Sitting down with my new friend and brother-in-Christ Richard Matthews for a MUCH NEEDED conversation in todays social climate! Richard is sharing the testimony of how he was raised in the church but not raised in Christ, so he strayed from the faith and began to find his identity in sexuality instead as a gay man suffering with addictions - until he had an encounter with Jesus that radically transformed his life. We will talk about how Richard has gone viral since losing his job for talking about his faith, the backlash he has faced from the LGBTQIA+ community and his process of sanctification since coming to Christ -- as well as the root of perverse sexuality, wounds of false identity and the spiritual reality of this topic. Finally, we'll talk about how it is the LOVE OF GOD that draws sinners to repentance, as Richard helps us understand how to best minister to this community that is truly in desparate suffering. - Richards YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@UC9doyQ9etLysGXTPu-Izb7g Richard's Instagram: @richwithpassion Angela's Instagram: @AngelamarieScafidi - Ways to Support the Show:

Welcome to another episode of The HERO Show. I am your host Richard Matthews, (@AKATheAlchemist) and you are listening to episode 215 with Tom Kulzer – Connecting People Around the World in Remarkable Ways. Tom Kulzer is the CEO & Founder of https://www.aweber.com/ (AWeber)—a company he established in 1998, to help small businesses around the world better and more effectively communicate and build relationships with customers and prospects using permission-based email marketing. Having organically grown AWeber from 0 to over 300,000 active clients, Tom's focus is strategic planning, market strategy, business development, and team building. Recognized as one of Pennsylvania's Best Places to Work for the past 10 consecutive years (2021-2012), Tom believes in creating a unique workplace lifestyle unlike that of most companies. With a culture driven by five core values, they are constantly growing their talented team of 100 team members to take on new, unique challenges in pursuit of growing millions of small businesses around the world. Here's just a taste of what we talked about today:Being Exceedingly Detail Oriented as a SuperpowerTom's superpower is being exceedingly detail-oriented. He leaves very little room to open interpretation when he talks about things, but he sees the connections and interactions between disparate systems and, can tie those pieces together in ways a lot of people can't. He likes to say he is not good at one specific thing, but pretty good at a whole lot of different things. The Driving Force: Connecting People in Remarkable WaysAWeber's driving force is to connect people around the world in remarkable ways. Their company is about creating more personal relationships with people around the world. Tom goes on and says, "Your email lis, isn't just something to monetize. Email addresses are real people." Over the years, they were able to help people connect in more real ways that are more tangible to create ongoing relationships beyond just a transaction. This is the sole reason why they serve the small business space. Their mission at AWeber is what gives Tom the passion to do what he does for the last 24 years—being able to affect that kind of change and see the change that an email from their platform has had on people. Other Topics We Covered on the Show:We also get to know more about what AWeber does, the people they serve, and the services they provide. Then, we talked about Tom's origin story. Creating a program that automatically sends emails when he was in collage paved the way to become who he is now in the Email marketing space. Tom shared his thoughts about email being always the baseline to interact with the internet. Does he see this changing in the future? Being too direct has been Tom's fatal flaw in his business. He fights to overcome this flaw by spending a little more time talking about what went well and why it went well. AWeber's common enemy is people who say, “Permission doesn't apply to me. Everyone wants my emails, or my emails are special, but everyone else's aren't.” Lastly, Tom's guiding principle is the hiker's creed—leave every place you go a little better than where you found it. Recommended Tools: https://slack.com/ (Slack) The HERO ChallengeToday on the show, Tom Kulzer challenged Andy to be a guest on The HERO Show. Tom thinks Andy is a fantastic person to interview because he has a pretty cool story about his everlasting passion for life and work, which has the same approach to—``leave every place that you go a little better than where you found it.” How To Stay Connected with Tom KulzerWant to stay connected with Tom? Today, Ruth tells us all about Mautic and her job there as Project Lead, she fills us in on Drupal and Acquia, and a tool they used in managing community health called, Savannah. We'll also hear Ruth's strategy when she helped with governance, why Open Source Friday is so important, she explains how she diversifies the contributor base, and we hear her ten-year vision for Mautic she's working on. Go ahead and download this episode now to learn more! [00:02:38] Ruth explains what Mautic is, how she became the Project Lead and being on the Community Leadership Team at Joomla. [00:04:48] Find out the difference between Joomla, Drupal, Acquia, and Mautic. [00:06:17] From someone that organizes open source communities at his job, Justin asks Ruth what tools she uses, and she tells us about one called, Savannah. [00:08:54] Ruth tells us about what her strategy was when she helped with governance. [00:12:47] Richard wonders if the assessment also applies to Mautic and if Mautic is just the same as every other open source project on the web. [00:16:03] Eriol asks Ruth to tell us some success stories or things that have been tricky between different kinds of functions within the open source. [00:19:14] We learn how Ruth sees her role or the roles of other people who are being paid as being part of a sustainable path for Mautic itself, and how money has a play in the ecosystem as well as attribution. [00:24:20] Eriol wonders if there's anything people can go read or listen to around how smaller organizations or individuals can make that kind of contribution sustainable and are there things we can implement. [00:27:09] Ruth tells us about a partner's program they created in Mautic. [00:29:27] How does Ruth manage to diversify the contributor base, given that not everyone has the access or time to do that sort of work? [00:35:46] Eriol's spotlight is Fantasy Map Generator. [00:36:20] Ben's spotlight is Roden open source bike design. This allows her to see a company, see a product and know what it should say and what it should look like. It is just very clear for her working with big brands and startups, establishing their foundation and guiding them through a path of growth. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1lpETmg_TNXqAl2MYwCKdSnCumyzfCJtf/view?usp=sharing (Wild Coffee's Driving Force)Amy's driving force is to understand their client's customers, be very clear about what they stand for, and make sure everything stems from that strategy. They never skip the strategy of the visioning positioning and everything they do ties back to that. Also, narrowing down their KPIs and assessing the three to five metrics they are going to track. Tracking those numbers is very important in the work they do because it is a way to let their clients know where they stand at all times. Other Topics We Covered on the Show:We also talked about Amy's origin story. Her several job experiences and her parents investing in a consulting business for her paved the way to where she is now. Amy shared the reason why her parents invested in a consulting business for her. Not being comfortable talking about money has been Amy's fatal flaw in her business. She was able to overcome this type of flaw by knowing her value in the market. Two things Amy constantly has to fight against in her business are strategy before tactics and the thought that when you build it, they do not just come. Lastly, Amy's driving force is one, do what you say you're going to do with integrity. The second is always be moving the needle for your clients. Welcome to another episode of The HERO Show. I am your host Richard Matthews, (@AKATheAlchemist) and you are listening to episode 211 with Alejandro Szita – Achieving Financial Objective Through Mortgage. Alejandro Szita is the president of https://prosperity-lending.com/ (Prosperity Lending) which is a licensed real estate brokerage for artists, business owners, and entrepreneurs. He currently serves California and Florida and is soon to expand to other states. He enjoys helping people get the mortgage they need, especially when their financial situation is complex and/or out of the ordinary (which it usually is). Alejandro has been involved with mortgages and real estate since 2006. Here's just a taste of what we talked about today:https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ilX2xe0_WMfLX8V9e1b0Jd8DB2YxDxj1/view?usp=sharing (The Ability to See the Bigger Picture)Alejandro's superpower is the ability to see the bigger picture and see how the story helps them find the right product. When people call him, he never asks about their credit score or anything that's related to numbers. He asks them what they want, because that frames the whole conversation, frames all of the numbers, and frames all of the formulas in a certain direction. If he starts asking about formulas, he's never going to get anywhere. And the client is probably never going to qualify. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1SBHl-IW7UQ7ZL2DHaGINwAXJGbluFfoB/view?usp=sharing (To Look At Mortgage as a Financial Instrument)Alejandro's driving force is for people to look at the mortgage, not as a bill, but as a financial instrument that they can mold to achieve their objective. He notices that some clients treat them as a commodity saying, "Oh like, oh, well you're one of the three or four we're calling". And this never works because they can't compete in terms. The services they provide are a little bit more expensive because they take a long time and do a lot of things that other brokers don't do. So people who are just looking for pricing don't do well with them because that's not what they are about. Other Topics We Covered on the Show:We get to know more about Alejandro's business, the people that he serves, and the services he provides for them. Then, we talked about Alejandro's origin story. Receiving a financial seminar invite has paved the way for him to be a mortgage broker for artists, business owners, and entrepreneurs. Wanting to do everything by himself and trying to make others view reality as himself are Alejandro's fatal flaws in his business. He is able to overcome these types of flaws by giving complete freedom to the people that he works with. Antagonizing clients with what they want and working with detail-oriented people are Alejandro's arch nemesis in his business. He works these out by giving what the client wants and hiring a compliance officer. Lastly, Alejandro's guiding principles are: Do only things that you believe in, don't do things just for money, and always disclose things. An example is, that they started 25 internal companies within that company and about half of the ideas did not come from their product teams or their innovation team. They mostly came from somebody like their front desk office manager. Oftentimes there are people in companies that are not from a position level and are often disregarded. From an expertise level perspective, people don't look for solutions in other areas of the company. Kurt had this unique ability to always go outside of the core expert areas and find unique solutions that existed within the company and teams. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1wdXqYHy5NhHY76Lhme30yfz68qZnFfV3/view?usp=sharing (Passionate About People)Kurt's passion for people is the driving force in his business. He thinks that one of the reasons he has been successful in so many different industries is because he is open to trying new things. He goes on and says, “When your passion is people and you're fighting for that, you can go to any industry and attack it and be good”. Kurt has been just as happy helping people with their passion and goals because that also helped him figure out if he likes what other people care about. He also mentioned that If you don't know what you're fighting for find out what somebody else is fighting for and go head over tail in helping them. Other Topics We Covered on the Show:We get to know what Kurt is known for and the particular industry that he serves. Kurt also shares the process to know when a company or a small business is ready for hyper-growth. Then, we talked about Kurt's origins story. Kurt's career started with two legal entities when he was 14 from that he had some partnerships along the way which became very successful and then focused on helping companies grow. Not realizing his own needs or other people has been Kurt's fatal flaw in his business. He overcomes this type of flaw by having a common language. He created http://hjzproductions.com/ (HJZ Productions, Inc) in 2000 to address the need for professional level sports crewing/staffing in the New York market. Under his leadership, HJZ Productions grew to a multi-million dollar nationwide provider of the top talent in the broadcasting field. With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020, they quickly pivoted to offering best in class, broadcast quality livestreams of professional sports shows and interviews, corporate interviews and meetings, and religious services. He goes on and said, “because if I'm the smartest person in the room, then we have a big problem.” Currently, with his businesses, he has one person that manages and is in charge of each business. His role is to oversee everything. Howie's Driving ForceHowie love what he does, love the television business and loves creating. Being able to get a replay and fight to have the best shot and have his shot be used the most makes him love his craft all the more. Whatever he needed to do to get the best shot, whether take the camera off his shoulder, shoot for his knee, or put the camera above his head. He would do whatever it would take. With his business now, he loves being able to walk away from helping produce a live event or a live stream and having the client say, “we're so glad we used you guys because that was the best event we ever did”. He overcomes these by composing content on Google Docs and getting back to it a few minutes later and with priorities he learned how to set boundaries. The question—why would people choose a small business over huge competitors is the common enemy at HJZ Productions. Howie also described what a camera operator's mistake looks like. In an epiphany moment he had after some significant soul searching, he decided to do something for someone else, for the first time in his adult life, which is embarrassing to admit. He called a church to find out who needed help on Thanksgiving. He bought big boxes of food with frozen turkeys and toys for five families. On his third stop, the woman he presented it to started crying. Then her kids came out and they cried. Seeing the impact his act of service had on that third family changed Rob's life forever. Other Topics We Covered on the Show:We also talked about Rod's origin story and what he is known for in the real estate industry. Then, Rod shared how his Mom's real estate story translated for him to be a real estate investor. Next, Rod discussed what the goal-setting session framework is all about. Being impatient and not setting boundaries has been Rob's fatal flaw in his business. He has gotten better over the course of time by learning how to say NO. The antithesis of perfectionism—the need to check every box before moving forward has been the common enemy in Rod's business. He fights this by teaching his students to take action. Rod's personal heroes are her Mom, Tony Robbins, and Elon Musk. These three people have contributed much to his success. He is a big believer that we've been sold this narrative that finance needs to be complicated. And a lot of that has come from creating a reliance on the financial services industry in order to get certain financial outcomes. He is also a big believer in shifting control back into the hands of everyday people, particularly business owners to help them become great financial stewards and play an active role being in the driver's seat as they work towards financial freedom for themselves and their families. Jackson has been in this industry for a decade and a half now and have loved every minute of it. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1T7_Xdwsqtrg1UFLMuynNBchn4DCCocye/view?usp=sharing (Jackson's Zone of Genius)Jackson's superpower is the ability to help people define the real financial north star and create a three-dimensional wealth plan. He mentioned that the vast majority of people, when it comes to creating wealth, chase the vehicle, instead of the destination. The problem is that most people have never been taught how to goal set and create a financial game plan properly. And that's because most of their goals are actually not goals, they're dreams because they're superficial, they're unquantified, they're wishy-washy, they're gray, and you can't plan with an unclarified plan. So what Jackson do is help them clarify that north star and reverse engineer it backward. In this episode of the Thoughtful Entrepreneur, your host Josh Elledge speaks with the founder and CEO of https://pushbuttonpodcasts.com/ (Pushbutton Podcasts), Richard Matthews. Pushbutton Podcasts is a full service podcasting agency that focuses on small business get into the small marketing game. Pushbutton Podcasts makes it as easy as ‘pushing the start and stop button' for their clients to be podcasters. They handle everything from show notes and production to publication and derivative content. Richard and his team help their clients leverage their content and distribute it across all platforms, all on their behalf. Josh and Richard discuss how working with Pushbutton Podcasts would differ from someone trying to produce their own podcast in house. Richard explains that Pushbutton can replace or work alongside a social media manager to create and distribute the content from scratch. Pushbutton takes care of everything, which means you don't need to hire an entire team on your end to publish your content. When you don't have to worry about hiring editors, copywriters, social media managers, and more, you can focus on adding value to your content. Richard shares three things you need to consider when deciding to start a podcast; attention, awareness, and authority. When it comes to ‘attention', you have to be visible in your market before you're able to do anything; you need to have people's attention. You need to show up with high quality content and value to stand out in your space, so this is how you drum up awareness. Once you deliver that quality content consistently enough, the authority comes along with that. Josh and Richard also explore setting expectations with entrepreneurs looking to start a podcast. Richard shares that he tells his clients that if they're looking to increase sales and grow revenue, there's three things you need. You need an audience, which you can grow through bought ads, through ‘borrowing' them (podcast guesting, strategic partnerships, etc.), or by building them. The difference between these is how long it takes to see ROI and how much you need to invest on the front end. If you put the time and effort into building an audience, you will have the authority and awareness you need to generate revenue. You need to strategically build, borrow, and buy simultaneously as you grow, Richard explains. While you can use one primary method as your main source, don't put all of your eggs in one basket when it comes to creating your podcast audience. Richard says that odcasting is a high-intimacy sort of content. People listen to your podcast when they cook, drive, work out, etc. This means you're in someone's ear and domestic life, perhaps on a daily basis. You don't need to go ‘big' when it comes to audience numbers, you just need to know how to connect with your core audience. Want to learn more? Here's just a taste of what we talked about today:https://drive.google.com/file/d/1zukKqICvlp_l14pLmO7NW4cch5pAvlVK/view?usp=sharing (The Celebrity Entrepreneur)When Clint was starting out as a coach, author, and speaker, he was taking seminars to try to figure out how to become somebody who could sell books and seminar tickets and make money from helping people with his gifts. One of the mentors he studied with asked, “If you could dominate any Google search term, what would it be? He put down the word entrepreneur. He has not been able to dominate the word entrepreneur. But along the way of learning how to be somebody who people want to pay a lot of money to, he realized that he needs to be a celebrity in the eyes of clients. And that's how he became what he is known for today—helping people become celebrity entrepreneurs. https://drive.google.com/file/d/14LStSw79d0tSqoVuhXINRaYh42flMVxv/view?usp=sharing (The Superpowers of Superpowers)Clint believes that communication is the key. Other Topics We Covered on the Show:Clint shared his origin story of going from essentially a nobody to basically turning himself into a celebrity. He also talked about how he teaches people to book themselves on television and how that skill impacted his career. Then we discussed two important points about asking better questions: Doing the hard work and the willingness to show up. Saying things that people don't want to hear has been Clint's fatal flaw in his business. To tone down this type of flaw he sets a safety word for his clients. Not believing to be good enough in their area of expertise or what's called the imposter syndrome is Clint's arch-nemesis in his business. Clint's driving force is all about creating a community of celebrity entrepreneurs who are able to help their clients and change the world at the highest levels. Lastly, Clint's guiding principle is from his favorite quote by General George S. Patton: Work hard, show up, do your best, have fun, and accept the challenges so that...
Welcome to another episode of The HERO Show. I am your host Richard Matthews, (@AKATheAlchemist) and you are listening to episode 202 with Tanner Larsson – MECH.GAME: A Raising Standard of NFT's & Blockchain Gaming. Tanner Larsson was the CEO of https://buildgrowscale.com/ (Build Grow Scale), which is one of the biggest and best ecom training companies in the world. Just recently, Tanner stepped down as the CEO of BGS to pursue a crypto-based gaming project called https://mech.game/ (MECH.GAME)—a game-ready mechanized 3D NFT's. Here's just a taste of what we talked about today:What NFT (Non Fungible Token) Does? The best way to describe NFT or Non-Fungible Token is, if you have a quarter in your hand, I have a quarter in my hand, and we put them on the table, and I mix them up and cover them up. Can you identify your token? The answer is No, because they're fungible, meaning they're interchangeable as the same. NFT is non-fungible token. So what we did was we took that currency, and we wrote, Tanner's quarter and Richards's quarter on it. Then we mix them up, do you know which one's yours? Of course, you do, because it has your serial number on it. The NFT technology, at the most basic level, is a way to put a serial number on digital stuff. You can use it in insurance, business, applications, art, etc. MECH.GAME Gameplay With https://mech.game/ (MECH.GAME) you'll have a hero character that runs around the map that you control. We made the game more fun by building in a strategic element where you have to mine resources in the games to have a little bit of that strategy aspect, those resources are used to build your towers, and repair your towers in the level. The game is a top-down Tower Defense-style with a hero character as your Mech. All of those, the Mech and the stronghold are the main NFT's that you own. They're upgradable, they earn experience, and they have game stats that can be improved, like health, battle, power, energy, all those kinds of things. And when you upgrade them, that reports to the blockchain and stores that data. Other Topics We Covered on the Show:The difference between playing video games and NFT games. Tanner also shared the things that they are going to help solve in the marketplace by building MECH.GAME. Then, Tanner discussed who are their target gamers for MECH.GAME. Next, Tanner talked about MECH.GAME's gameplay for a new players and an experienced players. Tanner shared MECH.GAME'S targeting platform and its target release date. We also talked about some of the ways on how the game gain the market share to be a mover and shaker in the space. And then, Tanner discussed how would people buy their Mechs. One of the aspects of trauma that needs to be fully recognized is its intergenerational potential: the trauma that a student carries with them can often be further weighted by what their parents and or ancestors experienced. This is particularly true for people of color and indigenous populations. Mary Peter, District Vice-Principal, Indigenous Education, Cowichan Valley School District on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, and Richard Matthews, the District Counselor at the Cowichan Valley School District provide the details.

The entire purpose of the show is to help change the narrative on entrepreneurs being the villains, which is a cultural problem we have in America. I had someone hop on my show and I wasn't able to get her bio ahead of time and I came to find out that she runs a company that does $500 million dollars a month in sales and she fixes a lot of things in my business. What things have you done over the years to get better at the craft of podcasting? If you want to be a better interviewer as a podcaster there are two things that you should do, one is you should be ignorant and the other one is you should be curious. Pick up as much as you can from them. When you put those things together with ignorance and curiosity then you can really dive deep into other people's expertise and stories.
