The Adventures of Power Dog in Dogland! is an incredible podcast that has captivated both me and my daughter. We are constantly on the edge of our seats, eagerly awaiting the next episode to see where the wild rides will take us. It has become a favorite activity for us to listen together, and it's brought us so much joy. I can't thank the creators enough for providing such entertaining content.

One of the best aspects of this podcast is its family-friendly nature. It's refreshing to find a show that I can feel comfortable letting my eight-year-old daughter listen to on her own. The storytelling is charming and imaginative, keeping us both engaged throughout each episode. The script is well-written and the voice work is convincing, bringing the characters in Dogland to life. The teachable moments sprinkled throughout the episodes are also a wonderful addition, allowing for educational opportunities without feeling forced.

Another aspect that stands out is the catchy original tunes featured in each episode. They add an extra layer of enjoyment to the storytelling and my daughter often finds herself humming along with them. Additionally, there is an age-appropriate vocabulary lesson included, which helps expand my daughter's language skills while she's being entertained.

While there aren't many negative aspects to highlight about this podcast, one minor downside would be that my daughter often listens on her own, causing me to play catch-up with the episodes. However, I recognize that this is more due to the fact that she enjoys it so much rather than a fault of the podcast itself.

In conclusion, The Adventures of Power Dog in Dogland! is a fantastic podcast that I highly recommend for families. It provides a whimsical and immersive experience full of entertaining storytelling and engaging characters. Whether you're a parent looking for screen-free escapism or an adult seeking captivating storytelling, this podcast has something for everyone. It has quickly become a favorite in our household and we eagerly await each new episode.

Who's ready to get this party startled?!  We love Halloween and jokes so much that we decided to throw together this bonus episode of just super fun Howl-o-ween dog jokes and some of our favorite regular Halloween jokes for spooky season. And, if you haven't yet, be sure to check out our super sweet "Howl-o-ween" special! It's a fun, exciting, and magical tale of tails- about a pair of young raccoon-type twin dogs living on Dogland. This story can be listened to without having listened to our serial episodes in Seasons 1 & 2. Although the story has some mild suspense and Halloween-adjacent fun, it is mostly fun and silly and meant to delight young listeners (age 4+) and old. It will lift your spirits and give 'em pumpkin to talk about! Special thanks to our creative partner Jason Roark who records, edits, and designs this show. This episode featured a bit of Jason's Howl-o-ween version of a family favorite song, In the Hall of Mountain King by Grieg, who hated the song and wrote it to be a parody of the music of the time that he disliked. We love all of Peer Gynt and encourage you to check it out! Stick around to the very end of this jokes episode to hear a public domain symphony arrangement courtesy of Orange Free Sounds- a great resource for free audio. Thank you for tuning in to a special, bedtime-friendly bonus episode of The Adventures of Power Dog in Dogland about falling in love with the sea! There's no loud, be-bopping rock anthem or toe-tapping banjo fun in this episode. Instead, you'll hear Phoebe's “sleepytime” voice, soothing ocean waves, and gentle music. We even end the episode with a solid five minutes of ocean waves gently splashing on soft, silky sand. And, as many listeners have requested, this is a story about Taffy, Power Dog's first cousin, and Tuffy's twin sister. We have sometimes referred to her as the bravest dog in all of Dogland, but a quality she has that we really admire is her curiosity. For this young pup who sat by the sea and who wondered — and for other puppies who wonder — What sea stories are yet to be told? We explain what “zoomies” are, how water travels through the world to become part of the ocean, what is left when you dry out ocean water, and what salt and lime crystals look like under a microscope. This story is based on the first part of a short and lovely book in the public domain called Sea Stories for Wonder Eyes by Mary Earle Hardy. You can hear the book read to you for free at Librivox.com- an incredible online catalog of free, public domain audiobooks read by volunteers from around the world. A note to grownups: because most of the books, short stories, and poems featured in Librivox are from around a century ago, some content may not feel suitable for your families to listen to and might be worth a preview before sharing with your younger people. Feel free to reach out via our many social channels or email if you want to discuss this further. Special thanks to Anders Lund for helping us record this episode. And, thanks as well to the über-talented artists at Orange Free Sounds, who provide a robust library of music and sound effects for others to use. This episode was edited using the phenomenally easy & intuitive Descript App, which we wholeheartedly recommend. (Affiliate link benefits our show.) “What problems, what forces Against us shall bide While the stars in their courses Do fight on our side?” Adapted from Rudyard Kipling's The Astrologer's Song, this episode uses epic poetry to visit a dream state before Power Dog goes on to the next leg of his journey in our unfolding epic tale of tails for season two. We strongly believe in the power of poetry! If you'd like to read more about why it is so important for students, then we highly recommend reading this article from Edutopia: https://www.edutopia.org/blog/five-reasons-poetry-needed-schools-elena-aguilar. Art is the crucial language of emotion, and poetry refines our language. Poetry is music, and poetry is therapy. Poetry is joy, and poetry can be a righteous rage. It can teach social-emotional learning and help us find better ways to understand ourselves and others. If you love this episode, and it leaves you hungry for more great poetry for kids, we highly recommend checking out our friends and fellow Kids Listen member shows Buttons & Figs, Kids Poetry Club, and Mary Farfisa's Outer Space Radio Theater- a musical story podcast with wonderful poetry and poetic language stitched into the music and dialog. We open with a recap, a reminder of where everyone is at this moment in the story, and a rousing speech from President Bernie Sandals about the call to love our world in uncertain times. Thank you to author Joanna Macy for inspiring the talk that inspired the addition of this speech into our story. Our conversation was a response to Hank's growing awareness of ecosystems and climate change. Thank you to his wonderful 2nd-grade teacher, Mme. Kate, for raising awareness through creativity for Hank and his peers! We discuss the words ‘ecosystem” and “phenomenon” in scientific and contextual meaning in this episode as well! We are so excited to be sharing this special episode with you, based on conversations we've had as we try to understand what it feels like to process, feel, define, and heal from trauma, what it means to find balance when you might be afraid of failure, and the strength we gain from family and community–making any adventures pawsible. As many parents and carers of kids know, the daily practice of guiding young people through life ranges from challenging to silly, and back again, and it can take us to deep places on a dime. This episode goes deep. We talk about how trauma can pass from body to body, how interconnected we are, and why it's a gift in life to experience failure. We use tools like deep belly breathing, rhyming jokes, EMDR to unpack distressing memories, affirmations of love, speaking our stories, and asking for help to lean into strength. And, we also share more about Mom Slice's past as a champion swordfighter! Also, one of the sweetest things Hank has ever shared about Dogland is information about the planet's “Great Great Tree” and the slogan, “We are all connected at our roots and rooted in our connection.” Some further resources for grown people are: On trauma and somatic healing: My Grandmother's Hands by Resmaa Menakem On everything from failure to shame to healing to living a wholehearted life, Brené Brown. And, for people of all ages, we recommend listening to fellow Kids Listen member show, Best Day Yet Podcast, a show serving affirmations, adventures, and mindfulness tools for calmer, kinder, more confident kids. Special thanks to Jason Roark who records, edits, and designs this show. He also provides original music including our theme song, which is sung by him and the wonderful, talented Jen Bernard. Hank's Granny, aka Jeanie Murphy, recorded three fun old-time turkey songs with her banjo for us this year, and we thought they were too great to keep to ourselves--especially in a season of giving! Hank had a lot of fun singing this particular Turkey Lurkey song with his fantastic music teacher at school, so he rang his Granny when he got home and they sang it together. We feel so fortunate to have a musical Granny, and Hank has been musical since before he was born. The two of them have been noodling on songs together since he was knee-high to a penny whistle! "Turkey in the Straw" is an American folk song that first gained popularity in the early 19th century. "Turkey Lurkey Run So Fast" is a classroom rhyme that Hank has really enjoyed. He also provides original music including our opening theme song, which is sung & performed by him and the wonderful, talented Jen Bernard. This episode featured a bit of Jason's Howl-o-ween version of a family favorite song, In the Hall of Mountain King by Grieg, who hated the song and wrote it to be a parody of the music of the time that he disliked. We love all of Peer Gynt and encourage you to check it out! This episode's cover art is by Mom Slice and features our original Power Dog illustration by Matthew Hayes. If you catch a moment, and can follow, rate, and/or review the show, we would be so grateful! It really helps get the word out for our small, indie, mom & pop & pup, family operation.
