This week Nathan and Gita are joined by Chris Bratt of People Make Games – one of the best investigative outlets in all of video games – to discuss his new video about workplace abuse at outsourcing studios in southeast Asia. We try to get to the bottom of why big video game companies turn a blind eye to these sorts of incidents, which in this case include a manager convincing a subordinate to slap herself in the face 100 times as an act of penance. Yeah, it's bad! Then we talk about how the wildfires currently raging in California – which are displacing video game studios, among many, many other things – are happening right next door to CES in Las Vegas, where tech titans are trumpeting the latest environmentally destructive fad, generative AI. After that, we move on to slightly more lighthearted fare in our predictions for the year in gaming. Only one of us predicts a major industry-related crash, so that's gotta count for something. Also, Half-Life 3 is getting announced this year. Mark my words.      Credits - Hosts: Nathan Grayson, Chris Person, and Riley MacLeod - Podcast Production & Ads: Multitude - Subscribe to Aftermath! And, you know, whether that's somebody we're writing about who did something bad, or people who are unionizing, or people who have been laid off. And that is a huge responsibility. This is a great example of why Grant's perspective is so necessary in the games media right now, shining a spotlight on an often overlooked area of games and the people who play and make them."They can't afford their medications, they've had to stop procedures, some person can't afford life-saving medication that they were only able to afford because of their insurance... PMG has faced its own share of that over the last couple of weeks."Because of the opaqueness, because there is a vacuum of information, misinformation becomes gospel. Frequently responsible for the lion's share of a publication's traffic, despite rarely appearing on the homepage itself, video game guides are hugely important to the overall success of some of your favourite games sites. So why are guides writers so often underpaid and overworked?"You know how people say there are no old games media workers? Because they all move out of the industry because of pay and all that? I don't think I really know any old guides writers, because they're all gone now, they've all moved on to other things. The podgang love videogames so much they met up in *real life* to talk about them in a room. Pip likes the new teen angst drama Life Is Strange: Before the Storm, in which she's been talking back like a brat. Speaking of which, special guest Chris Bratt from Eurogamer joins us to talk about XCOM 2: War of the Chosen, because we're sick of Adam's face. Meanwhile, Brendan is getting slap-happy in brutal facepuncher Absolver. This week Matt is joined by two guests: Chris Bratt and Gav Murphy, both of whom remain sober and sensible while Matt glugs his way through the dregs of a cold. We chat about Unravel (and whether or not Yarny deserved to horribly die in a fire), Overwatch, briefly chat about XCOM 2 - obviously - and then Matt reveals that he's playing Cookie Clicker. Again. Finally, we answer a couple of interesting questions - leading to Chris Bratt offering the shocking revelation: "I don't know a lot about developing lunchboxes".

Matt is joined by Chris Bratt for a bumper edition of Daft Souls that's entirely about XCOM 2. Spoilers are kept to an absolute minimum as we're a pair of respectful chaps, but obviously it IS two people talking about a game for over an hour, so if you're precious about not knowing anything at all - avoid! Everyone else? ENJOY.

Matt and Joe are joined by Chris Bratt, who's been playing a lot of Overwatch. It sounds exciting, but the other chaps have real reservations about the online team-shooty genre - can stuff like this and Rainbow Six: Siege avoid the horrible fate of Evolve? Matt's been playing Starcraft 2, and Joe's been dipping into Code Name S.T.E.A.M and thinking about stressful games. Special thanks again to Mr Joe Skrebels for standing in for Quinns over the last few months, and thanks to those of you who fund Cool Ghosts for allowing us to pay him for his brilliant services! If you love Joe then don't despair, we're planning to get him doing a little bit of video stuff for us at some point in the new year.
