This week's guest is the one and only Peter Serafinowicz. Bringing with him no scars and seemingly no idea what the format of the show was, we had no choice but to simply absorb his stream of consciousness. Peter is known for his appearances in Shaun of The Dead, Guardians of The Galaxy and Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace. He's also the creator of Look Around You, the man behind Brian Butterfield, and the star of The Tick. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the mind of Peter Serafinowicz. Based on the hugely successful Scarred for Life books, this is a weekly exploration of the things that scared people growing up and what those things say about us today. Join Andy Bush and Dave Lawrence as each week they talk to a special guest who brings with them three terrors from their childhoods. This week's Dish is packed with laughter as Angela and Nick are joined by a man of many talents. Peter Serafinowicz is an actor, director, comedian and screenwriter who came to Dish armed with one of our longest ever list of food likes and dislikes. Serafinowicz, born in Liverpool, has made a big impression on TV viewers this year with his role as property developer Johannes in Amandaland. He's also the host of the Netflix gameshow Million Dollar Secret, where an undercover millionaire has to hide in plain sight.  Peter's substantial acting and TV credits are equal to his food likes list, with roles on both sides of the Atlantic in Parks and Recreation, The Simpsons, Star Wars, The Tick and, most famously, The Peter Serafinowicz Show, packed full of sketch comedy. He's an excellent impressionist and is starting to spend more time live on stage, touring the UK in 2024 with his character Brian Butterfield.  As ever, Angela hits the mark, serving Peter BLT pasta. The Waitrose wine experts suggest pairing it with Jip Jip Rocks Shiraz, while in this episode, Peter, Nick and Angela enjoy a glass of Equinox Kombucha. The Dish table is all the richer for Peter's humour, as the trio discuss his desire to be a pasta-shape designer, the fussiness of Come Dine with Me contestants and his love of mashed potato, all topped off with a great impression.  Side notes:  We are doing a live episode in Sheffield! On Friday 4 July, Dish will be at The Crucible Theatre at Crossed Wires Festival. Nick and Angela will be joined by a special guest for their second ever live show. Tickets are available now at crossedwires.live. You can watch full episodes of Dish on YouTube  All recipes from this podcast can be found at waitrose.com/dishrecipes A transcript for this episode can be found at waitrose.com/dish We can't all have a Michelin star chef in the kitchen, but you can ask Angela for help.  Send your dilemmas to dish@waitrose.co.uk and she'll try to answer them in a future episode. Dish from Waitrose is made by Cold Glass Productions.

#537 New York Ticks and Cockroaches - He loved it so much last week that he came back a week later to do it again. A second interview with the very relaxed Peter Serafinowicz. This time they talk about his film and TV work in America, how getting the dream job of playing The Tick turned into a filming nightmare, general indifference to appearing in the greatest ever episode of Rick and Morty, screwing up your lines in front of of Keanu Reeves' beautiful face and working with Michael Caine and wondering if you can talk about the impression you do of him. Plus why the Beatles song A Day in the Life needed to be much longer (listen here https://soundcloud.com/bren-murphy/a-full-day-in-the-life-by-peter-serafinowicz), why some accents are difficult even for Peter (not for Richard though) and both men's not fully positive experiences of Camp America.Buy Peter's Brian Butterfield book here - https://brianbutterfield.limitedrun.com/products/807187-theres-no-business-like-businessSee a live recording of RHLSTP - https://richardherring.com/rhlstpSUPPORT THE SHOW!Watch our TWITCH CHANNELSee extra content at our WEBSITE Become a member at https://plus.acast.com/s/rhlstp. Flight Through Entirety: A Doctor Who Podcast

This week, a bone Vervoid joins in the fun as we travel back in time to Wales in 2015 pretending to be Scotland in 1980 pretending to be somewhere in the Soviet Union. And it's hard to say which time paradox is the most annoying, the bootstrap one or the predestination one. Thank goodness Frazer Gregory is here to help us sort it all out — it's Before the Flood. Notes and links Like Steven B in our episode on Flatline, Frazer uses the Christopher Nolan film The Prestige (2006) as a way of understanding what Toby Whithouse is doing by setting up the bootstrap paradox at the start of this episode — it's a magic trick. Likewise, Frazer compares this story's unresolved conclusion with the way that the Season 9 episode of The Simpsons Das Bus throws its ending away with a hilarious voiceover from James Earl Jones. El Sandifer refers to the Fisher King as a Bone Vervoid in her TARDIS Eruditorum essay on this story. Bone Vervoid. Warning: she is considerably less kind to these two episodes than we have been. Of course, A Long Tradition of Doctor Who Monsters That in Some Way Resemble Human Genitalia is the title of Flight Through Entirety Episode 168, and it refers to Human Dalek Sec in Evolution of the Daleks. It is currently the record-holder as the longest title of any episode of Flight Through Entirety. We refer to some of Peter Serafinowicz's earlier work, including his role as the voice of Darth Maul in The Phantom Menace (1999), In 2002, he appeared in Look Around You, a spoof of educational science programmes for schoolchildren. And in 2007, he appeared in his own sketch comedy show on BBC Two, The Peter Serafinowicz Show, which introduced his character Brian Butterfield, who he continues to play on tour this year. The Butterfield Diet Plan is a must see. Picks of the week James Fans of weird time paradoxes will also enjoy Douglas Adams's Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency (1987), which, through a time paradox of its own, was the inspiration for Adams's own Doctor Who stories, City of Death (1979) and Shada (1979, but in a nearby parallel universe). Peter Fans of weird time paradoxes will also enjoy the Sex in the City sequel TV series And Just Like That. Nathan Nathan picks the podcast Strong Songs, where enthusiastic and talented musician Kirk Hamilton analyses the music that he loves, in order to discover what it is that makes it great. Highly recommended. Frazer Like Nathan two weeks ago, Frazer recommends that you watch the wonderful new Star Trek series Strange New Worlds, which finished its second series earlier this year. Follow us Nathan is on ex-Twitter as @nathanbottomley, James is @ohjamessellwood,and Frazer is @FelixFrazer. The Flight Through Entirety theme was arranged by Cameron Lam. You can follow the podcast on X at @FTEpodcast. We're also on Facebook, Mastodon, and Bluesky, and you can check out our website at flightthroughentirety.com. Please consider rating or reviewing us on Apple Podcasts, or we'll turn up at your place in the middle of the night with a Fender Stratocaster to explain the paradox of entailment. And more Jodie into Terror was our flashcast on every episode of the Whittaker era, recorded just a couple of days after the broadcast of the episode. Bondfinger is our James Bond commentary podcast, which also covers some of our favourite spy-fi TV shows of the sixties and seventies. Maximum Power is a podcast about Blakes 7, a co-production with the Trap One Podcast. It's on hiatus right now, but it will be returning with our coverage of Series C some time next month, we think. And finally, there's our Star Trek commentary podcast, Untitled Star Trek Project, featuring Nathan and friend-of-the-podcast Joe Ford. In our most recent episode, we watch a credible and highly-regarded episode of The Original Series with a monster in it that makes that hydra thing in Time-Flight look horrifyingly realistic.

Have you ever sat in the stand and wonder how does one become a first base coach in the major leagues and what the heck does a first base coach do on a major league team. Does he just stand next to first base to collect the batter’s armor? According to Wikipedia "Stationed in designated coaches' boxes near first and third base, they are appropriately named base coaches—individually, first base coach and third base coach. They assist in the direction of baserunners, help prevent pickoffs, and relay signals sent from the manager in the dugout to runners and batters." The first base coach is so much more than this. For me the first base coach was one of the most encouraging coaches on the staff. Every team I played for the base coaches were my biggest fans. Whether it was the Twins and Jerry White or the Blue Jays and Brian Butterfield these guys were my biggest cheerleaders. Tommy Watkins is one of these guys for the Twins. After playing 10 years in the minor he got he first chance to play major league baseball when he got called up August 8, 2007. His first MLB game was in Kansas CIty. Once again according to Wikipedia "Red Wings Manager Stan Cliburn stated that Watkins' promotion to the big leagues "was one of the most emotional call-ups [he had] ever been involved with." The announcement "set off a joyous celebration in the clubhouse, because of everyone's love, passion and respect for Tommy." His Major League journey as a player ended 14 days later when he suffered an abdominal strain. He went back down to the minors and never came back up. He then become a minor league coach. This is his story........ --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/linklete/support
