On this episode of Combs Crew, we checked out "Where Pleasant Fountains Lie," from season 2 of "Star Trek: Lower Decks." The reason we checked this out, of course, is because Jeffrey Combs guest-stars as "Lord Agimus," a scheming, tiny evil computer. None of us have really seen Lower Decks before, but we had a lot of fun! It's a funny episode and we (surprisingly) don't have many complaints! We also spend a very, very long time talking about licorice for some reason. We hope you like this episode! Have you seen Lower Decks? What are your thoughts? Let us know through Instagram or Twitter! Also, please like, subscribe, and rate the podcast if you're a Combs Crew fan!

Mariner and Boimler are stranded on an uninhabited planet with a sentient computer. On the Cerritos, Lt. Commander Billups must prove his engineering abilities to an old adversary. A consultant arrives on the USS Cerritos to run drills that require the lower deckers and bridge crew to swap duties. In this episode of the podcast, Wes and Clay discuss "Where Pleasant Fountains Lie" and "I, Excretus" from the second season of Star Trek: Lower Decks. Plus! The duo chats about riding a joke, doing a half-measure when you should go all the way, and the many roles of Jeffrey Combs. Are you looking for older episodes? We're reaching the home stretch when it comes to Season 2 of Lower Decks! This week, we discuss "Where Pleasant Fountains Lie," which unfortunately is an episode title that we had serious problems remembering (even though we were fans of the episode itself). We get a healthy dose of Billups' backstory, while Boimler and Mariner retread some old ground. After the episode discussion, it's time for another stop at Counselor Troi's office! Johnson shares his brush with personal injury (which may or may not have anything to do with signing up for a matchmaker), while Mike is looking forward to adopting a dog with Dennis. And with a puppy now in the mix - how exactly are we going to balance our personal / podcast lives when there are TWO new Star Trek episodes every week come November!? We would love to hear from you! You can reach us by emailing deepspacepride@gmail.com - drop us a note, comment, or question. Just don't be mean - though if you are, we might ignore you! "We too are machines, just machines of a different type." Taking a cue from this week's episode of Star Trek: Lower Decks, Season 2, Episode 7, "Where Pleasant Fountains Lie," Kevin, David, and Mike discuss the history of artificial intelligence in Star Trek. From Nomad and the M5 to Data and Lore to ARGIMUS, they've been malicious, malfunctioning, and marvelous. But what about sentience? What about souls? And what does the way we treat AI tell us about ourselves, our view of our neighbors, and our relationship with God? All that plus Star Trek news and an audience question await. Positively Trek 143: Lower Decks Review: “Where Pleasant Fountains Lie” (2.07)“Did His Kingdom Come?” Star Trek: Lower Decks continues to push the envelope with this titillating episode featuring some unexpected and welcome backstory for Chief Engineer Billups! Shakespeare references and Ren Faire types abound in “Where Pleasant Fountains Lie.” In this episode of the Positively Trek Lower Decks review show, hosts Dan and Bruce give their thoughts on Billups' culture, the requirements for him to take his position as King, and his meddling mother. We also talk about a familiar-sounding megalomaniacal sentient computer and his attempts to pit Mariner and Boimler against one another. Holy crud, it's Jeffrey Combs! Season two of Lower Decks warps right along as the ASNP crew reviews episode seven, "Where Pleasant Fountains Lie."This week, we found out that Billups is royalty, probably ace, and his mom is a Queen who lives on a ren fair in space. If that doesn't excite you, Jeffrey Combs also made his triumphant return to the Trek Universe. What did the team think about how the episode handled Billups's sexuality? Was Jeffrey Combs' return to Star Trek worth the wait? And finally, did Boimler hit a new benchmark in his career?
