The Elephant In The Room Property Podcast | Inside Australian Real Estate
Australia's housing crisis isn't just a social problem — it's an economic one.In this episode, Robert Pradolin, founder of Housing All Australians, argues that secure, affordable housing must be treated as essential infrastructure for the nation's prosperity. With over 40 years in residential development, Robert brings both insider knowledge and bold solutions to a system that has been failing for decades. We dig into how the private sector can mobilise unused buildings as “pop-up shelters,” why compassionate capitalism is redefining the role of developers, and how innovative construction methods like lightweight timber can cut costs and carbon emissions. Robert also lays out the staggering numbers behind the crisis: a $290 billion shortfall in social and affordable housing, and the economic risks of inaction — including the threat of civil unrest. The conversation challenges the myth that profit and purpose are mutually exclusive, showing instead how private capital, community land, and government policy could combine to unlock large-scale solutions. We also explore global models like inclusionary zoning, what Australia can learn from them, and the need for a national pipeline of prefabricated housing. If you've ever wondered why governments keep stalling, what's holding back institutional investment, and what it will really take to solve this crisis, this episode is essential listening. The message is clear: housing for all isn't optional — it's the foundation of a stable, productive, and fair society.Episode Highlights00:00 – Introduction01:51 – The Journey and Motivation Behind Housing All Australians03:04 – Compassionate Capitalism and Private Sector Involvement04:10 – Strategies and Initiatives for Affordable Housing05:52 – Success Stories and Case Studies09:51 – Challenges and Economic Imperatives21:23 – Comparing Global Approaches to Affordable Housing26:21 – Innovative Construction Techniques and The Green Project27:57 – The Cost of Urban Growth and Housing Diversity28:51 – Timber Construction and Its Benefits30:43 – Innovations in Construction Techniques33:15 – The Role of Government and Private Sector in Housing35:18 – Addressing Homelessness and Housing Affordability37:30 – Unlocking Empty Bedrooms for Key Workers43:11 – Final Thoughts and RecommendationsAbout the GuestRobert Pradolin is the founder of Housing All Australians, a national for-purpose organisation working to harness the resources of the private sector to deliver housing solutions for vulnerable Australians. With a 40-year career spanning greenfield subdivisions to high-rise towers, Robert has held senior roles in some of the country's largest property companies. His journey from mainstream development to housing advocacy was sparked by a confronting realisation: while the industry was serving those who could afford it, government had abandoned its responsibility to house society's most vulnerable. Since then, Robert has become one of the most vocal advocates for treating housing as essential economic infrastructure, not just social welfare.Through Housing All Australians, he has spearheaded projects repurposing vacant buildings into temporary shelter, advanced economic research on the cost-benefit of social housing, and promoted innovative construction methods to reduce costs and emissions. His vision of “compassionate capitalism” challenges the perception of developers as greedy profiteers and instead calls for a business-led response to one of Australia's most urgent crises.Connect with RobertWebsite:

More info at BenandTravis.com/Dodgeball I was speaking to someone the other day who seemed to be pretty down on the young people of today. Granted, he works in a field where he interacts with young folks entering the work force and I'm sure he experiences the worst in people from time to time. However, as I heard him make a few comments that seemed to be down on younger people, I couldn't help but think about all the things I've witnessed this summer. May ended with watching several kids graduate who already had in their minds what they wanted to spend the rest of their lives doing. Some heading to college while others going straight into the work force. I've watched the commitment over the past few years of those who have chosen both of those paths and been impressed. Are companies pursuing frictionless experiences at the expense of truly understanding what problems they're solving?Join hosts Chuck Moxley and Nick Paladino as they talk with Mehdi Rizvi, a digital transformation expert who began his career in operations and supply chain before pivoting to customer experience. Mehdi reveals eye-opening insights about the disconnect between departments in large organizations, where siloed KPIs create fractured customer journeys—like a luxury retailer who successfully drives traffic to their website and store but fails to provide basic product specification sheets when customers are ready to buy a $30,000 item. He challenges the common approach to AI adoption, explaining that most companies haven't even mastered basic analytics or data warehousing but are blindly applying AI without clear use cases. Throughout the conversation, he emphasizes that creating a truly frictionless experience requires meticulous attention to operational details and understanding the end-to-end customer journey.Main Takeaways from this episode:Start with foundations — Before implementing technology solutions, thoroughly map your current processes, understand customer journeys, and identify real problems rather than pursuing shiny objects.Connect the dots — Break down silos by ensuring people, processes, and technology work together across departments, as frictionless experiences cannot be created within isolated teams.Make simplicity intentional — Simple customer experiences like Amazon's two-click returns don't happen by accident; they result from intensive work to map and optimize every touchpoint, especially when things go wrong.Want more tips and strategies to create frictionless user experiences? Welcome to the Triple P Life Podcast! In this episode, Dr. Jay LaGuardia welcomes Michael Reddington, a certified forensic interviewer (CFI) and the author of "The Disciplined Listening Method." Michael shares his expertise in applying strategic observation and persuasive communication skills to uncover hidden value in high-stakes conversations. Drawing from his experience in investigations and teaching interrogation techniques, Michael explains how leaders, negotiators, sales professionals, and HR personnel can effectively navigate challenging interactions to achieve desired outcomes. Episode Takeaways: The ability to find common ground is crucial for successful communication, regardless of the context or the person you're speaking with. Illustrating your understanding of a situation before investigating the problem and seeking accountability can help reduce resistance and encourage open communication. Using the word "you" in conversations can be dangerous, as it may trigger defensiveness and hinder progress. Instead, make illustrative statements to demonstrate your understanding without assigning blame. When faced with a "brick wall" in a conversation, work with it instead of against it. Avoid arguing rationally against emotional problems, and instead, try to understand the underlying issues and find a way forward together. Leaders must consistently provide evidence of their trustworthiness through their actions and follow-through. Failing to do so can lead to a breakdown in trust and a decline in team performance. Deciding when to have a "no BS conversation" depends on the context and totality of circumstances. Factors to consider include the clarity of expectations, the resources provided, the magnitude of the issue, and the level of support given. Effective communication is a skill set that can be learned and developed, whether in business or personal relationships. Focusing on desired outcomes and putting emotions aside can help generate the results you seek.
