Britta shares her journey from designing a podcast to attract ideal clients to the amazing results she achieved at a national conference. Here are some key takeaways from our discussion: The myth of oversaturation in podcasting: Britta challenges this idea, emphasizing the value of consistent lead sources and the importance of not being afraid to make mistakes and iterate in public.In-house production vs. outsourcing: Britta provides valuable insights for mid-sized companies, suggesting that they start by bootstrapping and then bring in an agency as they prove the concept and generate revenue.Leveraging technology for efficiency: Britta's use of tools like Calendly, Zapier, and Buzzsprout showcases the power of streamlining workflows to drive successful podcast production.Tune in to the episode for more wisdom from Britta and gain valuable insights for your own podcasting journey. Podcaster Collin Mitchell host of https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sales-transformation/id1533493437 (Sales Transformation) Tell us about your journey in podcasting. I went into the studio and I had a great time and at the end I was like, I think I want to start a podcast and my co-founder said, yeah I can help you with that. Tell us about some podcast rain that's happened to you because of your show. I didn't expect it to impact as many people as it has and get as much positive feedback, and people reach out. It feels like I have fans. Have you got a client that says “wait a minute that's a lot of content” We are not saying that you got to record it. There's ways to be efficient on your time and sometimes it's just a little bit more. We need to look at the whole picture of what is happening currently that is being created that are assets that we could use. How do you help your clients to get better at the craft of podcasting? You got to be honest. There's people that you know are just not built for podcasting. Coaching and giving honest feedback. Why is content important? Content is a way to allow the people in the marketplace to connect with you. Podcaster Carl Robinson host of https://voicetechpodcast.com/ (Voice Tech Podcast) Tell us about your journey in podcasting. I started podcasting when I was doing an internship for this Master's degree, I was doing it in France. Studying machine learning A.I. Tell us about some podcast rain that's happened to you because of your show. One of the surprising things for me was interviewing two billionaires in one day. How has your podcast helped you to deepen relationships? It made me a speaker, it made me more confident, it led to structure my thoughts, it made me more empathetic as well. Communication skills and the ability to relate to people and continue a conversation. Talk about the startup and how podcasting led to that. I was doing the voice tech podcast and after I finished my internship I kept it going and it grew so doing really well. Because my podcast is all about voice technology, I thought this is really coming along. I looked online and there was really no automated creating a podcast and so that's really where the idea of Rumble Studio came along. Have you leveraged your podcast to build and grow your business? I've got a lot of connections in the voice challenging world thanks to me having interviewed a lot of them or worked with them. Podcaster Chrystal Robinson host of https://www.koloraddikt.com/lifeinkolor (Koloraddikt Podcast) Tell us a little bit more about your show So I do live shows. I've been doing it for three years, it's on Instagram and so we go live every single week Wednesdays at 3:30 p.m. eastern time. We accept guests bi-weekly. What's your take on podcasting Listening or audio platforms, but I think with the way that, you know, communication is spreading these days everyone calls everything a podcast. For me, a podcast is typically interviews or explorations of thought. Why did you start this IG live in the first place, and how has it impacted your brand and your business since you started? I originally started going live. It was a part of a challenge and I was like, oh, this isn't bad and I don't have to do this huge production. It was a path of least resistance and an option to get my message across in a way that doesn't require a lot like when it's live. How do you grow your audience? How I grow my audience secretly is my guests. Our guest is usually how we grow as well as engagement. Thing(s) that happened to you because of your podcast Huge door opening for networks and connections. The world seems smaller through mutual interest and passion. How do you grow your audience? Very slowly through consistency. Doing videos definitely helps, and use it on social media because if people see the face of the person whose voice they're gonna hear it makes it personalized. Have you done any work with respect to the types of questions you ask or topics you cover? Throwdown Podcaster Mike Malatesta host of How'd It Happen Tell us about your podcast What I'm trying to do is dig really deep into their story of success back to when it happened. My goal with the podcast is to use those success stories to inspire, activate and maximize the greatness in everyone that is listening. What Podcast Rain has happened because of your podcast shows? I have become more curious, more intelligent and more inspired as a result of getting to explore this story. I get an opportunity to talk with amazing people. When people say “I listened to your episode with Elzie and it made a difference in my life” What things have you done over the years to get better at the craft of podcasting? I spend time listening to another podcaster that I admire. When I do my transcription, I look to see how much time I spent talking vs how much time the guest spent talking because I want to maintain an 80/20 relationship. I feel like my job is to ask questions rather than listen to the answers so I can intelligently walk my way through the flow. How do you grow your audience? The first couple of years I didn't spend much attention in growing my audience. I just really intend to try to get as good as I can get and that was the most important thing for me at that time. I have an email list and I transform it into email blog I work with a social media expert who helps me with everything. I say a sincere thank you to the people who are listening and I ask them for their support. How do you get value from your show? The entire purpose of the show is to help change the narrative on entrepreneurs being the villains, which is a cultural problem we have in America. What Podcast Rain has happened because of your podcast shows? I had someone hop on my show and I wasn't able to get her bio ahead of time and I came to find out that she runs a company that does $500 million dollars a month in sales and she fixes a lot of things in my business. What things have you done over the years to get better at the craft of podcasting? If you want to be a better interviewer as a podcaster there are two things that you should do, one is you should be ignorant and the other one is you should be curious. Pick up as much as you can from them. When you put those things together with ignorance and curiosity then you can really dive deep into other people's expertise and stories. Heather Price and Sabine Robinson hosts of Activity Coaching Conversations Tell us about your podcast It basically provides strategies, tips and techniques for sales coaches. It's an educational and kind of “train the trainer” type of podcast where we are coaching other coaches. It's a topic that we both love so much. What Podcast Rain has happened because of your podcast shows? The podcast rain has been crazy. I really had no idea that the return would be phenomenal. We tripled the number of clinic attendees this year over last year. Somebody came up to me and said Are you Sabine? And I said why? And she said I recognized your voice. She has been listening to the podcast and that cracked me up. What things have you done over the years to get better at the craft of podcasting? I think philosophically, preparation is really important to us. It's always been important to me. I`ve always had a philosophy that for every hour of work you do typically there`s an hour of preparation that goes into that. We would never show up not having talked about it ahead of time. I think that it`s a special partnership too. How important is the growth of your audience? I would say because it was the right audience and they find value in it, it's spread like wildfire within that audience and we`re getting the results that we want. I think we`re the only podcast of our kind out there so for this particular narrow audience I think it's underserved like there's not a lot of resources for this group so they're loving it. How do you get value from your show? It makes us organize and it pushes us out of our comfort zone too. We got phone calls and some additional work from people. Podcaster: Chenese Lewis, The https://cheneselewisshow.com/ (Chenese Lewis Show) Tell us about your podcast It's actually the first podcast created for the plus size industry. I started my podcast in 2008 when podcasting wasn't even popular. The reason I started my podcast was because I was in classes to be a television host and the teacher told me to create a podcast to practice my interviewing skills. What podcast rain has happened because of your podcast show? My podcast has helped in being part of my brand. It has helped me get speaking engagements and be an expert in my industry. It has helped me get opportunities in hosting live events. It's been a great addition to my brain. What are some things you've done over the years to get better at your craft? Practice makes perfect. You have to listen back to the interviews and critique yourself so you know what to improve. Just perfecting your craft through practice is helpful. How do you grow your audience as a podcaster? I think the number one answer would be social media. When I started it was pre-social media so I just partnered with a magazine to promote my podcast. I always have my guests promote my show. When I do interviews, like press interviews, I mention my podcast. How do you get value from your show? I get value towards my brand, just expanding my brand in different ways. It has established me as a host and it has established me as a whole standard media personality. What are some tips to make it easy for your guests to share your podcast? I tag them on all social media platforms and sometimes people will put it on their blog or websites. We interview people on how they got started, what mistakes did they make. What Podcast Rain has happened for you? Having a podcast is a stronger way to network. Doors open a little easier. The podcast helps build relationships with channel partners. What is the top way you have grown as a podcaster? I would say production value. It really comes down to finding a good team. How do you grow your audience as a podcaster? I don't care. I provide good value and if the audience keeps increasing - great. It's about building relationships and networking, to get through those doors. What are ways you get value from your show? I try to deal with the tough questions and not just dwell on successes. There's a painful part of everybody's journey of building a business. How do you get better as a podcaster? I try to vet people a little better now to get authentic, good quality people on the show. Podcaster: Chris Michael Harris, Host of StartupU Podcast What podcast rain has happened for you? I've made hundreds of thousands of dollars through the relationships I've built with the podcast. It's been my networking power tool. I've got invaluable relationships that I leverage all the time, and they're symbiotic relationships created just from that medium alone. How do you get better as a podcaster? You've got to find a few people you identify with, that you like their style, and immerse yourself in the podcasting space. Then you've just got to practice and you've got to push through. When you're just yourself and you show up as you are, and you talk the way you do in the real world, that really resonates with a lot of people. Analyze your experience when you do guesting. How do you grow an audience? You need to figure out, what do I actually need to make my business make sense. How am I using my podcast? I prefer to put most of my effort into search platforms first, and then I nurture my audience with my podcast. You need to figure out what's going to draw people in, how are people going to find me, and then how am I going to continue to nurture those people to develop those touch points I need to eventually sell them a product. What are ways you get value from your podcast? I learn like crazy. I like to make sure I'm using touch points throughout the process to nurture people. Podcaster: Jody Maberry, Host of The Jody Maberry Show Tell us about your podcast The main one is The Jody Maberry Show. Another one is from Creating Disney Magic with Lee Cockerel who was the Executive Vice President of Walt Disney for 10 years. I have 7 public shows right now which are all active. What Podcast Rain has happened because of your podcast shows? I started this show for park rangers and then within a year, I teamed up with the Executive Vice President of Walt Disney. I had him as a guest on the park leader show, had no idea his sister-in-law had been a park ranger for 30 years and we just hit it off and decided to do a show together. Having been a former park ranger, I got the opportunity in 2019 to speak to all of the state park directors in the United States. They invited me to come to Arkansas and speak to them so that, as a former park ranger, that was one of the biggest honors I've had and it all came from podcasting. What things have you done over the years to get better at the craft of podcasting? If I take that out and look at what else I have done to help me become a better podcaster, part of it has been talking with other podcasters. Just hearing how other people interview their guests. Sometimes I just listen to how they ask questions or talk directly to listeners, and talk to guests. Just finding what other people do and say and how does that apply to me. Maybe the answer is it doesn't, but can I learn anything from it? How do you grow your audience? Probably the best that I have experienced is to do what we're doing right now. If you're a guest on someone else's show, then the audience can listen to your podcasts or they wouldn't hear you. Find a place where people are talking about the topics your show is about and, if it's relevant, it gives you a chance to mention your podcast. How do you get value from your show? I have found the best thing I've gotten from my show is the challenge of showing up every week and having something which has helped me grow so much. Now I understand my thinking a little more clearly and I can shape it out a little more. I've used podcast episodes to branch out into presentations I would give on stage or blog posts. Podcaster: Dr. Troy Hall, Professional Podcast Guest Tell us about your podcast guesting experience What I realized is that I could actually expand my network by being a podcast guest. I know the energy that needs to be brought to the program. I have a message to tell that has to do with not just what I do, but with helping others. What the podcast host gets is someone who's willing to participate and has interesting stories to tell. What podcast rain has happened because of your guesting experience? As the message comes out, people get a sense of who I am. They understand that I am an individual who works for the benefit of other people. My goal is to motivate and influence others to be successful. I've done international events. I do workshops and some of these workshops are for free. What ways are you getting better as a guest? My message is more succinct today than before. It's really refining the message and making sure that the message that I'm going to deliver is one that is succinct. My goal is to make sure I'm in tune with the host. How are you getting value from guesting on podcasts? It's really the connection between the podcaster and the audience. It's making sure that you are tagging information and you're providing some sort of information. Podcaster: David Perez, Host of Audience Coach What is something that has happened to you because of your show? I've been able to connect with a lot of awesome people that I didn't know were out there. It made me discover a lot of talent and potential. It has blown my mind with awesome connections and the people I interview. I get to learn new perspectives on things. I've been able to interview people that I thought were beyond my reach. What are some ways you've gotten better over the years you've been podcasting? I think in terms of how I deliver my message. How I'm able to interact and speak with other people through a microphone. Embracing perfection is the core thing. It's okay to make mistakes. How do you grow your audience? Get yourself out of the formula and pull yourself apart from everything you create and devise. Your show has to be about your audience. Do your research and make a list of the things that they need or want to know. Be consistent, pre-plan your content and release your episode consistently. How do I get value from your show? The ability to connect with other people. The one-on-one conversations have really helped me to know people both as professionals and as individuals. Podcaster: Robert Kennedy III, Host of https://robertkennedy3.com/ (What's My Story) When to Stop Your Podcast and Start a New One You may not feel like doing it anymore. If you no longer have content that is relevant to your audience. Maybe your audience has grown, maybe you've grown and you don't have something that connects to your audience. How to Get Better at Podcasting? You've got to identify a goal. Who is your podcast HERO? Look at what they've accomplished and reverse engineer that to get to that point. How to Grow Your Audience? It really depends on personality, it depends on where you're starting, it depends on your topic or content. Go back to your why. What is your reason for doing the podcast? Get it in front of the people that are interested in your information. You've got to expose your podcast in places where people care about the stuff that you talk about. How to Get Value from Your Show? I get value by simply getting to know new people. Interviewing people and having different relationships with them. Podcaster: Jeff Peterson, Host of https://fuelingthetank.com/ (FuelingThe Tank) Grow as a podcaster I feel the most important part is to know what it is that you want your podcast to be. What is your purpose? What is it that is going to entertain you? Because that's what's going to bring your passion out. Go out and do it and then do it again. Don't think about creating a podcast because what you think is going to sell. Think about a podcast as far as what it means to you. Grow your audience It's everything outside of podcast that is the best thing to grow your audience. It is on LinkedIn, it's your social media platforms or your personal platform as well. Putting yourself out there as who you are and bringing that purpose of your podcast, intertwining into our personal and LinkedIn network and that's where you're going to start to gain interest and people that are going to follow you. The more organic, natural and authentic way of growing your listeners, that's where it's going to come from because people are more likely to engage with you. Grow your return on investment The value in podcasting should never be about money. When I reach out to people for gas to BizTank, people sense the passion when I reach out to them and they want to help and be part of it even though they don't know me. And now we use Stream Yard like every single thing that you're doing, you're going to progressively get better. Once you understand how the system works. You speak a certain language that you didn't speak before because of that action. Grow your audience When we would interview people, when they would come in for their interview, we'd ask them, hey, do you want people to see the interview as much as possible? And they're like, yes, then we'd send them to this little spot-on Facebook, where it's on your page. And it had two to two effects on it. One was the guest was happy because more people were paying attention to what they were talking about. And we were happy because more people were not following our page. The ones that really stick around are the ones that you engage with. And this strategy is not sexy at all. It requires work and effort, but it's the one that lasts the longest. In this first solo episode of Podcast My Brand, the MAYOR will be sharing some helpful tips and ideas on Podcast Guest Research. One of the most important things when hosting a podcast is to be prepared and to be remembered. And one of the best ways to be remembered is to be a great interviewer. So here are the tips on how you to do guest research for your podcast: Go to their website. Go to their About Us section. Read about what they do, their company and their story. Research If they wrote a book, read their book. Read a chapter or two so you can intelligently speak about at least that chapter. Read any articles or posts that they've made online to get a feel of their style, their language or what makes them tick. Listen or watch the interviews they've done. One thing that will make you memorable is if you ask a question that nobody else asks. Or if you have asked it in a way that nobody else asks. Social media. Check out their posts. What do they post about? What do they NOT post about? Get a feel of what value they bring to the world. https://www.podcasttown.net/perfect-podcast-launch (Launch or Grow Your Show!) Podcaster: Justin Peters, Host of https://commandyourbrand.com/ (The) https://justinpeters.co/ (Struggle) Is Real Podcast Grow as a podcaster I'm a research heavy show. I would spend a whole week researching you. That serves two purposes: Obviously, I can prepare for the guest but also I could get to listen to many different shows that I would never in my free time go out and listen to. Grow your audience Control Your controllables Boots on the ground marketing When you're talking to people one on one, you should be talking to them about your podcast, send them an episode, give them a teaser to it, jump on the clubhouse rooms and share what your podcast is. I wouldn't focus more on big wave marketing type of ideas. I'll focus on how you could get one more listener today and how you can continue to try to do that every single day moving forward. Grow your return on investment I really enjoy the research process. If someone's going to learn something from my show, first of all it's going to be me. Podcaster: Jeremy Ryan Slate, Host of https://commandyourbrand.com/ (Command Your Brand) Grow as a podcaster If you are an interviewer, I've looked at a lot of people that I think are great interviewers like Larry King, Oprah is an incredible interviewer. People like that and I see what they do to get more out of a conversation. Having more and more conversations. You get better at it by doing more interviews because you get kind of this sixth sense around. Like what to ask and when to ask it. Listening. I always keep a pad and paper next to me. Let's say you said something and it brings up a thought for me that I wanted to talk about. I'm going to write it down. Reason being is, I'm going to stop listening to you when I try to remember that thing. It may ruin the conversation because you're going to stop listening to the person that's communicating to you. Grow your audience I try to create things that are unique and native to the platform. In LinkedIn, we write long form written content and it has been a big deal. We're doing a lot with Instagram stories. Having unique interviews does really help Having a high quality video is a big deal too.
