Bloody Elbow fight experts, Zane Simon & Eddie Mercado, are here tonight – Sat, July 10th, to breakdown the UFC 264: Dustin Poirier vs Conor McGregor 3 PPV event, which was broadcast from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV. The guys will have hot takes, possible next fights, as well as reactions to the overall event. The UFC showcased the big trilogy fight tonight! It was predicted to be an all out battle for bragging rights between fight veterans Dustin Poirier & Conor McGregor in the main event and Gilbert Burns vs. Stephen Thompson in the co-main event. Returning to the octagon for that main event, we had Dustin ‘The Diamond' Poirier, entering the bout with a remarkable 27-6 record. The former Interim UFC Lightweight Champion, was currently ranked #1 in the UFC lightweight rankings and #6 in the UFC men's pound-for-pound rankings, with the most knockouts in UFC Lightweight History at 8 tonight. Poirier was banging it out in this lightweight tilt against ‘The Notorious' Conor McGregor – for the third time around. McGregor, the former UFC Featherweight and Lightweight double-champion was currently at #5 in the UFC lightweight rankings and entered the bout with his equally impressive, 22-5 record. In the co-main event, we had a Welterweight scrap between #4 ranked, Stephen ‘Wonderboy' Thompson, one of the most accomplished strikers in UFC history, and his opponent, #2 ranked, expert grappler, Gilbert ‘Durinho' Burns. Dustin Poirier has come a long way since his first meeting with Conor McGregor. He won an interim UFC belt, defended it against the UFC ex-featherweight champion Max Holloway, and was able to take on Khabib Nurmagomedov but ended up losing the UFC lightweight title. Conor McGregor is also, seemingly, in a different place. Let's remember that McGregor's come-up was something out of a Disney movie. Kind of. He ran through several big names before ending Jose Aldo's reign in the UFC. Now, as a father, Conor McGregor also seems to have a certain maturity to him. His approach to his training camp and interviews shows a different person, not just as a UFC and MMA fighter. It's what makes him a different breed. Dan Hooker put on a show with Poirier last year which got him a chance to co-main an event with Poirier and McGregor. He will take on the MMA and Bellator veteran Michael Chandler, the same guy who decided to make weight in case Khabib Nurmagomedov or Justin Gaethje couldn't make weight for their UFC title fight. This is a classic case of length versus wrestler, and age versus experience. Chandler is a world class athlete and primo MMA fighter, but Hooker is an absolute beast and loves that he can get down and dirty with the best of them.
