On this episode of The Schoch Factor Podcast, we have a special postseason version of the Schott Factor, where Stephen Schoch once again sits down with Texas A&M's ever-exciting Hayden Schott to catch up on how he has been since they last talked. He has been able to do some fun things in the past couple of weeks, such as seeing the SEC Tournament in Hoover for the first time and participating in a home regional and now a super regional. So, we ask him what it was like to be a part of a team that was tasked with such a challenge. We have appreciated getting Hayden's insight all season long, and selfishly I am hoping for the Aggies to make it to Omaha so I can see my friend Hayden and his friends out there! On this episode of The Schoch Factor Podcast, Stephen Schoch, Jake Mintz and Jordan Shusterman react to the selection show and do their best to highlight what they are excited about and looking forward to in each regional. First, however, they give a nod to some of the fellas who they felt earned themselves a spot in the Field of 64 but got snubbed. On this episode of The Schoch Factor Podcast, Stephen Schoch is joined by Kentucky closer Johnny Hummel. Johnny has had an awesome collegiate career that started back in 2019 at Erskine, where he was trying to become a catcher for the Flying Fleet. After a number of years, Johnny ultimately found his way to the mound and began finding out that's where he truly could contribute. While still maintaining his catcher duties in the fall, sometimes Johnny would stop catching bullpens to throw one of his own, but it wasn't until later in his career that he truly became a P.O. Fast forward a couple of years and now he is the closing pitcher on one of the hottest teams in the nation. On this episode of The Schoch Factor Podcast, we are joined by one of the hardest working men in college baseball, UNC Greensboro two-way star Caleb Cozart.I say this for a multitude of reasons. He pitches and he hits – he actually is now the single-season home run record holder for UNCG after only his second full season of hitting at the college level. And in the world of NIL, where we see some players get paid just to be themselves, Caleb is out here working a demolition job 8-12 every day of the week. He's doing this while being a student and college baseball player, which is insanely impressive and hard to do. I remember when I worked at State Farm for an offseason. It was exhausting, and all I had to do at practice was throw about a 15-pitch bullpen. This dude is out here doing it and then doing a full practice.Besides that, Caleb has had what I would define as one of the rockier college baseball experiences, from blowing out his elbow 12 pitches into his freshman fall, to finding out he had a brain tumor a handful of months later. You may think you had a tough time finding your footing in college, but to say this dude had a lot on his plate is a massive understatement. Through all of that, though, what is inspiring is the fact that Caleb never used this bad luck as an excuse or ever truly had too long of a pity party. He may say he did for a bit, but looking at his timeline, this warrants at least a year or two of being bummed, and Caleb took like a week and was back to just putting his head down and getting to work.I don't often talk in certainties or at extremes, but I can confidently say after listening to this episode, you will want to live life a little bit more like Caleb! On this episode of The Schoch Factor Podcast, Stephen Schoch catches up with one of the Robinhoods of pirating in East Carolina's Carter Cunningham (Barter Bunningham). In terms of being an ECU Pirate baseball player, Carter does a phenomenal job, mashing home runs and being a leader both at the plate and defending it. In terms of being a nautical sea pirate, that's where I do unfortunately see him falling short. Most pirates would pillage and steal and keep treasures for themselves, whereas Carter is a pirate who is giving back through a campaign called “Homers that Help,” donating the money to Maynard Children's Hospital. Personally, I think Carter's pirate choices are pretty rad!The Schoch Factor is brought to you by Soldier Sports.Follow Stephen on Twitter: @BigDonkey47Follow the podcast on Twitter: @SchochFactorPodSubscribe to The Schoch Factor on Apple | SpotifyThe Schoch Factor is also brought to you by Baseball BBQ. On this episode of The Schoch Factor Podcast, Stephen Schoch is joined by Virginia Tech's Carson DeMartini and Arkansas' Will McEntire to share what has been going into their success this season, along with how they even got into college baseball in the first place. All too often we see people balling out at the college level, and it is easy to think to ourselves, “Well, they are at the pinnacle of their career – of course they have always been good and everyone has always known about them!” Well, in college baseball that is almost often never the case, and honestly this is where you find my favorite kind of players. The dudes who were doubted, the ones who “on paper don't have the tools,” because in my opinion tools are overrated. Recruiting based on tools alone to me is lazy, because everyone can see the tools, anyone can do it. If you want to be an elite recruiter, you need to be the type of person who can find the intangibles, the gumption. Then you throw together a team of dudes who were told they weren't good enough or they couldn't make it? Those dudes are gonna perform like crazy. Carson DeMartini and Will McEntire are two dudes who have those intangibles, and I would take them on my team any day of the week. On this episode of The Schoch Factor Podcast, Stephen Schoch is joined by Duke's Ben Miller and Maryland's Eddie Hacopian. Miller recently transferred to his hometown school after spending his undergrad years at Penn. This week, Ben went back to his old elementary school and read to some of their students and had them all come out to a game where his third-grade teacher threw out the first pitch. Ben has been off to a really hot start this season at the plate – which is really cool – but that pales in comparison to the experience he gave those young fans. Following that, Schoch is joined by Hacopian, who talks to us about what it means to be playing baseball at his dad's alma mater and to be able to make a name for himself in his own right as a Terp. Eddie goes over his messy recruiting path that ultimately led him to his dream school with his little brother Chris.
