How do you envision the collaboration between super-intelligent AI and humans? What steps should humanity start taking now to prepare for a future where this partnership is a reality? Why do we see the limited things that we see? Are the things we actually see, a mirage? Today's guest Rob Greenlee added to my dad's definition of the meaning of life, a veteran in the world of podcasting and technology. This episode takes us on a journey through the intersections of technology, consciousness, and the future of human interaction with artificial intelligence. Rob shares his transition from marketing in the Florida citrus industry to becoming a frontrunner in digital media, shedding light on how creating content is more about the energy in the moment than the end product itself. We'll explore thought-provoking topics such as the potential of artificial general intelligence (AGI), the truth that may lie in the transitions between extremes, and the fascinating concept of our consciousness existing in a wireless ether. Moreover, Rob discusses the philosophical and ethical implications of technology in our lives, questioning the visibility of aliens and the invisibility technologies, and considering the eerie possibility of AI taking over jobs. Join host Reena Friedman Watts and her father, Wayne Friedman, as they delve into these mind-expanding topics with Rob, reflecting on how these advances might shape our understanding of life, existence, and the unseen forces that govern our world. Rob Greenlee returns to the show. He last appeared back in 2017 just after we did a panel on podcasting at the Conclave in Minneapolis. Rob is someone I hear from every week as he co-hosts the New Media Show with Todd Cochrane. So even though he has not appeared on this show I feel as though I he from him every week.Rob has a new position as SVP of Content and Partnerships. He had been with Libsyn the last three years and with Voxnest and Spreaker before that. The Podcasting Hall of Famer joins me to talk about many of the challenges podcasters are contemplating these days, including getting heads around a video strategy for their podcasts and Podcasting 2.0 which Rob and I tackle in the second half of the show. If you can't get enough of what we are talking about on the show - you can get a weekly delivery of this on the New Media Show where you can get a PhD in Podcasting. We also had an interesting discussion about the role podcasting can play when it comes to Live and local. Can Podcasting take that from radio?A thanks to the people who support the show each week and allow it arrive on your phones for free.Matt Fogarty VoiceoversNLogic: TV & radio advertising and audience data solutionsMegatrax - Licensed Music for your radio station or podcast production company.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

We got such good feedback a few days ago that we decided to test the waters again with another pilot (co-pilot?) episode of The Download. Just in time for Christmas! For one priest, it would be a night that he would never forget. (The Medieval Walking Dead) *** Despite what we are led to believe from movies and television, cemeteries, graveyards, and churchyards, are actually quite peaceful places with no reason to be haunted anymore than any other plot of land. They are, in fact, meant to be resting places – not restless places. Repton Village chuchyard in Derbyshire apparently never received that memo. Which is kind of an odd thing if you think about it – seeing as the man was consumed by thoughts of death. (The Mystery of Death) *** What is it like after we die? Is there life after death? It seemed to have gills or matted hair that looked like gills on its face and head; two yellow eyes leered out from under a prominent forehead. That's the description one witness had for the thing in City Park, New Orleans. (The City Park Thing) *** Anyone who knew the little family before that July day would say that one thing was certain, Vernon Plager loved his wife and daughter more than anything. But then Paul Reed moved to the neighborhood, and it led to more than just a broken marriage… it led to murder. (Wrapped in Ivy) *** The moose is said to be a ghostly white and a giant of stature and weight, antlers bigger than any other moose ever seen. Considered a harbinger of doom, it was first reported in 1891… but has been seen as recently as 2002. Could this giant, ghostly moose at Lobster Lake, North Dakota actually have existed – or still exist? And now, so many decades later, authorities are still at a loss as to who committed the murder. (It Was Just An Ordinary Day) *** What does it feel like to die? We obviously won't know personally until we die ourselves, as it's hard to talk to someone about their experience of dying if they are… well… dead. But Reverend J.T. WEIRD DARKNESS RADIO SHOW: WEEKEND OF MAY 28-30, 2021HOUR ONE: In November 1638, Dorothy Talby killed her three-year-old daughter. She admitted so when first arrested. But then she refused to say anything when brought before a judge. But then, what would you expect from a woman, which we all know is more easily persuaded by Satan to sin – and women were much more likely to be seduced by witchcraft. At least, that's what people believed in the 17th century. (The Case of Dorothy Talbye) *** It's understood and agreed to by most that while it is a lot of fun to think about, time travel is simply not possible – and will probably never be seeing as we've never met any time travelers. But some of the reasons that a child gives for murdering his or her own mother can be downright shocking and unbelievable. (They Murdered Their Mothers) *** For decades, firefighters at the Chicago Fire Department noticed an eerie hand print that left a permanent mark on a casement, which could not be washed, scraped or removed, despite several attempts. Legends circulated, and many believed that the handprint had a rather macabre history, belonging to a fellow firefighter. While you might say it was just a fanciful dream, how do you explain that this girl also woke up with clairvoyant abilities? (The Fairies and Anne Jeffries) *** On 15 July 1910 the Sheffield Evening Telegraph recorded the anniversaries of the day. One particular entry was this: “Prison hulks first seen on the Thames…1776”. But what were the prison hulks, and what was life like on board these ‘floating hells,' as they came to be known? (Floating Hells) *** Depending on whether or not you want to get the scare of your life, you will either want to, or not want to honk your car's horn three times on Burnt Mill Road in the Pine Barrens area of New Jersey. If you do, you risk an encounter with the Atco Ghost. (The Atco Ghost Legend of New Jersey) *** Archaeologists excavating the tomb of an ancient Egyptian queen just discovered something chilling… a 13-foot long scroll – a lost chapter from Egypt's “Book of the Dead”. (The Grim True Story Behind Hansel and Gretel) *** Cultures all around the world have stories of tiny humans – elves, leprechauns, fairies, hobbits… but how can so many different communities have such similar descriptions of tiny people? Could there be evidence to prove the existence of tiny humanoids? (Little Human Subspecies) *** Traveling to the Superstition Mountains in search of the rumored treasure hidden there is not only a bad idea… it could be a fatal one. (Mysterious Visitors From Other Realms) *** Seeing an unidentified flying object in the sky is pretty common – even in cases where several people see the flying whatever-it-is at the same time. But when is the last time you and everyone around you looked up and saw an entire city flying in the sky? That's what happened in 2011 in the Nigerian village of Bauchi. (UFO City) *** But first… according to GPS, off the California coast there are dozens, possibly hundreds of ships moving around in circles. But the ships, while clearly visible on the GPS system, are nowhere to be seen by the human eye. Are these ghost ships from the past? The oceanic version of crop circles? Sadly, one undertaker, Millard F. Rodgers, apparently forgot about the golden rule – and committed gruesome acts against families. (The Black Shuck of Blakeney) *** We have all been guilty of wishing we had more money coming in. Some people go out and get a second job. Others look at what they have to sell online, or look at what skills they have to offer to the public that they could charge money for. (Witchly Accusations) *** If you drink whiskey, or even if you don't, you're likely familiar with “Jameson Irish Whiskey.” But did you know that cannibalism played a part in its history? Parents of indigo children are no different, with some parents thinking their children have psychic abilities. (The Skeleton Factory) *** When you think of a mad scientist you most likely think of Victor Frankenstein – but it's rumored Mary Shelley took inspiration for the character from a real mad scientist by the name of Andrew Ure. (Andrew Ure: A Real Life Mad Scientist) *** The story of Kate Watson is a grim one – living as a prostitute in the Old West, and when that wasn't enough she took up cattle rustling. Her husband wasn't any better. So it's probably no surprise that she was strung up until dead. But maybe you should wait to pass judgement until you hear the whole story. It's been a long week. It started with two familiar foes in conflict with each other. If only they could work together, the sky would be the limit, but one side is so obsessed with the other, that they seem to have lost their own way. Of course I'm talking about radio and podcasting. On Monday, iHeartMedia laid off another bucket of local radio employees. (Edit: More came Thursday.) It's no secret that the radio industry has been hard-hit by the pandemic, and radio revenue is way down. In a vacuum, you can understand the tough decision to have layoffs. In 2020, that's not unique to radio. But consider this. Last week I told you that iHeart just bought Voxnest - rumors have the price tag around $55 million. Voxnest is big in podcast analytics, and also owns the Spreaker platform. Once iHeart filed bankruptcy in the face of its $22 billion debt, it freed them up to re-work their business ventures.Radio's strength has always been its personality -the ability to connect to listeners. And a big part of that is its on air talent. But when a company decides its priority is to invest in podcasting, and keep slashing radio assets, that tells you where their priorities are. I just hope they don't destroy podcasting like they did radio. iHeart owns the most shows in Top 200 podcasts, according to Podcast Business Journal, largely because they pimp them out across their radio network.https://podcastbusinessjournal.com/media-monitors-iheart-is-1/Stitcher launching new app. Instead of Favoriting a show, you'll follow it to subscribe.Magellan's AI Blog tracked the Election, and how the Biden and Trump campaigns utilized podcast advertising. https://www.magellan.ai/blog-posts/how-have-the-presidential-candidates-used-podcast-advertising-in-the-election?utm_source=podnews.net&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=podnews.net:2020-10-30Nielsen has more data about host-read podcast ads being more effective: https://www.nielsen.com/us/en/insights/article/2020/host-read-podcast-ads-pack-a-brand-recall-punch/Finally, two great courses I took this week in my professional development.Tom Kelly from Clean Cut Audio did a "Beginner's Guide to Equalization for Podcast and Voiceover on Udemy: https://www.udemy.com/share/103H9oAEASdFhTR3gJ/Tanner Campbell's "Learn to Edit Your Own Podcast" on AppSumo. https://appsumo.com/learn-edit-your-own-podcast/?utm_source=sendfox&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=this-week-in-podcast-editingBoth courses were very helpful as I work to improve my skills in Compression and Equalization.
My tip this week doesn't explicitly related to podcasting - We are all stressed. Find your escape, and lean into it - especially over the next week or so.I'm recording this on Thursday, the final day of Podcast Movement virtual. While it's impossible to duplicate the in-person excitement of an event like this, the organizers did a great job under the circumstances. A couple additional takeaways:Shante Holley did a nice session, The Gift of Transparency: Fostering Connections with Your Listeners. She talked about being real with your audience when life throws difficulties at you. This will create a bond with your listeners. I can attest to this - when my best friend was killed by a drunk driver in 2006, I went on the radio and talked about it. People called in all night. Be real. It's what made radio great, and why podcasting can be so powerful. Late last week, Rob Walch from Libsyn echoed my sentiments that your podcast doesn't need video. According to Rob, ONLY 14 of the top 50 Aggregator Apps fully support Video, and ZERO of the Top 200 Episodes in Apple Podcasts are Video. (10/18/20)Again, the power of an audio podcast is that it goes where video can't. Still don't believe me?
