POPULARITY
Lisa and I continue our conversation on grandparenting. I consider the baleful ubiquity of psy-ops, and encourage more uncertainty. We look at Jacob's blessing over Joseph, the woman who touched Jesus' cloak, and why it would be wrong for God not to be filled with pride.
In this concluding episode of their five-part series, David and Gene explore the final 22 sayings of the Gospel of Thomas (93-114), revealing the text's most profound mysteries about spiritual transformation and divine realization. These culminating teachings address the protection of sacred wisdom ("pearls before swine"), the gradual process of inner transformation symbolized by yeast working through dough and hidden treasure requiring patient excavation, all of which support the ultimate goal of uniting the dual aspects of consciousness in the alchemical "Sacred Marriage."The hosts delve into Jesus's radical redefinition of kinship in spiritual rather than biological terms, the three Gnostic worlds of Spirit, Soul, and Matter that require different navigational approaches, and the esoteric meaning behind traditional spiritual practices like prayer and fasting. They examine the provocative final saying about Mary Magdalene needing to become "male," as representing the need for integration of analytical and intuitive faculties into divine wholeness - and how the saying speaks to the tension between orthodox (Peter) and esoteric (Mary) interpretations of spiritual truth.Other concepts discussed include:the door of consciousness that opens from within through persistent spiritual "knocking,"the distinction between those who seek firsthand Gnosis versus blind obedience (the "black sheep" who wanders away from the flock),and the intimate spiritual communion described as "drinking from Jesus's mouth."The episode culminates with the hosts' realization that the Gospel of Thomas presents the most revolutionary concept in Gnostic literature: that achieving Gnosis is itself the divine pattern - a fractal process where God comes to know Himself through human self-discovery, making each individual's spiritual journey a unique cosmic contribution requiring active practice rather than passive study.Deep Dive:The Gospel of ThomasChapters:01:15 Introduction01:52 Sayings 93-9507:19 Sayings 96-9812:41 Sayings 99-10117:28 Sayings 102-10421:05 Sayings 105-10726:26 Sayings 108-11030:25 Sayings 111-11441:55 ConclusionsResources:The Gospel of Thomas (history and various translations - Gnosis.org)Gospel of Thomas (Patterson and Robinson translation)Gnosis.org - The Gnosis ArchiveThe Nag Hammadi ScripturesCreative Evolution by Henri BergsonThe Exegesis of Philip K. Lisa and I begin a conversation on the blessings and challenges of grandparenting. I consider how the former president's cognitive failures are mirrored in our own. We look at Jacob's blessing of his two grandsons, Ephraim and Manassah. Finally, we consider how BF Skinner's behaviorism is absurd in itself.
Lisa shares lessons learned from watching Job's wife in the midst of Job's ordeals. I consider the dangers of anonymous social media accounts in light of the latest from G3. Israel settles in the land of Goshen; Abraham buys a burial plot for Sarah and how worship should be a party.
Lisa and I conclude our conversation on praying with and for one another. I gently consider the faux pas of the G3 conferences VIP experience. Jacob and the family make their way to Goshen and the importance of recognizing the context of evangelism doesn't change- it's about sinners being reconciled to the living God.
Lisa and I continue our discussion on praying with and for each other. I give my two cents explaining Shedeur Sanders plight in the NFL draft. We consider Joseph's revealing himself to his brothers, the little dab we needed back in the day and the fierceness of our warrior God.
Lisa and I continue our conversation on praying for one another. I consider how we must fight the Lord's battles the Lord's way in our culture wars. We remember Joseph feasting with his brothers, seek ministry partners and rejoice that our Lord reigns and is coming again in power and glory.
Lisa and I begin a new series on prayer, highlighting the importance of praying together. I consider the bubble that is the stock market. We look at Jacob and his sons dealing with Jospeh's tricks, Abraham and Isaac on Mount Moriah and the blessings of liberty.
What is the Sacred Marriage within and more importantly how can we actually embody this? Let's look at the reality of integrating opposing aspects of ourselves such as the conscious and unconscious parts of our Psyche.
Lisa and I speak well of speaking well. I explore what it means that an elder must be above reproach. Finally, I remember Disney's spate of live action kid comedy films of the 1970s.
In this episode, David and Gene continue their discussion of the Gospel of Thomas, exploring sayings 47-69 of this profound and mysterious Gnostic text. The sayings it contains offer timeless insights into the spiritual path, providing guidance for those striving to transcend material attachments and awaken to higher consciousness.Building on their previous discussions, they delve deeper into the themes of spiritual unity, overcoming duality, and the transformative nature of self-realization.Their discussion begins with Saying 47, which uses a variety of vivid metaphors to illustrate the need for overcoming the dualities within ourselves and the means by which we can reconcile old cognitive frameworks with new spiritual truths. Sayings 48-49 emphasize achieving harmony within oneself and creating an internal sacred space for introspection. David and Gene interpret these teachings as a call to overcome internal duality and embrace wholeness, drawing parallels to esoteric traditions like the "Sacred Marriage" and Jungian individuation.Sayings 50-52 delve into the origins of light in the Gnostic tradition, the cyclical nature of existence, and esoteric meaning of "death" and "resurrection." The hosts unpack these teachings with references to Gnostic cosmology, emphasizing the importance of inner awareness over external rituals or authorities. The discussion continues with Sayings 53-55, which contrast external religious practices with inner spiritual work. Themes of detachment from societal conditioning and cultivating spiritual poverty emerge as essential steps toward true enlightenment.Sayings 56-58 explore the transient nature of the material world, the value of struggle in spiritual growth, and the importance of discernment in timing one's personal transformation. The episode concludes with Sayings 59-69, which address the urgency of seeking truth, protecting one's spiritual vitality from lower distractions, recognizing true authority, and maintaining connection with divine wisdom despite worldly persecution. Throughout their discussion, David and Gene attempt to bring clarity to these ancient teachings, revealing how they speak directly to the modern seeker's quest for self-knowledge. Lisa and I discuss how the tongue can build up others when used rightly, giving encouragement and wisdom from the Word. I explore the meaning of renewing our minds. We consider Joseph's brothers acknowledging that they are in trouble because of their sin against Joseph. Plus, the fullness of Abraham's children.
In his powerful message based on the letter to the church in Philadelphia from the book of Revelation, Pastor Gary Thomas emphasizes the strength and reward found in perseverance. Highlighting Christ's words, “You have kept my word and have not denied my name,” Pastor Gary encourages believers to remain faithful amidst trials, reminding them that endurance is not about perfection, but about steadfast commitment to God. He draws attention to the open door that no one can shut—God's promise to those who hold on, even with little strength. Through this message, Pastor Gary inspires the church to cling to their faith, assuring them that perseverance in the face of hardship leads to eternal victory and divine affirmation.
Lisa and I continue our conversation on sins of the tongue, today looking at slander. I explore how we have lost our minds in our discourse, and how we might find them again. We look at Joseph's first reunion with his brothers, and the temptations to listen to the voices of others, whether they are cheering or jeering us on.
Equinox comes on Thursday like an invitation from life to celebrate our soul-spirit nature while Venus helps us know how this mystery lives in the heart.
Lisa and I continue our discussion on sins of the tongue, covering today backbiting. I explain why in vitro fertilization is both alike and different from abortion, explore Joseph feeding those in need and examine our call to love the Giver of every good gift, and not just the gifts.
Lisa and I continue our series on the sins of the tongue, looking today at excessive words. I consider the limits of war and the value of human life. We examine how Joseph is a type of Christ, how Abraham should have asked God before making a treaty with the Philistines. Finally, the folly of our hunger for fame.
Lisa and I begin a new series on the sins of the tongue, today the lying tongue. I defend my view that DOGE rebates are unwise, and my conservative bona fides. We consider Pharoah's dreams and the great miracle the paralytic recieved. Finally, we look at the God of our Fathers.
Why do many relationships seem doomed to fail despite initial love and commitment? Why are more and more people waiting to get married? Lisa and I conclude our conversation on spiritual mothering. I consider how much leftist thinking permeates the dissident right. We admire the patience of Joseph as he undergoes trials. We remember the CB craze of the 70s and consider our calling to reflect the glory of God.

Lisa and I continue our conversation on spiritual mothering. I consider how helpless the church becomes when it follows the whims of the world, explore Joseph's response to Potiphar's wife, seek out ministry partners and consider the good and the bad of conviction and compromise.
Lisa and I continue to discuss the blessings of spiritual mothers. I warn of the dangers of tariffs and the folly of trade deficits, remember God's promises to Hagar for Ishmael and consider what it means to be a child at 59 years old.
Lisa and I start a new subseries discussing the beauty of spiritual mothering. I caution about President Trumps many Executive Orders, unpack Tamar's revenge against Judah, recount the sending of the demons into the swine and contemplate the mystery of mothering the Messiah.
Lisa and I consider the wisdom of looking forward as God promises new beginnings. I seek to temper expectations for the Trump presidency. We look at parallels between Joseph and Jesus and we expose the folly of seeing Jesus as a means to any end.

I have some big news that I just announced on Instagram—I'm engaged! But before I share the story, I want to discuss something we all face: change. A year ago, I was navigating heartbreak, clinging to the verse in Ecclesiastes: “There is a season for everything.” Life is full of seasons—singleness, relationship struggles, and joyful moments—and each one has a purpose. In this episode, I talk about how I've learned the importance of staying present and letting God work in the here and now instead of longing for the past or rushing into the future. Also, the book I mentioned is Sacred Marriage by Gary Thomas
I give thanks for 8 years with Lisa. I explore the destructiveness of tariffs. In Month of Sundays we look at Jacob favoring Joseph; in In the Beginning we consider God opening Sarah's womb. And finally, we explore the folly of turning Jesus into a means.
I consider the importance of repentance and forgiveness in marriage, encourage us to rest in Christ's reign in the coming days of unrest, ponder the sins of Jacob, Laban and Rachel as they separate, recount the ministry we've accomplished this year and remember our call to steward God's creation.
Lisa and I conclude our series on perseverence in the face of trials. I consider the scariest thing about the promises made by both presidential candidates, Laban getting outsmarted by Jacob, the free wheeling 70s and the dreaded dangers of JARTs, plus, what is necessary for true gospel unity.
I give thanks for eight years of marriage to Lisa. I bemoan a world without reason, where affirmations need no evidence, puzzle over Rachel and Leah bartering over Jacob, see Abraham repeat an earlier sin and rejoice over the immutability of God.
Lisa and I discuss persevering through gossip. I affirm that hurricanes are controlled, puzzle over Jacob's marriage to Leah and Jesus' comment that we should let the dead bury the dead. We conclude by comparing and contrasting the Greek notion of fate, and the Biblical affirmation of God's absolute sovereignty.
Lisa and I begin our conversation on persevering in marriage. I make my argument against Pete Rose, while affirming my admiration of him, consider the parallels between Isaac's and Jacob's courtships, and Jesus securing His bride and consider how Michaelangelo got David right, and where he got him wrong.
I received a message from someone asking me to share what a godly wife looks like and in this episode we are diving into exactly what Scripture says. I pray it's helpful and would love for you to send to all of your friends so they can be encouraged in this area too. ___________________________________ Episode Resources: If you're looking to grow in your Christian walk amongst other women, join my free Bible Study community To get on the waitlist for the 2025 launch of The Finding Freedom Co. Lisa and I discuss our call to persevere in marriage even in hardship. I consider all we don't need to consider in the face of a scandal, Jacob's meeting with God, kid's conveyances of the 70s and the foolishness of the devil.
I praise Lisa for beautifying our home, and encourage others to do the same. I consider how lies have consequences in the public square, Jacob receiving another blessing from Isaac, the consequences of Lot's failures and the devil's bargain with relativism.
Lisa and I glean lessons from another season of farming. Remembering James Earl Jones, baseball and Field of Dreams. Month of Sundays looks at Isaac and Esau after the sting. Good News reminds us of the cost of discipleship and finally, the humiliation and exaltation of Jesus.
Lisa and I discuss Sovereign Grace Fellowships new meeting place, and upcoming Dunamis events. I consider how Democratic policy points destroy democracy, the difficulty of Rebekah's and Jacob's deciet toward Isaac, how the feds over reached in the 70s and our dystopian life in a Brave New World.
Gary Thomas is a renowned author with a passion for helping people grow closer to Jesus and others, having written over 20 books. Gary Thomas has been on my wish list for quite some time! His books have helped me have a better marriage. Husbands and wives stumble in many ways and sometimes we have struggles with toxic people. Gary says, "All toxic people are difficult, but not every difficult person is toxic." Today we talk about how to cherish our wife, toxic relationships, expectations and of course Biblical wisdom on how to live our lives well. When should I walk away from a toxic person and what are some permissible boundaries I can have with family members? How do I know God is speaking to me? Did you promise to Cherish your wife on your wedding day? If so, have you thought about what that means? Why should we have Qualitative goals for our marriage vs Quantitive goals? What can church do for us and what can we do for the church? Are you looking for something more out of life OR want to email a comment about the podcast? If so, email me.
