Lesson of the Day 184 - The Name Of God Is My Inheritance with Jubi

LESSON 184The Name Of God Is My Inheritance. You live by symbols. You have made up names for everything you see. Each one becomes a separate entity, identified by its own name. By this you carve it out of unity. By this you designate its special attributes, and set it off from other things by emphasizing space surrounding it. This space you lay between all things to which you give a different name; all happenings in terms of place and time; all bodies which are greeted by a name. This space you see as setting off all things from one another is the means by which the world's perception is achieved. You see something where nothing is, and see as well nothing where there is unity; a space between all things, between all things and you. Thus do you think that you have given life in separation. By this split you think you are established as a unity which functions with an independent will. What are these names by which the world becomes a series of discrete events, of things ununified, of bodies kept apart and holding bits of mind as separate awarenesses? You gave these names to them, establishing perception as you wished to have perception be. The nameless things were given names, and thus reality was given them as well. For what is named is given meaning and will then be seen as meaningful; a cause of true effect, with consequence inherent in itself. This is the way reality is made by partial vision, purposefully set against the given truth. Its enemy is wholeness. It conceives of little things and looks upon them. And a lack of space, a sense of unity or vision that sees differently, become the threats which it must overcome, conflict with and deny.Yet does this other vision still remain a natural direction for the mind to channel its perception. It is hard to teach the mind a thousand alien names, and thousands more. Yet you believe this is what learning means; its one essential goal by which communication is achieved, and concepts can be meaningfully shared. This is the sum of the inheritance the world bestows. And everyone who learns to think that it is so accepts the signs and symbols that assert the world is real. It is for this they stand. They leave no doubt that what is named is there. It can be seen, as is anticipated. What denies that it is true is but illusion, for it is the ultimate reality. To question it is madness; to accept its presence is the proof of sanity.Such is the teaching of the world. It is a phase of learning everyone who comes must go through. But the sooner he perceives on what it rests, how questionable are its premises, how doubtful its results, the sooner does he question its effects. Learning that stops with what the world would teach stops short of meaning. In its proper place, it serves but as a starting point from which another kind of learning can begin, a new perception can be gained, and all the arbitrary names the world bestows can be withdrawn as they are raised to doubt.Think not you made the world. Illusions, yes! But what is true in earth and Heaven is beyond your naming. When you call upon a brother, it is to his body that you make appeal. His true Identity is hidden from you by what you believe he really is. His body makes response to what you call him, for his mind consents to take the name you give him as his own. And thus his unity is twice denied, for you perceive him separate from you, and he accepts this separate name as his.It would indeed be strange if you were asked to go beyond all symbols of the world, forgetting them forever; yet were asked to take a teaching function. You have need to use the symbols of the world a while. But be you not deceived by them as well. They do not stand for anything at all, and in your practicing it is this thought that will release you from them. They become but means by which you can communicate in ways the world can understand, but which you recognize is not the unity where true communication can be found. Thus what you need are intervals each day in which the learning of the world becomes a transitory phase; a prison house from which you go into the sunlight and forget the darkness. Here you understand the Word, the Name Which God has given you; the one Identity Which all things share; the one acknowledgment of what is true. And then step back to darkness, not because you think it real, but only to proclaim its unreality in terms which still have meaning in the world that darkness rules.Use all the little names and symbols which delineate the world of darkness. Yet accept them not as your reality. The Holy Spirit uses all of them, but He does not forget creation has one Name, one Meaning, and a single Source Which unifies all things within Itself. Use all the names the world bestows on them but for convenience, yet do not forget they share the Name of God along with you.God has no name. And yet His Name becomes the final lesson that all things are one, and at this lesson does all learning end. All names are unified; all space is filled with truth's reflection. Every gap is closed, and separation healed. The Name of God is the inheritance He gave to those who chose the teaching of the world to take the place of Heaven. In our practicing, our purpose is to let our minds accept what God has given as the answer to the pitiful inheritance you made as fitting tribute to the Son He loves. No one can fail who seeks the meaning of the Name of God. Experience must come to supplement the Word. But first you must accept the Name for all reality, and realize the many names you gave its aspects have distorted what you see, but have not interfered with truth at all. One Name we bring into our practicing. One Name we use to unify our sight. And though we use a different name for each awareness of an aspect of God's Son, we understand that they have but one Name, Which He has given them. It is this Name we use in practicing. And through Its use, all foolish separations disappear which kept us blind. And we are given strength to see beyond them. Now our sight is blessed with blessings we can give as we receive.Father, our Name is Yours. In It we are united with all living things, and You Who are their one Creator. What we made and call by many different names is but a shadow we have tried to cast across Your Own Reality. And we are glad and thankful we were wrong. All our mistakes we give to You, that we may be absolved from all effects our errors seemed to have. And we accept the truth You give, in place of every one of them. Your Name is our salvation and escape from what we made. Your Name unites us in the oneness which is our inheritance and peace. Amen.- Jesus Christ in ACIM

This past Sunday, Duncan Smith preached on the sacred and eternal name of God—Yahweh. Often mistranslated as “Jehovah,” this name reveals God's self-existent nature and His desire for a personal relationship with His people. The name of Jesus, Yeshua, means “Yahweh is salvation,” pointing to the stunning truth that Jesus is Yahweh in the flesh. From the burning bush to the Gospel of John, Scripture reveals that the God who was, is, and is to come has made Himself known—not just as Lord, but as Father.Thank you for watching this video from Catch The Fire Raleigh. 2 mishnayot and a good amount of Gemara! 1 - Administering an oath to one who could testify about a plaintiff, but instead denies that he saw anything - the false-oath-maker would still be exempt from the korban. One who asks a whole congregation to come forward - that's not even an oath. Plus, several other cases where the oath-taking would not be sufficient to make a false oath incur the need to bring a korban. 2 - If one insists one take the stand, but not with the language of oath - the commitment is implicit. But taking an oath in the name of the heavens and earth - no, because they are not in the Name of God. Likewise, cursing in the Name of God needs God's name. Also, the Gemara: The question of whether erasing partials of God's name counts as erasing God's name. Plus, interpretation of verses to God's power, not angels. Plus, the vineyard of Navot. When are the texts talking to God, as compared to referring to something other than God?

What does it mean for God's name to dwell in a temple—when even the highest heavens cannot contain Him? In this episode, we explore part of Solomon's dedication prayer in 1 Kings 8:26–30, where the phrase “the name ” appears 14 times in the chapter. In the prayer, Solomon acknowledges a paradox: though God is infinite and uncontainable, His name—His revealed presence—chooses to dwell in the temple. This invites us into a deep biblical mystery: the name of the Lord is portrayed by Old Testament authors as both distinct from YHWH and yet also identified with Him. TSpecifivially, the name of the Lord (YHWH) is presented as the visible, embodied form of YHWH in the Old Testament. We also discuss the concept of the Tetragrammaton (YHWH)—not just four letters, but signidicance of these four letters as it relates to the presence of God among His people. Then, we trace this idea forward to the New Testament, where in Philippians 2:5–11, Jesus is said to bear "the name above every name." We explore how the Hebrew name Yeshua (Jesus) is built from an abbreviation of YHWH combined with the Hebrew word for salvation (yasha), meaning "The LORD is salvation."From Solomon's temple to Jesus' exaltation, we draw a line between the embodiment of YHWH in human form seen throughout the Old Testament—often presented as the Angel of the Lord—and the incarnation of YHWH in Jesus Christ. We consider whether these manifestations are one and the same, which would effectively point to the pre-incarnate embodiment of YHWH in human form fitting into a human form at the incarnation, much like a hand can be said to fit in a glove. This episode invites you to ponder the mystery of God's name, God's presence, and God's visible form—a mystery that culminates in Jesus, the Word made flesh. Though we acknowledge this is not a doctrine to be grasped with technical precision, it is a divine mystery that reveals the triune nature of God in both Old and New Testaments.Key Passages:1 Kings 8:26-30-53Examples of passages that use "Angel of the Lord (YHWH)" and "The Lord (YHWH)" interchangably, either explicitly or implicity - Exodus 3:1-14; Judges 6:11-24Short video explaining the etymology and pronounciation of YHWH - the tratgrammatron.Explainer Video on how to use www.biblehub.com and www.blueletterbible.orgLeave us a question or comment at our website podcast page.* Intro Music: "Admirable" Carlos Herrera Music

When we say the name “God”, have we assumed too quickly that we know what we mean? We use that word quite regularly, without much strain or prolonged consideration, as if the meaning of the word were self-evident. But what if you had to explain – indeed, translate – the word “God” into a language that had no such concept? That would force you, I think, to really reckon with what you mean and what you assume when you use that word: the name, “God”. That is not merely an intellectual exercise; that was in fact the experience of the 16th and 17th Century Jesuit missionary, Matteo Ricci. His primary mission was to China, where he strove to bring and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ to those who often had not only a different language but also a different imaginary landscape than that which European Christians were accustomed to.In our episode today, the eminent scholar of the Sino-Western Exchange, Professor Anthony Clark, talks with me about Matteo Ricci, evangelization, inculturation, and the legacy of dialogue. Anthony Clark is Professor of Chinese History at Whitworth University, where he also holds the Edward B. O brother! The name of God is of astonishing power. (But this name) the Lord Himself makes it heard (to a fortunate person). In this life full of conflicts, that person attains the name of God who remains in the presence of the Guru. 1. Stay.O brother! It cannot be told at what price the name of God can be obtained and how powerful this name is. Those people who have fixed their mind on the name of God are the fortunate ones. The person who accepts the advice of the Guru who never gets tired, that person constantly establishes the thought of the qualities of the Lord (within himself). But the Lord gives this thought only to the one on whom He Himself bestows. 1.O brother! We do every work of our lives only with the support of ego, (so when we think about it in our) mind (with wheat), then because of this ego, we are completely foolish. This ego can be removed (from within us) only by the grace of the Guru. (The Guru also unites) him on whom the Lord Himself bestows His grace. 2.(O brother! This worldly wealth of Maya (creates) great ego (in the mind of man). And, a man who remains immersed in ego does not attain respect (in the presence of the Lord). O brother! Leaving aside ego, one always remains in spiritual bliss. O brother! I, taking the advice of the Guru, keep praising and glorifying that ever-lasting Lord. 3.O brother! That Creator Himself creates (the entire creation); apart from Him there is no other (with such a state). The man whom the Creator connects (with His) ever-lasting Name, that man appears (in the remembrance of the Name). O Nanak! The person who meditates on the Name always remains in spiritual bliss (both in this world and) in the next world. 4.8.

He acknowledges God's greatness, His covenant faithfulness, and His nearness to hear from heaven. As he prays over seven specific situations, Solomon repeatedly emphasizes confessing and knowing God's name as the key to answered prayer. Whether seeking justice, restoration, guidance, or deliverance, he demonstrates that God's response is tied to a reverence for His name. His prayer culminates in God's visible glory filling the Temple, affirming that He hears and answers when His people call upon Him. Day 29: Knowing the Name of God (2025)

We can learn a lot about the nature of God from his Divine Name revealed in Scripture. When God said to Moses, “I am who I am,” this was a revelation of a name as well as a refusal of a name. Fr. Mike explains how this mystery reveals truths about God: he is infinitely above all things; we cannot comprehend him, yet he draws close to us. This Divine Name expresses the steadfast, faithful, unchanging love of God for his people, even when we betray and abandon him. Today's readings are Catechism paragraphs 205-211. This episode has been found to be in conformity with the Catechism by the Institute on the Catechism, under the Subcommittee on the Catechism, USCCB. In this podventure, we discuss the episode “The Vow,” in which Jessie sets Donna down the path of anxiety over her parents' relationship after they take the ‘first step' towards divorce. When Donna walks in on her parents arguing, she and Jimmy decide to join forces in convincing their parents to sign a contract stating that they will never separate while Donna is in D.C. with her dad and Jimmy is at home with his mom. But what they don't know is that, in a way, her parents already have signed a contract. A contract before God. Also, romantically charged arguments, leaning on the fourth wall, and correlation does not equal causation.

Everything we do should be done for God's glory, so it should be done in a godly manner. No matter how great of a task you may accomplish, if it is not done in love, it does not glorify God. We should not view our accomplishments as a way to earn recognition for ourselves, but rather as a way to bring glory to God.

Renewing Your Mind Minute with R.C. Sproul
