The City of West Palm Beach may be occasionally iCONE-ic when dotted with construction or traffic cones, but our City is always iconic especially along its award-winning Clematis Street corridor. Visitors to the West Palm Beach waterfront can expect to see the fun spin on the word “iconic” throughout downtown during this year's Summer in Paradise (SIP) campaign. The fifth annual campaign, which encourages visitors to take a ‘SIP' of fun and free activities, will have a construction theme to embrace Phase II of the Clematis Streetscape project, which aims to create wider sidewalks with more shade trees to create a more pedestrian-friendly environment on our City's most iconic street. Summer in Paradise programming runs from Thursday, June 6 – Thursday, August 1.

The City of West Palm Beach, it's CRA, and the West Palm Beach Downtown Development Authority are rolling out an innovative idea on Flager Drive. Six-tenths of a mile between Banyan Blvd and Lakeview Ave will go from two northbound and two southbound lanes to one north and one southbound lane. The two easternmost lanes will be turned into a sort of linear park for pedestrians. The "Flagler Shore" Pedestrian experiment will be ongoing to encourage people to ride their bikes, walk, picnic, be creative, and communicate with each other along Flagler Drive. It's a way for the city to try on new concepts before committing to large expenditures of funds. This temporary 5-month experiment will take place from October 7, 2017, through March 1, 2018. Also on this episode of City Voice, we discuss what a prestigious $180,000 Grant from the Knight Foundation will be used for on Clematis Street. Sara Trovinger discovered her creativity at an early age and was encouraged to explore it as much as she was trained in harnessing it.  She is a prolific musician and soon-to-be novelist—both of which make her pretty special.  However, what makes Sara so particularly lovely is that she has decided to utilize her talents for the care of our most vulnerable children; she is a special education teacher. Working with children who are medically fragile, wide-ranging developmentally, and full of life that can be difficult to unlock is a practice that Sara admits is challenging and oftentimes heavy.  But, she brings the greatest level of joy and tenderheartedness to her classroom that one could imagine.  She is simply a wonderful human being, and her life is a true inspiration! This episode of Curve the Cube is sponsored by Little Smiles of Florida!  Little Smiles helps kids right here in our own neighborhoods who are struggling through something that no kid should ever have to deal with.  They work with the professionals closest to them to identify ways to put the little smiles on their faces.  Whether donating Christmas presents to children in shelters, bringing toys to children in local hospitals, raising money for a converted vehicles, or whatever else they can do… they do!  But, they do it with YOUR help.  Please donate to their wonderful cause! You can take The Pizza Girls out of New York, but you can't take the New York out of their pizza!  Transplanted in the 90s, Jennifer and Phoebe promised West Palm the most authentically New York pizza experience. They soon realized their newfound love of Florida, and have been delivering on that promise ever since! Located on the end of Clematis Street, where the fountains meet the heart of downtown, the Pizza Girls restaurant has THRIVED!!! Along with their hard work and successes building a small business, the Girls have reaped the benefits of their location's rejuvenation and vibrancy. There is always something (or, oftentimes, several somethings) going on just steps from their doorway. And, their patrons LOVE it!! (Trust me: there is nothing better at an outdoor festival or on a party night than a slice of their Hawaiian, a personal fave.) Jennifer and Phoebe really opened up on this podcast, too. Not only do they offer stories that every business can relate to and gain from, but they also delve into some areas of their personal lives that I was so honored to hear about. So, sit back and enjoy this podcast. Like their pizza, the Girls offer up every ounce of realness that the New York in them can supply!! So, head to their website, www.PizzaGirls.com.  You can literally click on their images to have them say “Hello”! Music Bed courtesy of DJ John Hitta!!!
