This week, Alan Gottlieb of the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) joined the show to respond to questions about the group's finances. As I promised on the previous podcast, I asked Gottlieb about the ins and out of how the two non-profits he's a director of interact with the private entities he operates and what safeguards are in place to ensure the groups aren't being overcharged. He said SAF and the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) have boards that approve the contracts with the private companies he owns, and he has no say over those decisions. He noted the relationships have been disclosed on the group's financial filings for decades, as required by law. He also attacked Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson (D.) for a year-long investigation into the group that has yet to produce any charges or legal action. He accused Ferguson of targeting the gun-rights groups because they have started several lawsuits against the state's gun laws in recent years. He compared the investigation to harassment and said they filed a civil rights suit against the state over the cost of compiling the documents they requested and the lost man-hours involved in complying with the AG's various demands. He said The Wall Street Journal, which broke the news of the investigation and raised questions about the gun group's finances, was negligent in repeating some of the accusations the AG has reportedly pursued without proper context. Gottlieb said one of the groups the paper implied he was profiting off of is actually a co-op that operates at cost. He said the other company he owns that does business with SAF and CCRKBA offers services at below-market rates. Gottlieb answered several other questions about how the groups have operated under his leadership over the years. And he gave an update on SAF's latest lawsuits against New Jersey and Maryland's latest gun-carry restrictions. Plus, Contributing Writer Jake Fogleman and I discuss the Supreme Court's decision not to issue an emergency injunction against an Illinois city's AR-15 ban. Special Guest: Alan Gottlieb.
Mark and Dave Workman discuss the state of policing in America and the current crime wave plus the CCRKBA and SAF SCOTUS briefs files in NYSPRA v NY case!
Riding Shotgun With Charlie #084 Mark Walters Armed American Radio Part of the Southern Tour 2020 brought me to the Atlanta area. Of course, I had to reach out to Mark Walters from Armed American Radio. Mark is the reason that I was brought into the 2A Activist fold. I interviewed him in Minneapolis in August 2016 and he loved the idea of driving passengers around as we talk about gun issues with gun people. He asked if I wanted to speak at the Gun Rights Policy Conference in Tampa that year. How could I say no? I picked Mark up at his house outside Atlanta and we headed out to film another show. We drove to the bar & marina that Ozark was filmed on Lake Altoona, but the Hood-Cam wasn’t working. Grrr! We covered some of the things Mark and his guests talked about the night before. And we covered some politics about how things are going for gun owners in America. We talk about Kennesaw GA, GunTown USA since 1982. It was a bit of a pilgrimage to visit the town while I was there. We cover how Georgia Carry helped get their members to carry on Army Corps of Engineer property. Mark shares a story about an incident that happened at the dock where someone pulled a firearm on someone who stole another person’s ski boat. And share some stories about bears. We drove by some schools that were the first to have COVID-19 in Cherokee County. Mark talks about how things have been in Georgia since March and we compare it to things in Massachusetts, which are completely different. He shares a story about him visiting a hotel for a meeting that was open but there was almost no one in the lobby and restaurant. He told the bartender that she should turn the TV off and life will resume as before the virus. We spend a bit of time talking about the mask wearing and how it’s parlayed into other areas including restaurants and stores. But also how it’s a much bigger play into the government taking more and more control of our lives and our freedoms. Mark does go on to predict a Trump victory with 300+ electoral votes again in a landslide. It was great to visit Mark and be in his hometown area. I do owe it to Mark for helping me get RSWC to a bigger and better level and getting the #StagecoachAcrossAmerica. Favorite quotes: “Freedom will always prevail.” “You show me an American city in decay and I’ll show you an American city by Democrats control at every level for decades.” “They’re (Democrats) silent. It’s a lie of omission.” “You hear 100,000,000 gun owners, I would put that closer to 150,000,000, maybe even higher.” Armed American Radio https://armedamericanradio.org Armed American Radio Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/armedamericanradio Second Amendment Foundation https://www.saf.org/ Second Amendment Foundation Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/SecondAmendmentFoundation Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms https://www.ccrkba.org CCBKA Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/CCRKBA/ Armed American Radio 8.23.2020 Hour 2 Janet Mefferd https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/show-archives-armed-american-radio/id316019334?i=1000488971136 Armed American Radio 8.24.2020 (With me on segment 1) https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/show-archives-armed-american-radio/id316019334?i=1000489062066 Please support the Riding Shotgun With Charlie sponsors and supporters. Here’s three points I got from the John Wick 3 movie : 1. One of things I pulled out of this action packed movie is that relationships matter. 2. Blind loyalty hurts. 3. learn how to operate the firearm you run backwards and forwards, be proficient in clearing malfunctions, how to fix it, everything https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSXc5z9F7Do I have a Conversation with the best writer on the Black Man With A Gun blog, Dave B. Cole on hunting, being a writer for the Black Man With A Gun and more Gun Rights Alliance - join our list https://forms.aweber.com/form/54/1271685154.htm Today, I am looking forward at what I can do for the gun rights movement as a legacy. I want to be remembered for more than just being the OGaka the Black Man with A Gun™. Here’s what I plan. I am working with a app developer to create a mobile app that can be a platform directory for organizations like the GOA, USCCA, SAF, NAAGA, 2AO, and others to connect with us. IT will also have a directory and links to pages from content creators that are really the media for our side. The bloggers, podcasters, and YouTubers will have their own apps within this app. I am trying to get cutting age tech to protect us from the Bergs that don’t like us. (Bloom and Zucker.) It’s been a great life so far. Being involved in the gun rights movement has improved me. It has taught me to be a better citizen. It has made me appreciate freedom, history and the sacrifices of others. Communication is the magic sauce. Going to try it despite our mistrust of each other. Going to make it happen despite the need for goo gobs of money. The power has always been in the people. We are what makes this thing called freedom work. I think I can do this. I’ve worked with just about everyone. I’ve watched folks come and go. Like a sentinel, I have held my post. I have encouraged and discouraged posers as best I could. I have been an activist in the gun rights community since 1991. Before that I started as a firearms trainer for my government agency. From that I launched a side business to teach tactics and defense to civilians and security officers. I was part of the start of the concealed carry movement. I traveled with the NRA and the Law Enforcement Alliance of America to testify in a handful of states to change their racist policies and laws. Thus began my journey as the Black Man with A Gun™. I started a national gun club in 1991 to foster the growth of African Americans in the shooting sports. I published a book in 1999. I created a website in 2000. I’ve worked behind the scenes to select, qualify and protect people of color that became involved in Supreme Court cases. I’ve worked with the NRA. I even tried to get a job there. I’m a life member. I only turned it down because the salary was too low and not close to what they were paying the incumbent. I begged to be a functioning member on the GOA staff and after –way too much back and forth – got a position as the volunteer Urban Affairs guy. I didn’t do a thing with that. I resigned. Too early I guess. I’ve been a voting member on the CCRKBA and done the perfunctory “minority speaker slot” the GRPC but never made the masthead. I’ve worked with just about all the groups out there. My hats off to all the brothers and sisters now working with “x” organization. This is my attempt to sew all the pieces together. If you will support it, join the email list today so I can build a team to make this happen. We are the Gun Rights Alliance. M-W tactical on the accessory from Taran Tactical
