    Ivy Insights

The Gays Reading podcast is an absolute gem in the world of book podcasts. Hosted by Jason and Brett, this show stands out from the rest with their smart, funny, and thoughtful questions to authors. As a devoted listener to numerous podcasts, especially those focused on books, I have to say that The Gays Reading podcast is by far my favorite.

One of the best aspects of this podcast is the quality of the hosts' questions. They are able to strike a perfect balance between being intelligent and entertaining. Their questions not only show that they have done their research and read the books they discuss, but they also bring out fascinating insights from the authors. It's clear that Jason and Brett genuinely care about understanding the author's point of view without giving away any spoilers, making each episode a joy to listen to.

Furthermore, Jason and Brett are incredibly lovable hosts. Their chemistry shines through as they engage in witty banter and share personal anecdotes throughout each episode. This creates a welcoming atmosphere for listeners where you feel like you're just hanging out with two excellent human beings. Additionally, they have an impressive range of guests on their show, further adding depth to the discussions.

While there aren't many negative aspects to this podcast, one possible criticism could be its focus on current novels rather than classics or older works. While this may appeal more to fans of contemporary literature, those who prefer older works might find themselves looking elsewhere for recommendations on classic reads. However, given that The Gays Reading podcast has found its niche in discussing current novels, it can be argued that this focused approach is actually one of its strengths.

In conclusion, The Gays Reading podcast is an absolute delight for bookworms and anyone interested in engaging discussions about literature. From their inviting conversations to their fantastic selection of titles and brilliant author interviews, Jason and Brett have created a truly special podcast that stands out from the crowd. Whether you're looking for your next great read or simply want to enjoy a fun and informative podcast, The Gays Reading is a must-listen.

Set in a picturesque town in upstate New York, the novel follows three interconnected couples navigating friendship, parenthood, queer identity, jealousy, grief, and the quiet bravery of choosing each other again and again. At its core, LIKE FAMILY is a love letter to queer families and small-town life. What I love most is how Erin O. White writes about family — the people who see you, hold you, frustrate you, change you — with tenderness, humor, and honesty. These characters are flawed, loving, funny, and so deeply human. If you enjoy character-driven family novels in the spirit of Anne Tyler, Catherine Newman, and Ann Patchett, this one will feel like a cozy hug.A fifty-one-year-old debut novelist, Erin O. November Book Club: Victoria Redel (I Am You)

In this *spoiler free* conversation, host Jason Blitman talks to author Victoria Redel about her book I AM YOU, the November Gays Reading Book Club pick with Allstora.I AM YOU subverts the idea of a 17th-century historical novel  — it's intimate, modern, and deeply queer in the way it explores gender, art, and identity. The characters feel so alive and complex that you can't help but get pulled into their world, which makes it a perfect book for thoughtful, layered discussion. It's the kind of book that lingers — beautifully written, emotionally charged, and full of questions about power, love, and what it means to truly see and be seen.Victoria Redel has written four books of poetry and six books of fiction. Her short stories, poetry, and essays have appeared in Granta, The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, and BOMB, and she's received fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Fine Arts Work Center. Victoria is a professor at Sarah Lawrence College and splits her time between New York City and Utah. What do you get when you join the Gays Reading Book Club?Curated book delivered monthly to your door (at a discount!) – the books we'd call “accessibly literary”30% Off Allstora's websiteAccess to the book club “Kiki” to talk about the booksExclusive author Q&AsAllstora donates a children's book to an LGBTQIA+ youthThis club exclusively supports LGBTQIA+ authorsAnd more!Support the showBOOK CLUB!Sign up for the Gays Reading Book Club HERE October Book: Middle Spoon by Alejandro Varela SUBSTACK!https://gaysreading.substack.com/ MERCH!http://gaysreading.printful.me WATCH!https://youtube.com/@gaysreading FOLLOW!Instagram: @gaysreading | @jasonblitmanBluesky: @gaysreading | @jasonblitmanCONTACT!hello@gaysreading.com
