The calling of the 12 Apostles by Jesus is a pivotal moment in the New Testament, symbolizing the establishment of a new spiritual leadership for the Kingdom of God. Found primarily in the Gospels of Matthew (10:1-4), Mark (3:13-19), and Luke (6:12-16), this event underscores Jesus' authority over all creation and His deliberate choice to entrust His mission to a group of diverse, ordinary men.Key Aspects:The Calling: Jesus prayerfully selects twelve disciples after spending a night in communion with God (Luke 6:12). This decision reflects the significant role these men would play in spreading His message.Their Role: The apostles are given authority to heal diseases, cast out demons, and proclaim the Gospel (Matthew 10:1). This empowerment marks the beginning of their journey as the foundation of the early Church.Symbolism of Twelve: The number twelve is significant, representing the twelve tribes of Israel and symbolizing a new covenant and restoration through Jesus as the Messiah.Asserting Lordship: By calling the apostles and commissioning them with divine authority, Jesus demonstrates His lordship over spiritual and earthly realms. This event foreshadows His ultimate victory over sin and death. The narrative of Jesus' calling and commissioning of the apostles not only highlights His divine authority but also sets the stage for the transformative work of His followers in establishing the Christian faith. We are back! After a bit of an extended break due to yours Drew's visit to Los Angeles for the Open Cup Final, we have returned to find there are 2 games left in a season many people would like to forget. The performance in LA was probably as good as could be expected, with a legit chance to steal the game late on Johnny Russell's foot. Unfortunately once Extra Time started, the limitations of Sporting KC's roster began to show through and the candidly much higher quality of LAFC took advantage. Then Sporting were made to travel to St Louis on 3 days rest for a derby with the Pink Dog Food team, and were predictably short handed. There was a ton of rotation in player quality, and while the performance wasn't exactly poor, a familiar refrain of the team with better players making better plays played out, and SKC took a 2nd consecutive 3-1 defeat. In my distinct hope to find some kind of silver lining, we will discuss what appears to be more competent and improved performances in light of these results, and whether Peter Vermes has actually had one of the better coaching seasons of his career, if one of his poorer as the Chief Soccer Officer. Finally, the Current try to secure some home playoff games, the USMNT's first roster on Mauricio Pochettino is out, and LAFC comes to town for a re-match from that Open Cup final.

Special Prosecutor Erlinda Ocampo Johnson began her opening statements by presenting her case against Alec Baldwin, alleging recklessness on the set of the film "Rust." Johnson's argument centered on Baldwin's failure to adhere to basic firearm safety protocols and his mishandling of the weapon that led to the tragic death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. "The evidence will show that someone who played make-believe with a real gun and violated the cardinal rules of firearm safety is the defendant, Alexander Baldwin," Johnson stated. She informed the jury that Baldwin had requested the "biggest gun" available for the movie and that the firearm was sold to the "Rust" set in "perfect" working order. Johnson emphasized Baldwin's repeated failure to conduct safety checks with the on-set armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, even citing footage of Baldwin during safety training "running around, shooting his gun." Johnson described the critical day Hutchins was shot, highlighting Baldwin's failure to perform a safety check. "You will learn that one of the rounds in that revolver was a real round, and the evidence will show that Ms. Gutierrez then handed the gun to the defendant," Johnson said. "And what you will learn is that, once again, the defendant failed to do a gun safety check with this armorer." Despite Baldwin's emphatic claim that he did not pull the trigger, the prosecution insisted this was not true. Johnson asserted that video footage would show Baldwin using the firearm on set multiple times without any mechanical issues. Additionally, forensic experts from the FBI confirmed the gun's functionality through multiple tests. In contrast, Baldwin's defense, led by attorney Alex Spiro, argued that Baldwin committed no crime. Spiro shifted the focus to how a live bullet ended up on the "Rust" set, stating there was no evidence Baldwin was involved in this mishap or violated gun safety rules. "He was an actor, acting, playing the role of Harland Rust," Spiro said. He explained that the rules of gun safety are different on a movie set, where actors can act in ways that are otherwise dangerous in real life. The defense played the scene from the church where Hutchins was shot, showing Baldwin as Harland Rust being approached by two men pointing guns at him. Spiro described the "Rust" set as relaxed and reassured the jury that Baldwin's gun was deemed "cold" multiple times. "No one had any idea that this venomous, toxic element had been inserted into this magic they were creating," Spiro stated. He placed the blame on the armorer and David Hall, the first assistant director, who was ultimately responsible for on-set safety. Spiro highlighted the division of responsibility on a movie set, arguing that Baldwin's role was to act, not to ensure gun safety. He stressed that Baldwin had no knowledge of the live bullet in the gun. "On a movie set, you're allowed to pull the trigger, so even if he intentionally pulled the trigger, that doesn't make him guilty of homicide," Spiro told the jury. The first witness, Santa Fe Police officer Nicholas LeFleur, testified about the chaotic aftermath of the shooting. LeFleur, the first law enforcement officer on the scene, expressed concerns about witnesses speaking to each other, potentially tainting their statements. He described setting up a crime scene perimeter and instructing Baldwin not to speak to others. However, footage showed Baldwin speaking about the incident, raising questions about whether he defied police orders. Spiro's cross-examination of LeFleur focused on procedural mistakes, with the officer admitting that "hindsight is 20/20." Baldwin's defense continued to challenge the state's narrative, emphasizing the absence of clear evidence that Baldwin was responsible for the live bullet's presence on set. "This notion of a startup should be centered around the founder is a mindset. It makes for great stories. It makes for great heroes. And that's the reason why that sustains But, you know, there are great organizations that have been built where founders did not believe in that. And the organizations sustain even after the founder leaves."That's what Alok Mittal, founder and MD of Indifi, an online lending platform, had to say about startups getting caught up in the founder-worshipping trap.I hope you have heard my first episode with him. I often ask founders if they believe in the concept of a founder-led organization. Or how they're planning for a post-founder future for their organization. Because like Alok, I do believe that just like a parent's role is to eventually step back and let go of their child, so it is for founders. But that's not easy when we're living in the golden age of founders. Where co-founder tags are coveted much more than CEO titles. It's not easy for many founders to let go. But that was just one of the things that Alok and I discussed in our conversation. Alok, if you didn't know already, is involved in a lot of things. His day job might be MD of Indifi, but he is also the founding board member of Indian Angel Network and co-founder of Plaksha University.Plaksha is a project he has been working on for quite some time and the way it is structured was interesting and something a lot of centers of education should be aiming to build in India as Alok explained:"The notion of departments that exist in educational institutions is not the right architecture. Especially for a country like India, more and more of technology skills have to get expressed as entrepreneurship for it to be relevant to society. I don't think we have another answer for the jobs we need to create or the growth that we need to build. Now, you take all of that, and the question that we are asking is, what does that mean for the university system? And so, for example, at Plaksha, there are no departments. There are these integrated centers of research which are oriented towards a particular problem like climate. But there is no computer science department, there is no mechanical engineering department. There is no mechanical engineering major because we don't think that students will need to be experts at mechanical engineering in a silo to be able to build. So there is a major in autonomous systems, which means robotics, which means drones, which means all of that. Asa Ellerup, the estranged wife of alleged Gilgo Beach serial killer Rex Heuermann, has reaffirmed her belief in her husband's innocence, according to a statement released by her attorney on Wednesday. Heuermann, a former New York architect, faces charges in connection with the murders of four women whose remains were discovered near Gilgo Beach in December 2010. Despite the severity of the accusations, Ellerup maintains her husband's innocence, regularly visiting him in custody. "I will listen to all of the evidence and withhold judgment until the end of trial," Ellerup stated through her attorney, Bob Macedonio. "I have given him the benefit of the doubt, as we all deserve." Expressing sympathy for the victims and their families, Ellerup emphasized her belief in Heuermann's innocence, stating, "Nobody deserves to die in that manner." Heuermann, aged 60, has been charged with the murders of Maureen Brainard-Barnes, Megan Waterman, Amber Costello, and Melissa Barthelemy, all of whom were escorts on Long Island. He pleaded not guilty to these charges. Macedonio explained Ellerup's decision to release a statement, stating that she visited Heuermann several times since the last indictment and wished to reiterate her belief in his innocence. Prosecutors allege that Heuermann's wife and children were out of town when Brainard-Barnes disappeared and was killed, fitting a pattern where Heuermann was allegedly alone when the other three victims were killed. Substantial DNA evidence has been collected in the case since Heuermann's arraignment, including hair found on the belt buckle securing Brainard-Barnes' body, which matched Ellerup's genetic profile. Similar DNA links were found at other crime scenes, involving Heuermann's wife and daughter, who are not considered suspects. Despite these developments, a trial date has not been scheduled for Heuermann, who continues to maintain his innocence. The case has garnered significant attention due to the gruesome nature of the crimes and the subsequent legal proceedings against Heuermann, a father of two who has denied all charges against him. As the investigation continues and legal proceedings unfold, the community awaits further updates on the case, hoping for justice for the victims and closure for their families. On a recent Sunday broadcast of Newsmax's 'Sunday Agenda,' Alina Habba, a key attorney for former President Donald Trump, conveyed a robust assurance to the audience that Trump's team is steadfast in their conviction to overturn a recent New York ruling. The case in question involves a hefty $364 million penalty levied against Trump, accused of "financial fraud" — allegations that Trump and his legal team categorically deny, asserting the charges are baseless and politically motivated. Habba criticized the evident political bias and motivation behind the case, particularly highlighting New York Attorney General Letitia James's (D-NY) anti-Trump campaign. James's tenure has been marked by a relentless pursuit of Trump, a fact that Trump himself has lamented, pointing out her preconceived agenda against him even before taking office. Trump has vocally contested James's actions, describing her efforts as a destructive crusade against New York over a legitimate and fully repaid financial transaction. He has branded her actions as unconstitutional and indicative of a broader attempt to undermine the state through politicized justice.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
