So, if you're ready to be inspired and motivated to take action towards your dreams and aspirations, tune in to this episode with Lesley Thomas and Shaa Wasmund MBE.Key TakeawaysMoney is not the root of all evil. The obsession with money and prioritizing it above everything else is the root of all evil. Our money stories can be changed, and limiting beliefs around money can still exist at any level of wealth.Encouraging children to budget and plan for their future is a valuable lesson that can set them up for success.Developing a healthy relationship with money comes from within and starts with self-belief and self-worth.Changing your relationship with money is a journey and a work in progress, and there is no one-size-fits-all solution.Connect with Shea Wasmund MBEWebsite https://www.shaa.com/Facebook https://www.facebook.com/shaawasmundInstagram https://www.instagram.com/shaawasmund/LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/shaawasmund/Connect with Lesley ThomasFREE Resources www.themoneyconfidenceacademy.com/resources/My website www.themoneyconfidenceacademy.com/Join my Facebook Group www.facebook.com/groups/letstalkmoneyandmoreYoutube channel www.youtube.com/@themoneyconfidenceacademyFollow me on Instagram www.instagram.com/lesleythomascoaching/Connect with me on LinkedIn www.linkedin.com/in/lesley-thomas Hosted on Acast. Shaa is joined by award-winning coach, motivational speaker, and author of the incredible new book, 'Energize', to talk about his incredible business journey, and how he learned to put the pursuits of his heart and mind above the sometimes superficial achievements we find in the workplace KEY TAKEAWAYS Far too often, success comes down to the label we acquire in our careers. But these superficial labels tend to come at the cost of our health, happiness and relationships. If you're in a profession that is leaving you unfulfilled, and you wish to jump ship, don't do so without a plan. Build a bridge from one path to the other. The world has changed in radical ways. People are being placed at the centre of decisions and culture in business, meaning that the value of individuals is finally being recognised. When we experience an event, setback, failure or win, the way we interpret it will be very different from the way that others do. This means that we are always in control of choosing our own perspective, which changes our reality. BEST MOMENTS 'Success, for me, was determined by my job title' 'It kickstarted the longest journey we as humans make - from our heads to our hearts' 'I felt like Superman without the super powers' 'You need somewhere, as an entrepreneur, to go and have conversations with other people' VALUABLE RESOURCES Building A Bigger Table Podcast - https://omny.fm/shows/building-a-bigger-table To sign up for Made For More go to shaa.com/m4mexperience ABOUT THE GUEST Everything that Simon does is built to energise people to see their world differently and to awaken their imagination of what is truly possible so that they can live a better story. Join Shaa and a few of the women from the ‘Made for More ‘cohort as they explore the role of the ‘Made for More' Community including why it is so special and how it aids them in always pushing for more in business and in life. They talk about how having a place you can come together and be honest without fear of judgement, can be invaluable in pushing your dreams, goals and life forward. An uplifting and inspirational episode full of support, encouragement and collaboration. KEY TAKEAWAYS Having people who get you, who understand your struggles and normalise your ambition is imperative to achieve success and retain your mental wellbeing and self-belief. You can share ideas, brainstorm and just talk with understanding and support. Our path isn't unique to us, but it might not be shared with our closest family and friends. So, finding a peer support group can really help you connect with others, to have great conversations, work with you and importantly, celebrate with you too. Belief is essential to working towards your goals. If you don't believe you can do it, then you won't. This is why it can be a struggle to talk to people who are held back by their own limiting beliefs and fears. You need to be around likeminded individuals who will uplift you not hold you back and this is where the right community can come into play. Women aren't less ambitious, we just tend to have more limiting beliefs due to the way society treats us. Women aren't less passionate or ambitious, they have just been taught fear and often worry about asking questions. Women are always trying to be the best in every area of their lives. We can unfortunately feel like asking for help is a sign of weakness but this couldn't be further from the truth. Asking people for help is a sign of strength and it also signifies to others that it is ok to ask when you need support. Made for More isn't about learning but implementation. Doing the work that needs to be done for everyone to get and see results. It's important to compete with yourself and collaborate with others. Your only competition should be with yourself, we are all on our own journeys and if we can help each other by collaborating, communicating and supporting one another then we can all help each other win too. BEST MOMENTS “It's not always easy to normalise your ambition” “When you have a high, people don't get it. So, you then start questioning yourself. That self-belief can be really challenging to overcome, especially when they are working alone” “When you have a win, it's a win for everybody…it's a celebratory win for everybody and if one person can win, they we all can win” “It's completely revolutionised everything in my business, because of all the support I have had in the group” “This is your lane and you're going to slay it your way” VALUABLE RESOURCES Building A Bigger Table Podcast - https://omny.fm/shows/building-a-bigger-table MEET YOUR HOST Hi, I'm Shaa. DESCRIPTION This week, Shaa shares how women over the age of forty are now the fastest growing business demographic, but also the group that is granted the least amount of funding, and why that needs to change. KEY TAKEAWAYS Women over 40 are now the fastest growing group of business owners out there. This has come from a greater need to create financial security and freedom for themselves and their families. This is the time in life when women have hugely valuable experience, a wide network … and yet, limited funding. Women need a safe space to normalise their ambitions. We need to surround ourselves with like minded women who champion each other. BEST MOMENTS 'We're going to level up our conversations and normalise our ambitions' 'We can't change anything by ourselves - we have to do this collectively' VALUABLE RESOURCES Building A Bigger Table Podcast - https://omny.fm/shows/building-a-bigger-table MEET YOUR HOST Hi, I'm Shaa. This week, Shaa shares how to make your life easier - from the home to your business. Including the Wheel Of Life technique, plus three core practices you can employ immediately, that will ease the burdens in all areas. KEY TAKEAWAYS Many of us feel as though we have had our wings clipped by lockdown over the last couple of years. When we start to feel like prisoners, our life feels overwhelming. Analyse who you are spending time with. This is a fundamental contributor in making life and business easier. Communities of like-minded people will inspire and provide accountability. We can refine the tasks ahead by separating them into three columns: Do, Ditch or Delegate. Prioritising the jobs in front of us, and deciding what's truly important, can serve to free up valuable time. When we feel energised and empowered, it's far easier to face our challenges head on. Surround yourself with the right people, the right tasks, and the right energy and we will be far more productive. BEST MOMENTS 'If you're anything like me then the last few years have made you feel like a prisoner in your own home' 'It's not about learning something new. It's about implementing what we already know' 'If it's been on your to-do list for more than two weeks, just ditch it!' Laura Berman Fortgang is an author, speaker, and career coach. She has appeared on TED, Fortune, Fast Company, The New York Times, CNN, and Oprah Winfrey, and was one of the original founders of the International Coach Federation. Laura joins Shaa to talk about her incredible coaching career across the past 27 years, the ingredients needed to be a life-changing coach, and the true meaning of reinvention and evolution. KEY TAKEAWAYS Life is like a magnet. Every single piece of rust and decay in your life is preventing the good stuff from being attracted to you Taking control of our destiny is all about choosing ourselves instead of waiting for others to choose us. We have the power to rise up, so why wait for someone else to give us the green light? The world today is constantly evolving, and can sometimes appear daunting, but with the advancing technology has come more opportunity for reinvention. When we evolve and change, we are growing closer to the version of ourselves that has always been there. Evolving is about peeling away layers to reveal what has always been there. BEST MOMENTS 'What is the rust on my magnet that I need to get rid of in order to attract the good stuff in life?' 'I was an actor who became a coach and it changed my life' 'I don't want to wait for someone to choose me. I want to choose myself' 'Reinvention is about getting closer to who you really are as you evolve' VALUABLE RESOURCES Building A Bigger Table Podcast - https://omny.fm/shows/building-a-bigger-table Laura Berman Fortgang - https://laurabermanfortgang.com MEET YOUR HOST Hi, I'm Shaa. In episode 57, Shaa give you some simple tips to start building a Small But Mighty Email List - and why social media might be our go to way of reaching people, but if you're not building your email list; you're leaving your business vulnerable and leaving money on the table. KEY TAKEAWAYS Social media matters, but we need to remember that we don't own these platforms, and that at any time we could have our access revoked. So it's wise to diversify our platforms and means of audience building. When people sign up for an email list, you have the opportunity of building a relationship with them. You see far higher levels of conversions to sales from an email list than any form of social media. Building a mighty list doesn't mean you need 50,000 people; far from it. Create engaging content, be you and be consistent! BEST MOMENTS 'Social media is rented ground. You do not own it' 'I don't want to be tied to social media all the time, but I do want to grow my audience' 'The only asset you have when growing your audience is your email list' VALUABLE RESOURCES Building A Bigger Table Podcast - https://omny.fm/shows/building-a-bigger-table To join Shaa's workshop on how to build a small but mighty list on Sunday, January 23rd at 20:00 GMT, register now at shaa.com/listworkshop MEET YOUR HOST Hi, I'm Shaa. This week, Shaa is joined by Chris Ducker, who is world renowned for running epic Masterminds. He runs multiple businesses including a Virtual Staff Finder agency in the Philippines. They are both big believers in doing less to get more … and yes, Shaa wrote aa book by that title too! In business and life, there is a value to be found in simplifying things so as to increase your time and earn more. KEY TAKEAWAYS Many worked harder because they were in lockdown, but they have failed to find the cutoff switch ever since. We don't need to work harder these days - we just need to work smarter. Prioritisation is key when it comes to managing time. We must make sure that important tasks are given their place on our hierarchy of time, and that distractions and irrelevancies are kept to a minimum. Teams are the key to scaling successfully. Leveraging tasks to those we trust, and taking on the tasks in which we excel, ensures that all time is spent most effectively, allowing our impact to be far greater. When we find our unique offer, it is far more effective to look for ways to strengthen it, rather than trying to add more onto our offering. BEST MOMENTS 'It's about doing less to achieve more' 'If you don't have the team, you can't scale' 'We need to make sure our priorities stay our priorities' Simplify your life to amplify your results' VALUABLE RESOURCES Building A Bigger Table Podcast - https://omny.fm/shows/building-a-bigger-table Chris Ducker - https://chrisducker.com MEET YOUR HOST Hi, I'm Shaa. This week, Shaa is joined by her ‘Pops' Sir Richard Needham who, as a Member Of Parliament from 1979 to 1997, served as Under-Secretary of State for Northern Ireland and as Minister of State for Trade. They discuss his recent memoir and his countless escapades ... Richard and Shaa met many years ago when they were both working alongside Sir James Dyson and became lifelong friends. Their relationship is testament to both of their firm beliefs that every success in life comes from the importance we play on relationships. Despite the fact that they were born into entirely opposite ends of the social economic spectrum; they've forged a deep respect for each other. Richard discusses his outlook on life, the origins of his entrepreneurial spirit, and the life lessons he has learned during an incredible career as one of the UK's most influential businessmen and politicians. KEY TAKEAWAYS In order to get the best out of the people in your business, you must put your trust in them and accept that they want responsibility. Money is a reward for what people do, but it shouldn't be used as an incentive. Incentives work far better if they make people feel like participants in the business. Politics is going through a dark moment now, where a lack of morals, ethics and reliability seem to be the norm. Politicians seem to think that the people work for them, when the reality is quite the opposite. Don't judge people by their past BEST MOMENTS 'Everything you say I endorse thoroughly' 'If you want to get the best out of everybody then you've got to trust them' ''It feels like we've gone back to the 18th century!' 'You actually changed my perception' VALUABLE RESOURCES One Man, Two Worlds: Memoir of a Businessman in Politics, Sir Richard Needham - https://www.amazon.co.uk/One-Man-Two-Worlds-Businessman/dp/1780733151/ref=asc_df_1780733151/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=499289607994&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=7722550494415712207&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9044955&hvtargid=pla-1275106120739&psc=1&th=1&psc=1 Building A Bigger Table Podcast - https://omny.fm/shows/building-a-bigger-table MEET YOUR HOST Hi, I'm Shaa. So many of us make New Year's resolutions with good intentions, but we very rarely keep to them, which can be disheartening and counter productive. Instead of helping you forge ahead, they just make you feel worse about yourself! In this episode, Shaa breaks down a better way of making New Years commitments - stacking the odds in your favour in order to actually achieve your goals in 2022... KEY TAKEAWAYS By the first week of February, over 80% of people have forsaken their New Year's resolutions, and by the end of March, almost all have been forgotten entirely. Instead of trying to take on too many things at once, why not set a single goal for each area of our lives, which makes things far more manageable. We need to make a commitment to 1-3 things that we want above all other things. Stretch goals are the best goals - make them just beyond your reach, but not so far you have no hope of ever reaching them. Accountability keeps us disciplined. Make sure you track your goals and surround yourself with people who will help you keep on track. Sometimes life seems to come at you all at once, but as Shaa shared in this week's episode, we can learn from the good and the bad. are no such things as failure. What doesn't kill you can only make you stronger. KEY TAKEAWAYS Even when times get tough, there are always moments of joy, beauty and opportunities for gratitude. We need to find those diamonds and keep focused on them, not just the challenging times. We should never make assumptions about other people. Lives lived behind closed doors might not be as rosy as you believe. Surrounding ourselves with strong, positive people empowers us when times get tough. When people fall, the quickest way to get up is by taking the hand of another. BEST MOMENTS ‘Press pause, take a step back and truly show up for them' ‘There are moments. There are people. Emma Campbell is an author, columnist, speaker and long term cancer survivor with a large and highly engaged social media following using the handle @limitless_em Emma joins Shaa to talk about her remarkable journey through adversity, and her fortified belief that we are all limitless, and despite the trials that life may throw at us, resilience will see us through … KEY TAKEAWAYS Our reaction to trauma can often affect us far more deeply than we think. The effects of Post Traumatic Growth can be similar to PTSD and can lead to devastating dissociative aftershocks. One of the subsequent effects of post-traumatic growth is to suddenly become far more active - looking for things to constantly engage the mind and body, for fear of stopping. The feeling of inadequacy can compound the more we take on. We can feel as though we are spread so thin that we let everyone down. BEST MOMENTS 'Many of us don't realise that we are living in survival mode' 'I've become someone who doesn't stop' 'I turned my fear of death into a love of life' 'Life takes on a different meaning and time takes on a different meaning' VALUABLE RESOURCES Building A Bigger Table Podcast - https://omny.fm/shows/building-a-bigger-table MEET YOUR HOST Hi, I'm Shaa. In this weeks episode, Shaa talks about how her Facebook and Instagram accounts got hacked ... and then deleted - and the ongoing saga she's having to recover them. As of this episode, there's been no resolution. It's the type of thing we feel happens to other people ... until it happens to us. Shaa shares the dangers that many of us face when building our businesses on rented ground - you don't own these platforms, you're just borrowing them. It's been a sharp lesson that these platforms are more Faceless than Facebook. No accountability, no customer service, no response. A wake up call for us all. KEY TAKEAWAYS Two factor authentication is no guarantee of safety. Despite having this supposedly strong security measure enabled, access was still gained by hackers. Despite what we may believe, we do not own our social media presence. It can be taken away. This becomes unfortunately clear when unauthorised access occurs. This experience has demonstrated that while social media can be useful in terms of reaching your audience, it should never be our only avenue of earning money. BEST MOMENTS 'I had apparently contravened their guidelines and my account had been removed' 'Forewarned is forearmed' 'They should be called Faceless rather than Facebook' VALUABLE RESOURCES Building A Bigger Table Podcast - https://omny.fm/shows/building-a-bigger-table MEET YOUR HOST Hi, I'm Shaa. We all work hard for our money, but is our money working hard for us? In this week's show, Shaa is joined by Vix Munro, an entrepreneur, wealth coach, optimist and crypto enthusiast, to discuss the crucial topic of investing and how to make sure you're getting the best returns on the money you've earned. KEY TAKEAWAYS It's vital for people to be investing in something. Inflation is the highest it's been for ten years, and if your moneyis simply sitting in a bank account, it will literally do nothing. Your return on your investment must be higher than the rate of inflation. This means you'll be offsetting the effects of inflation as well as growing your money. The major players in the crypto market are in this for the long run. However, guidance is advised as there is a surfeit of information that leads people down the wrong paths. Crypto is not a quick way to wealth, but it should be considered as part of a longer term investment strategy. Markets ebb and flow so fluctuations are to be expected. But if we are in this for the long term, as we should be, the general trend is that you are very likely to see a good return. BEST MOMENTS 'Over time it is completely feasible to get a return of 8% to 10% on your investment' 'Fundamentally, we all need to become far more financially literate' 'Theory is one thing, but practice is entirely different' 'Do not be blindsided by promises of overnight gajillionaire status' VALUABLE RESOURCES Building A Bigger Table Podcast - https://omny.fm/shows/building-a-bigger-table ABOUT THE GUEST Vix Munro is an entrepreneur, author, money enthusiast & eternal optimist. Many strive to grow their financial fortunes in the belief that money comes through wealth. But as Shaa discusses in this week's episode, there may be other forms of wealth that can provide far greater returns when it comes to happiness. KEY TAKEAWAYS Although wealth or income rose per person between 1947 and 1970, the average happiness reported did not rise, no matter how much more they earned. Money is an infinite resource. We can always make more if we put our minds to it. Time, however, is finite. We can never get a moment back, and so each one we spend is far more valuable than money could ever be. There are some things that are far more important than money. Once we have those needs are met, our increase in happiness diminishes. This is the law of diminishing returns. BEST MOMENTS 'Wealth is not about having a lot of money. It's about having a lot of options' 'I want you to really start to think about where you're investing your time' 'From here on out, my focus is being more time rich' VALUABLE RESOURCES Building A Bigger Table Podcast - https://omny.fm/shows/building-a-bigger-table MEET YOUR HOST Hi, I'm Shaa. Everyone is guilty of playing small from time to time, which holds us back from achieving the things we could be achieving. In this week's episode, Shaa talks about how fulfilment comes from stepping outside of our comfort zone and aiming for more. KEY TAKEAWAYS Knowing that you were made for more emanates from deep within our souls. It's the feeling we get when we realise that our true purpose is going unrealised. When we play small in life, and in business, we serve no one. The deeds we accomplish should always illuminate the way for others. We play small by holding ourselves back for self-sabotaging reasons. It's a form of procrastination in which we fail to climb higher through self-limiting beliefs. BEST MOMENTS 'You know you're made for more, but you're playing small' 'Your light should shine the way for me' 'You just know there's something outside of your reach. You can't quite touch it, but you know that this isn't it' VALUABLE RESOURCES Building A Bigger Table Podcast - https://omny.fm/shows/building-a-bigger-table MEET YOUR HOST Hi, I'm Shaa. In a highly self-reflective episode, Shaa talks about how to break down the mind-set monsters, how to tackle them head on, and why personal growth is about recognising the moments in which we hold ourselves back from achieving more. KEY TAKEAWAYS We can't place all the blame on others when we do not grow. Breaking down the mind-set monsters is about recognising that we hold ourselves back. The number one challenge we have when facing our upper limits is our own mind-set. The mind-set monsters are the triggers that place us into a state of mind that we're sometimes not conscious of, and which hold us back. Our businesses grow and develop when we spend time developing ourselves. Growth is about holding ourselves accountable, but also about recognising the wins when they take place. We are often scared to downsize and aim for a more niche market for fear of not serving everyone, and thereby lose clients and income. Some of this might be true in the short term, but focussing on what we are passionate about is the only way to truly grow your business. BEST MOMENTS 'You can't have business development without personal development' 'I need to get out of my own damn way' 'Doubling down on who you serve is the only way to grow your business' VALUABLE RESOURCES Building A Bigger Table Podcast - https://omny.fm/shows/building-a-bigger-table MEET YOUR HOST Hi, I'm Shaa. In this episode, Jeannette talks to Shaa Wasmund MBE who is the multi-award-winning entrepreneur behind several 7-figure businesses and the PR genius who spent 5 years growing his brand when he was still working from his kitchen table. At 21, she became the youngest licensed female boxing manager and worked with Chris Eubank. Shaa talks about how living in a hostel, then on a council estate, in a single-parent family shaped and inspired her. She shares numerous tips on shaping your life for success and happiness, a subject she has written about extensively. During the podcast, she explains how anyone can get a book published, including how to overcome writer´s block. They also discuss creating generational wealth, building a brand, and following your moral compass, no matter what. KEY TAKEAWAYS The modern habit of only sharing the photoshopped version of our lives is very harmful. Create generational wealth by being savvy about what you do with your money. There is no one size fits all answer. Everyone has a book in them, and it is far far far easier than you think to get it written. Books position you as an expert in your field, which enables you to raise your profile and prices. It is possible to build a business without social, which is good because some demographics are turning their back on social media. Be clear about what your values are and stick to them. Be respectful of other opinions but don't compromise yourself. If you don´t let people know what you stand for you are easily forgotten. Never give up. Do more of what you love to wake up a different person. Once you earn enough to be happy and comfortable, don´t keep putting yourself under pressure to accrue more money and possesions. BEST MOMENTS ‘Equality and equity are really important to me. ´ ‘I'm not perfect, but determination is something that I've got in droves.' ‘You can build a business however you want to.' ‘I've switched all of my Zoom calls to my phone. I am Zoomed out.' This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. At 21 she was the youngest and only licensed female boxing manager in the world working with Super Middleweight Champion, Chris Eubank. At 23, she set up her own PR agency and James Dyson (before he was a Sir) became her first client. Shaa helped him grow the Dyson brand from around his kitchen table (and he thanked her by writing her forward to her first book!) Shaa went on to create and sell multiple online businesses as well as running an investment fund for tech start-ups. In 2015 Shaa was awarded an MBE from The Queen for “Services to Business and Entrepreneurship”. It was one of the proudest moments in her life; not for the medal, but the fact she was able to take her adored Nan with her to the Palace with her. In the same year, Shaa quit her job and salary as CEO of her own successful business to pursue the path she had always wanted to follow. When it comes to time for guidance in life or business, we are often advised to seek the help of someone who's walked the path before us. But which guiding hand is right for us? In this episode, Shaa breaks down the differences between coaches, mentors and teachers, so as to help you make an informed decision about the guiding hand to suit you. KEY TAKEAWAYS It is important to distinguish between the different types of guidance, as all are really quite different. Without knowing what each terms means, we cannot obtain the correct guidance. Being a mentor is about having the experience in a certain area, that may prove useful to someone also embarking up that journey, without the structures of learning apparatus. A coach doesn't have to have industry experience or even knowledge relevant to your sector. Coaches are there to help their client find their path. Depending on what stage you are at in your business, and depending on the challenges ahead of you, you may need a mentor, teacher, coach or any combination of the three. BEST MOMENTS 'I needed someone to help me go faster' 'It is just not possible to be all of them at the same time' 'My goal is to help people get to where they need to get to in their businesses and their lives - faster!' Shaa talks to visionary, coach, catalyst, entrepreneur and activist, Joanna Martin, about her incredible achievements in business and the lessons learned along the way, as well as the ways in which you can grow your business without feeling the heavy weight of overwhelm, and how to do so sustainably! KEY TAKEAWAYS Having more women in positions of leadership, having parity of representation in every business space, is the key to unlocking social progression in the world. In the past two years, women's representation has shrunk. The focus has been upon building back business, instead of providing representation, when in reality, the focus should be on building back business with women at the forefront. Juggling successfully begins with having less balls in the air. Be as rigorous as possible about setting priorities, with personal health and needs up front. Look for what's essential, and structure accordingly. Removing yourself from the home so as to work can be beneficial, as everything in the home communicates the jobs that must be done - the ones left unfinished. Removing ourselves, temporarily, can provide us with the focus we need to get business tasks completed. BEST MOMENTS 'We can't pretend like we could two years ago, that it's going to be alright, because in a lot of places it isn't' 'We need to increase the impact of women in the world without burning out' 'The world needs women to step up more' 'You can have it all. In this highly personal episode, Shaa shares a valuable series of life and business lessons that she hopes will inspire you to get prepared to get ahead, so that when life throws you curveballs you can stop, press pause, and catch them. KEY TAKEAWAYS No one is free from challenge. Even at the top tiers of business and success, there will always be challenges to overcome. Never feel as though you are the only one. Despite the dark and negative influences in life, there are always things we must be grateful for. We must show gratitude for every positive. A big part of creating a business that can work without you is building a monthly recurring revenue stream that acts as your lifeblood. Make sure your finances are in order today. The best time to make sure we are better able to survive financially is right now. Shaa talks to Calum Simpson, an Empowered alumni. They discuss his personal journey, which has seen him overcome both physical and health challenges. How these have impacted him, and why resilience is such an essential factor in all areas of life. KEY TAKEAWAYS Just because others try to pigeonhole you, or think you incapable of achieving things, it should never limit your potential. When we persevere at something for a long time, we lose sight of the incremental progress we are making. Reflection is essential to recognise the breadth of our journey. Having a plan, a focus, a goal, is crucial in instilling a sense of resilience. If we face setbacks, we should focus on this future goal and remember our purpose in endeavour. Always embrace self-control, even in the moments where we feel ourselves losing grip on our emotions. In the end, the greatest damage we do by losing control is to ourselves. Shaa talks to Casey Zeman, Founder of Easy Webinar who has truly embraced the power of webinars, using technology and software to better connect with audiences around the world. In doing so, he has helped others to achieve a similarly deep connection with their own audiences. Casey discusses the importance of social change, how choosing to do better is a choice. And ways in which we can affect social change and use entrepreneurship for the benefit of all, and why we can more easily create a greater impact when we increase our income. KEY TAKEAWAYS To create social mobility, then we must facilitate and empower others to create businesses and create their own income. When we create an income for ourselves, we raise the level of impact that we can make. From there it is about choice - where to invest time, money and experience in order to help others grow. When we assimilate with others, we cannot expect them to simply assume our ways of thinking and living. Cultural exchange is about the free-flow of influences and ideas. We should never shut ourselves off when it comes to growth. We have the opportunities to learn and develop each day, and should always take advantage of that. With growth comes strength. Episode 41 - Discover your Passion and Purpose with Amy McLaren Welcome to Building a Bigger Table The podcast for misfits, mavericks and magic makers who want to create a profitable, sustainable business that makes as much impact as it does income. In This Episode: Welcome to episode 41 of the Building a Bigger Table Podcast where I'm joined by my close friend, entrepreneur, charity founder, Amy McLaren. Now you can add ‘author' to that list, because Amy's just released her book, ‘Passion to Purpose'. On this episode of the Building a Bigger Table podcast, we unpack what Amy's new book is all about and the impact it can have on your personal fulfilment. Because so many people don't understand the difference between their ‘passion' and their ‘purpose', let alone how to get clarity on what they are. We also touch on how self doubt can get in the way of us fulfilling our purpose, and how you can overcome that and the limitations others project on you to discover your true passion and achieve your purpose. Plus we talk about Amy's charity, Village Impact. Amy started Village Impact 10 years ago as a way of providing access to community-led education, leadership, and economic opportunities for thousands of children and youth in rural Kenya. They're now building their 15th school in Kenya!! So if you're feeling unsure about your direction, or want to understand how to discover your passion and purpose, this episode's for you. Key Takeaways: Your passion and your purpose are completely different things. Understanding your purpose helps you achieve personal fulfilment and bring more joy into your life! Your purpose can change as you move through life. You don't need to try and change the world in a day. Even the smallest of actions compound over time. Quotes: “When you're truly passionate about something and you're living there, you really are truly the best version of yourself.” “If you're passionate about what you're doing, it's not going to last.” “Passion is this engagement with what you love. It's something that you absolutely could do every day. It's like when you go to a dinner party and all you want to do is talk about it” Meet Your Host: Hi, I'm Shaa. I've been called a serial entrepreneur … but I've never been one for labels! Episode 40 - How to Use Business to Inspire the Next Generation with Cheryl Dodd Welcome to Building a Bigger Table The podcast for misfits, mavericks and magic makers who want to create a profitable, sustainable business that makes as much impact as it does income. In This Episode: Welcome to episode 40 of the Building a Bigger Table Podcast, where I'm joined by the lovely Cheryl Dodd. Cheryl has a dance school, a gymnastics club and has been in business for 22 years, but she's here to talk about her most recent passion project BizKidz which inspires children to set up their own businesses. I wanted to create this episode for all of the entrepreneurial, business-minded parents out there, because I think secretly, we all want our children to follow in our footsteps and become their own bosses. Whether they end up going down that road or not, Cheryl believes there are a ton of benefits in encouraging them to start a business in their childhood - ones that the traditional education system can't provide. In this episode, she tells us how BizKidz got started after her 11 year old daughter Izy decided to set up a slime shop, and then takes us through exactly what she teaches inside the BizKidz academy course. We also cover how you can inspire your children (or nieces, nephews … whoever!) and empower them to start making their own choices and doing things their way. If you have kids in your life, you're going to love this episode! Key Takeaways: It's about making your own choices Fills gaps of traditional curriculum Increases confidence and self belief Let them drive it Quotes: “What I've noticed on this entrepreneurial journey is that she is suddenly able to steer her future in just the way you're describing Shaa and and feel that sense of self worth.” “I do get the privilege of watching them go from being quite fearful or thinking that they can't do something to believing in themselves and then doing it and that's just amazing.” “She could see other people that were doing the thing that she wanted to do … so she had a really clear vision of having a warehouse with all of these slimes and creating her content, and the kind of content she wanted to create so she's created her vision in her mind.” Meet Your Host: Hi, I'm Shaa. I've been called a serial entrepreneur … but I've never been one for labels! Episode 39 - Busting The Overnight Success Myth with Maria Hatzistefanis Welcome to Building a Bigger Table The podcast for misfits, mavericks and magic makers who want to create a profitable, sustainable business that makes as much impact as it does income. In This Episode: Welcome to episode 39 of the Building a Bigger Table. I have a fantastic guest for you in the form of Maria Hatzistefanis a.k.a. Mrs Rodial. She is the owner/founder of Rodial and Nip+Fab, author of How to Be an Overnight Success, and has another book on the way titled How to Live Your Best Life. I was first introduced to Maria over on Clubhouse and was drawn to her because of the many similarities in our stories, particularly to do with how hard we've worked to get to where we are today. I really believe that right now many people aren't sharing the reality of what it's like to run a business - and I think if more people were more honest, it would help others be inspired to keep going when the going gets tough. In this episode, Maria tells us how her career got started and how being fired from her job in finance inspired her to start her own business. She lets us in on all of the obstacles she's experienced along the way - including almost having to declare bankruptcy 3 years ago. Today, that business has a turnover of £25m, stocked in 3000 stores worldwide, and has been endorsed by celebrities such as Kylie Jenner … so if anyone knows about the extreme ups and downs of being a business owner, it's Maria. We also talk about when you should trust your gut over your team, when (and when not!) to take risks, the importance of creating positive connections with others, and why pursuing success at all costs is a recipe for failure. Maria is a big believer that things happen at the right time, and that a delay doesn't have to equal a denial. If you're looking for motivation to keep going in your entrepreneurial journey, you're in for a treat with this one! Key Takeaways: Don't wait for permission People like to do business with people they like Sanity metrics over vanity metrics Don't let ego get in the way Quotes: “There wasn't a plan. I didn't know what I was doing, I was just cruising through life and jobs and seeing where one thing would take me, and you know just exploring everything that was available to me.” “It wasn't even about the money at the beginning [when we weren't] able to secure funding and I had to find a way to finance myself. It was also the fact I didn't get validation for my idea because getting that funding means that someone believes in you, to the point that. They're investing in your business.” “I have changed a lot as a business owner and as a leader. I used to micromanage everything at the beginning and get stressed about every single detail and that wasn't good for me or my team. And over the years I've mellowed down a lot and I'm more about leading the vision and letting everyone run their work, their department, their side of the business, and then we all get together.” Meet Your Host: Hi, I'm Shaa. Episode 38 - How to Generate More Leads Using Quizzes with Ryan Levesque Welcome to Building a Bigger Table The podcast for misfits, mavericks and magic makers who want to create a profitable, sustainable business that makes as much impact as it does income. In This Episode: Welcome to episode 38 where I'm joined by Ryan Levesque who I've invited to come and speak about quizzes. In my opinion, quizzes are the easiest, cheapest, and most fun way to build your audience - so if you're not using them yet, I highly recommend you start now. Whether you're just starting out, or if you've been going for a couple of years and have hit a plateau, quizzes are the number one way for you to get yourself and your business seen by more people. And not only that, they will get you seen by the right people - the ones who are ready, able and willing to buy from you. In this episode Ryan takes us through his background and why he has come to be obsessed with all things quiz. He reveals the 3 biggest benefits of them, the 2 different purposes they serve, as well as the optimum number of questions your quiz should have. We also share details of a super useful workshop that you don't want to miss! If you're not currently serving and selling to your ideal clients through quizzes, then this episode is for you! Key Takeaways: A cheap way to get leads Transferable across industries High conversion rate Can customise content for leads Quotes: “The psychology of quiz funnels really taps into the psychology of what we call self discovery. Which is you're helping people identify and learn something about themselves.” “See how you're able to really demonstrate your empathy and understanding of that person's situation, how you're demonstrating your desire to serve before you sell and how it changes the sales dynamic completely.” “We have access to 200 million data points. We've had 12,000 quizzes. Built on our platform. And with that information, we know a tremendous amount about what works and what doesn't work and how to separate successful quizzes from unsuccessful quizzes.” Meet Your Host: Hi, I'm Shaa. Episode 37 - Why Launching a Podcast is Easier Than You Think with Rob Moore Welcome to Building a Bigger Table The podcast for misfits, mavericks and magic makers who want to create a profitable, sustainable business that makes as much impact as it does income. In This Episode: In episode 37 of the Building a Bigger table Podcast, I'm joined by none other than Rob Moore. He's an entrepreneur, speaker, author, and hosts 2 podcasts, The Disruptive Entrepreneur and Money. He's here to prove to you that launching your own podcast is SO much simpler than you think. The truth is, I wouldn't have launched this podcast if it wasn't for Rob. It's something I'd thought about doing for many years, but I had reservations as like most people do. In this episode Rob unpacks the 3 most common objections and how we can overcome them. According to Rob, we are living in the age of the audio influencer. You may believe that video is where it's at, but that market is far more saturated than podcasts, so if you want to get in on the action, now is the perfect time! What's more, we cover how quickly you can realistically get started, how you can repurpose the content, how it's a great tool for networking, and how you can monetise it through sponsorships. Finally, Rob shares details of an incredible free teaching where he'll be showing you how to build a mini media empire with your podcast at the heart of it. If you've been dreaming of launching your own podcast, this episode will help you turn it into a reality! Key Takeaways: Audio influencing is huge The most affluent fans come from podcasts You can monetise pre launch Get it done in days Quotes: “There's only 250,000 active podcasts. There's tens of millions of active YouTube channels and Facebook pages. So it's actually a really growing media.” “We're actually reassigning a lot of our Facebook ad money into advertising on people's podcasts, because I think that we're dealing with trying to de-risk against, you know, Facebook, YouTube, Google dependency.” “This'll take us less than 30 minutes. And if we wanted to, we could have done a Facebook live at the same time. And we're also recording the video, which means we could put this out on video channels. So actually 30 minutes could be repurposed into five pieces of content or more. So bullshit you haven't got time to do 30 minutes. People scroll for more than 30 minutes every day on social.” Meet Your Host: Hi, I'm Shaa. I've been called a serial entrepreneur … but I've never been one for labels! Episode 36 - Life Lessons From My Nan Welcome to Building a Bigger Table The podcast for misfits, mavericks and magic makers who want to create a profitable, sustainable business that makes as much impact as it does income. In This Episode: Welcome to this super special episode of the Building a Bigger Table Podcast, where I'm interviewing my most favourite guest yet … my dear nan! At age 96, she's here to give us some life lessons that we can use in business and beyond. I think this is exactly what we all need right now, having just gone through the craziest year of our lifetimes - and my nan's wisdom really helps put things into perspective. She's lived through a World War, and in this episode we chat about what that was like - in particular as a woman. We talk about how technology has advanced, and how our diets have changed, as well as the things we value. Of course - there are benefits to both sides … but this really inspires us to take stock and be grateful for what we have. She gives us her advice for a life well-lived, reveals exactly what it's like to be my nan, and we end with a game of This or That. If you're after some uplifting, wholesome content to inspire and motivate you, you'll find it right here! Key Takeaways: The people that matter don't mind Family is everything Don't have regrets Make the best of everything Quotes: “I think we've got it so easy now with all this technology, you can't go wrong.” “You were pushed to the back, the women were. The men would expect you to have the meal on the table and you didn't have any argument about it. You had to have it there and they'd come home from work at lunchtime to have their meal too.” “The people that matter don't mind and the people that mind don't matter.” Meet Your Host: Hi, I'm Shaa. Episode 35 - A Simple Way To Bring More Bread To The Table Welcome to Building a Bigger Table The podcast for misfits, mavericks and magic makers who want to create a profitable, sustainable business that makes as much impact as it does income. In This Episode: Welcome to episode 35 of the Building a Bigger Table Podcast, where I am joined by my good friend and Cartel member, the lovely Rosie Whitelock. We're chatting about a super simple way you can drive more revenue into your business. Rosie is going to introduce us to her company, On Brand Planners, and talk us through how she can help us make some additional income. Now, as you know, I don't really agree with the phrase ‘passive income' because I think no matter what, there is always work to be done upfront. However, what Rosie's offering today can really be as simple as you coming up with the concept, and she'll take care of everything else! She's actually the woman behind my 6 Figure Club Planners that I gift to my members, and has worked with my friend Phil Graham on using planners to drive leads to his business, while at the same time making him some extra cash. In this episode, we're sharing the benefits of adding journals, planners or diaries to your business, the different ways in which you can do it, and exactly how to get started. Plus, I'll be revealing the one thing I wish I'd done differently, so you don't make the same mistake. Let's jump in! Key Takeaways: Get ahead of the game It's a way to engage with your audience Improves client retention It's a physical Pop Up Product Quotes: “It's like a physical pop up product instead of a digital pop-up product. So he's got the planner on the front end which drives traffic and ads to the planner, and then on the backend of that purchase he upsells his programs.” “In fact, I've been thinking of creating an Empowered planner and using an Empowered planner as my lead gen that then becomes a lead gen for the next cohort of our Empowered students. So we could start building up that list before Empowered even launches.” “This doesn't have to be anymore complicated than you - the person listening - coming up with the concept of what you want this planner journal to look like and do, getting it created and then having someone like Rosie actually ship it out for you.” Meet Your Host: Hi, I'm Shaa. I've been called a serial entrepreneur … but I've never been one for labels! Episode 34 - The Hard Times in Business Welcome to Building a Bigger Table The podcast for misfits, mavericks and magic makers who want to create a profitable, sustainable business that makes as much impact as it does income. In This Episode: Welcome to episode 34 of the Building a Bigger Table podcast where I'm talking about the hard times in business. This is off the back of a post I saw by the lovely Hannah Rose Cluley ... I loved it so much that it inspired me to dedicate an episode to it. The truth is, almost all of us have more than our fair share of hard times, but not all of us share them or talk about them. And I actually think that's doing people a disservice because we're painting a warped view of the reality of our business. I've hit 10k months, 100k months, 500k months, but I've also had some losses too. I'm not just talking about finances here either, I'm spilling details of how I ended up in court early on in my career, how I've been backstabbed after making the wrong hires, and how I've had high hopes for launches that were epic fails. I'm not holding back … I'm sharing everything with the hope that these stories will make your hard times easier to bear, and help you understand that these things happen to everyone. Let's face it … in entrepreneurship, there are dark days, but there are also wonderful days. And trust me, there have been times when I have woken up in a morning and asked myself if I really want to continue doing this… but the answer is always YES! So let's start being open about the highs and the lows, let's own our mistakes, and let's lighten the load for everyone else on the same journey as us, afterall, we're all in this together. Key Takeaways: Right products, right time, right audience Luck is where prep meets opportunity The good far outweighs the bad Hard times happen Quotes: “I have run online workshops or webinars with thousands of people on them. I've also run them with a handful of people on them when I was expecting hundreds instead... not everything I do works, not everything anyone does works.” “It's much better to lose 10k than it is to lose 100k… so if you're going to have to learn a lesson, learn at the beginning.” “There are many, many, many times that I wake up and I think, ‘can I even be bothered anymore?', especially, I've got to be honest with this online world. Sometimes this online world is just so toxic.[...] I've never found that in the offline world, I remember in the offline world, all the female founders used to support each other, we used to cheer each other on.” Meet Your Host: Hi, I'm Shaa. I've been called a serial entrepreneur … but I've never been one for labels! Episode 32 - Last Chance to Sign Up for Tribe Welcome to Building a Bigger Table The podcast for misfits, mavericks and magic makers who want to create a profitable, sustainable business that makes as much impact as it does income. In This Episode: Welcome to episode 32 - a super short and sweet instalment of the Building a Bigger Table Podcast. In this one, I'm reminding you that this is your last chance, for another 12 months, to sign up to Stu McLaren's incredible Tribe program. Why am I so keen to share this with you? Well, I've talked about how the number one thing if you want to build a bigger business and a bigger table is achieving financial empowerment. And monthly recurring revenue is 100% the best way for you to be able to do that. It takes away all of the ups and downs, the entrepreneurial feast and famine journey and gives you stability. And the number one way to achieve that is with memberships. Memberships have given me that stability throughout the whole of the pandemic. The 6 Figure Club covered all of my operational costs, so if everything else around me fell apart, I'd still be okay. And that is what I want for all of you. In this episode I'm going to be telling you all about Tribe, its benefits and bonuses - and why you should be signing up before you miss your chance for another year! Key Takeaways: Tribe doors are closing Memberships offer stability They increase profitability Incredible bonuses Quotes: “What you guys benefit through signing up for tribe through me. Is an epic £5000 of real value bonuses. I'm not talking about digital courses that were created five years ago.” “That's right. Stu and I are going to be doing a live workshop together, just us and you. This isn't part of the main tribe experience. It's an extra, it's a bonus.” “Through signing up with me, but you're going to get a lot more than that too. You're going to get help from Phillip Gibbs on affiliate, so helping you figure out how you can leverage other people's audiences in order to be able to get your first members in. You're going to get a masterclass in growing your first hundred members. And you're going to get tech support. Meet Your Host: Hi, I'm Shaa. Episode 33 - How to Use Business to Make a Stand Welcome to Building a Bigger Table The podcast for misfits, mavericks and magic makers who want to create a profitable, sustainable business that makes as much impact as it does income. In This Episode: Welcome to episode 32 of the Building a Bigger Table Podcast, and I'm not going to lie, I'm going to get a little bit serious. I'm talking about a decision I made recently in my business, and more generally how we can use our businesses to make a stand. I think this is an important conversation for us as business owners, but also as consumers. Recently I decided to stop using Basecamp as my project management software after five years. And this decision is not based on the fact that there might be better suited alternatives out there - it is 100% based on the way Basecamp as a company has been operating recently, and a statement they made that is not cohesive with my values. If you've followed me for any time, you know what those are. It's about leveling the playing field, creating real social mobility and equity for everybody, not just equality. I'm not recording this episode from the position of someone who gets it right all the time, but as someone who genuinely is trying to get it right as often as possible. And as somebody who, despite her failings will always, always stand up for the things that really matter when it comes to values or morals and ethics. When you work as hard as I do, and you do, I believe that the money we earn should be invested and spent with companies and people that support our own ethics, morals, and standards. So if you want to know how to use your business to make a stand, this episode is for you. Key Takeaways: Decide on your values You have to walk your talk Spending is supporting It's not about cancel culture Quotes: “There's this feeding frenzy that wants to take them down because somehow some people think that if you can take somebody else, who's bigger than you down, you will take their space. That is not true. And it's not fair. And I think we should be very careful of this cancel culture and [...] feeding that fire because it is not healthy.” “The only way you can use your business to make a stand is by actually doing it, is by saying I'm going to take my hard earned money and I'm going to go move it to a company whose ethics, morals, and standards are more aligned with my own.” “I believe the way we hold people accountable is by holding ourselves to a higher standard. And actually backing up what we say, walking our talk. Voting with our dollars or our pounds.” Meet Your Host: Hi, I'm Shaa. This episode is super practical, and in it I'm sharing all you need to know about setting up a membership. I'll be telling you exactly what you need to get started today, as well as the benefits it could bring to your business. I'll also be revealing exactly how I started the 6 Figure Club, as well as dispelling common myths and misconceptions about memberships. Plus, there will be details of a not-to-be-missed live training where you can learn how to set up a super successful membership site. Let's do it! Key Takeaways: You don't need a huge audience It's not a low ticket business model It's about creating community It brings monthly recurring revenue Quotes: “Month on month, your membership, your monthly recurring revenue covers all of your costs in your business. That is one massive headache gone, and it allows you to focus one on growing your business, on delivering the work that truly makes an impact.” “It is allowing people to come into your world in a really super easy way and get to know you get to know you. [...] To me a membership allows you to actually increase your conversions for your higher ticket offers.” “You just have to take the skills, knowledge, and expertise you've already got. And learn how to deliver it in a different way.” Meet Your Host: Hi, I'm Shaa. I've been called a serial entrepreneur … but I've never been one for labels! Episode 30 - Love to Launch Welcome to Building a Bigger Table The podcast for misfits, mavericks and magic makers who want to create a profitable, sustainable business that makes as much impact as it does income. In This Episode: Can you believe we're up to episode 30 of the Building a Bigger Table podcast? For this one, I'm going to be unpacking my most recent launch of the Empowered program, and I'm spilling everything. As you probably already know, Empowered is the program to get you making and taking 6 figures home. What's more, it's about building a business that's made to last. There are no overnight solutions, no magic pills, just tried-and-tested strategies and tactics to get you on the right track. In this must-listen episode, I'll be sharing the good points of our launch, the bad points and everything in between. And I'm going to tell you straight, it was a phenomenal launch and we far exceeded our goals to the degree that we had to close our doors two days early! That being said, there's still a ton of things that we could have done better. So I'm also going to be revealing what I wish I'd have done differently … because hindsight is a wonderful thing! If you love to launch, you're going to LOVE this episode. So don't wait a moment longer, grab a pen and paper and dive in! Key Takeaways: How to better prepare for pre-launch Always have a back-up Check everything multiple times Lead by example Quotes: “I'm literally the opposite of quick-fix. You can't go from zero to six figures in six weeks, unless you win the lottery. And me, well, I don't even play it. To suggest that you can go from zero or even £20K to six figures in six weeks is both preposterous and quite honestly dangerous, not just for the person hearing it, but also for the person running the program, because you're going to attract completely the wrong people.” “You can't just talk about it. You have to be about it. Our coaches represent some of the best business coaches in the UK. And are truly diverse in their gender, their age, their race, and their experience.” “So when you want to start growing your business through partnerships, look to those you've worked with first. Even if they have small audiences, it's still going to have a much bigger impact than someone simply sharing an affiliate link, which is not what I would recommend.” Meet Your Host: Hi, I'm Shaa. I've been called a serial entrepreneur … but I've never been one for labels! I've done SO many things in my career, including starting and scaling multiple 7 figure businesses, and am grateful for being recognised with some lovely awards - most proudly, an MBE from The Queen “for Services to Business and Entrepreneurship”. If you're looking to hit 6 figures but have hit a plateau, or just want to call in help from people who've been there and done it… this episode is for you! Key Takeaways: Handpicked group of legendary coaches Targeted trainings to guide you every step of the way Everything you need to hit 6 figures You'll get a bespoke model Quotes: “Nine out of 10 times when I work with people one-to-one or in small groups, the reason that they can't break through the plateau that they've hit, whether that's 2 or 3K months or 5K months, or even 10K months is because that business model needs a bit of a rejig.” “Just a 1% shift in your mindset could have a 25% uplift in your business. That for me is everything. Every single solitary time in my career when I've hit a plateau. The first thing that I need to work on is my mindset.” “And this isn't the woo woo variety. This is let's get real and practical. Let's unpack the things that we believe and how they're serving us. Or how they're being of disservice. And then let's put them back together in a way that is only beneficial to us.” Meet Your Host: Hi, I'm Shaa. I've been called a serial entrepreneur … but I've never been one for labels! Key Takeaways: How to TAKE £10K each month The impact of excess cash It all starts with mindset How to find the right model for you Quotes: “Quite often, a 1% shift in your mindset can actually impact your business tenfold. It is so significant. The way that our mindset is tied to our business is literally like yin and yang, they're inextricably tied together. Every time you hit a plateau in your business the first thing you need to do is uplevel your mindset.” “What I see nine out of 10 times with the clients that I work with is they've already got all the pieces of the jigsaw puzzle. They don't need to learn anything more. They don't need any more information. What they need is implementation.” “So, this is why I am obsessed with talking about and teaching you how to take home six figures, because that is the point at which everything changes. You have the money to invest in a different lifestyle. You have the money to invest in your business. You have the money to invest in pensions.” Meet Your Host: Hi, I'm Shaa. Episode 27 - How To Take Home 6 Figures {LIVE Workshop!} Welcome to Building a Bigger Table The podcast for misfits, mavericks and magic makers who want to create a profitable, sustainable business that makes as much impact as it does income. In This Episode: Welcome to episode 27 of the Building a Bigger Table Podcast, where I'm going to be talking about how you can not only make 6 figures, but how you can TAKE 6 figures home. I've been looking forward to creating this episode since before I even started the podcast, because as you know, I am on a mission to create financial empowerment for everyone. I didn't have the easiest start in life. I grew up absolutely poor and spent two years living in a hostel for homeless families before upgrading to a council estate. And let me tell you, I'm super proud of where I came from, but I always knew where I was going, too. I went to study at the London School of Economics at 18, and by 21 I was taking home 6 figures, and I have taken that much home every year since. I say this not to brag, but to show you that no matter where you are right now, £10k months are absolutely possible for you if you have the right mindset. In this podcast episode I'm revealing the 3 things you need to focus on in order to get there, and spilling details of a FREE live workshop I've got upcoming that you definitely don't want to miss if £10k months are on your wishlist. Let's jump in! Key Takeaways: Taking 6 figures is different to making 6 figures Generational wealth is the goal You'll have surplus cash to spend The #1 thing people get wrong Quotes: “I mean, let's be honest at 21. I was not a pop star. I was not an athlete. I was not a football player. So I didn't have the skillset to warrant taking home six figures, but I absolutely had the mindset.” “But I also understand the fundamentals of economics. I understand how businesses make money. I understand why we hit plateaus. And I also understand how to get you out of that situation. I understand how to help you break through that plateau. I also know from working with thousands of entrepreneurs and business owners, just like you and just like me that nine times out of 10, the key is changing your business model.” “We are ever-evolving human beings. This is a journey. Your business is a journey. Your business should always be evolving.” Meet Your Host: Hi, I'm Shaa. Episode 26 - The 1% Mindset Shift with Kim Calvert Welcome to Building a Bigger Table The podcast for misfits, mavericks and magic makers who want to create a profitable, sustainable business that makes as much impact as it does income. In This Episode: Welcome to episode 26 of the Building a Bigger Table Podcast where I'm joined by Kim Calvert, an expert in high performance, and CEO and Founder of Dynamite Lifestyle. As a success mentor and international speaker, Kim devotes her life to helping others live enriched and fulfilled lives by thinking into real results, one thought at a time. But it hasn't always been this way - so we begin by diving into Kim's total transformation from where she was to where she is today. Kim shares the moment she knew something had to change, when at 28, with a University degree and a full-time professional career, she realised she couldn't even afford dog food. Her dad's words (which I couldn't agree with more): “if you can see somebody else doing it, it means you can do it too” inspired her into action and having turned her own life around, she now helps others do the same. In this jam-packed episode, we dig deep into all things mindset, covering conditioning from our early childhood and our environment, to our subconscious programming and limiting beliefs about money. What's more, Kim reveals exactly why mindset is the number one thing you must work on if you want to be successful - because a 1% shift in your mindset can equal a 25% increase in your bottom line. Kim's a firm believer of the fact that change isn't always easy, but it's essential if you want to grow. If it's mindset motivation you're looking for - you'll find that (and more!) here. Key Takeaways: Mindset must come first Indecision is a decision in itself Change is inevitable, growth is a choice You can earn more and work less Quotes: “When we're born, when we're conceived, we are genetically programmed, but the biggest part of our conditioning, or thought or mindset, whatever you want to call it is environmental.” “Successful people, whether you define that in terms of their happiness, their financial success, their business success, they always focus on mindset first, because particularly when it comes to business, a 1% shift in your mindset could be a 25% shift in your bottom line.” “Every problem, every obstacle is an opportunity to learn, to grow, to stretch, to get to the next level.” Meet Your Host: Hi, I'm Shaa. Episode 25 - In Celebration Of My Sisters Welcome to Building a Bigger Table The podcast for misfits, mavericks and magic makers who want to create a profitable, sustainable business that makes as much impact as it does income. In This Episode: Welcome to this special episode of the Building a Bigger Table podcast where I want to celebrate my sisters - all the women who have handled homeschooling and raising children at the same time as running a business or holding down a career. I didn't manage to completely coordinate this with International Women's Day last week, but the truth is, this is relevant all year round. Especially right now in the UK, where we're coming out of our third and most difficult lockdown and women really have been the unsung heroes of homeschooling. Now, this is not to say that men don't partake in parenting duties too, or that there are not single dads out there - those guys deserve equal recognition. But the reality is that most of the time, childcare and running of the household falls on the woman and makes it hard for them to dedicate enough time to their work as they'd like. So this episode is not only a celebration of women, it's a call to action for men to notice, appreciate and support the women in their lives by sharing the load. But ultimately, it's a shout out to all the strong women out there. May we be them. May we raise them. May we raise them up. Key Takeaways: Share power and responsibility Women are just as driven as men Our children are our #1 priority Shout out for homeschooling heroes Quotes: “I'm really hopeful that there's some men listening to this too. And that maybe it will just make you think, hold up a second. How can I support my partner just a little bit more?” “There's a lot of men out there who don't really recognise what is going on in a woman's life, especially when she runs her own business, because they are [...] purely focused on their own career, their own trajectory, and what is immediately in front of them that day.” “Women are not flaky, people. Women are focused. We are driven. We are committed. But we also prioritize our families. We prioritize our children.” Meet Your Host: Hi, I'm Shaa. Episode 24 - How To Build A Small But Mighty List Welcome to Building a Bigger Table The podcast for misfits, mavericks and magic makers who want to create a profitable, sustainable business that makes as much impact as it does income. In This Episode: For episode 24 of the Building a Bigger Table podcast, I want to go right back to the basics and talk to the number one thing that I know is a concern for virtually every business and entrepreneur that I know… which is how do I grow my audience? Specifically, I'm talking about how to build your email list. It doesn't matter who you are ... it doesn't matter where you're at in this journey, whether you've got 5 people on your list, 500 or 5,000 - we all need to be growing our audience on a daily and weekly basis. But where do you start? There is so much focus right now on social media - and you know I'm a huge fan of Clubhouse and Instagram, and Facebook … I'm well aware of the important part social media can play in building your business. However, nothing converts to customers like an email list. And I do mean nothing. In this episode, I'm sharing my top 5 tips for building a small but mighty list. Because it really is much more about quality than it is quantity. If you want to build a list of buyers not browsers, this episode is for you. Key Takeaways: Why quality is more important than quantity Focus on delivering value It's about buyers not browsers 5 top tips to help you build your list Quotes: “Before you start putting any content out there to start capturing any email addresses that you actually have a good email service provider.” “Now you want this landing page to represent you and your business, not just a freebie, right? So when people land on that landing page, you want them to think, ‘Whoa, this looks and feels amazing.'” “The way I look at my email list: all I want to do is build an email list of people who, when I have the product that is right for them at the time in their business … they're going to say yes.” Meet Your Host: Hi, I'm Shaa. I've been called a serial entrepreneur … but I've never been one for labels! Episode 23 - How To Find The Right Business Model For You Welcome to Building a Bigger Table The podcast for misfits, mavericks and magic makers who want to create a profitable, sustainable business that makes as much impact as it does income. In This Episode: Welcome back to the Building a Bigger Table podcast, where for episode 23, I'm diving straight into how you can find the right business model for you. Yes, this is an out and out 100% business episode! I know that there are so many of you out there right now working really hard on your businesses, but without the right business model in place, so I thought it was really necessary to share my advice on this. The truth is there are so many options for online entrepreneurs … should you do online courses, 1:1 work, group coaching, memberships, masterminds or retreats? We see so many people having success in these areas that it can be tempting to try and recreate that success in the same way, but in order for your business to work for you, your model should be tailored to your needs. In this episode, I'm revealing the 3 things you need to consider in order to come up with your ideal business model, so that you can stop flip flopping and start scaling intentionally. Are you ready? Key Takeaways: Decide who you want to be Define how you want to show up Get clear on your ideal customer Find what works for you Quotes: “We think to ourselves, okay, I need to go and do that. What happens is we flip and we flop from one thing to the other thing, without being fully intentional about building our own business model.” “Who do you really want to be? This is important because it's going to dictate what type of business model you should be creating for you.” “All of you who are in the six figure club, you know what a membership is ... a membership for me is a place where you can help people at a lower price point than working with you in a group coaching program or in 1:1 work. And for me, it is the business equivalent of a gym.” Meet Your Host: Hi, I'm Shaa. I've been called a serial entrepreneur … but I've never been one for labels! Episode 22 - How To Come Up With A Popping Digital Product Idea Welcome to Building a Bigger Table The podcast for misfits, mavericks and magic makers who want to create a profitable, sustainable business that makes as much impact as it does income. In This Episode: In episode 22 I'm showing you step-by-step how to come up with a popping digital product idea. Learning how to make real money online is most business owners and entrepreneurs number one goal in 2021. And, my friends, I am here to help you solve that puzzle. Creating a digital product is the single best way to leverage your business, leverage your time and leverage your income. And if we're going to build a bigger table, we need to be doing all of those things. We don't need to be working longer hours, trading our time for money and being constantly exhausted. Digital products allow you to make passive income online in a way that frees you up to be less stressed, less overwhelmed, have more time for yourself and your family, and be more choosy with your 1:1 work. It's what everybody wants, but what often holds people back is nailing the concept in the first place. This episode will help you do just that. So no matter what stage you're at with your product - whether you're just beginning and don't know where to start, you've already got one on the shelf that needs dusting off a bit, or you started creating something but didn't quite finish … this episode will leave you with a simple 5 step process to get back on track today. Key Takeaways: 5 step process to a popping product idea It's the starter, not the main course Focus on the one thing you get asked most Test it on your target audience Quotes: “When you are on your discovery calls, or when you are working with you 1:1 clients, or when you're running workshops or events, or even group coaching programs, [...] what is the one thing that people keep coming back to you for?” “Once you've come up with your popping idea for a digital product, you actually have to get that idea out there and into the world. So you have to learn how to launch it.” “We want a lean mean fighting machine. We want your funnels to be working really hard for you. We want your digital products to be bringing you revenue in whilst you sleep. Yes, it is absolutely possible.” Meet Your Host: Hi, I'm Shaa. Episode 21 - How to Build A Rock Solid Mindset Welcome to Building a Bigger Table The podcast for misfits, mavericks and magic makers who want to create a profitable, sustainable business that makes as much impact as it does income. In This Episode: For episode 21 of the podcast, I'm taking things right back to basics when it comes to building a bigger table for ourselves, our families, our communities, (and of course our businesses!) and talking about one area we all need to master - and that is mindset. Now for those of you who have followed me for a while, you will know that I am definitely more practical than I am spiritual. I'm not anti ‘woo woo' by any means, but in terms of my teaching, mentoring and coaching, I like to work with physical tools and techniques that bring about tangible results. Regardless of how you work, I assure you that mindset is something you absolutely need to work on. I'm on my fifth seven-figure business, and yet still I have to work on my mindset constantly. It's easy to get wrapped up in the strategies and tactics you need to follow in order to grow your business, but without the right mindset, you'll struggle to sustain it. Your confidence and belief of what's possible have a massive impact on where your business is right now, and where it's going in the future too. So if you've been putting off working on your mindset until now, or want to know how to continuously improve it, this episode is for you! Key Takeaways: Your mindset is a business priority Remind yourself of your why Money is a magnifier Resilience over positivity Quotes: “When I work with clients, particularly on a one-to-one basis, I can see how incredibly talented people are. I can see how passionate they are about what they do and who they serve [...]. But nine out of 10 times, I can also see that they don't see just how brilliant they are.” “Over a period of time, those little nagging voices, society, comparisonitis, looking at other people and thinking that we should be doing more or there's something wrong with us… all of these things add up to wear away at our self-belief.” “To scale their businesses, to build a bigger table for themselves, their families and their businesses, it requires a shift in their mindset about what's possible.” Meet Your Host: Hi, I'm Shaa. Episode 20 - My Top 5 Book Recommendations And Why! Welcome to Building a Bigger Table The podcast for misfits, mavericks and magic makers who want to create a profitable, sustainable business that makes as much impact as it does income. In This Episode: Welcome to episode 20 of the Building a Bigger Table podcast. In this short and sweet solo episode, I'm revealing my top 5 book recommendations. This is something I get asked all the time, and so I thought it was about time I answered it on the podcast. One thing you may not know about me is that I love a good book. I'm actually a fairly accomplished author myself ... I'm a Sunday Times bestseller. I've written 4 no.1 bestselling books, including Stop Talking, Start Doing, which held the no.1 spot in WHSmith's business book charts for over a year. And my latest book, How to Fix Your Sh*t, went straight to top of the charts too. As much as I enjoy writing, I also love reading. And the reads that I'm sharing in this episode are ones that have had a huge impact on me, and the way I think about life and business. The books that have helped me get to where I am today. I'm revealing the book that changed my life, my go-to book for when I'm feeling stuck, the book I've gifted to other people most - and more. If you're anything like me, you'll come away from this with a small but mighty reading list ... and then go and apply everything you've learnt in your own business. Let's do it! Key Takeaways: The 5 books I keep coming back to The book that changed my life and business What to read when you're feeling stuck My go-to mantra Quotes: “It made me look at my life and the different things that had happened, the crossroads that I'd come to, the people I'd met and understand how all of those things had had an impact on where I am today.” “[This] is the book that you want to read when you're feeling stuck. When you're feeling like… ‘Oh, hold on a second. I know that there is something more, I know that I can do more. I just don't know what it is. I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed. I'm feeling a bit unsure. I've kind of lost my way.'” “When you're working with your hands rather than your brain, the ability to be able to see something through [...], wanting to do the work in a way that when you've done the work, you feel a sense of satisfaction. And I am a big believer that we should be putting effort into our work.” Meet Your Host: Hi, I'm Shaa. I've been called a serial entrepreneur … but I've never been one for labels! Episode 18 - You Can't Build A Full Time Business On A Part Time Team Welcome to Building a Bigger Table The podcast for misfits, mavericks and magic makers who want to create a profitable, sustainable business that makes as much impact as it does income. In This Episode: Welcome to episode 18 of the Building a Bigger Table podcast, where I'm sharing a view of mine that might be deemed as a bit controversial … but I really believe that you can't build a full time business on a part-time team. I have built many businesses in my career, and until now working in the online space, I have always required a full time team. Even now, my core team is full time and I outsource a small fraction of work to contractors. But I see so many people building their businesses completely through part time staff, and I want to give you an alternative. So tune in to hear my argument as to why full-time is the way to go. The truth is the more you give, the more you get … and when you bring on board an in-house team, and you've got everybody pulling in the same direction, you are going to get to where you want to be SO much faster. In this episode, I'll not only share my reasons for hiring this way, but will also offer up my top tips when it comes to choosing the right people, at the right time, and how to incentivise them once they're on board to make sure everyone's all in. Ready? Let's do this. Key Takeaways: It's best to hire slow and fire fast Why full time means full value My top tips to incentivise team How to hire the right person for the job Quotes: “When you have a team member who is 100% dedicated to you and your business and your goals. They will always be available doing sensible working hours for you.” “That should be your goal in the next 90 days, when you are doing your projections, when you are setting your KPIs, your key performance indicators, when you are setting your targets for how much income you want to be making and how you're going to improve your business model, you should be baking into that the hiring of a full-time person on your team.” “You want to build a bigger table and you want to build a bigger business. You can't build a bigger business. You can't build a full time business. On a part time team.” Meet Your Host: Hi, I'm Shaa. He's an ex British army soldier turned fitness and business coach - so he knows a lot about discipline and getting sh*t done! I'm so excited to bring this episode to you, because I think Jamie's been on such a journey of growth over the last few years of building his business - and I believe that many of you will be able to really relate to him. We start at the beginning and what he calls the best decision of his life, which was to join the army aged 17. That gave him a sense of purpose and motivation that he's now transferred to fitness, so he's got a ton of tips on how you can stay focused on your goals. Jay believes in impact over income, and serving over earning … trusting that if you're passionate about making a difference, the money will follow. We also discuss patience and playing the long game, along with how to create healthy habits, and set clear boundaries that will slowly but surely turn your dream a reality. If you want to learn how to master the mindset you need to succeed, cultivate rock-solid confidence and turn your vision into actionable steps, then this is a must-listen for you! Key Takeaways: Always focus on serving over earning Why confidence is essential for success Why trust is the most important part of teamwork Helpful habits and routines you can adopt today Quotes: “And I think it was a realisation that no one works harder than me and it's like, no, no one does work harder than you. And no one wants to.” “[In] 2016 [...] I was up at four or five work until like 11 o'clock at night and the things that I achieved in 2016, I ticked every box I'd ever wanted. And then had a massive meltdown afterwards, just completely burned out.” “I always say to people, you're rewarded in this world based on the value that you put into it. So very much now, things start to go really well when I'm not focused on me, I'm focused on others.” Meet Your Host: Hi, I'm Shaa. Episode 16 - How To Use Clubhouse To Build A Small But Mighty Audience Welcome to Building a Bigger Table The podcast for misfits, mavericks and magic makers who want to create a profitable, sustainable business that makes as much impact as it does income. In This Episode: In episode 16 of the Building a Bigger Table podcast, we're talking about the brand new app that's taken the social media world by storm… and that app is Clubhouse. Now, if you haven't heard about this already, and you're sat there thinking “What's she talking about?”, then - where have you been?! Clubhouse launched a few months ago and has been slowly growing in usage due to the fact that it's invite only, but more and more people are now becoming aware of it and wanting in on the action. It's an audio app where you can join rooms and start conversations, and offers a chance for you to not only speak about things you're passionate about but share your expertise. For that reason, I believe it's going to be one of the best ways to build your audience in 2021. I've started using (and earning through) Clubhouse already, and so I thought I'd get in early and create a podcast teaching you step-by-step how you can use it to build a small but mighty list. Listen up to find out how! Key Takeaways: It's a top way to build your list in 2021 You get to engage with brand new people It's an opportunity to give value It's a great way of reaching an international audience Quotes: “You are able to simply start rooms based on the topics that you are passionate about that you can teach and a core to your business.” “It's just, for me personally, it's harder normally to build up an audience outside of the country that I live in. That's pretty true for most people, right? So this is a real opportunity for you to build up an international audience.” “I think this platform is all about building a bigger table. I love the diversity. I love the democratization that this platform has given.” Meet Your Host: Hi, I'm Shaa. I've been called a serial entrepreneur … but I've never been one for labels! Episode 15 - Stop Flip Flopping And Start Focusing Welcome to Building a Bigger Table The podcast for misfits, mavericks and magic makers who want to create a profitable, sustainable business that makes as much impact as it does income. In This Episode: Welcome to the first Building a Bigger Table Podcast of 2021! Now, we're going to be doing things a little differently for this one, as instead of speaking about what we can add to your table, we're going to be focusing on what we can take away. It might sound counter-intuitive, but let me explain ... have you ever found yourself switching from one idea to the next so quickly that you gave yourself a headache? Ever launched something that didn't work out how you wanted it to and then just pushed it to one side before starting something else? I'm not asking this to shame you … believe me, I'm guilty too, because that's what we do as creative entrepreneurs. We're always onto the next big thing. But if you want to be successful in business, things have to change ... not only for the sake of your customers who have no idea what you stand for, but for the sake of your own sanity too. In this episode, I'm presenting my argument for why less is more, and providing you with the strategies and tactics you need to stop flip flopping and start focusing on what it is that's actually going to help you make more impact and income. Key Takeaways: Focus on one core proposition Quality over quantity, always Your messaging should be clear Serve more people with less dishes Quotes: “When you spread yourself too thin and you try to do all of the things for all of the people you end up being overwhelmed and exhausted, and your customers end up being confused.” “Businesses aren't restaurants that need to change the offering every single week with an added special offer of the day.” “I was a creative junkie. I just kept on wanting to do the next one. I convinced myself that the creation was the bit that I enjoyed the most. And once it was done, I needed to go and do the next one. I also convinced myself that this is what my audience needed.” Meet Your Host: Hi, I'm Shaa. I've been called a serial entrepreneur … but I've never been one for labels! If you didn't have a bank loan or a business loan from somewhere. Today - listen up people, you can get your pop-up product out there this afternoon.” “What happens is they move from a browser who's seen an ad, to a buyer who buys your pop-up product, because it's a super simple, easy to make decision. And then, because it's super simple for them to consume ... they go from being a browser, to a buyer, to a fan because you have now given them a quick win.” Meet Your Host: Hi, I'm Shaa. Episode 11 - Why You Should Only Ever Compete With Yourself Welcome to Building a Bigger Table The podcast for misfits, mavericks and magic makers who want to create a profitable, sustainable business that makes as much impact as it does income. In This Episode: Welcome back to the Building a Bigger Table Podcast, with me Shaa Wasmund MBE. Episode 11 is another solo, and for this one I'm disclosing all the reasons why you should only ever compete with yourself. Let's be honest, how many of us in our careers have looked at other people and thought to ourselves, ‘Why are they so much further ahead than I am?' and perhaps ‘... when they're not even as good as I am', though we might not want to own up to that part. So today I want to talk to you about why it is so important for your business growth, your personal growth and your sanity to only ever compete with yourself. The truth is, comparison and competition come up all the time in business, but it's important to understand that you are running your own race. Join me in this episode where I reveal the 3 crucial questions you should be asking yourself constantly, why failures are just as important as successes, and riff on the concept of coasting and why getting clear on where you're headed is absolutely essential. Key Takeaways: You're running your own race 3 crucial questions to constantly ask yourself Failures are as important as successes Stop comparing, start coasting Quotes: “I have been guilty of comparing my business in year three to somebody else's business in year 10. Well, duh, of course, they're going to be further ahead than you!” “I think running a business is like being Lewis Hamilton in your Formula One car, you should never put your foot all the way down, unless you are very clear about where you are headed.” “Like everything else in life, this is always about making sure that you are not just taking. If you want to truly collaborate with people, you have to always be thinking, first and foremost, what am I giving?' Meet Your Host: Hi, I'm Shaa. I've been called a serial entrepreneur … but I've never been one for labels! Episode 10 - How to Self Lead By Example with Todd Herman Welcome to Building a Bigger Table The podcast for misfits, mavericks and magic makers who want to create a profitable, sustainable business that makes as much impact as it does income. In This Episode: I'm very excited to welcome Todd Herman to the Building a Bigger Table Podcast for episode 10. He helps elite performers - whether they're entrepreneurs, entertainers, athletes or public figures - achieve their most ambitious goals by becoming more resilient, creative, confident and courageous. Originally from Alberta, Canada, Todd grew up on a farm as a shy, insecure and dyslexic young boy. It's safe to say he's not your typical high performance coach, but he's living proof that you can absolutely create your own destiny and achieve things that seem outside of the realm of possibility. That's exactly why he's so real, relatable, and damn good at what he does. In this episode we cover Todd's inspirational story from the low points to the high, and he shares what he's learnt along the way. He reveals what differentiates high performers from ordinary folk, and the level of commitment you have to put in if you want to truly make it at something, so if you've got big dreams - listen up! Then we dive deep into what Building a Bigger Table means on an individual level as opposed to systemic one. We address the risks we take and rewards we make as business owners or people in the public eye when we choose to speak up on controversial issues … and we debunk the performative allyship and call out culture we see today on social media. If you're striving to be a better leader from the inside out … then this episode's for you! Key Takeaways: The importance of self leadership The unspoken risk all entrepreneurs take The damage of digital trauma and trolling Why echo chambers are unproductive Quotes: ”It's the one thing that unfortunately, I think a lot of society has lost right now where people are out there judging so fast so quickly. [...] There's just a real lack of kindness and integrity.” “There is this performative allyship that you were just talking about. There's this performative nature that people are out puffing their chest on social media.” “A system is always built up by what individuals. Individuals make up a system. And so if you want to change a system of something that you perceive to be there, then the individuals have to change.” Meet Your Host: Hi, I'm Shaa. I've been called a serial entrepreneur … but I've never been one for labels! Episode 9 - How to Start Making, Then TAKING 6 Figures Home Welcome to Building a Bigger Table The podcast for misfits, mavericks and magic makers who want to create a profitable, sustainable business that makes as much impact as it does income. In This Episode: For episode 9 of the Building a Bigger Table Podcast, I'm talking about one of my favourite topics, which is how to start making 6 figures. And not only that, but how to actually start TAKING 6 figures home too. So, why the second part? Because making 6 figures will only get you so far. Once you hit that milestone (or perhaps if you have already), you'll realise that it still doesn't give you much wiggle room in terms of surplus cash once you've covered your outgoings. When you are actually able to take 6 figures home … you'll find yourself with additional funds to invest in other things. For me, this is not about being able to buy a Ferrari - if that's your jam, you do you. But personally, taking 6+ figures home is where I began to feel financially empowered. I believe that it's the tipping point where everything changes and you're able to take radical responsibility for the difference you're making to your own life, your family's lives and your communities. It's all about social mobility and generational wealth, people. Join me for this episode where I explain WHY taking 6 figures home is so important, and reveal the 6 questions you need to answer to get there in as little as 6 months. If you're ready to build a business that makes a difference - grab your notepad and press play right away! Key Takeaways: The importance of financial empowerment The effects of generational wealth Why everything changes at the 6 figure mark 6 questions to get you to 6 figures Quotes: “I think it's a privilege to do the work that I do. I think it's a privilege to have spent my entire career loving the work that I do. I think it's a privilege to make an effort for my people. So I'm happy to make the effort. I'm happy to do the work, but I also want to get paid and I want you to get paid too.” “The point is that when you have surplus income, you get to have more choices.” “We need to learn and understand in our bones that not only can we make six figures, but we can start to take six figures home.” Meet Your Host: Hi, I'm Shaa. I've been called a serial entrepreneur … but I've never been one for labels! I would solve one tiny problem in someone's life. I think there's going to be a big realization that a lot of people, millions and millions of people around the world have been sleepwalking. They've been sleepwalking in their careers.” “It was really looking at - ‘okay, how can I pull it back, simplify it, pair it back to what actually makes this business money and what I love doing?” Meet Your Host: Hi, I'm Shaa. Welcome to Building a Bigger Table The podcast for misfits, mavericks and magic makers who want to create a profitable, sustainable business that makes as much impact as it does income. In This Episode: Introducing the Building a Bigger Table Podcast! Listen up as I share with you my ‘why' behind this podcast and my reasons for launching it. I believe everyone should have a seat at the table, and if you agree with me, this show is going to be right up your street … I created this podcast to address one fundamental question: “How can we all build a bigger table? Not just for ourselves, but for everyone?” ... because the truth is, society doesn't stack the odds in everyone's favour. Whether it's your race, your age, your gender, or your background, real equity is a long way off for most of us, but I'm on a mission to change that. I might have money now, but that was not always the case, and if you tune in this episode, you'll hear the reason I decided to change not only my life, but the lives of many others too. On this show I'll be revealing exactly how I did that, and how you can as well. I won't be sharing dry business advice or vanilla interviews (yawn!) ... Instead, I'm going to be digging deep with guests who've made it for themselves from the ground up. If motivation's what you're searching for - look no further. Key Takeaways: Society doesn't stack the odds in everyone's favour If you want to change your life, you have to stand up and be counted There's no limit to how big the table can be This podcast has practical advice AND straight up motivation Quotes: “I realised that if I wanted to change my life, let alone the world, I had to stand up and be counted.” “I had a choice – believe the statistics or screw the statistics. I chose the latter, and you can too.” “Whether it's your race, your age, your gender, or your background, real equity is a long way off for most of us, but I'm on a mission to change that.” Meet Your Host: Hi, I'm Shaa. I've been called a serial entrepreneur … but I've never been one for labels! In This Episode: In this episode of the Building a Bigger Table Podcast, I'm diving deep into one of the things that's going to STOP you from building a bigger table ... for you, your business, your family, and your community. This is the foundation for all of your growth. If you tune into this episode, you'll hear the key mistakes that people make in this area and how you can avoid them. I'll also break it down to the 3 stages your business might be at and how you should be hiring according to that, so you can pinpoint exactly who your next hire should be … … so whether you've just started scaling, have found yourself at a plateau, or are ready to take an already high functioning team to the next level - this episode has everything you need to know when it comes to building out your dream team! Key Takeaways: You can't build a bigger table all by yourself Why SOPs will save you time, energy and money Why paying for people more pays off If you can't acquire the skills, hire the skills Quotes: “When you are constantly spending your time jumping from one thing to another thing, because you're always being pulled in to fight the fires ... guess what? The whole building will soon be ablaze and burned into the ground because you are one person.” “Remember, you can only build a bigger table in your business when you have the right people sitting at yours.” “When you don't have the capacity, the time, the leverage or the financial resources to allow people to learn in your business, you need to start hiring from experience and for experience … you need to hire for the role that exists right now, not the role that you think people can grow into.” Meet Your Host: Hi, I'm Shaa. In This Episode: Welcome back, folks. In episode 5 of the Building a Bigger Table Podcast I want to talk to you about how to juggle rather than struggle. And let's face it, as entrepreneurs, juggling is in our DNA and the truth is it's something we have to do … … but I'm a firm believer that struggling is a choice. I'd even go so far as to say that some of us wear it as a badge of honour to prove how hard working we are. This episode is here to disprove the need for that. I want to help all of you who are feeling overwhelmed, frustrated, exhausted, and pulled between personal and professional commitments - and show you that there really is a better way. Tune in to hear the story of my struggle (something I don't share often) … along with handy habits you can start applying today that have helped me take control of my life. I'm diving deep into single parenthood, why saying no to one thing means saying yes to another, and how sometimes finding a blend is better than balance. If you're trying to be everything to everyone, and do all of the things all of the time … this episode is for you. Key Takeaways: The juggle is real, but the struggle is optional Helpful habits you can adopt today Blend is more realistic than balance The more you outsource, the more time you get back Quotes: “If we truly want to learn how to juggle and not struggle, guess what? The first thing we need to do is get out of our own way.” “If you were doing a workshop, or a webinar, or a Facebook live and people were counting on you - you'd show up. You wouldn't move it. So why move your time with yourself or your family or your friends?” “Remember, every time you say no, you get to say yes to something that you really want to do.” Meet Your Host: Hi, I'm Shaa. Welcome to Building a Bigger Table… The podcast for misfits, mavericks and magic makers who want to create a profitable, sustainable business that makes as much impact as it does income. In This Episode: Welcome to this episode of the Building a Bigger Table Podcast where I share a little bit about myself and this podcast's reason for being. Truthfully, you could be mistaken for thinking I've had a very lucky life … numerous business awards, best-selling books and even an MBE from the Queen herself. But that would only tell you half the story. In this episode, I tell the other half. The half that fuels my mission every single day … that pushed me to stand up for myself, and now to stand up for others. What's more, I take you through my career history which resembles a series of amazing people believing in and taking a chance on me. That's precisely why it's now my goal here to open up a whole new world of possibilities for everyone, regardless of race, gender or age. It's not just about equality, it's about equity. Key Takeaways: The other half of my story isn't glamorous The moment I decided to never be reliant on anyone else The power of having someone in your corner I know what it's like to be a misfit Quotes: “I had no seat at the table. So my only choice was to go out and create my own.” “The welfare state kept a roof over my head and food in my stomach, which is why I will never forget my roots. But it was my mum and my Nan who kept hope in my heart.” “ It's not just about equality, it's about equity. It's about making sure everyone gets a seat.” Meet Your Host: Hi, I'm Shaa. [3:35] Who was Spectacular Smith before Pretty Ricky? Spectacular was a child going to school, a class clown He was in a dance group “Baby Forever Nasty” At a young age, he always enjoyed dancing and performing [5:29] Did you want to be a celebrity or be in the spotlight? Spectacular doesn't even think about being a celebrity and is less focused on the popularity but more focused on the RESULT [7:50] Spectacular had to be GREAT at a young age His father Joe Smith instilled a greatness mindset and pushed them to practice and perfect their craft at a young age The focus was performing at a high level, so they could receive more shows Joe Smith had a system where he wouldn't charge for shows, but would ask people for a favor / trade Pretty Ricky's audience was built from shows and building their brand Joe Smith values - Integrity, Loyalty and Trust [11:04] Early Mentors He learned a lot from his father, Joe but he also spent 12 years in prison Spectacular's mother showed him the work ethic and strong foundation to achieve His mother worked hard in the beginning and passed the role to his father and his father Joe carried them across the finish line [14:54] Social media and showcasing the END RESULT Spectacular believes it's celebrity culture that is causing the problem of people wanting to achieve results without working for it People only see the fame and fortune, not the struggle behind it Celebrities don't show the process, the late nights, the losses, the pivots etc Shiny object syndrome [17:50] Black Boss Valuable Minute Kevin shares how you can become a member of the Black Boss Club AND also how you can save 10% off your first purchase at the Black Boss Store. [19:53] As an inspiration, what can you do to share the journey? Spectacular knows he needs to be better at documenting the struggle He knows he needs to carve out time to show the struggle, but knows he needs to work on it Spec plans to have a camera man film his life, so they can show the realness behind the greatness Influencers can record a quick behind the scenes and upload it immediately [26:29] When Spec reached his peak of success - was it what he expected? People often forget that the music business is a business FIRST 90 % Business 10 % Talent Pretty Ricky reached all of their goals but they ended up with no money because his father wasn't aware of the “contract” aspect of the business You have to reach out and ask for help when you enter a situation you aren't experienced in Everything was there - girls, money, tours, and success [27:49] Independent vs. Working with a Label If you have time and resources to build a team, then you can do it independently If you don't, why not partner up with a label to get the most output [30:27] Pivoting to Spectacular's own business Everything from day 1 was a family business Spec got kicked out of the house and was forced to create his own entity From that day forward, he never looked back and created his own business Spectacular loved social media, and realized he could make a business out of it He started with parody accounts then saw how he could build followings to make money Adwizar was created [33:57] Adwizar Started his business by helping people in the music industry monetize their following Spectacular then realized celebrities are ungrateful, he would grow their page and then they would jump ship to other companies Switched the Adwizar narrative from monetizing to follower growth Facebook saw how much money Adwizar was making and they wanted a cut so he switched to service based businesses [39:48] Client Base Spectacular was thinking about how he can make the same amount of money, with the same size staff He started partnering with companies that fit his scalable model Adwizar made a company $175,000 and only got $5,000 out of the deal - so Spectacular realized he needed to pivot Now, their company provides a 3-month contract and offers an opt-in for a partnership to split the monetization or they can transition to the coaching model which trains a companies staff member to take over the social media process [48:40] What companies are scalable? If they have a high ROI with their paid ads Ecommerce brands and Online Courses do the best [51:07] Partnering with Celebrities and Influencers Spectacular sees the financial gain but doesn't like working with their egos When you're in the music space, all you see is music Spectacular created Social Seed, along with 3 Black Executives, where the average person can invest in their influencer Adwizar Technologies has a program where they match each influencer with a brand [57:30] 3 tips to creating a successful business Start with the culture - surround yourself with people who are tapped into the culture Create a mastermind for yourself Find a mentor [59:25] Online Business School Spectacular joined several business programs to learn the tools to implement in his business Entrepreneur Organization - the best decision he ever made in business, was to join this organization Everything that Spectacular has learned is from courses, books and mentorship [1:04:14] Spectacular's Closing Message to All Black Bosses The business bible is Think and Grow Rich Spectacular makes his son read all mindset books - because the only think stoping you in this is you You can't put limitations on what you can do in life [1:10:35] Kevin asks Spectacular 3 piercing questions What is your definition of a Black Boss? Wild ones, today's guest is a fierce one. I met Shaa at a conference last year and was immediately drawn to her spunky badassness which you will feel almost immediately once you press play on this chat. We talk about friendships and more importantly sisterhood, how your support network is your MOST IMPORTANT network, being an alpha woman in life, business and relationships, and we get super real about racial and gender systems and privilege. This woman is straight to the point, no fluff, no woo. Enjoy the energy! About Shaa Wasmund: Shaa Wasmund MBE is one of Britain's most highly regarded female entrepreneurs and was named in early 2016 by The Sunday Times as one of the Top 20 Most Influential Entrepreneurs in the UK. She is an international best selling author and award winning businesswoman, who the Institute of Directors voted one of the most connected women in Britain. Her first book, Stop Talking, Start Doing was the #1 Best Selling Business Book in the UK for 14 months in a row, breaking all records. Shaa’s experience is incredibly diverse. Whilst still at University, she became the world’s only licensed female boxing promoter, working alongside Don King to put on 22 World Title fights. Shaa then started working with Sir James Dyson from around his kitchen table and helped build Dyson into one of the most recognised brand names in the world. In 2015 she received an MBE (Member of The British Empire) Award from the Queen for her “services to business and entrepreneurship”. Today, in addition to running her own successful online educational businesses (shaa.com), she is also an acclaimed international speaker, having spoken alongside the likes of Gary Vaynerchuk and Tim Ferris. And in 2016, The Guardian newspaper named Shaa’s events as one of the Top 10 Events to attend as a small business owner. In this episode, Shaa shares: 1. Gender roles and equality in society today 2. Alpha women as an intimidation to men 3. The massive importance of having a support network
