Here's our song of the episode: "An Empty Corner."Meredith mentioned Chris Lambert's podcast "Your Own Backyard."Here's "Are You Listening?" - the song Paul Hobbs wrote about Meredith going away to college...and "I'll Miss You Then," the song he wrote when her brother went off to college. It's a whole genre. Here's the page of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens that features the quote Meredith mis-remembered.We briefly reflected again on "We Were Lucky..."and "Love is Everywhere (Beware)..."and "Hold Me Anyway."(And if you think those links just lead to the songs themselves, they don't! "We Were Lucky" leads to a fan-created extended version of the song, just to troll Mary and Meredith we suspect ;) ; "Love is Everywhere (Beware)" leads to a Nels & Jeff interview about the song; and "Hold Me Anyway leads to the Songkick Live performance in which Jeff mentions frequently ending shows on this song, which feels appropriate to us.)Find us on Instagram for updates. It's kind of like we're the kids leaving home... or are you the kids and we're the parents? Either way. Until next time... remember Wilco Will Love You, always.

On this episode we discuss "Hold Me Anyway," and this Songkick Live performance of it is excellent. Is this song even better than "Love is Everywhere (Beware)?" It might be!Here's the urbandictionary.com definition of "guitarmony," so apparently the word exists beyond Adam Nash.Does this song harken back to Summerteeth? You be the judge. We were really scarred by "We Were Lucky," I guess, because we can't stop talking about it. This is the fan extended version to further scar us.We mentioned the call and response feature of this Beatles tune.We mentioned harmoniums, and harmoniums are cool."That plastic bag is me.""I'm like a hologram."We talk a bit about negative self talk, so here's a video about it.Next episode shall be "An Empty Corner" (this version is from Songkick Live). Also, can't believe we haven't done this in the show notes yet, just for the fun of it, but here it is... We're talking about "We Were Lucky."Meredith and Mary aren't in quite the right headspace to properly appreciate this song, but for those who are, here's an article suggesting that listening to sad songs when in a bad mood can help people to emotionally regulate.Mary compared the structure of this song to that of the Beatles song "A Day in the Life," so here it is for you to enjoy. She also mentions two of her favorite Wilco songs that have stressful instrumentation. One is "Side with the Seeds" here in this video from the film Ashes of American Flags... ...and the other is "Ashes of American Flags" itself. Here you go, folks: Orff instruments, as explained by a music education website.Remember "Before Us?" It was like a happy hike :)Here's a rattlesnake sound for you.The fact that Wilco can do a song like this and also an upbeat jam like "Love is Everywhere (Beware)" is great. And that exact jam is next week's tune.

I couldn't find the video of Levon Helm doing it on "I Shall Be Released," by The Band but this drum forum proves that I didn't hallucinate it.That Tom Waits snare detail was also from that Fresh Air interview shared on a previous episode's show notes. All twee drum wizardry speculation aside, this account is abundant proof that Glenn Kotche can do anything. We mentioned Jeff Tweedy's book yet again. We talked about the amazing song "One Sunday Morning" from The Whole Love.Well, look at that!
