What is the Christian life really about? Is it prayer, church involvement, ministry, justice, or evangelism? These are all meaningful aspects, but is there something deeper at the heart of it all? In this episode, I reflect on a question my mentor, Chuck Miller, often asked: “What is the Christian life?” His answer offers a profound simplicity—one that shifts our focus from what we do to who we are with. Together, we’ll explore how Jesus as our Good Shepherd transforms our faith from a list of tasks into an ongoing, intimate relationship. If you’ve ever felt like the Christian life is overwhelming, like a growing list of commitments, this conversation is for you. We’ll look at Jesus’ words in John 10, where he calls his sheep by name and leads them out—not just in the past, but in the present moment. You are not alone in this journey of faith. Jesus invites you into his life, guiding you, speaking to you, and walking with you every step of the way. In this episode, we discuss: How shifting our focus from “what” to “who” can transform our faith. The image of Jesus as the Good Shepherd and why it still matters today. Practical ways to listen for and recognize the voice of Jesus in daily life. The massive land grab is paying a few to control the many. It doesn't matter what state we are talking about today the movement is the same. In fact it is global.
After we get past the Bronco's tailgating discussion we get to the abuse of the TABR dollars in Colorado.
This week on The Whiskey Trip, the journey takes us to Culpepper, Virginia, home to one of America's oldest craft distilleries—Belmont Farm Distillery. Big Chief sits down with Founder and Distiller, Chuck Miller. Known from his time on Discovery Channel's Moonshiners, Chuck helped folks like Tim Smith bring their products into the legal market. But Big Chief didn't come for the moonshine—he came to sample the whiskey Chuck has been distilling since 1989, using grain from his own farm. Chuck distills with a historic 1933, 3,000-gallon kettle still, seized from an illicit site by the state of Virginia. They begin the tasting with Belmont Farm's Virginia Bonded Whiskey, aged in used oak barrels to soften the oak influence. Next, they savor the Virginia Reserve 10-year-old whiskey, a cask strength beauty at 116 proof, made from a mash bill of 50% corn, 25% wheat, and 25% malted barley. Big Chief declares this the perfect whiskey for a desert island. Wrapping up the first half, they enjoy a smooth Virginia Bourbon at 92 proof—a testament to Chuck's incredible still. The second half kicks off with an American Single Malt, aged 4 years and bottled at 86 proof. It delivers a sharp taste and a stunning nose, underscoring why these whiskies are making waves. Then comes the Rye Whiskey, crafted from 70% rye, 25% corn, and 5% malted barley, offering that root beer candy note Big Chief loves. To close out, they sample a 100% corn whiskey at 100 proof, with flavors reminiscent of buttered popcorn. This trip was a true highlight, and it was an honor to sit down with a whiskey legend. Cheers to another memorable ride on The Whiskey Trip!

Corporal Oda Charles “Chuck” Miller served as a tank loader and tank commander in World War II. He fought in the Normandy Invasion a week after D-Day, and in the Battle of the Bulge. During World War II, American tanks were inferior to German tanks in almost every way. As a result, serving as a tank crewman was incredibly dangerous. Few made it out alive. Stephen King, in conversation with Richard Wolinsky and Lawrence Davidson, while on tour for The Dead Zone, recorded September 8, 1979 at Dark Carnival Bookstore in Berkeley, and posted in honor of his 75th birthday on September 21, 2022. At the time of this recording, Stephen King had only written a handful of books — Carrie, Salem's Lot, The Shining and the Stand preceding The Dead Zone. There were also two novels under the pseudonym Richard Bachman, which was still a secret at the time. Since then, Stephen King has become a literary institution with over 300 credits for television and film adaptations at IMDb. He also has 64 novels, 11 collections of stories, and 5 non-fiction books. Lupoff, recorded april 4, 1993 while on tour for his novel, “The Throat,” third in a thematic trilogy that included “Koko” and “Mystery.” Peter Straub, who died on September 4th, 2022 at the age of 79, was a master of horror and supernatural fiction whose work erased any distinction between genre and the literary world. Three years after the interview, Peter Straub's novel The Hellfire Club was published to great acclaim, followed in 2001, with Black House, a sequel to The Talisman, written with Stephen King, and four later novels, the last one, A Dark Matter, published in 2010. Myself and most of the people listening to this podcast are well aware of what it's like to buy film cameras and photography gear, but less of us know what it's like to sell it. On this, the 30th episode of the Camerosity Podcast, the gang and I bring on some current and former employees of various camera stores to give us some insight into what it's like on the other side of the counter. From Gene's Camera in South Bend, Indiana, we have owner Jack St. Pierre and regular guest Jon Gilchrist. From Alpine Camera in Des Plaines, Illinois, owner Chuck Miller. From South Florida, former camera store employee of Gold Triangle Department Store is Stephen Grasso, and finally, our own host and former camera store employee and owner, Paul Rybolt share with us stories of how things used to be, and also discuss some of the biggest changes they saw in the industry during their time. Joining our camera store crew are returning callers, Hong Lee, Mark Faulkner, Andrew Smith, Jess Ibarra, and Michael Gossett, and first time callers Andrew Almendarez and Steven Lederman who bring up other interesting topics like whether buying cameras make for good investments, whether lens fungus is contagious, and where the origins are of Kodak film. In addition to all of these exciting discussions, we witnessed the first ever "IN SHOW" purchase where Stephen Grasso buys something from Paul's eBay store! Make sure you listen in and find out what camera it is! As always the topics and discussions on the Camerosity Podcast are entirely up to you. While we make an attempt to have a general idea on how to get a show started, the topics almost always veer off into wild and unexpected directions. If you'd like to ask us a question or wish to hear us discuss your favorite brand of camera or film, consider joining us on our next episode and steer us in that direction! Be sure to look for our next show announcement coming soon, and we will record Episode 31 on Monday, July 25th! Scott Johnson talks to Sarah Powers, a long term teacher of yoga and Buddha Dharma, about her life of contemplative practice and its culmination in her new book 'Lit From Within'. We'd like to invite you to join our growing monthly Stillpoint Yoga community. We teach in-person in London Bridge and live stream online Ashtanga Yoga assisted self practice and guided classes, with weekly yoga clinics and philosophy sessions guided by Scott Johnson and the Stillpoint teaching faculty. We also have a growing library of on-demand content. It's a beautiful way to navigate these times… Also, consider joining our Patreon community. We share these podcasts every 2 weeks and would love your feedback, input and support. You can even join a monthly live call to share your thoughts. Sarah Powers is an author, therapist and co-founder of Insight Yoga Institute. Her work is led by a desire for healing, and over the past 35 years Sarah has explored a number of healing modalities. Her yoga practise began with Ashtanga in the company of Chuck Miller, Maty Ezraty, Tim Miller, and Richard Freeman. There she found a daily ritual, an invitation to explore what changes on the inside, when on the surface things might look the same. In this rich and generous conversation, Sarah shares how a profound experience she had while on retreat with Jack Kornfield deeply impacted her life. She'd been a yoga practitioner for over a decade at that point, but this was the time that it first truly made sense to her. Her previous practise served as a preparation for the Buddhist teachings she encountered. She studied both Theravada and Dzogchen, and saw comparisons with her previous studies in Advaita Vedanta. Sarah believes that underlying the multiplicity of teachers and traditions, they would all agree on the fundamental nature of freedom. Over time, Sarah moved away from teaching Ashtanga yoga and towards a more Yin based approach, but the essence of inquiry that she first found in Ashtanga remains. Now, she combines yoga with mindfulness meditation in her classes, integrating yoga and Buddha Dharma with the intention of introducing beginners to meditation. She is the author of Insight Yoga and her most recent book Lit from Within takes a holistic approach to healing our five experiential centres: the physical, energetic, mental, emotional, and interpersonal realms. You can find out more about Sarah's work here. "This conversation with Sarah is so, so rich. I had wanted to speak to Sarah for a while, for her to expand on her beautiful view and experience on how the Buddha Dharma and yoga traditions blend together. I got so much and more. Sarah's wonderful and insightful way of seeing these practices and then sharing them is visceral and compelling. This conversation will leave you feeling like you've stepped right into the middle of Sarah's world. Full, inviting and so, so rich..." Welcome to the Keen on Yoga Podcast with Angela Jamison. Angela is the founder and director of Ashtanga Yoga Ann Arbor, located in Michigan, USA. She grew up on an isolated farm / intentional community in rural Montana, a remote mountain area of the northern US. From there, she was lucky to receive a scholarship to attend college to study Philosophy and Journalism in Oregon. In the year 2000 Angela discovered ashtanga in Seattle. The primary series helped her to heal from severe intestinal parasites acquired while living in Central America. In 2001 she moved to Los Angeles to attend grad school at UCLA. Soon afterwards she was hit by a car in a crosswalk. This near fatal accident resulted in a day of full body paralysis. Subsequently her commitment to ashtanga to heal from that trauma was firmed. She spent the rest of her 20s studying two very different topics with equal intensity – the sociology of American empire, and the practice of ashtanga yoga. It was a wonderful time and place for ashtanga. Of the many practitioners and teachers who helped her, the strongest influences were Maty Ezraty and Chuck Miller. In addition, their student Heather, now Radha Carlisi. However, Dominic Corigliano is the teacher who most impacted her during that time. He taught her to assist him in 2007. Mysore In 2009, Angela moved to Ann Arbor for a visiting assistant professor position at the university there. In the same year she travelled to Mysore for the first time to study with R Sharath Jois. After strong encouragement from him, she finally left the university and started teaching yoga full time in 2011. She spent her 30s slowly building community and teaching, with 2-4 months each year in India studying the yoga tradition. Sharath gave her his blessing as a certified teacher in 2017. The best preparation she had for directing a shala was working a variety of jobs. Including union organizing, waiting tables, administrative positions at Amnesty International and a library, and teaching undergraduates at UCLA. This background led her to see her work both as directing a school – just as our teachers in India model – and also as a form of community building. Growing up “off the grid” surrounded by survivalists has shaped her idea that ashtanga can be a key resource during times of social upheaval. This is because it helps us cultivate both robust physical health, and robust communities. Thereby allowing us to learn complex forms of empathy and cooperation, which help us in difficult times. Online Covid Impact During Covid, her work has mostly migrated online – to a digital platform students built to facilitate ongoing connection and learning. Dozens of students from the early years of the her work have found their way back to what they call the shadowshala. In addition, new people have found it too. The chance to re-connect with early students who now live around the world, and see people learn to sustain a home practice in the midst of great challenges, has been extremely meaningful. But she is eager to return to the sort of real-live practice that can only happen in a Mysore room with everyone breathing and moving together. You can find out more about Angela on her website.

Welcome back to Intellicast! We have another great episode for you this week. We continue our ongoing discussion on data quality; this time we have Dan Fletcher of Research Defender (formerly SampleChain) and Chuck Miller of DM2. The episode kicks off with a discussion with the guys about the trends they see in the industry around data quality. This covers everything from the shifts in the supply they were seeing over the back half of last year and even in Q1 of 2021 to the increase of data available to help identify potential fraud. This also leads to a discussion of some of the best practices for survey design for mobile devices and what some of the myths versus reality are in terms of best practices. The conversation then turns to where Dan and the team at Research Defender are currently seeing an uptick in fraud traffic come from. The guys then switch gears and discuss the impact Google eliminating third-party cookies will have on combating fraud. Dan talks about how it will be one less variable they will be able to use to identify fraud, but that Research Defender had already put their focus beyond cookies, so it will impact them less. The three then talk about a recent article that Bonnie Breslauer of DISQO wrote titled Market Research Fraud is on the Rise – Let’s Conquer It Together, and how vital collaboration in the industry is to combat fraud. (You can read the full article here: https://www.greenbook.org/mr/insights/market-research-fraud-is-on-the-rise-lets-conquer-it-together/) They talk about innovating new fraud defenses and how while collaboration has increased, more is needed. David Williams has been practicing yoga daily, without interruption, since 1971. In 1972 while he was at Dr. Swami Gitananda's Ananda Ashram in Pondicherry, South India, he met Manju, the son of K. Soon afterwards they taught through Northern Europe and realized that together their combined energies created an even more powerful synergy. Prem had begun writing his book “The Only Way Out is In” in 2006, and with Radha’s help he completed the project in 2007. In 2008, they decided to explore Bali and quickly discovered that Ubud was their new OM away from home. The Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute was born in Ubud in 2009. Prem and Radha both had the good fortune to study with Guruji personally for many years. They maintain the traditional system as taught by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, their beloved Guruji who passed away in May 2009. Prem began learning from Guruji back in 1978. Radha’s Ashtanga journey began by studying with Chuck Miller in 1990 followed by her first trip to Mysore in 1995. They bring to their teaching the individualization that Krishnamacharya taught and passed to Guruji. Working in a personable way, they make the needs of each individual student a priority. Prem is considered a “Doctor of Ayurveda” from his teacher Dr.Vasant Lad and has maintained a deep connection to the practice of Ayurveda as a lifestyle. Radha also has a deep interest in Ayurveda, particularly in the area of food and nutrition. She has studied with Maya Tiwari and Amadea Morningstar and she credits Paul Pitchford , the author of Healing with Whole Foods, as being a big inspiration. She shares her love of Ayurvedic cooking on a regular basis with cooking classes and as nutritional guidance in consultations. You can find them on their website at www.ashtangayogabali.com
#020: Prem & Radha Carlisi Scott talks to Prem and Radha Carlisi (and their lovely dogs) about their friendship since 2008 and how they've evolved over an incredibly close, and tender, twelve years of knowing each other. --- We'd like to invite you to join our growing Stillpoint Online Ashtanga Yoga and Mindfulness community. We live stream Ashtanga Yoga assisted self practice and guided classes with evening mindfulness sessions over 6 days with Scott Johnson and the Stillpoint teaching faculty. It's a beautiful way to navigate these times... --- Anthony ‘Prem’ Carlisi and Heather ‘Radha’ Carlisi first came together as a teaching team in Sri Lanka in 2007. They felt a powerful synergy between their combined energy as teachers, which led them to continue to teach together internationally. They were married in 2013. In December 2008 they travelled to Bali, where in November 2009 they established the Ashtanga Yoga Bali Research Center (AYBRC). In their shala they teach in the tradition of K. Pattabhi Jois, with whom they both studied for many years. Prem first travelled to Mysore to study in 1978, and Radha in 1995 having begun her study of Ashtanga yoga with Chuck Miller in 1990. Following the example set by Krishnamacharya, they adapt their teaching to the individual needs of each student. They also apply their knowledge Ayurveda to their unique teaching style, blending the elements of Ashtanga yoga and Ayurveda to help students to achieve a balanced lifestyle well beyond their asana practise. Prem and Radha have many shared at AYBRC. You can find out more about their teaching schedule here. Finding Humility Together - Prem and Radha Carlisi In this moving conversation Scott, Prem and Radha share intimate and tender memories of their friendship over the past 12 years. Prem and Radha are deeply open and honest about how their relationship managed the passing of Prem's daughter Shanti in 2012 and how they navigated people coming to their Yoga Shala in Bali and their own yoga practices. We are left with hope.... In this deeply moving conversation Prem & Radha share: The challenges they’ve faced running a Mysore shala from Bali during the COVID-19 pandemic. How Scott contacted Prem in 2008 after reading ‘The Only Way Out is In’, and ended up hosting both Prem and Radha for a London workshop. Prem’s motivation for writing his book - to share his perspective as a ‘regular guy’ so that people would know that yoga is accessible to anyone. That after Radha’s first yoga class - which she found in the Yellow Pages - she told the teacher (Chuck Miller) that she was going to be a yoga teacher. About the incredible support Radha has given Prem in his work and in his personal life. About how they set up Ashtanga Yoga Bali together, and how it felt like everything was falling into place for them. That everything collapsed in 2013 with the death of Prem’s daughter, Shanti. How they managed to keep the shala open, with crowds coming to see them, while struggling to come to terms with this tragic loss. The thoughtless comments that Prem received about how, as a long term yogi, he should be able to deal with grief. How grief forces a deeper perspective to Ashtanga yoga practise beyond the physical. That teaching - being able to give to others - can be a solace, and that suffering can bring empathy. The sense of humbling humiliation that Prem felt, in the face of such grief after this life-changing loss, despite external material successes. Their intentions around organising Ashtanga yoga conferences, hoping to keep the community connected after K. Pattabhi Jois died. The responsibility that senior teachers have to pass on the subtler layers of practise that move beyond the physical. About why Ashtanga yoga is a constant process of discovery, rather than a static set of rules. How important it is to meet all students as individuals, and that teaching this way becomes a dance. That an ‘advanced’ practise isn’t necessary to experience the principles of Ashtanga yoga practise: breath, bandha, and drishti. The relationship between the ethereal aspects of practise and how they relate to our physical being. Learning to dance with the people in our lives and with ourselves: Nataraja, Shiva, the aspect of life and death. How Prem’s practise has become more contemplative over time, spending hours in meditation. How Radha has become more forgiving of herself, and that in finding more freedom in her practise she has a better understanding of who she is, rather than who she thinks she’s supposed to be. ‘'I've been wanting to have this conversation with my dear friends Prem and Radha since I started the Stillpoints Podcast. It is one of the tenderest and most open conversations I have had and I loved the candid honesty that both Prem and Radha bring. They share how they have navigated grief together and that this is now the foundation of their relationship. We're left with a sense of hope. That it's a dance... There are so many reasons we might feel that cultivating a deep life of prayer is just impossible. We feel too busy. We feel we don’t deserve such a life. We imagine that kind of prayer is for someone more spiritual than me. But today, John Starke, author of The Possibility of Prayer, will remind us that prayer is always possible because prayer is a gift we receive more than a life we achieve. A mentor of mine, Chuck Miller, often reminded us that prayer isn’t so much something I do as it is Someone I’m with. Prayer is more about a Person than it is about a practice. We listen. We pour out whatever it is that fills our hearts and minds. And God listens. We are cultivating a conversational relationship with God. But it’s a gift and not an achievement. These are just a few of the themes John and I touched in our conversation about his book The Possibility of Prayer. Let me take a moment to tell you a little more about John Starke. He grew up in the Midwest but has lived in Arizona, South Carolina, Kentucky, and now lives in New York City with his wife Jena and their four children. He pastors Apostles Church Uptown in Manhattan. In addition to The Possibility of Prayer, John has written for for Christianity Today, Books & Culture, Comment Magazine, and others. After reading an article by David Shannon and Chuck Miller of Bain & Company about “Closed-Loop Savings Verification” processes (CLSV) in other industries, I discovered that this industry best practice also mirrored what is happening in healthcare. More and more, hospitals, systems and IDN's CFOs are requiring their supply chain professionals to verify their projected savings on every savings initiative. In my opinion, this is because too often savings are reported by supply chain management to CFOs that never hits their healthcare organization's bottom line. To avoid this from happening at your healthcare organization, here are three powerful tactics to ensure your healthcare organization has a foolproof “Closed-Loop Savings Verification” process that works

Meghan attended the 2019 Bali Ashtanga Yoga Conference and caught up with long-time teachers Dom Corigliano, Mark Robberds, Kathy Cooper, Scott Johnson, Radha, John Scott, and Chuck Miller - asking each the same question: What does yoga or practice mean for them? Each had a unique perspective not only in how they answered the question but reflected in how they teach as well. And yet, there were some very definite common themes: nature, family, and the process of change. This episode of the Ashtanga Dispatch Podcast was hosted by Meghan Powell, and edited and produced by Peg Mulqueen. Miller accumulated 861 victories coaching boys and girls high school basketball on a journey that took him through Woodbury, Milner, Monticello and Cartersville high schols before he landed in Henry County. Thats where he spent the final 27 years of his coaching career. Its a place Miller never expected to coach or fall in love with, but he did. Millers greatest success on the court came before he arrived at Henry County. He coached in the state tournament 15 times 12 with boys teams, three with girls teams. He led the Monticello boys to a state runner-up finish in 1973 and had an impressive run of three semifinal appearances in eight years at Cartersville (1977, 79, 81). Miller then thought he was headed to Fayette County, but was lured to Henry County and never left. He coached both boys and girls basketball and was the long-time athletic director. He led the Warhawks to state tournament appearances in 1982, 1983 and 1986, while leading the Lady Hawks to the playoffs in 1982, according to the Georgia High School Basketball Project. Miller said he survived a long career because of his wife, Debbie. The two have been married 42 years. Something I've been noticing on the podcast lately is I'm talking less with guests about what they do and more about how they're doing and what they're up to in life overall. Today's conversation felt like one of those. My guest, Kathryn Budig is an internationally celebrated yoga teacher and author known for her accessibility, humor, and ability to empower her students through her message, "aim true." Her big truth was about finding happiness within the pursuit of success. From there we discussed a variety of ways the pursuit of success makes us unhappy. From pursuing things because we think we "should" to the ways we use social media, seek validation and other forms of self-compromise. We talked about sustaining ourselves vs pushing or hustling and we also explored feeling comfortable in our skin as our bodies change and we go through difference phases, her experience of coming out in a relationship with a woman after her divorce from her husband. To say this one is packed and juicy is an understatement. Enjoy! About Kathryn Budig: Kathryn Budig is an internationally celebrated yoga teacher and author known for her accessibility, humor, and ability to empower her students through her message, “aim true.” The Kansas native graduated from the University of Virginia with a double degree in English and Drama before moving to Los Angeles, where she trained at Yogaworks under the tutelage of her mentors, Maty Ezraty and Chuck Miller. With over a decade of experience in her field, Budig served as the yoga editor to Women’s Health magazine for five years, contributed recipes and sat on the Yahoo Health Advisory Board, and regularly contributes to Yoga Journal, The New Potato, and MindBodyGreen. She was an athlete in Under Armour’s “I WILL WHAT I WANT” campaign, the co-host of the Free Cookies podcast, teaches regular online classes on Yogaglo.com, and is the founder of her animal project, Poses for Paws. She is the creator of the Aim True Yoga DVD produced by Gaiam, author of The Women's Health Big Book of Yoga and Aim True. Kathryn Budig is arguably one of the world's most famous yoga teachers. With an Instagram following of 219,000 (and counting), a past in Hollywood, background in acting, and a conventional "yoga bod," she was driven to disprove the stereotype that often comes with being young, blonde and beautiful. She set out to show the world that her teachings were substantial, spiritual, and meaningful. And she did. In this episode, mindbodygreen's CEO Jason Wachob touches on all the key milestones in Budig's life—the good, the bad, and the ugly. Budig, who is as relatable and authentic as they come even with all her acclaim, did her initial yoga teacher training in LA with Maty Ezraty and Chuck Miller, owners of Yoga Works, and subsequently studied with visionaries such as Seane Corn, who are credited with tastefully shaping yoga practice into the modern Western version we know and love today. After committing to teach yoga full time and moving on from her dream of acting, Budig was ready to leave LA and travel through central Florida for a brief interlude before plopping down in Charleston, South Carolina where she married her now ex-husband. Going through her marriage and divorce in the very public venue of social media left her struggling with anxiety and vertigo, but also fueled a newfound personal and spiritual practice that inspired her book, Aim True. Budig has since started her own wellness and sports podcast with her girlfriend Kate Fagan called Free Cookies, has become a budding public speaker, and has started working on book No. 3 as well as a comedy-based show.
