“Time's moving like lightning. Time shifts like a glacier.”It's been a journey. A quite memorable journey for Ohio-based metalcore stalwarts The Devil Wears Prada. Frontman Mike Hranica joins the IUF podcast today to talk about their 8th and upcoming studio album, “Color Decay,” and how this record in particular is shaping up to be the band's best one yet. Being in this profession for 17 years can be taxing, but for Mike, it is also done with a passion unmatched while he, along with his talented bandmates, have always one-upped themselves with each album release. In addition, it's also the experiences of growing up during this timespan in the band's success which makes the result that much more fulfilling. From touring the world, to their growing fanbase that have identified TDWP as major influences, Mike has always been humbled by the acknowledgements, and in result – the feelings being built up over the years have translated into memorable tunes in the heavy metal world. “I believe you can define our band by Color Decay.” says Mike, and this album has shown that The Devil Wears Prada do stretch their limits to new territories while staying true to their core sound. An important facet of this record deals with the production side of things, which involves TDWP band member and keys player Jon Gering. Mike takes a good moment to praise Jon, which has more than provided a sense of comfortability for him and the crew during pre-production. The chemistry is at the best it's ever been for The Devil Wears Prada, and it's heard loud and clear on “Color Decay." We also ask Mike about his side projects, Dogma Coffee and Hacksaw Hockey – A small coffee and hockey apparel business respectively, which have both been thriving and serve as important strong suits for him outside of the music. Join us with a talented frontman who has aged like fine wine, both musically and personally. “Color Decay” from The Devil Wears Prada is a strong contender for album-of-the-year talks, and it's time to let the gates open for a record that will please many music fans worldwide. It's been a journey, and while time moves like lightning, the strong narrative for the band continues to build. “Color Decay” unleashes September 16 via Solid State Records.Stay connected with The Devil Wears Prada, visit: https://tdwpband.com/, https://www.facebook.com/tdwp and https://www.instagram.com/tdwpband/Stay connected with IUF, visit: https://interviewunderfire.com/
We had the pleasure of interviewing The Devil Wears Prada over Zoom video. The Devil Wears Prada — Mike Hranica [vocals], Jeremy DePoyster [vocals, guitar], Mason Nagy [bass], Kyle Sipress [guitar], Jonathan Gering [keys, synthesizers], and Giuseppe Capolupo [drums] — recently announced their eighth album Color Decay. It arrives on September 16 via Solid State. Pre-order it here. The Devil Wears Prada have been consistently delivering since forming in 2005. Fans voted 2009's seminal With Roots Above and Branches Below one of the 5 Greatest Metalcore Albums in a Revolver poll, with the magazine christening it "a true metalcore landmark." The group has notched six consecutive Top 5 debuts on the Billboard Top Hard Rock Albums Chart, including Dead Throne [2011], 8:18 [2013], Space EP [2015], Transit Blues [2016], The Act [2019], and ZII EP [2021]. The latter served as a sequel to one of their most beloved projects — 2010's Zombie EP. In the wake of the EP, the group exceeded a-quarter-of-a-billion cumulative streams and views. During 2021, the musicians decamped to remote hideaways together in Wisconsin and Desert Hot Springs, California. This time around, Jon took the reins as producer, collaborating closely to assemble a rich sonic architecture for what would become Color Decay. The band will also embark on a Summer 2022 headline tour. TDWP will hit the road on August 4 in Milwaukee and the trek runs through September 10 in Columbia, South Carolina. Stray From the Path and Dying Wish will also appear. All dates are below. Get tickets here. The Devil Wears Prada will perform the Zombie EP and the ZII EP in full, along with a selection of greatest hits, making each show a special night for TDWP fans both new and old! One of the earliest examples of Christian metalcore in the “scene”, The Devil Wears Prada have never been afraid to wear their faith on their sleeves. And though their earliest records are filled with worship, TDWP like Underoath and Maylene and the Sons of Disaster before them presented their faith as a lived experience rather than an imposition, allowing both Christian and secular fans to enjoy their music equally. TDWP has endured the ebbs and flows of a volatile scene that has lacked stability for nearly a decade. Despite this, the band have managed to persevere through member instability, and significant label changes to continue to produce music that demonstrates growth, whilst also retaining their signature metalcore sensibilities. Mike has been the frontman of the Dayton, Ohio metalcore band The Devil Wears Prada since its inception in 2005. The group has released 7 studio full-lengths, most recently The Act. Of those 7 albums, 6 of them have been charted on Billboard as high as 10th. In May of 2021, the group released a follow-up EP to their 2010 Zombie EP, titled ZII, which sees the band go back to their heavier roots. Mike not only fronts TDWP, but he also dabbles as a published writer, entrepreneur, avid hockey fan/player, and much much more which we get into on the show.
