Patricia Hernandez is now the former Editor-in-Chief of Kotaku, having been fired from the position just a few days ago. In today's episode we're going to be talking to her about what's happened and digging into the increasingly strained relationship between Kotaku's editorial team and the company which owns the site itself, G/O Media."I can't really go into specifics about the reason because it does involve other staffers and their personal information, so I just want to be sensitive to that. But I will say it was a deeply G/O Media reason. It's all been pretty disappointing.I feel like, in some ways, maybe it was for the best. I was opening my notes app and kind of scrolling through it and came across a resignation letter that I wrote literally a year ago."Support the show

Hey folks! The dawn of the final hours are before us and Matt sat down with friends of the show Stephanie, Max and WeedLordVegeta to talk about all things positive and negative about Sword and Shield before the game launches proper in North America. This episode contains spoilers for unrevelealed portions of the Galar Dex and information about the game, such as Gym Leaders, which may be considered spoilers to some so tread at your own risk. This episode was also fully recorded by a web-hosted recording bot for simplicity, and thus will have occasional blips in the audio. Our new art was made by Golurk and our opening theme music is, as always, the unimpeachable Pokémon Gold/Silver Surf music by Junichi Masuda and Go Ichinose. Closing theme this episode is the Sword and Shield battle theme penned by Toby Fox.A link that relates to a topic of discussion is this excellent article by Patricia Hernandez at Polygon about the #GameFreakLies hashtag.

When Ubisoft announced that it would be working with Joseph Gordon-Levitt's HitRecord crowdsourcing platform to solicit 10 community music tracks for inclusion in its 2020 open-world hackathon "Watch Dogs: Legion", it no doubt expected the announcement to be met with a certain amount of positivity. But at Kotaku, IGN, Eurogamer, GameDailyBiz, and a host of others, that was very far from the case. What is HitRecord and what is Ubisoft offering in exchange for the rights to the 10 selected songs? Why do some view the HitRecord deal as "exploitation" and what have they said in defense of such stance?
