The word Sabbath comes from a Hebrew word meaning “day of rest”. On the last day of creation God looked at all He had made as very good and then rested from His work. “To keep it holy”…this four-word phrase in English is only one word in Hebrew which means to consecrate, set-apart or sanctify this day. We keep the Sabbath set-apart as a reminder that we have been set-apart as God's own people. His heart of love, protection & provision are upon us and this day is Holy because it's a day to allow our hearts to rest in His…and this is the Heart of the Matter.

In this powerful episode, Ben and Simon explore the Ten Commandments as a timeless guide for transforming our lives, offering a moral compass and deepening our relationship with God in an increasingly turbulent world. These ancient laws, when properly understood and applied, are more than religious rules; they are a blueprint for holistic spiritual growth and a blueprint for living a faith-filled life in the modern age.As global culture grows more distracted, Ben and Simon express their heartfelt gratitude for listeners and announce exciting Gospel of John giveaways designed to encourage a deeper connection with the Scriptures. They stress the need to revive biblical literacy and reclaim the core message of the Bible—one that's often overshadowed by an abundance of irrelevant literature and distractions in the world today. Are churches worldwide losing sight of their spiritual heritage? Are Bibles gathering dust on shelves while secular ideologies flood in? This episode challenges the listener to reflect on whether today's churches have become too focused on worldly trends, and how we can return to the timeless truth found in Scripture. The conversation also addresses a pressing issue for Christians globally: the misuse of the Lord's name. In an era where Jesus' name is often misrepresented or used casually in media, advertising, and even within church settings, Ben and Simon reflect on the profound implications of honoring the name of Christ. They delve into a personal story involving Simon's grandson, illustrating the importance of teaching the next generation to reverently use the name of Jesus and recognize its power in every aspect of life. Is the casual approach to Jesus' name diluting the reverence it deserves in modern culture?Another critical conversation point in this episode is the increasing presence of corporate titles like “CEO” in church leadership and ministry roles. Are these secular titles compatible with biblical teachings? Ben and Simon question whether modern, business-like structures in the Church have overshadowed the original teachings of Christ. This leads to a reflection on how Christian leadership should reflect the heart of Jesus' servanthood rather than corporate agendas. They explore how humility and service should define Christian leadership, both in the Church and in the broader global community of believers. As the episode progresses, the conversation turns to the fading presence of Christian symbols, particularly the cross, in many modern worship spaces. Have we neglected the central message of the cross in our attempt to fit into cultural trends? Ben and Simon raise the crucial question of whether we've lost focus on the gospel message of salvation through the death and resurrection of Jesus. They urge listeners to return to a Christ-centered faith, where the cross remains a daily symbol of hope, sacrifice, and the redemption found in Jesus Christ alone. The Gospel of John serves as a pivotal point of discussion in this episode. By diving deep into its teachings, Ben and Simon help listeners understand Jesus Christ's divine nature and the centrality of His love and sacriSupport the showhttps://www.pastorbencooper.co.uk/

In this episode of Chorus in the Chaos, Blake and Jack continue their Ten Commandments series with an engaging discussion on the Third Commandment: 'You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.' Often reduced to avoiding profanity, this commandment carries profound implications about reverence, worship, and the weight of our words. We dive into: - The cultural normalization of phrases like 'OMG' and how they impact our reverence for God. - Why professing faith without living it dishonors God's name. - Examples of blasphemy include flippant speech, misuse of Scripture, and irreverent worship. - Biblical wisdom from Exodus 20:7, Titus 1:16, and more. - Practical ways to honor God's name in our everyday lives.   For a limited time, The Chorus in the Chaos listeners get 10% off their purchase at Reformation Heritage Books! Exodus 20:1-17 English Standard Version The Ten Commandments   20 And God spoke all these words, saying, 2 “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. 3 “You shall have no other gods before[a] me. 4 “You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. 5 You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing steadfast love to thousands[b] of those who love me and keep my commandments. 7 “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain. 8 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days you shall labour, and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates. 11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy. 12 “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you. 13 “You shall not murder.[c] 14 “You shall not commit adultery. 15 “You shall not steal. 16 “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbour. 17 “You shall not covet your neighbour's house; you shall not covet your neighbour's wife, or his male servant, or his female servant, or his ox, or his donkey, or anything that is your neighbour's.” Footnotes Exodus 20:3 Or besides Exodus 20:6 Or to the thousandth generation Exodus 20:13 The Hebrew word also covers causing human death through carelessness or negligence

Social media is perplexing to me. I never know what will catch people's attention and take off, for good or for ill. This one took off for ill. The verse literally says not to do it AND that people who do it will be punished. The Lord God above has promised punishment for those who use His name flippantly and vainly. This is serious! Yet for the hundreds of people shouting at me on social media that I was a Karen, no fun, pain in the behind judgmental church lady, the bulk of the comments made me realize most of the people commenting easily believe that taking the Lord's name in vain is a 'respectable sin'. Both actions are a "protest against the servitude of work and the worship of money." In obeying this commandment, we put aside our to-do lists for one day (Guess what? The list will still be there on Monday...), and we enjoy the beauty of creation as we deepen our relationship with God and others. Who doesn't want to take a mini-vacation each week?! Well, God commands it because He knows we need it and that it will make us happy - not just in the next life, but here and now. This podcast is powered by Pinecast.

God makes a very clear command for His people…do NOT misuse my name. God's name is his reputation and a representation of who He is, and it should be spoken with great reverence and honor. However, we use God's name now in punchlines and texts when we are upset. We use His name as a curse, along with wrongfully swearing on His name to prove a point. How can we change this and bring back proper honor and fear when we speak, type, or text His name?

When you hear the word, "God" what do you think of? The chances are high that whatever comes to your mind is probably related to your experience with people, and a lot of times people fail at representing God. The 3rd commandment found in the book of Exodus, "Do not take the Lord's name in vain." - is not a command about language or things you shouldn't say. It's a command to represent God in the way you live your life. That's a much higher calling and standard than avoiding cussing. It has to do with how you live your life if you call yourself a follower of God.Taking God's Name in Vain (Worship and Message) | Sandals ChurchLike, subscribe, and leave us a comment.Do you have questions, need prayer or want to get connected? By Greg Thomas in Cleveland, OH - December 3, 2022 - We correctly understand that this commandment states we should never trivialize God's name by casually looking at it as being insignificant. We should never use it to advance negative purposes, or use God's name thoughtlessly in worship. We should never connect God's name with profanity or blasphemy, and this would include euphemisms. Whenever we utter the name or title of God it should always be with deep respect and reverence.  There are two ways that an individual can take the name of the Lord God in vain. We are all familiar with spoken or verbal violations of this command. However, this commandment can also be violated by our conduct. Most people don't realize this. Let's look at some examples in the Sermon today.
