the Steelers know. It would be similar to Bryan Flores coaching with the team. Why wouldn't adding Leftwich be a good thing? It's not like he wouldn't have significant say compared to Tomlin and Canada. Dorin thinks Leftwich should go to Art Rooney Jr. and get him on board. Out of the bye, can we expect the Steelers to look similar to how they did against last year's bye? Crowley thought that would be the starting point, but will settle for a team that runs the ball, doesn't turn it over, and plays great defense. 93.7 The Fan's Chris Mack joined the show. Expectations for Erik Karlsson. Chris thinks this has to be a playoff team and do some damage after the acquisitions they made. He doesn't know if they have Cup-level depth but it's better than last year. James Farrior is this week's guest on Oh Mama.
Chris posed a question to Poni and Donny. The guys debated if the Steelers would be better off how they are now or at 2-3 with Kenny Pickett looking more like a stud. Ben Roethlisberger can see that Kenny Pickett is bailing from pockets too quickly. Kenny offered a rebuttal and said he has the athleticism to make plays outside of the pocket. One of our top callers shared his excitement for hockey season. Should the Steelers answer the phone when Byron Leftwich calls? Even if it's known why he's calling, why not at least answer and be open to new ideas?
Mike Tomlin compared Steelers-Ravens to some of the significant rivalries in college football. How good can we feel about the Steelers after yesterday? Did the Ravens throw the game away? What happened at the end of the game which led to the Steelers having to give Baltimore the ball back with roughly 45 seconds to go? Poni said they should've run the ball and tried to get the first down instead of kneeling down, which included a penalty that stopped the clock. Poni argued that Najee Harris is perfect for situations like that, so why not use him there? Mark Kaboly reported that Byron Leftwich has reached out to the Steelers regarding a coaching/consultant role and the Steelers have basically ignored him. Would he still be better than Matt Canada? The guys think they are so dug in with Canada that they won't make a change. Can this team win a playoff game with Canada as the OC?
CRICKEY! What have we stumbled upon here, huh? Is that? What a minute, is that Texas State's Offensive Coordinator Mack Leftwich dressed as Indiana Jones, holding the Holy Grail? Andrew and Jakob talk about life, football and the origins of TXST's high-flying scheme they have affectionately named "The Supercat Offense." We kick off tonights show a bit off script. What would you do if you were the Ravens? Seems like Lamar is worth the money right? Just don't let this turn into an Aaron Rodgers offseason..PLEASE. Then Jimmer gets us into the news talking about the Vikings moving on from Ed Donatell. A much needed move to keep the Vikings going in the right direction. But who should his replacement be? Buccs fire their OC Byron Leftwich and Francis Ngannou is officially out of the UFC. The interesting thing about both of these stories is that both of these men will be just fine. Any smart team needing an OC will be sure to bring Leftwich on board and Francis will get paid to fight celebrities. Deion Sanders Lands 5 star recruit (and #4 overall) as the nations top CB flips to Colorado. Colorado is going to be a PROBLEM immediately. Who wouldn't want to play with this man, who is quite possibly, the best NFL player...ever??? California lawmakers introduce a bill that pushes for college sports revenue sharing....that's it for the description. Tune in for the conversation because it gets serious. Lastly we make two warm whiskey wagers around the NFL playoffs this weekend. Some bet with their head, some with their heart. Who will end up sober??!! Conor and Gary are still sifting through the aftermath of *SUPER* Wild-Card Weekend, including what was likely the end of Tom Brady's run in Tampa. Assuming he comes back, where does it make sense for him to play in 2023 (and, likely, beyond?). Then, a conversation of three very different outcomes for offensive coordinators. Joe Lombardi, as expected, is out with the Chargers, opening up a chance to work with Justin Herbert in one of the NFL's most desirable non-head coaching jobs. Byron Leftwich is out in Tampa after a rocky year (and seemingly little public support from his now-former quarterback). And Ben Johnson says “no thanks” to a collection of underwhelming head-coach openings and returns to the Lions for at least one more year. Plus, a discussion of special-teams pressure in light of Brett Maher's MNF struggles, and a look at the weekend's Conference Semifinal Games. In one of the worst losses in NFL history, the Bucs put up a pitiful showing by losing 21-3 to the lowly Carolina Panthers on Sunday. Despite the fact that the Panthers have been trading away players left and right, the Bucs could't do anything on offense, defense or special teams. The Pewter Report squad breaks down all the egregiousness from the game where the offense could only muster up three points. It might be time for offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich to go because nothing is working for this team.
