Welcome to season 8 Episode 2 of The Sober Experiment Podcast by Bee Sober where Alex and Lisa chat with Vicki Rebecca. TRIGGER WARNING: This episode discusses rape in significant detail Vicki Rebecca has run a successful private Hypnosis and Neuro Linguistic Programming practice that includes one to one therapy, both in-person and online, classes, retreats, live-in intensives, books and products since 1999. Since 2003 that practice has included retreats all over the world including Egypt, India, Turkey, the sacred sites of Scotland and more. She wrote her first book: ‘The Me I Want To Be: Simple Shifts To Authentic Wellbeing' initially for the clients and students she'd worked with for over twenty years. It was also a way of pulling all her knowledge together, but most of all she wrote it for those who could not manage to go along to sessions or classes because of cost or distance. It had always been a source of frustration to Vicki that she could not help them too. To make her work accessible to a larger audience she wrote the book and recorded over ten hours of instruction and guided journeys to accompany it. In response to “The Me I Want To Be” when she has opened up during public talks, informal chats, and most especially her own realisation that a huge part of her sadhana IS to share her story, Vicky has now written her autobiography, no holds barred: “Naked Truth: Diary of a Glamour Model” is a time document ranging from 1956 to today. The true story of a young runaway who made her way through the seedy photo booths of Soho of the 1970s into a career as a page three girl and Monroe lookalike. A broken heart left her fluctuating between stardom, drugs and despair and when she hit rock bottom a spiritual experience changed her life. Vicki Rebecca has certainly lived! Welcome to season 7 of The Sober Experiment Podcast by Bee Sober where Alex and Lisa chat with Lea Watson, founder of Glow Sober. Originally an Instagram page to review alcohol-free drinks and literature, it has now evolved into working with organisations to support their employees by raising awareness of the impact of alcohol. Lea's son was killed in a road traffic collision when he got into a car with his friend who drunk. He crashed and Jack was left with catastrophic and fatal injuries. We are back for season six episode eight of our podcast. Alex and Lisa chat with Sam (Aka Dare to dip) about cold water therapy and how it can be a fantastic addition to sobriety and therapy for mental health! Sam struggled with his Mental Health for years, specifically anxiety and depression. The anxiety started in school and Sam had no idea what this feeling was in his chest. He soon learnt that it was not physical pain but a mental one. Later in life, he turned to alcohol and drugs, which soon escalated leading him to go off the rails. This only heightened his anxiety and escalated his feelings of depression. Sam discovered Cold Water Therapy, and decided to train his body with 30 days of cold water showers. And then like everything else he does in life, he wanted to take this to the next level. Sam decided to take a dip in the North Sea every day for a year and is now asking people to support him by joining in or donating to his charity of choice, Anxiety UK! On today's episode we speak to Kim Bellas, aka Sober is the New Cool. In 2013, her 15 -year-old started having seizures. Like most teenagers, he enjoyed going to parties and socializing. A significant aspect of these parties was the consumption of alcohol, and her son was unable to drink due to his seizures. As a mother, it was instinctive to make him happy by assuring him that alcohol wasn't necessary for him to enjoy himself. It IMMEDIATELY dawned on her how hypocritical she was being as she found herself frequently drinking wine. To prove a point to her son, she stopped drinking for 3 months. The time went by quicker than she anticipated, and she decided to remain sober for another 3 months. Following 6 months of sobriety, she found herself happier than she had been in a while. What started as an example for her son became something she decided to commit to for her son and herself. It's now 2022, and she is proud to announce that she has been sober for 8 years. Sobriety has changed her outlook on life for the better and has improved both her physical and mental well-being. Her goal is to demonstrate that a SOBER LIFE is an exhilarating one, and anyone can reap the benefits. On today's episode Alex and Lisa speak to Sarah Drage. Sarah lost her Dad to alcohol addiction in 2017 and she strongly believes the stigma attached to his illness prevented him from accessing lifesaving support. As a consequence of her Dad's addiction, she developed OCD, anxiety, and PTSD which enabled her to properly understand what her Dad was going through himself. However, that also led to an immense amount of guilt because she only understood once he had died. On today's episode we speak to Justin B. Long, who is an author, business owner, and the host of the podcast, Straight from the Horse Doctor's Mouth which he produces with his wife, Dr. Erica Lacher. His best-selling book series, The Adventures of the Horse Doctor's Husband, has been enjoyed by readers all over the world. While his wife's mission is to make the world a better place for horses, Justin's mission is to make the world a better place for people by combatting toxically masculine ideas surrounding men and their emotions. His current book, The Righteous Rage of a Ten-Year-Old Boy, is a raw, intense examination of his childhood, the traumatic events that formed his negative self-image, and his journey through therapy to overcome it all. Today, Alex and Lisa talk to Ellie Webb, founder of Caleño. Ellie believes sometimes in life, when you can't find what you need, it's time to make it yourself. Caleño was born out of personal frustration. Founder Ellie was on an alcohol-free night out with friends, getting down to some Latin funk. But something was bugging her. Why should not drinking mean not having fun? She felt uninspired by the alcohol-free drinks on offer and decided it was time to bring some joy to not drinking. Today Alex and Lisa chat to William Porter, author of Alcohol Explained and Alcohol Explained 2. William started drinking and smoking when he was around 14 years old. In his late teens, in an attempt to stop smoking, he read Allen Carr's Easyway. He was fascinated by his pragmatic and practical approach to what was a confusing and complicated subject. Over the years his drinking steadily increased but he continued to take a common sense analysis of what it was doing to him, coupled with a technical analysis of the chemical, physiological and psychological factors at play. This continued for over a quarter of a century, during which he joined the 4th (Reserve) Battalion of the Parachute Regiment, served a 6 month tour of Iraq, qualified as a lawyer, started a career in the Financial Services sector of the City of London, got married, and had children. His drinking continued to increase until, in February 2014, he finally stopped for good. He now lives with his wife and two children in West London, and continues to work as a lawyer.
