Tampa Bay Buccaneers re-sign Jamel Dean, trade Shaq Mason, and could pursue Lamar Jackson as their quarterback. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday made a big splash in the open negotiating window ahead of NFL Free Agency by bringing back one of their own, signing cornerback Jamel Dean to a four year, $52-million dollar deal. This locks up their other starting cornerback opposite Carlton Davis and gives them a little more draft flexibility. On Tuesday, the Bucs traded guard Shaq Mason to the Houston Texans for a swap of late round picks in the upcoming NFL Draft and all signs now point to Robert Hainsey moving to guard in the upcoming season. Don't put it past Jason Licht and the Buccaneers Brass to go after Lamar Jackson when NFL Free Agency officially begins on Wednesday. With the quarterback market thinning out quickly, the Bucs may be one of very few suitors outside the Baltimore Ravens that could find a way to put together an offer for the former NFL MVP and secure their quarterback position for the foreseeable future. The Buccaneers kicked off joint practices with the Dolphins today. Things got chippy quite a few times, a common occurrence in joint practices. The Bucs will face the Dolphins at home this Saturday. We probably won't see starters, but could get a peak at the offensive line prospects, as well as the new defensive line. How will the Bucs fare this season with a completely new interior offensive line? This is a big question mark as Bucs fans eagerly await news on Ryan Jensen's injury. He's a huge anchor up front, particularly when both guards are new this year. A new center would make the line vulnerable where it would hurt Brady the most: right up the middle. We have confidence in Robert Hainsey, but Ryan Jensen will be sorely missed. A glimpse of light, however: Jensen was spotted at practice with just a knee brace. Time will tell how serious the injury is. Our prediction is the Bucs won't show their cards any sooner than they have to. However, they need to name starting guards soon so the guys have time to gel together. Todd Bowles is aware of this predicament, voiced also by Donovan Smith. The unofficial depth chart shows Aaron Stinnie at left guard and Shaq Mason at right guard. They're both the most logical at those positions, but there's still a competition for the job. The NFC South is in rough shape. Unofficial depth charts show the Falcons are weak at wide receiver. The Saints show Jameis Winston as starting quarterback, with Taysom Hill gracing the top of the tight end roster. The Panthers are a mess, with Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold both at the number one quarterback spot. Injuries have plagued the Bucs at training camp. However, it appears it is mostly heat related (with the exception of Ryan Jensen's injury). His replacement Robert Hainsey went down this week and was carted off the field. After trading Shaq Mason and watching Ted Karras leave again in free agency, the Patriots targeted a guard out of Chattanooga to fill a huge hole on their offensive line. Cole Strange, listed at 6'4, 307 pounds, should come in and play immediately after a stellar career that began at Air Force before a transfer to Chattanooga in 2016. 1. This spring, the Jets heavily pursued Chandler Jones in free agency and were one of the two finalists to acquire Tyreek Hill via trade. Thus, many believe the Jets will be targeting an EDGE pass rusher and a WR with their two top-10 picks. However, there is also a lot of buzz that the Jets could be eyeing Sauce Gardner, arguably the best corner in this class, at 4 overall. That said, as valuable as the cornerback position is, only four corners have been top five picks over the past 11 drafts. Why would Sauce Gardner be a great pick for the Jets at that spot? 2. After trading for Tyreek Hill, the Dolphins do not pick until 102 overall. But there is a reasonable argument to be made that they've quietly built a VERY strong roster on both sides of the ball. On defense, they have an underrated front with Emmanuel Ogbah, Jaelan Phillips and Christian Wilkins and a STACKED secondary with Xavien Howard, Byron Jones and Jevon Holland. On offense, they significantly upgraded the offensive line by signing Terron Armstead and acquiring Tyreek Hill gives them one of the scariest groups of offensive weapons in the entire league with Hill, Jaylen Waddle, Mike Gesicki, Chase Edmonds and Raheem Mostert. I just can't find a glaring hole on this Dolphins team outside of the mystery that is Tua Tagovailoa. Can you? 3. When it comes to the Patriots, it can be argued that corner and EDGE are their biggest areas of need, but there's a decent chance the cupboard in terms of value at both positions could be bare when the Patriots are on the clock at 21 overall. Should that be the case, two other directions they could go are at guard after the departures of Ted Karras and Shaq Mason or off-ball linebacker. If both Devin Lloyd and Zion Johnson are available for the Patriots, who would you take and why? 4. The Bills will be headed into 2022 as a strong Super Bowl favorite, and the acquisition of Von Miller in free agency could indeed turn out to be the final piece of the puzzle. But there are still some areas of concern on this otherwise strong roster. Buffalo could use another boundary corner to line up opposite Tre'Davious White, and they can use a legitimate lead-dog at running back. I am FAR from the biggest fan of selecting a running back in the first round, but if no corner that's available meets the value of the 25th overall pick, would Breece Hall be a good pick for the Bills there? 5.
