About Lynne Wadsworth: Lynne Wadsworth is the owner and founder of Holistic Health & Wellness, LLC.  She is an AADP Certified Holistic Health and Wellness Practitioner and Certified Wellness Cooking Instructor.  She earned her certification through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in New York. Lynne's area of expertise involves working with women who are in midlife who are tired of the changes they see and experience on a daily basis. She helps them achieve a higher level of health, allowing them to experience more energy, less belly bloat, fewer mood swings, headaches, sugar cravings, and weight loss. She believes that living in health and wellness takes in many areas of our lives, not just with diet and healthy eating. She helps her clients make permanent changes  Her passion and desire is to help women their mojo back again, lose weight, feel healthy, energized, and rejuvenated. Life is not over just because you have reached midlife. In fact, it can be fun, joyful and fulfilling. She firmly believes life CAN BEGIN at 40. What We Discuss In This Episode: Health and wellness became a passion because of my own struggles. I learned the hard way that bad habits produce bad health. I spent many years yo-yo dieting – and we all know where that leads, right? And it's certainly not to good health. So, when you hear me talk about “diet” as I may do today, it's about the healthy way of eating – the kind of food that we eat – that makes up our diet or healthy lifestyle. I learned to get out what I call that “diet mentality” and choose a healthy lifestyle instead. In this episode, we'll talk about some of the basic things relating to creating a healthy life for yourself – some of the basic, easy to create, healthy habits – because they're the foundation for living that healthy life.  There are many aspects of living a healthy life – and many more reasons why we want to achieve that optimal health. But it's important to remember that …. SMALL STEPS = BIG CHANGES Today, we'll look at 3 things: MINDSET –that's one of the biggest solutions we don't think about so often. SELF CARE – because I believe Health Care is Self-Care MOVEMENT AND EXERCISE – because this is sooo good for our overall health. MINDSET AFFECTS EVERYTHING Many of us are so conditioned to focus on the ‘what if I fail' thoughts and have the ‘I could never do that' mindset which of course, stops us from reaching our goals. The truth is that you are who and what you tell yourself you are, not what anyone else tells you. Here's why you'll want to shift out of excuse mindset and INTO a Solution-Oriented Winning one: It's YOUR life. It's Your health. It's YOUR body. It's your longevity... Ultimately, your happiness and satisfaction are what's at stake. It all starts with your mindset and there's no one else responsible for your success except you! Taking that first huge step of getting your mindset where it needs to be and setting some goals, start taking some steps today that will create the positive, strong mindset you need.  HEALTH CARE = SELF CARE We all MAKE the time for what's important – and your health and wellness IS important.  Time is our most precious resource – and we want to use it wisely to take care of ourselves. Self-care, self-love, self-support, self-nurturing … whatever you want to call it, it's the very BEST investment you can make for your physical, mental, and emotional health and wellbeing. And let's dispense right now with some misconceptions about self-care:  Taking time for yourself to relax, replenish and rejuvenate is NOT being lazy, selfish or self-centered.  Too often, we feel guilty for taking time to take care of ourselves.  If that's how you feel when you spend some time nurturing yourself, then it's time to leave that mindset in the dust. Self-care is not selfish. It's the most important, foundational concept to honoring your health and wellness. It puts you fully in control of your own happiness – and ONLY YOU are responsible for your happiness and your wellness. To make Self-Care super simple – think of it as something that supports your Mind, Body & Soul - your physical needs, your intellectual and emotional needs as well as your soul nourishment – what makes you joyful. We all need to unwind & rejuvenate and replenish each day, but many people get so wrapped up in their busy lives that they don't bother to take any time at all to care for themselves. Having a regular self-care plan replenishes and renews your spirit. It's the act of doing something for yourself to support your overall health and wellness. Another great key ingredient of self-care includes our sleep. We don't always think of it in terms of what sleep does for our overall health, weight loss, hormones, or other aspects of our life. There's absolutely no question that getting enough quality sleep is one of the most important things you can do for your overall health and is a great way to practice self-care! A better night's sleep can be achieved, and it's not that difficult! MOVEMENT AND EXERCISE Did you know that that one little word, exercise, simply means moving your body, and it may be the closest thing to being the fountain of youth? Here's why you want to make just 30 minutes of daily MOVEMENT a part of your regular health care and self-care routine:  Keeps you young Reduces infections Prevents heart attacks Eases asthma Controls blood sugar Can significantly cut the risk of developing type II diabetes. Protects against cancer and cancer recurrences Combats stress Can help relieve depression as effectively as antidepressant medication. Prolongs life There's no pill, elixir or quick-fix remedy that has ever been developed or is in development that can do all that! The first step is DECIDING that exercise and movement is a priority and so you should be working other things in your schedule around it.  If it's not a big enough priority, the “excuses” can always creep in. Once the decision to move more for your health has been made, the next step is to set realistic goals. It's not always easy, but once you get started and see how great you feel (and look) you're going to love having that energy boost and how seeing great your clothes feel. Moving your body more is part of achieving balanced health. And, whether you want to exercise to help you move better, look better, feel better and age better – or to support your weight loss goals by burning more calories and fat – the time to start is now. And it won't take much for you to begin to feel better.  Try it for 30 days and I'll bet you'll start to see and feel improvements to your health by the end of the month.  In this episode, we've only talked about three things – but each one is a key ingredients to living a healthy life and being healthier and more joyful. But these are important keys: Mindset, Self-Care, and Movement – and we didn't even touch the tip of the iceberg with these key steps.  But remember, we achieve that healthy balance in our lives one step at a time.  We start by adding one habit at a time – keeping that positive attitude – being mindful of how we respect and treat our body, making sure we move more. If you are not doing any of these right now, I would challenge you to take that first step – MAKE THE DECISION. GET STARTED. Try it for 30 days, if that's how long it takes for you to make it a happy, and then once you have one habit down pat, go on to the next. Remember, this is a HEALTHY LIFESTYLE – no more “diet mentality.” It's not about unsustainable deprivation – it's about a healthy lifestyle – making those changes, one step at a time. Life is a journey. One to be enjoyed. It can be exciting, filled with energy, and full of happiness and joy. Our aim is health, happiness, and a long, long life. And it is possible to live in better health. Remember, it's JUST a DECISION. About Lynne Wadsworth: Lynne Wadsworth is the owner and founder of Holistic Health & Wellness, LLC and curator of the Energized Healthy Women's Club. She helps her clients make permanent changes  Her passion and desire are to help women their mojo back again, lose weight, and feel healthy, energized, and rejuvenated. Life is not over just because you have reached midlife. In fact, it can be fun, joyful, and fulfilling. She firmly believes life CAN BEGIN at 40.  What We Discuss In This Episode: If your 2021 has been anything like mine, it brought about lots of changes – the past 18 months have been a little scary, and a lot crazy.  As we go into the fall season, I'm always excited to recommit to my health and wellness and I know many of you are too.  That's why I decided to talk to you about just some of the pillars of health and wellbeing, and in the short time we have together, pack it full of simple strategies to help you move forward with your health goals!  The first pillar I want to mention is about  Making Time. We all know that we feel we don't have enough time, right?  Many of us have great intentions, but we get tired.  Life happens.  Working is exhausting.  Our family can take it out of us and we don't follow through. Here's the thing I've learned about time:  We all MAKE the time for what's most important to us.  Time is the most precious resource we have at our disposal. On this earth, we only have a limited amount of time to spend with our friends, family, and loved ones. Whatever you do, remember -   Keep It Super Simple When managing your time, the most effective way I've found to be successful each day is to start by creating a morning ritual that involves some self-care. Starting the day off this way helps you achieve a successful, thriving, and abundant life. In this episode, we talk about how you can create an awesome Miracle Morning Ritual.  Having a miracle morning ritual can help you have a better self-care routine. And when it comes to time management, be sure to ORGANIZE & Prioritize. The second pillar touches on Healthy Eating because eating healthy isn't just about losing or maintaining weight. It's more about making choices that support your health along the way as much as possible. Why eat foods that make you feel sluggish, bloated, headachy, moody, and more. Make sure that what you eat nourishes you and makes you feel more energized. In this episode, I give you some easy ideas for eating healthy without adding more time to your day. Plus we touch on how you can eat mindfully to help you be even healthier.  Then comes the all-important third pillar-- Getting healthy, regenerative sleep.  We talk about how much sleep you might need, plus the downsides of not getting enough sleep. The truth is, not getting enough good quality sleep impacts our brain health and memory in the long term, and even our body's ability to detoxify and renew itself leading to an exponential increase in diseases like obesity, heart disease, Alzheimer's, autoimmune disorders, and adrenal dysregulation. When was the last time you woke up without an alarm, refreshed, AND didn't need a big bucket of coffee to get kick-started in the morning? I give you some of my best tips to help you get better sleep.  Did I leave the best till last? You decide! Pillar #4 is all about Movement. Despite the fact that we feel we don't have enough time for this it is SO important for your health. Getting just a bit of regular ‘movement' each day will give you SO many benefits if you can JUST GET YOUR BODY up off that chair, off the comfy couch, out of the car seat…wherever it is that you spend the majority of your waking hours. I share why you want to make just 30 minutes of daily MOVEMENT a part of your regular self-care routine. Not only does regular activity strengthen your muscles and improve heart and lung function, but it also reduces your risk of illness and disease, stimulates the growth of new brain cells, adding years to your life. There is no pill, elixir, or quick-fix remedy that has ever been developed or is in development that can do all that! Here's the thing. Most of us know that exercise and movement is good for us, but the biggest obstacle is time. So let's delve into that so more. So, the first step is DECIDING that moving your body more is important enough to make it a priority and working other things in your schedule around it.  Giving your body the gift of movement regularly will actually help you feel energized, sleep better, help you tune into your body's hunger and thirst needs, and relieve your stress…see how that works? Moving your body more is part of achieving balanced health. And, whether you want to exercise to help you feel better, look better, and age better – or to support your weight loss goals by burning more calories – or even balance your hormones – the time to start is now. So these have just been a few of the pillars and building blocks for health – whatever your health needs are. There are more strategies and building blocks we could talk about but I just picked 4 today. Life is not over just because you have reached midlife. In fact, it can be fun, joyful, and fulfilling. She firmly believes life CAN BEGIN at 40.   What We Discuss In This Episode: Do you find yourself picking on that poor woman you see time and again in the mirror? Do you look at yourself and think, oh, if I only I didn't have these wrinkles, and if only my stomach wasn't so big. You know the drill. We often don't have a kind word to say about ourselves. So why are we so hard on ourselves?   True beauty emanates from the inside out, yet, when you look in the mirror, you see grey hair, dropping or baggy eyes, thin lip lines, and drooping jowls. You see every wrinkle, every dark spot, and every scar. You only see your looks. You don't see your beauty.  I'd love to help you change that.  It's truly a privilege to age. Many years ago, people didn't live to the ripe old age we do now. The new 60 is the old 40 you know. So now, with a longer life span, our focus really has to be focusing on the inside out. I'm definitely blessed with good skin though – and actually, until I was in my 30s I didn't even use moisturizer. As I've aged, I make sure I treat my face well and wash it, tone it, use eye cream and moisturizer. Now I do like to use one that is natural with none of those harmful, toxic ingredients. … but that's a conversation for another day – or a chat in my group – the Energized Healthy Women's Group on Facebook. The best advice I have for you though when it comes to makeup is that it's not supposed to be used to change the contour of your nose, the shape of your face, the size of your lips – oh! And have you noticed that your lips seem to shrink in size as you age?  It's really designed to accentuate the beauty that's already there and it is there – that's for sure.   For now, I want to talk about lifestyle and mindset. Here are some quick Anti-aging Health Hacks to help with your beauty from the inside out. It's so important. Drink more water and stay hydrated Eat more whole, nutrient-dense foods rich in vitamins, minerals & Omega 3's Drink less alcohol - or none at all :) Move your body, and break a sweat daily. Rest more, and get adequate restorative sleep. Manage your stress. Avoid excessive sun exposure Do NOT smoke. Ever. Laugh more. Get outside and take in nature. So back to the vanity portion and aging. We are so messed up by what we watch and choose to look at. Intellectually, we know that photos of celebrities, models, and other so-called famous people -- are photoshopped or they have had work done on themselves constantly. We don't have a  lot of reasonable standards for aging from seeing all these beautiful well-known people who just don't look their age (hello facelifts, photoshop, and injections). Because of this, when you look in the mirror and your image doesn't match the manufactured faces you're constantly bombarded with, it messes with you. Comparison is an act of violence against the self. Iyanla Vanzant There's the whole comparison thing -- you go around comparing yourself to people in magazines and wonder why on earth you don't look like that. But in the real world, not the false world of beauty, tiny bodies, and photoshopped pictures, we can all find people we look up to, want to aspirate to – having the right people to look up to is a wonderful way to grow. So for the most part, we've been talking about the neck up, but for a few minutes let's talk about something equally, if not more important. Body positive images. 90% of your body type is DNA dictated.  You have to wonder how much our body image has been programmed into us by our mothers. Let's dive deeper into that. We all have a tendency to analyze yourselves. But stop! Love yourself! Love your body! Be grateful for what it can do. If you're not taking full advantage of the wonderfully oiled machine you are living in, start now. Exercise because you can - and because it's good for your mood. Don't be driven by the wrong reasons or motives but be motivated for the right reasons – for me, it's my health. Ask yourself, what your driving motivation is.  Let's think for a moment about just who it is that you are trying to look good for. I hope that you want to look good for YOU. When you feel good about YOU and you're wanting to look and feel good for yourself, it shows on you. You don't need to catch the eye of someone else to validate your beauty. It's an inside job. Beauty is not in the eye of the beholder. It's YOUR own user experience. Beauty is an energy of light and self-love – this gives the confidence in yourself that people around you feel that and appreciate you more. As we find ourselves not just in midlife, but also in the midst of a seemingly never-ending pandemic – it's important to have a routine -  it pulls you together each and every day. Get up and shower, if that's what you do normally in the mornings. Put on a little makeup, do your hair – whatever it takes for YOU to feel your best. And then fuel your body on the inside too. Hydrate, eat right. Many of us have found it hard to find our sweet spot with all the remote working and lockdown, but here's my pro tip on that -  carry on your normal routine, just as if things are normal. Do some meditation, journaling, things to take care of your mental health. Then add in some exercise and healthy eating to take care of your physical wellbeing. Then be sure to have a beauty routine so you're looking and feeling good about yourself from the inside out. There's just something magical about putting on decent clothes, and a swipe of lipstick, or mascara – whichever makes you feel good about yourself. It makes you feel put together. What is most important to remember is that the aging process is normal and natural. You need to shift from a standard that's unobtainable – filled with advertisements and unreal expectations - to working on your true beauty – and that comes from good health, kindness, purposefulness, and gratitude.  The next time you look in the mirror, I hope you see your true beauty and not just your looks. I hope you see someone who is confident and is beautiful from the inside out. With aging comes wisdom and grace. It's a time to celebrate life and the person we have become and even better, we still have lots of room left to grow and mature – gracefully.   If any of the things we've talked about today resonate with you or if you find yourself with questions or are challenged by some of these areas in your own life, then I'd love to chat. What We Discuss In This Episode: In this episode, we talk about anxiety and menopause. Some women may feel sad or troubled during menopause, because of the changes to the body that occur, such as the loss of fertility. Other women may feel relieved to no longer fear pregnancy. In addition to this, women may undergo many significant life changes during the menopausal years. Their children may leave home, and their parents or partner may become unwell related to aging. These factors can all contribute to heightened feelings of anxiety. The hormonal changes that happen during menopause can also drive feelings of anxiety. Changes in levels of hormones called estrogen and progesterone, in particular, can have an impact. But knowledge is power. So once you become aware that you are experiencing some anxiety, being armed with some information and some solutions can really help. We discuss the difference between stress and anxiety and how you can overcome them. Lynne gives encouragement and hope in these times of anxiety, stress, and perhaps depression  -- all naturally.
