His fight against MMA legend Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at UFC 139 (2011) was inducted into the Fight Wing of the UFC Hall of Fame in 2018. He also just released a memoir entitled Hendo: The American Athlete. In this interview, we discuss what it was like growing up with a tough and athletic father, why he decided to wrestle, when he and his coaches realized he had what it took to become an Olympian, why he started fighting MMA while still chasing his Olympic dream, what it was like fighting in the early days of MMA where you typically had to fight multiple times in one night, when he decided to pursue MMA full time at the age of 30, his legendary fights against Wanderlei Silva, Fedor Emelianenko, and Shogun Rua, his legendary knockout of Michael Bisping, his thoughts on God and Jesus, the one fight of his he would leave for humanity, and much more. A riveting memoir by the first MMA double champion and two-time Olympic wrestler who cut a polarizing path as a firebrand figure and went on to become a legend. "Dan Henderson is a savage. He came from a pure, wrestling background with very little striking training, and he went and became one of the most dangerous, one-punch knockout artists in the history of the sport." -Joe Rogan Dan "Hendo" Henderson was the first fighter in MMA history to become a double champion, winning championships in PRIDE Fighting Championships and Strikeforce. He faced the biggest names in MMA, on his unparalleled run through the early days of MMA through its remarkable rise in popularity, squaring off against the likes of Fedor Emelianenko, Anderson Silva, Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, Wanderlei Silva, Michael Bisping, Vitor Belfort, and Renzo Gracie. Henderson's first fight against Mauricio "Shogun" Rua in 2011 is considered one of the greatest fights in UFC history. In this no-holds-barred look back on his life, Henderson provides context and insight into the biggest fights of his career, while reflecting on the wholly unique upbringing that shaped him into the warrior he needed to be to win. With his trademark humor, he sheds light on his two trips to the Olympics, his transformative time training in Europe and Russia, and his up-and-down relationship with Dana White. Hendo: The American Athlete is a thrilling window into the life and mind of a true legend. There will never be another fighter like Hendo.

We thought it was weird from the start that Fedor Emelianenko wanted to have his retirement fight against Ryan Bader. It was. Friends, Fedor looked every single day of his 46 years on this planet on Saturday in the Bellator 290 main event. The greatest MMA heavyweight of all time barely threw a punch en route to a first-round TKO victory for Bader. Yep. Sad. And strange. But at least Bellator seemed to understand the magnitude of the moment. Also, UFC 284 is this weekend, featuring a bonafide superfight main event where Dana White can't remember one his champions names. So that's hilarious. Plus, Conor McGregor is back. He's just gonna ease his way back in (to the USADA testing pool and also to competition) by coaching TUF opposite Michael Chandler. This episode is presented in part by NordPVN. DAMN! They Were Good celebrates the careers of the most exciting and influential fighters in MMA history, and on the second episode of 2023, the MMA Fighting crew remembers the best of Fedor Emelianenko as he prepares for the final fight of his legendary career. Starting his career in 2000, Emelianenko rose to prominence in Pride Fighting Championships, claiming the heavyweight championship, and the title of "Baddest Man on the Planet" in 2003, a title he held until his loss to Fabricio Werdum in 2010. In 2017, Emelianenko moved to Bellator MMA where, after a 23-year career, he fights for the final time this Saturday, in a rematch with Ryan Bader. In honor of Fedor's impending retirement, host Jed Meshew is joined by MMAFighting's Shaheen Al-Shatti, Alexander K. Lee, and E. Casey Leydon to remember their favorite moments of the GOAT's career. The Fighter vs. The Writer is back and this week Matt Brown and Damon Martin discuss the latest news happening around combat sports, including Fedor Emelianenko's retirement fight happening at Bellator 290. Emelianenko is widely regarded as one of the greatest heavyweights of all-time, but does his résumé really top everybody else to make him the best to ever do it? Also this week, we'll discuss the recently announced fights with Alex Pereira going to war with Israel Adesanya in a rematch while Gilbert Burns prepares to clash with Jorge Masvidal. Brown will also give his thoughts on Jake Paul signing up to face Tommy Fury as well as his recent deal to join the PFL roster where he expects to make the transition into mixed martial arts. The UFC welterweight veteran offers Paul some friendly advice about making the move into MMA while adding that he'd even be willing to help him get ready for his debut. Over the last few days, a slew of massive fights have been announced for the UFC, including two big ones for UFC 287 with Alex Pereira vs. Israel Adesanya 2, and Gilbert Burns vs. Jorge Masvidal. On Monday evening, another big fight was confirmed in the featherweight division between Max Holloway and Arnold Allen for the main event of the promotion's April 15 fight card. While the matchup is great on paper, was it the right fight to make for the division? On an all-new edition of Heck of a Morning, MMA Fighting's Mike Heck reacts to all of those bouts, and why the Holloway vs. Allen matchmaking is very risky right now. Additionally, listener questions include a potential Leon Edwards fight against Masvidal if both guys are victorious in their next bouts, Bellator 290, if Fedor Emelianenko is the greatest heavyweight of all-time, Shavkat Rakhmonov's next move if he defeats Geoff Neal at UFC 285, who Dustin Poirier's next opponent could be, and much more. We are led to believe that Saturday's Bellator 290 will include the last fight for The Last Emperor. The 46-year-old Fedor Emelianenko will do the damn thing one more time in a rematch against Ryan Bader. Do we really believe this will be it for him? That's hard to say. If we had our druthers would Fedor's swan song be a rematch with Bader? Nah, not really. But this man was once a phenomenon and he might still be the greatest heavyweight of all time. We guess that means he gets to write his own ticket. Plus, yet more layoffs in the MMA media world and Derrick Lewis finally meets up with Sergey Spivak. Learn more about your ad choices.
