Did you watch this week's YouTube video? Germán and I have been giving each other lessons this week! In this week's video Germán is riding Poppy and working on the leg yield to the canter, it's a super exercise for helping the inside hind be a little more engaged. It can really help you get the correct lead or if you are having trouble with canter transitions or your horse tends to throw their head up. We also got to answer some great questions that came in from you all too!Happy Riding,AmeliaPS. Don't forget to sign up for my Training Scale Webinar on Sunday 20th July!
Have you watched this week's YouTube Video yet? She guides you through a thoughtful and strategic approach to planning your improvement and success as a rider. She goes through a mid-year goal check-in & progress assessments, and how to use the training scale to identify challenges. She also shares tips for overcoming setbacks, correcting rider position, developing consistent warm-ups, and balancing progression with patience.I hope you enjoy this episode!Happy Riding,AmeliaDon't forget to check out the Rider Position Blueprint here!
Last night's live was all about the secret to sofy, quiet hands. We started with a great question about the correct rein length for communicating with your horse, so many more interesting questions about contact, and a great conversation about the Scrambled Eggs!Happy Riding,AmeliaPS. Don't forget to RSVP for my Independent Seat Webinar this Sunday!
Last night we were talking about the Independent Seat. Did you see this week's YouTube featuring Ingrid Klimke and her best tips to develop an independent seat? She is one of the most incredible riders I've ever watched. With Mother's day just around the corner, I was honored to have my mom JoElyn on the live last night. We shared some amazing memories from the past few years, and what we have both learned from our moms. I know I wouldn't be where I am today if it wasn't for her incredible support! What have you learnt from your mom?PS. Don't forget to RSVP for my Flying Changes webinar this Sunday!
We are all so excited for the Canter Challenge so last night we were talking all about my favorite exercises you can use to improve your canter. The 30 Day Canter Challenge has started... but there is still time to join! Click here to check it out!
Next Thursday, May 1st is the first day of my 30 Day Canter challenge, I am so excited about it!The canter can be a tricky transition to master, but it is such a fun gait to ride. Once you figure out the transition, and you can keep your horse relaxed and round, it's the most magical feeling!Last night Germán and I talked about how we have prepared our own horses for the canter, and how to get ready to canter. I know the canter can be intimidating, I know I feel that way when I'm trying new horses in Europe.I created this challenge to help riders prepare themselves for the canter, to improve their canter transitions, their canter quality, and their canter seat! Join the Challenge here!
The 30 Day Canter Challenge is officially open for enrolment, it's going to be a fantastic 30 days, and I'm giving away $10,000 to the top transformations! The Canter Challenge has been the MOST requested challenge and I'm so excited for it!No horse is born knowing how to be round at the canter, or how to carry a rider at the canter. That's why I've put so many hours into designing the Canter Challenge to help both horse and rider with their canter! When you are learning online, you are not multitasking, you can focus solely on what you're learning, instead of a thousand things at once and only some of it sinking in!In my courses you can send in your own riding videos for review, my team and I can watch your video and give you tips and exercises to work on with your horse. In the Canter Challenge you get 30 days of community and support in our private Facebook group where my team and I can cheer you on, and give feedback and tips on your videos!I'm so excited to offer two divisions to accommodate a variety of riders! We have the Trotter's Trophy for riders who are not cantering yet or do not want to canter, and we have the Canter Cup for riders who are already cantering and want to work on the canter transition or the quality of the canter!Have you signed up yet? Here's the link!Happy Riding,Amelia
In last night's live we talked about posture and balalnce in the saddle. This is something you need to be mindful of all the time. Slouching also means we end up looking down which we don't really want to do! We had some super questions about riding without stirrups. We shared some exciting info about the upcoming Canter Challenge. The canter is definitely the most challenging gait and I have some really great content planned for this challenge! I know I have students at different levels of their riding, so this is the first time we are going to have two divisions for the challenge, the Trotter's Trophy and the Canter Cup!Happy Riding,AmeliaDon't forget to download my Free Canter PDF!
Last night we talked about how to plan your ride. It's so important to look up, looking up helps you create a plan for where you want to go. Your horse won't go to where you're not looking , listen in to hear our other tips for planning your ride! Also hear about how Germán's experience of recording his very first ride-along podcast!Don't forget to download my Free Canter Checklist here. Happy Riding, AmeliaPS. I would really appreciate if you would leave a review right here in your podcast player!
Last night we talked bout how to prepare for the canter. The better your basics, the better your canter! We shared tips on improving your canter, and your transitions. We also shared our own thoughts on how we prepare ourselves and our horses for showing. Download my Free Canter PDF Guide: https://amelianewcombdressage.com/free-canter-resource-amelias-canter-checklist/?utm_source=Podcast&utm_campaign=Canter+Challenge
Last night's live was a little different as I was live from the horse show in Del Mar. Today I'm riding the PSG and the I1 on Saturday so that's super exciting! This week's YouTube video was on the walk, my biggest tip is don't forget to practice it!I also introduced my new puppy Messi, so let me know if you have any potty training tips!I have a brand new Canter Checklist, you can download it for free here.
Have you watched this week's YouTube video? I would recommend watching it as it's a really interesting one. I taught a symposium in Idaho late last year and I had a super student on a Lusitano and he started anticipating. So I shared how we worked with him when he started to anticipate the canter transition. If you have a horse that starts anticipating and getting tense, it can be hard. I would recommend working on some circles and patterns and focusing on tempo. Dressage is definitely the hardest sport!I also shared an update about Harvey, he's going to stay with my mom in Colorado for a year to have a break and just hang out in the pasture for a year.I want to remind you all to love and cherish your horses and appreciate every day you have with them.PS. Check out my Free Patterns & Figures PDF here.PPS. If you want to check out the Correct Connect Tackified Gloves that I wear, you can see them here, and use the code Amelia10 for a discount.
Last night we talked about rider position, what we can do to improve our rider position, and most importantly, how improving our position can improve our horses! We had so many questions from the audience about their common rider position problems, how those problems can affect our horses, and most importantly, how to fix them!If you enjoed this, you'll get so much out of my FREE Rider Position Webinar click the link to signup!
We are talking about keeping your hands still because that was this week's video, and it's something we sometimes don't realise they're moving quite so much! The "secret" to keeping your hands still is to have an independent seat. Your hands are an exacerbation of what your seat is doing; if your seat is bouncing, you hands are bouncing even more. If your seat is better connected to the movement of your horse, your hands are steadier and quieter. The first of my free Rider Position webinars is coming up this Sunday! You can RSVP here.
Tune in to hear our live from the barn and meet Germán's new mare! Here's the link to RSVP for my rider position webinar. And if you want to watch this episode on YouTube and see our horses, you can catch it here!

We got a really exciting update from Germán about his new horse, tune in to hear more about her! We also talked about bend and had some super questions on turning our horses. We shared some tips on how to make sure your horse is bending correctly and some exercises you can do to help your horse bend. Happy Riding,AmeliaPS. Last night in the live I talked about riding an older horse, considerations to make for an older horse, and the wonderful partnerships people have with their older horses. It was such a great trip, we fit so much into only 5 days and got to see some really great horses.PS. Don't forget to RSVP for my Groundwork Webinar this Sunday Feb 2nd.
Last night Nicole had a great session with you guys all about half halts. We had so many questions sent in about half halts and as a licenced judge and a coach, Nicole has such a great way of explaining the half halt and answering all those questions!Check out my half-halts workshop here!
Last night Germán and I talked about hot, tense horses and horses that jig, so they get anxious and can't quite settle. It can be so offputting when this happens at a show, we discussed some student experiences and how you might handle a situation like this.We also talked about how your rider position can contribute too, so if you're holding your breath or tense, your horse is going to feel that. Download my Free Patterns & Figures PDF here.
