Del & The Wave started as a dream for something more -- to achieve what other people always wished they could, but couldn't for the reasons life provides. So they sold their stuff and bought a crappy white van, thus the beginning the journey of a lifetime. Since then they've played across the Midwest, bringing their tight harmonies and folk roots to the Indie Pop Rock scene with accessible, yet deep & meaningful lyrical themes....topped off by a brotherhood hell-bent on speaking in as many horrible accents as possible. Today I am speaking with Del & The Wave from Columbus, OH. During our conversation we talk about: What inspired the band to form Reasons the band up rooted from Connecticut to move to Ohio The steps the band has taken to grow as a group and as individuals I loved hearing about the process of moving states away and finding a city they wanted to settle in. I could relate to moving for the purpose of growing as a musician. We get into that during our conversation and as we talked we got to know each others reasons for being so invested in music. I hope to bring Del & The Wave back to Dayton soon. Challenge Something I hope that everyone can take away from this conversation is taking a calculated risk for a project can have an amazing return, especially with the right group of people. Cincinnati’s Colly nimbly balance robust rock songcraft and electronic pop ambition, maintaining the perfect push-and-pull among seemingly opposite ends of the spectrum. (For the uninitiated, think The 1975 producing Kings Of Leon, and you’re halfway there.) Formed in 2017, the quintet—Jake Hollen [lead vocals], Andrew Hopkins [drums], Colin Langdon [guitar], Anthony “Tony” Morick [guitar], and Chris McGrath [bass, backing vocals]—quietly drummed up a buzz with early acclaim from Alternative Press, Substream Magazine, and more in addition to attracting a growing fan base fueled by marathon touring. The group’s 2018 full-length debut, I Can’t Sleep at Night [Paid Vacation Records], illuminates their intimate, idiosyncratic, and infectious style. I have Jake and Andrew from the band Colly on the show. During our conversation we talk about: Hard lessons the band has learned Being new to touring The amount of patience it takes to be a professional musician While listening to this episode pay attention to what each member brings to the table.
