Jerry Goodin, his wife Laura, and daughter Marcia experienced activity that involved almost everything in their home being destroyed by an unseen force that was unstoppable. The case got considerable publicity at the time and attracted investigators--many of whom became eye-witnesses--from the local police and fire department as well as from Ed and Lorraine Warren. Now, before you judge for yourself whether this is a true haunting or not, consider what it would be like to go through what this family went through. Listen, we know it took a couple of weeks, but sometimes these little things called "adulting" and "responsibilities" and "coachella" get in the way of production. Nonetheless, this story is just too good to skip. We're talking about the Lindley Street Haunting. Some people refer to it as the Bridgeport Poltergeist, but it's the same event that took place at 966 Lindley St., in Bridgeport, CT. A listener requested we do tackle this topic and we understand why; There were over 70 credible witnesses to the events. This case not only has flying furniture, floating refrigerators, but most importantly, a talking cat (allegedly). Moreover, it was well documented in police reports. Take a listen to part one. About: Located in the historic seaport city of Bridgeport, Connecticut, the Goodin family began experiencing mysterious knocking on the outside of their home and within their walls. The activity began several years after they adopted their young daughter, Marcia. As time went on the knocking escalated into violent poltergeist activity to the point that, in 1974, the police were called to the home for help. The nation-wide media storm that ensued eventually caught the attention of famed paranormal investigators, Ed and Lorraine Warren, who became involved in this horrifying case. This episode the famous ghost-hunting couple Ed & Lorraine Warren (they of the "Conjuring" movies) come on the scene and try to figure out what's really going on in the Goodin house. New year, new boo’s! We’re bringing it back home for a local ghost story centered in Bridgeport, Connecticut - right in our own backyard. The Goodins moved into their home on Lindley Street hoping for a quiet, family-centered life of peace and normalcy. What they got instead was a chaotic, frightening, and shockingly well-documented situation involving a possible poltergeist, or supernatural being creating intense physical disturbances. In the first part of this story we’ll be discussing the backstory of the Goodins and the first major incident of poltergeist activity at their home on Lindley Street, aptly called “Hell Weekend”. Is this truly, as the book on this case describes it, “The World’s Most Haunted House”? ________________________________________ Connect with us on social media: Facebook: www.facebook.com/aintitscary Twitter: @aintitscary Instagram: @aintitscary Patreon: www.patreon.com/aintitscary ___________________________________________ Thank you to our sponsors: BetterHelp - Special offer for Ain’t it Scary? listeners: Get 10% off your first month at www.betterhelp.com/aintitscary Audible - Get a FREE audiobook and 30-Day Free Trial at www.audibletrial.com/aintitscary BarkBox - Enjoy a FREE month of BarkBox on us when you sign up for a 6 or 12-month BarkBox subscription! In the mid-1970s, a series of purported supernatural events took place in a small, yellow, wooden slatted house in a suburb of Bridgeport, Connecticut. At a time when demonic forces were very much in vogue, the Goodin family were plagued by all manner of phenomena that quickly drew the attention of the national press, along with thousands of curious onlookers. Despite the contemporary fervour that it sparked and the similarities to several other, far more well traversed, supernatural tales such as Amityville in America, or Enfield in the UK, the events that took place in Bridgeport in the mid-70s have, remarkably, managed to slip largely under the radar, cloaked from wider public attention. Less glamorous but no less fantastic, the case of the Lindley Street haunting, officially struck off as a hoax before a swift U-turn by the authorities, remains as one of the most dramatic and well documented cases in the history of the American Supernatural to this day. Some ghost stories are so incredible they push the limits on believability. Fortunately for us - this story, and the persons who experienced and witnessed the events offered documentation. With a large library of data to pull from, William Hall put together a frightening account. Ghost stories are tame compared to what happened at the house on Lindley Street in 1974.
