In this episode of 2414, Dan and Shane explore ways we can think and pray about people in and outside of our our lives.Scripture References:1 Timothy 2:1-3"First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior."Philippians 4:4-7"Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness[a] be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."Luke 6:27-31“But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. To one who strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also, and from one who takes away your cloak do not withhold your tunic either. They contain many marvels—peculiarly artistic, beautiful, and moving: “mythical” in their perfect, self-contained significance; and among the marvels is the greatest and most complete conceivable Eucatastrophe. But this story has entered History and the primary world; the desire and aspiration of sub-creation has been raised to the fulfillment of Creation. The Birth of Christ is the Eucatastrophe of Man's history. The Resurrection is the Eucatastrophe of the story of the Incarnation. This story begins and ends in joy. It has pre-eminently the “inner consistency of reality.” There is no tale ever told that men would rather find was true, and none which so many sceptical men have accepted as true on its own merits. For the Art of it has the supremely convincing tone of Primary Art, that is, of Creation. To reject it leads either to sadness or to wrath. It is not difficult to imagine the peculiar excitement and joy that one would feel, if any specially beautiful fairy-story were found to be “primarily” true, its narrative to be history, without thereby necessarily losing the mythical or allegorical significance that it had possessed…The joy would have exactly the same quality, if not the same degree, as the joy which the “turn” in a fairy-story gives: such joy has the very taste of primary truth… It looks forward (or backward: the direction in this regard is unimportant) to the Great Eucatastrophe. The Christian joy, the Gloria, is of the same kind; but it is preeminently (infinitely, if our capacity were not finite) high and joyous. But this story is supreme; and it is true. Art has been verified. God is the Lord, of angels, and of men—and of elves. Legend and History have met and fused."Don't forget to continue the conversation at home, in the car, at work, or anywhere you can find someone to talk to! The Bible consists of 66 separate books that most people in the world would consider to make up the entirety of The Bible, but what about the various texts, documents, and other writings written around the same time as the 4 Gospels or the rest of the New Testament? Should those 'books' be in the Bible too? In this episode of 2414, Pastor Dan and Shane will dive into how certain books of the Bible were put in while others were left out.Don't forget to continue the conversation at home, in the car, at work, or anywhere you can find someone to talk to! "The telephone game rules are simple: Gather 3 or more players. The person starting the game thinks of a word or phrase and whispers it into the next player's ear only once, with no repeats allowed. That listener tries to correctly repeat that same word or phrase into the next player's ear." From: empoweredparents.coThe telephone game is often used as a reference when trying to describe how something might lose its credibility over time through many people. For example, someone might claim that the Bible has lost what it's trying to state because it's been copied and retold so many times. In this episode, we dive into how the Bible was transmitted or copied and what elements have been preserved or how some passages might be off from how it was originally written.Don't forget to continue the conversation at home, in the car, at work, or anywhere you can find someone to talk to! As a reference to the direction of our conversation, we use Lee Strobel's "Case for Christ" as to how and why the authors of the Gospels might have written the books and whether these books can be trusted or not.Don't forget to continue the conversation at home, in the car, at work, or anywhere you can find someone to talk to! "Why is the Bible true?" "Because the Bible says it is." "But how do we know that's true?" "Because the Bible says it is." These might be conversations you've heard in the past in regard to how people explain that the contents of the Bible are trustworthy. While this explanation of the Bible might be chalked up to the fallacy of "circular reasoning," digging deeper into the contents of the Bible helps us understand how these arguments can be justified...
