De notre correspondante à Santiago,Tout commence pendant la pandémie de Covid. En télétravail chez lui, Antonio Marshall se laisse pousser la barbe et les cheveux. Un jour, alors qu'il fait son footing, un passant lui fait remarquer sa ressemblance avec « ce célèbre personnage de film qui court sans s'arrêter ».« Quand ils ont annoncé le retour du marathon de Santiago, j'ai repensé à ce que m'a dit ce monsieur et j'ai eu l'idée de faire la course, déguisé en Forrest », se rappelle Antonio. En quelques clics, il achète la casquette Bubba Gump, le tee-shirt jaune, le short rouge ainsi que les baskets blanches. Après quelques hésitations, il sort finalement inaugurer son costume avec sa grande touffe de cheveux et sa longue barbe.« Dès les premiers mètres, une publication Twitter disait que Tom Hanks était au Chili, et ça s'est viralisé », s'exclame le coureur. Antonio a même appris certaines répliques du film par cœur et il a adopté la façon de courir de Forrest Gump : « L'idée, c'est de représenter le personnage de la manière la plus authentique possible, pour que les gens, même 30 ans après la sortie du film, sentent la présence de Forrest Gump, qu'il est toujours d'actualité. »« Je crois que la normalité, c'est d'être différent »Mais au-delà du déguisement, il s'identifie lui-même à Forrest Gump, ce personnage souvent moqué à cause de son autisme. Antonio, lui, était un enfant timide : « Ça a été très dur en primaire, entre 8 et 12 ans. On me donnait de méchants surnoms. Alors, je jouais seul. Quand les gens ne connaissent pas la vie des autres, ils inventent. » Depuis qu'Antonio incarne Forrest, il a acquis de la visibilité sur les réseaux sociaux. Il en profite alors pour faire passer des messages contre le harcèlement et sensibiliser à l'autisme. « Je crois que la normalité, c'est d'être différent, défend-il. Donc, à partir de là, il faut tolérer et respecter les différences, les valoriser. Chaque différence, chaque individualité, a un potentiel. »Lors de sa dernière course de l'année à Santiago, plus de 80 personnes ont couru à ses côtés. Certain avec des bonnets de Noël, d'autres des chapeaux de lutins. « On aime la cause qu'il défend donc on a décidé de l'accompagner aujourd'hui », explique Karina, rejointe par Paola : « On a des proches qui sont atteints d'autisme, avec différents types de handicap, c'est pour ça qu'on est là. »Une autre participante, Gloria, confie avoir adoré le film Forrest Gump : « Quand j'ai vu Antonio, j'ai dit "Wouah !"
