Click to Subscribe:  https://bit.ly/Youtube-Subscribe-SoapDirt Bold and the Beautiful sees the character of Taylor Hayes is yet again undergoing a transformation. With the recent recasting of the character, the fate of Taylor Hayes hangs in the balance, which has been a source of speculation among fans. Krista Allen, who played the character for two years, was abruptly written out of the show, leaving fans in a lurch. Now, Rebecca Budig is stepping into the role, a move that has been met with mixed reactions from the CBS soap opera's fan base. B&B sees one red flag raised by fans is the apparent age discrepancy between Budig and the other characters. Budig, who looks noticeably younger, has been a source of disbelief among fans, especially when she shares screen time with Ridge Forrester (Thorsten Kaye), who appears significantly older. The speculation is further fueled by the return of Bridget Forrester (Ashley Jones) which has led some fans to believe Taylor might be written out of the show. Bold and Beautiful official spoilers for the Fall season hint at Taylor's return to Los Angeles for shocking reasons, but there's also speculation about the possible death of her character. This is compounded by Brad Bell's recent remarks about killing off more characters to maintain credibility as a writer. While these are all speculations, and no official spoilers confirm Taylor's possible demise. Is Inappropriate Pulse Timing Responsible for Poor Binaural Hearing with Cochlear Implants?

Link to bioRxiv paper: http://biorxiv.org/cgi/content/short/2023.08.04.551983v1?rss=1 Authors: Schnupp, J. W., Buchholz, S., Buck, A. N., Budig, H. K., Khurana, L., Rosskothen-Kuhl, N. Abstract: Cochlear implants (CIs) have restored enough of a sense of hearing to around one million severely hearing impaired patients to enable speech understanding in quiet. However, several aspects of hearing with CIs remain very poor. This includes a severely limited ability of CI patients to make use of interaural time difference (ITD) cues for spatial hearing and noise reduction. A major cause for this poor ITD sensitivity could be that current clinical devices fail to deliver ITD information in a manner that is accessible to the auditory pathway. CI processors measure the envelopes of incoming sounds and then stimulate the auditory nerve with electrical pulse trains which are amplitude modulated to reflect incoming sound envelopes. The timing of the pulses generated by the devices is largely or entirely independent of the incoming sounds. Consequently, bilateral CIs (biCIs) provide veridical envelope (ENV) ITDs but largely or entirely replace the "fine structure" ITDs that naturally occur in sounds with completely arbitrary electrical pulse timing (PT) ITDs. To assess the extent to which this matters, we devised experiments that measured the sensitivity of deafened rats to precisely and independently controlled PT and ENV ITDs for a variety of different CI pulse rates and envelope shapes. We observed that PT ITDs completely dominate ITD perception, while the sensitivity to ENV ITDs was almost negligible in comparison. This strongly suggests that the confusing yet powerful PT ITDs that contemporary clinical devices deliver to biCI patients may be a major cause of poor binaural hearing outcomes with biCIs. Something I've been noticing on the podcast lately is I'm talking less with guests about what they do and more about how they're doing and what they're up to in life overall. Today's conversation felt like one of those. My guest, Kathryn Budig is an internationally celebrated yoga teacher and author known for her accessibility, humor, and ability to empower her students through her message, "aim true." Her big truth was about finding happiness within the pursuit of success. From there we discussed a variety of ways the pursuit of success makes us unhappy. From pursuing things because we think we "should" to the ways we use social media, seek validation and other forms of self-compromise. We talked about sustaining ourselves vs pushing or hustling and we also explored feeling comfortable in our skin as our bodies change and we go through difference phases, her experience of coming out in a relationship with a woman after her divorce from her husband. To say this one is packed and juicy is an understatement. Enjoy! Kathryn Budig is arguably one of the world's most famous yoga teachers. With an Instagram following of 219,000 (and counting), a past in Hollywood, background in acting, and a conventional "yoga bod," she was driven to disprove the stereotype that often comes with being young, blonde and beautiful. She set out to show the world that her teachings were substantial, spiritual, and meaningful. And she did. In this episode, mindbodygreen's CEO Jason Wachob touches on all the key milestones in Budig's life—the good, the bad, and the ugly. Budig, who is as relatable and authentic as they come even with all her acclaim, did her initial yoga teacher training in LA with Maty Ezraty and Chuck Miller, owners of Yoga Works, and subsequently studied with visionaries such as Seane Corn, who are credited with tastefully shaping yoga practice into the modern Western version we know and love today. After committing to teach yoga full time and moving on from her dream of acting, Budig was ready to leave LA and travel through central Florida for a brief interlude before plopping down in Charleston, South Carolina where she married her now ex-husband. Going through her marriage and divorce in the very public venue of social media left her struggling with anxiety and vertigo, but also fueled a newfound personal and spiritual practice that inspired her book, Aim True. Budig has since started her own wellness and sports podcast with her girlfriend Kate Fagan called Free Cookies, has become a budding public speaker, and has started working on book No. 3 as well as a comedy-based show.
