Closed Doors and Greater Plans | The Book of Acts
“Closed Doors (Acts 16:6–10)” Ever had a dream die? A plan crumble? A door slam shut right on your fingers while you were trying to pry it open in Jesus' name? Yeah. Us too. Paul had the Spirit of Jesus tell him “Nope” (twice!) before finally getting a vision to head somewhere he hadn't even planned. Turns out God is better at Google Maps than we are. This message is for anyone who's ever been frustrated by redirection and divine silence. Spoiler: Closed doors might be the best thing that ever happened to you. A few years ago, Twitter Beach was one of the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity places to be. Nowadays, the beach and Twitter execs are harder to find. Instead of the flashy fireside chats and branded lounges, X's execs are found behind closed doors, quietly courting marketers and media buyers against a backdrop of lawsuits, Global Alliance for Responsible Media (GARM)'s disbanding and political crosshairs. It's a clear sign that the platform's role in the ad ecosystem– and culture overall–has dramatically shifted. In this episode of the podcast, platforms reporter Krystal Scanlon joins host Kimeko McCoy about Twitter, now X, and what its retreat from the Cannes beachfront says about its relationship with advertisers, as well as TikTok's head in the sand mentality around the ban.
Today on the show, we're answering the question, “How do I change seasons well?" If you've been around here for a while you know Craig Thompson (or CRAIGLES or the prince as we called him around the office). He used to be part of our media team here at AFD, Inc. but last fall he and his wife, Hannah, moved to Indiana. SOO many of you talk to me about deciding whether or not to move or figuring out what to do if a season is changing and I think you're going to love this conversation with Craig. We're going to talk about transitioning from “a good season to a good season”...what it looked like for Craig and Hannah to decide to move…making decisions as a single person vs a couple…and then we're going to talk about some advice if you're starting to feel the inkling of a season change. If you're following along in your TSF Seasons Guidebook, we're on page 58. And be on the lookout in your inboxes today, because we're emailing out the summer pages! When God opens a door, He almost always opens the heart of someone on the other side. The Apostle Paul was no stranger to this truth. God opened doors for him in ministry all the time, and almost without exception, Paul walked through them and helped lead someone to faith in Christ. Coming up next, a wonderful story of faith and redemption from Ron's teaching series, “Paul: Surprised by Grace.”
When God closes a door, He doesn't always open a window. Sometimes He opens a better door. There may not be a better illustration of how God opens some doors and closes others than Paul's second missionary journey. Plenty of practical lessons for us to learn during this season of Paul's life, including some of the ways we can know and discern God's will for our lives. Stay with us now as Ron moves forward in his teaching series, “Paul: Surprised by Grace.”
Ambassador Ron Kirk, former Mayor of Dallas and US Trade Representative
In this powerful lecture, we share the four essential keys to help overcome life's challenges and unlock closed doors.
There are often doors we try to open but God closes, but when God opens a door nobody can shut it. Pastor Larry Lucas, who is the newly installed pastor at Bethel Reformed Methodist in Covington Louisian, joins the podcast to talk about his journey with open and closed doors.

In this powerful episode, we explore the emotional and often unseen journey of a mother's love. Sheryl Marazzo is a force of nature—fierce, steady, and filled with a bright hope. Living a life woven with heartbreak and tragedy, her resilience and sheer will drove her to find happiness and peace right alongside the unimaginable. As a mom to three children—one living with a rare disease, one a rare disease carrier, and one battling addiction—she brings honesty, humor, and deep heart to a conversation about survival, sacrifice, and the unexpected ways we figure out how to keep going. A long-time advocate and nonprofit founder, Sheryl's story is framed by Duchenne muscular dystrophy, but beyond labels and medical conditions, hers is simply a story about being fully human.

Have you ever faced a closed door—a job opportunity lost, a relationship that ended, or a dream that didn't come to pass? It's in these moments we ask, Why, God? But what if that closed door is actually God's way of guiding you to something greater? Our springboard for today's discussion is: Proverbs 16:9—"The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps."We often have our plans mapped out, thinking we know what's best. Yet, when God closes a door, it's not to harm us but to redirect us. Consider Joseph—betrayed, enslaved, imprisoned. Each closed door in his life seemed like a setback, but in reality, God was positioning him for something extraordinary.Maybe you've experienced the sting of rejection or the frustration of plans falling apart. But God's “no” is never without purpose. It could be protection from unseen danger, preparation for a better opportunity, or a test of faith. Closed doors force us to lean on Him, to trust that He sees what we cannot. When one door shuts, another opens—on His terms, in His timing.Question of the Day: How has a closed door in your life led to something better?Let's Pray: Lord, help us trust You when doors close. Remind us that Your ways are higher, and Your plans are perfect. Give us faith to walk forward, knowing You are guiding our steps. In Jesus' name, Amen.Let's Get To Work!Support MyR2B Ministries: Your support helps us continue this mission. Consider subscribing to help sustain and expand our outreach. This is a public episode. Have you ever faced a situation where every door seemed to slam shut, or an unexpected opportunity appeared out of nowhere? These moments aren't random—they're part of God's divine plan. Our springboard for today's discussion is: Revelation 3:8—"I know your works. Behold, I have set before you an open door, which no one is able to shut."Jesus spoke these words to the church in Philadelphia, reminding them that His guidance is sovereign. He opens doors no one can close and closes doors no one can force open. Understanding this principle is key to walking in faith and confidence.God often closes doors to protect us from paths that aren't meant for us. It might be a job we didn't get, a relationship that ended, or an opportunity that fell through. In the moment, it may feel like rejection, but in reality, it's redirection. When a door shuts, it's not the end—it's an invitation to trust that God has something better ahead. At the same time, when God opens a door, it requires faith to step through. Many times, fear, doubt, or comfort zones keep us from embracing new opportunities. But if God has opened the door, He will provide everything needed to walk through it.Question of the Day: Is there a door in your life that God might be closing or opening? How will you respond?Let's Pray: Lord, help us trust You when doors close and have the courage to step forward when You open new ones. Give us wisdom and discernment to follow Your lead. In Jesus' name, Amen.Let's Get To Work!Support MyR2B Ministries: Your support helps sustain this work and expand our ministry outreach. This is a public episode. Welcome, Warriors, to The Power of God's Whisper Podcast. Have you ever prayed for something with all your heart, only to be met with silence—or worse, a firm "no" from God? It's a tough reality, but what if God's refusal is actually His mercy in disguise? Our springboard for today's discussion is: 2 Corinthians 12:9 – "But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.'"Paul, one of the greatest champions of faith, prayed earnestly for his "thorn" to be removed. But God's answer wasn't deliverance—it was grace. Sometimes, God's "no" is His way of shifting our focus from what we think we need to what He knows is best. When we face closed doors, we often assume God is withholding something good. But in reality, He is protecting, redirecting, and refining us. A denied request isn't a sign of His absence—it's proof of His deeper plan. Consider Joseph: betrayed by his brothers, falsely accused, and imprisoned. He could have thought God had abandoned him. But every setback was actually a setup for his destiny—to save a nation.Trusting God when He says "no" means believing His wisdom surpasses our own. When one door closes, another—better—one will open. Even if we don't understand in the moment, we can rest in the truth that His grace is always enough.Question of the Day: What is one closed door in your life that may actually be a blessing in disguise?Let's Pray: Lord, help us to trust You when the answer isn't what we hoped for. Teach us to rely on Your grace, knowing that Your plans are always for our good. Give us faith to embrace Your redirection and walk in peace, even in disappointment.
