On his weekly Chipped Ham & Football podcast, Post-Gazette Steelers insider Brian Batko welcomes New York Post Jets beat writer Brian Costello to figure out what's true and what's not about Aaron Rodgers' tenure with that team, as Steelers GM Omar Khan and coach Mike Tomlin pursue the QB in NFL free agency. Was Rodgers really a distraction for the Jets, as many believe because of his outspoken views beyond football? Or was he a better teammate than he's given credit for in a locker room with names like Davante Adams, Garrett Wilson, Breece Hall and others? And how might he fit in a Steelers locker room that includes stars such as George Pickens, DK Metcalf, Cam Heyward, T.J. Watt and others? Our duo tackles those questions, then ponders the future of former Steelers QB Justin Fields in New York.
Lori is joined by Brian Costello from the New York Post to discuss what the Jets will do at 7 in the draft and who the future quarterback will be.

New York Post's Brian Costello says Aaron Rodgers was too big of a presence in the facility for any coach to gain the control they want for the Jets. Mets' manager Carlos Mendoza says it was big bringing Alonso back because the whole organization wanted him back for the type of person he is and ability to handle New York. Aaron Rodgers has been informed his time with the Jets if over. He will be released a free agent. Brian Costello, Ryan Sampson & Frankie Vittorini react to the news.
Aaron Glenn met with the Jets yesterday, but he doesn't have a deal yet. We do expect that to happen though. Brian Costello put out an article with some potential names for Jets offensive coordinator and Gio is not thrilled with them. We talked about the Jets bringing in another first time head coach and another first time GM. Jerry is here for his first update of the day and starts with Davante Adams talking to Kay Adams about the Washington/Detroit game. The mayor of Philadelphia tried to chant ‘E-A-G-L-E-S', but she failed at that. Shannon Sharpe and Ochocinco talked about Ryan Day and Ohio State. Ichiro is headed to the Hall of Fame, but one voter did not vote for him. CC Sabathia also got in and talked about his career and his ‘home in the Bronx'. The Knicks beat the Nets in Brooklyn. In the final segment of the hour, an 11-year old kid found the 1-of-1 Paul Skenes card.

In the final segment of the hour, an 11-year old kid found the 1-of-1 Paul Skenes card. Hour 2 We talked more about the 11-year old kid who found the Paul Skenes rookie card that's a 1-of-1. A caller told us about Staten Island cable as a kid and how you could get the Spice and Playboy channels. A caller said he had a crush on the pink Power Ranger. Boomer wondered how Barney Ruble was able to get Betty as a wife. Someone mentioned ‘Singled Out' with Jenny McCarthy. We heard from lots of dudes that called about the first time they saw a girl on TV that they had the hots for. Jerry returns for an update and starts with Davante Adams talking to Kay Adams about the Commanders and Jayden Daniels. Mike Francesa had an incident with the trunk of his car crashing down on his head. Kirk Herbstreit talked about why he was emotional after the Ohio State win on Monday night. CC Sabathia talked about being a first ballot Hall of Famer. Ichio talked through a translator about getting in as well. The Knicks beat the Nets in Brooklyn. Shaq thought Candace Parker was dressed as the Pink Panther. The Rangers beat the Senators and we heard Sam Rosen on the call. In the final segment of the hour, Gio said if someone says, ‘between you and me', it better be something big. Hour 3 Phil Simms joins us in his usual Wednesday spot. We talked about Patrick Mahomes getting all the calls from the refs. We talked about the quarterback performances in the divisional games. Phil talked about playing in terrible windy conditions in the playoffs. Phil said of the KC defense, ‘Oh My Gosh'. Phil said ‘there's no Jayden Daniels out there for the Giants this year'. Jerry returns for an update, but first Boomer is dealing with a fellow employee who thinks others see him as a jerk. Ben Johnson was given a hero's welcome when he went into the Bears' facility. Brian Schottenheimer is the leading candidate for the Cowboys job and it's not sitting well with the hosts in Dallas. Jerry Jones is not going to hire somebody that outshines Jerry Jones. Lamar Jackson went over to Mark Andrews after the dropped 2-point conversion to say it's the whole team, not just him. In the final segment of the hour, America is definitely rooting for the Bills over the Chiefs. Hour 4 Overnight producer Mike Fliegelman, a huge Jets fan, tweeted something that Boomer really liked. It was in regards to Lance Newmark, the guy the Jets are likely to hire as GM. He does not seem to be a fan and he explained why. The Jets still don't know what's going on with Aaron Rodgers. Gio wants Aaron Glenn, in his press conference, to say, ‘I know it's a mess here and it's going to be a tough job'. Lance Newmark doesn't know about the bus that is about to drive over him. Boomer thinks Patriots fans must be pumped. They got Mike Vrabel and Josh McDaniels is coming back. And they have Drake Maye to play under these guys. Jerry returns for his final update of the day and starts with Dan Orlovsky apologizing for tweeting people yelling at Lamar and Andrews are losers. Nick Saban was asked if he has any regrets (he does). CC Sabathia became a first ballot Hall of Famer and talked about finding a home in the Bron ...
The Jets have requested an interview with Chiefs assistant GM Mike Borganzi. If he is hired as GM, will Woody Johnson allow him to choose the head coach he wants? Brian Costello of the NY Post feels Aaron Glenn is the leading candidate for the head coaching job. Gio doesn't think that would be a good fit for the Jets.
The Giants are keeping Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll. John Mara is trying something different in going with stability this time around. Ben Johnson is likely going to Jacksonville, so where does that leave Chicago? Jerry returns for his final update of the day, but first we talked about congestion pricing which started today in NYC. Jerry starts with audio of Brian Daboll talking about believing in the people and the process going forward. Aaron Rodgers threw 4 TDs, including his 500th career TD. After the game, Tyreek Hill said, ‘I'm out, bro'. Frank The Tank is not happy with Dolphins ownership. The Lions beat the Vikings last night and took the North and the number one seed in the NFC. Mike Evans had 1,000 yards for the 11th straight season, tying Jerry Rice. Mike McCarthy said he's ‘a winner'. The Jets have requested an interview with Chiefs assistant GM Mike Borganzi. The Moment of The Day: Boomer wants to punch somebody over congestion pricing. In the final segment of the show, if Borganzi is hired as GM, will Woody Johnson allow him to choose the head coach he wants? Brian Costello of the NY Post feels Aaron Glenn is the leading candidate for the head coaching job. Gio doesn't think that would be a good fit for the Jets.
Gio said he unplugs when he's on vacation and doesn't check out the station. He put it on for his ride and heard Juan Soto talk for an hour. E:60 aired an episode on Gunnar Esiason called, ‘Second Wind'. Gio watched it on Christmas eve when it aired live. We talked all about it. C-Lo returns for an update and gives us some examples of people who filled in for the sports minutes. One guy calls himself, ‘Sean Levine, the sports machine'. Chris McMonigle was furious with the Giants win over the Colts. Joe Benigno did not like Brian Costello's Jets article mentioning Matt Nagy as a potential head coach. C-Lo has a clip of Aaron Rodgers and Jeff Ulbrich and wonders which one is lying more. Joe Burrow talked about the Bengals letting great players leave the building. Boomer said the top coaching candidates will be Mike Vrabel and Ben Johnson. The Jets need a guy like Jon Gruden, Vrabel or Brian Flores according to Boomer. Ben Johnson's personality won't fit here and there's no way he would choose the Jets. In the final segment of the hour, congestion pricing goes into effect this coming Monday.
Hour 1 Boomer & Gio are back today after a long vacation. We are starting year 8 of Boomer & Gio. Boomer is sick of people saying, ‘my bad' when mistakes are made. We talked about the terror attack in New Orleans. Gio is ‘fully activated' with the Vikings playing the Lions Sunday night for the NFC North title and the number one seed. Boomer talked about the Giants future with Sam Darnold at QB and Brian Flores as the head coach, if they fire Brian Daboll. C-Lo is in for Jerry today and is here for his first update and starts with the Knicks win over Utah. Saquon Barkley will not play this week against the Giants and Saquon reacted to that. In the final segment of the hour, we talked about Brian Daboll's future with the Giants. Boomer said if the Falcons had hired Bill Belichick, they would be going to the Super Bowl. Hour 2 We were talking about the NFL and somehow got on Puka Nacua being unstoppable. We also talked about Tee Higgins and contracts for wide receivers. Boomer said Tee Higgins should sign elsewhere for more money and Davante Adams should go to the Bengals. Many Jets players were checked out during the Bills game from Sunday. Gio said Aaron Rodgers is more of a symbol than a quarterback at this point and he has to go. The Jets are interviewing Ron Rivera today and Gio said they can't hire a head coach before hiring a GM. Mike Vrabel seems to want the Patriots job. Boomer sees Ben Johnson going to the Bears. Gio has had enough of the Ben Johnson tongue bathing. C-Lo returns for an update, but first Jerry Recco called in. C-Lo starts with a montage of Mike Breen calls from the Knicks win over Utah. We heard sound from some of the college football games from yesterday. The Eagles are resting players against the Giants. Boomer wonders if Saquon is a gold jacket guy because of this season. Aaron Rodgers talked about needing a mental break after the season. In the final segment of the hour, Gio said January 2nd is normally the worst day of the year. Boomer said a polar vortex is coming. We talked about the NFL MVP race and Sam Darnold. And the Vikings are still likely to let him go instead of paying him big money. Hour 3 Gio said he unplugs when he's on vacation and doesn't check out the station. Ben Johnson's personality won't fit here and there's no way he would choose the Jets. In the final segment of the hour, congestion pricing goes into effect this coming Monday. Hour 4 Today we start the eighth year of Boomer & Gio. Ron Rivera is interviewing with the Jets today. They still don't have a GM and whoever it is, they have to bring in an alpha male head coach. The GM can't be the alpha male, the head coach has to be. Boomer doesn't think any of the QBs in the draft will be as good as Jayden Daniels or Bo Nix. We also talked about Sam Darnold and how the Vikings are likely going to let him go because of the salary cap. C-Lo returns for his final update of the day and starts with the sounds of the Knicks beating the Jazz. C-Lo ran down the college football games from yesterday. Brian Daboll was asked about his offense and Mike Kafka. The Colts had the worst game of tackling a ...

Hour 4 - 00:00 - Bleep U Thursday 19:02 - Jets Preview With Brian Costello 31:28 - BMitch And Finlay Faceoff With Jeff Walker & Heard It Here First
Brian Costello of the NY Post did a deep dive into Zach Wilson's career with the Jets. He has never thrown 3 TDs in a game and he's played 30 games for the Jets. Remember how great Mike White was against the Bengals and the Bears? In 30 games Zach Wilson has not come close to either of those performances. Boomer thinks if Zach has a bad first half against the Raiders they will have to do something in the second half. Gio's not so sure about that. Jerry returns for an update but first Gio tells us the Culinary Workers Union is going on strike in Vegas just as the Jets fans head there for the Raiders game. Formula 1 is also racing in the streets in Vegas. Rob Saleh said it's lazy to just blame Zach for the Jets losses. Mike McDaniel was asked about being comfortable being funny. Hal Steinbrenner is interested in all sorts of free agents signing with the Yankees. Brian Cashman said other teams are always trying to take their people. He also said they were ‘pretty f***ing good'. David Stearns met the media and talked about Craig Counsell going to the Cubs instead of the Mets. The Moment of The Day involves testing NYC tap water. In the final segment of the show, we have some bad primetime/stand alone games in the NFL this week starting tomorrow night. There are also strong rumors in Boston that if the Patriots lose to the Colts in Germany then Bill Belichick is out. Gio thinks it will be more respectful than that. They will let him finish out the year and then come to a decision. He also has his sons working on the staff. Commanders seem like a good fit for Belichick. What about the Bears? What about the Chargers? The Sexiest Man Alive issue has an NFL guy on the list: Jason Kelce. The winner was Patrick Dempsey.
Hour 1 Yesterday when Rob Saleh was asked why he continues to play Zach Wilson he pleaded the fifth. Huh?? Last year they played Mike White when Zach was terrible. This year they just keep running Zach out there. Boomer doesn't know if they would be any better with Trevor Siemian as the receivers have dropped a lot of passes. Who is stopping Saleh from moving on from Zach and starting either Boyle or Siemian? Is Aaron Rodgers influencing this decision? Boomer said there is going to be a book about this era of Jets football. The Jets go on the road to Vegas and the Bills. Then they have 3 home games, one against CJ Stroud. It will be interesting to see how he does against the Jets defense. Jerry is here for an update and starts with Rob Saleh talking about Monday night's game. He said it's ‘lazy' to put the loss only on Zach. He is also not considering elevating Trevor Siemian. Aaron Rodgers was on with Pat McAfee and said it will be more than a couple weeks. He said it will be ‘a few fortnights'. Hal Steinbrenner gave his thoughts on the 82-80 season. Hal has talked to current and former players and they all like Aaron Boone. Brian Cashman did a lot of cursing: ‘we're pretty f***ing good'. On being nothing but analytics he said, ‘bulls**t not true'. The Rangers beat Detroit 5-3. In the final segment of the hour, we talked more about Rob Saleh having to play Zach Wilson. Boomer doesn't think there would be much difference with Trevor Siemian or Tim Boyle. Hour 2 Boomer is annoyed that we are out of coffee and somebody screwed up his sports minute. We bring in Christopher, a newer employee who didn't handle the sports minutes properly. We got back to the calls from Jets fans who desperately want a change at quarterback. A caller is afraid the players on defense are going to bolt the minute their contracts expire. Jerry returns for an update but first, former QB Matt McGloin was just voted into a political position in Pennsylvania. Jerry has audio of Joel Sherman vs Brian Cashman. Cashman called it a ‘stupid discussion'. Hal Steinbrenner talked about bunting. Aaron Rodgers talked about throwing on the sidelines just to relieve stress and have some fun. Rob Saleh said he is not considering a quarterback change because it's not all on him. The Rangers beat the Red Wings 5–3. In the final segment of the hour, a caller is mad at Boomer because he is criticizing Zach Wilson when it's the receivers who are not getting separation. Gio cannot believe Jets fans are defending Zach. Hour 3 Gio loves the new fired up Brian Cashman and Hal Steinbrenner that we got talking to the media yesterday. They clearly have a chip on their shoulders. It sounds like they've finally had enough. The Yankees are supposed to be better than everybody every year. Jerry returns for an update but first Gio said the spread on the Cowboys/Giants is 16 ½. Do Giants fans want to win or lose now? Rob Saleh talked about Aaron Rodgers working hard to get back. Rodgers said he still has a lot of work to do. Mike Tomlin was asked if George Pickens is frustrated and how he deals with it and he said ‘it's a pebble in my shoe'. Brian Cashman met the media and Jerry has a montage of all of his curses. Hal is clearly working with Aaron Judge on changes to the Yankees. Why is Craig Counsell regarded as this unbelievable manager when he's won nothing? In the final segment of the hour, Steve Cohen showed his plans for the area surrounding Citi Field that he's calling Metropolitan Park. He still needs approval from Albany and he has a casino in his plans. Do we need another casino? Hour 4 Brian Costello of the NY Post did a deep dive into Zach Wilson's career with the Jets.
