Virginie Lemay-Vriesde is the only guest so far who has a second presence in our podcast. And that is because there are so many topics to talk about with her that we never get enough. In last year's episode (check out ep. 16 of season 1 - https://anchor.fm/impact-by-choice/episodes/S01--Ep--16---Active-listening-in-leadership-with-Virginie-Lemay-Vriesde-e3be7r), we spoke about women in leadership, her book "My revenge on life" (link to Amazon below) and many more interesting topics. Today, the emphasis of our conversation is on the topic of DIVERSITY, which has lead to an original approach our guest suggested companies should consider for interviewing, especially during these times of uncertainty. There are so many angles from which diversity can be regarded and adopted! We advise you take a good listen to this episode, as it is "highly educational", as per Rahila Khan's words. "Feedback is one of your best tools to meet your goals. Whether in business, leadership, or your personal life. Skillfully used, feedback becomes as an inexpensive and highly effective way to invest in your people. It drives engagement, strong team retention, and constant growth. When it’s handled poorly, feedback becomes your biggest danger. Emotions run high. People take everything personally. Nothing gets done. What was meant to be a source of improvement and engagement is now is a source of tension, frustration and often anxiety. The future belongs to coach-like managers, who focus on people development." These are the words of today's guest, Raf Baron "The F-word Coach". In our conversation, we covered topics like Servant leadership, Self-awareness (also in relationship with children), how to catch yourself and control yourself from exploding (by observing the patterns your body sends before it happens), lack of sleep and its effects, patience, the importance of explaining vs “do it because I said so” – from childhood to management. Throughout my adventure on LinkedIn, I've been blessed to meet tons of amazing people. And one of them is the lovely and extremely #beautifulwoman Jacqueline Way. After watching her TedX talk ("How to create happiness in your life every day" - https://youtu.be/dwmKJ8-EQL8) and seeing a video on the aforementioned platform, I told myself I can't let such opportunity slip through my fingers. So I invited Jacqueline in the show. My guest has dedicated herself to social good projects, both personally and professionally, for over two decades. In 2010 she started a parenting project (called #365give) with her oldest son (3 years old by then). The concept was to give back to the world every day, for one year. But this adventure amplified in such a manner that today it's implemented in education institutions, with the support of educators. The program is an educational tool for teachers, powered by students, from kindergarten stage to 12th grade. The program assists in achieving Curriculum, Core Competency and Social Emotional Learning goals set out by the BC Ministry of Education through daily giving activities. It allows students to develop the necessary intellectual, personal, social, and emotional proficiencies, in order to engage in deep and life-long learning. I am happy to say that this year I decided to get involved with the #365give challenge, on 17th of May, by teaching my own children what giving looks like. You can follow/ contact Jacqueline by accessing these links: https://www.365give.ca, https://www.linkedin.com/in/jacqueline-way-6bb76737/, https://www.facebook.com/365give/. In today's episode, Rahila and I speak about chapter 7 ("Arian, Joaquim and Artema") of my book - "The Man, the Moon and the Casquette". *** Artema has been raised in the same orphanage as Joaquim and she is currently working at Rada's restaurant. One day Artema is caught red-handed while she was trying to steal from the owner. Nonetheless, the story goes way beyond the surface, as we learn the reason why the woman attempted theft. Rada's approach towards the situation is way different than what some regular person would adopt. *** Before addressing today's question to my guest, I read a short excerpt from the chapter, so that you can get immersed into the story and learn the circumstances. You can contact Rahila Khan via her LinkedIn profile - https://www.linkedin.com/in/rahila-khan-873900143/ - and we would love to hear from you. Louise H. Reid is a LadyBoss coach, who dedicates her life to empowering other women to acknowledge their true potential and tap into their uniqueness. She is also a wonderful podcast & radio host (look for "The Louise H. Reid Show"). In the beginning, I was waaaaaay out of my comfort zone having her in my show (as she's someone I greatly look up to), but she managed to create a very warm and friendly atmosphere. Therefore, we spoke about a wide range of topics, such as our inner child, hopscotch, talking badly to oneself, how she loves group coaching (for a particular reason) and many more. You can contact Louise via her LinkedIn profile (https://www.linkedin.com/in/lreidchrl/) , Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/louisehreid/) and her website (https://www.louisehreid.com). Dom Marcell (on his real name Dom Collins) is an entrepreneur who gave up a successful career at Corporate America to dedicate himself to his higher purpose. Singing has always been his greatest passion, ever since he was in high-school. In today's episode, we speak about how he handles both the business and the artistic side of this adventure. However, I couldn't help myself but to ask about how does an emerging star see the power of choice. This is definitely an unusual episode, from several angles. As I have been provided with the express consent of the rightful owner, you will get a chance to hear - in the background - one of his latest tracks - "Church night" and a part of "D.T.K". It's not something I am precisely proud of, yet I am sharing this in hopes it helps someone who is walking in the same shoes as I do. It's OK to understand that these things happen, but it's important to also take action to make things right. Shane Wallace is the CEO of WorkApp, a platform that allows everyone to advertise for FREE. In the name of transparency, I will tell you that the first challenge was to actually have Shane accepting to re-record this episode. And the reason behind this was the fact that I wanted to give you, the listeners, a different perspective on who Shane Wallace is. In the first place, we had a normal, serious conversation, but I wanted to break the pattern for a short while. So, despite the support that I like to offer to this project, in this episode my challenge goes exactly towards the flispside. We had a lot of fun while recording this episode, so I hope you will have fun as you listen to our conversation too. If you do, please leave us a review on iTunes and share it with everyone you know. In part 1 of this episode we bring insights from chapter 3, which presents us with the fact that Dom has been abandoned by his father when the boy was 12 and ever since he grew up into an orphanage. In part 2 of the episode, we take a question from a reader and provide a reply. Feel free to send us questions by email at impactbychoice@gmail.com or by leaving us a voice message (if you listen via Anchor), as we would love to answer in future episodes. The reader pointed out something really interesting: the fact that, in this chapter Rada takes over the governance of the orphanage, but maybe against her will. Meaning that Dom never asked her what her dreams were in regards to her future, but neither did Rada see his legacy as a burden. On the contrary, she didn't question his decision to pass her his legacy.
